She also gave me some scraps that I can incorporate into pillows to match.... That's the Easy part. Would like to hand-quilt this, but I won't have the TIME!! Isn't that always the way???
Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!Just Gab'n
Maggie, LaCloche Lake is about 250 miles north of me..goodness girl, does he get to use it much, it it a fishing/hunting camp?
Love the projects Susan, have you ever though if you are running out of time that you might want to tie your mom's quilt with embroidery thread? not as nice but it would get done..
Love the applique, which reminds me, must get that link for you re disolving thread..
Debbie, didn't know you were working so hard on getting pkgs. done to send off..big hugs for you for taking such a project on
Just spoke with Ann, they did give Mike a milder form of chemo yesterday, since the last one he's lost 15 lbs. She said when they got back from the city their basement had flooded so they are working on getting that mess cleaned up..poor soul..
Debbie- Eleven years old...that made me cry. Poor kid. Heartwarming to know that he has you. We're an Air Force family and we know that all too often some of our troops go without necessities and or the comforts of home. Can you post an address? And a list maybe? I would like to send a box.
What a wonderful idea, Betty - tie with embroidery thread........ !! I just happen to have skeins, and skeins of it, and some in the right colour!! hmmm if I tie it, it will be like oooooh shoot, can't think of the word....... Before you finish sewing something, you sorta "test sew" it..... What's That Word?!?!?
OK I am back too!!
LOL, well it's raining so I'm inside..laundry going, kitchen cleaned up, kids to school, now back to sewing.
Susan, love the applique!! LOL, thats what I've been working too.
Betty, whew, my fingers are permanent pin cushions!! lol...But woohoo, progress being made.I have 3 holly leaves left to sew, then my ??? what you call that in painting, the background...oh yeah, the base part is done...(lol see, i did learn something from your lessons!)
Anyway then out comes some embroidery thread and begin the next phase of bringing the piece to life!! You know I just love coloring with thread...but I am pouting, it's not centered!
Oh Debbie, wow looks like you might go to craft show after all, I hope it's workable for you, lol nice surprise (or not) DH going too!
Grr, never take my DH shopping 'cuz then i never get to buy the fun stuff!....What weekends?? Stay at home moms don't even have an evening...lol I am surprised we don't work in our sleep, hmm but then maybe we do!! Wake up working, go to bed working....sigh, but then i cry when they don't need me, wahhhhhh!
Linda Kay, your grandkids are just adorable. I sure know the feeling of not living close. Miss my nieces/nephews and grand-n/n very much! LOL, when we do see them, it's awesome that the older ones actually remember us!! So sweet. But I do keep up with the goings on, via phone or chatter box on 'puter.
Maggie, nice to see you! ROFLOL, thought that was pretty funny, sending DD who even has her own passport! Yep, Betty, would keep her in a heartbeat! Hey how is your newest lil girl?? Do your girls treat her like a live baby doll?
Oh Betty, by the by...my Workshop evnie went out yesterday! hope you get it in time, and yikes sure hope you get it!! was not in written form...I hope you like the card, and I hope it wasn't of the same sent in years past, lol.
Well better get to those leaves, I've learned they refuse to adhere by themselves, lol no matter how much I tell them how pretty they will be.
See you at a break.

Thank You EVERYONE!!!!!! Woo Hooooo Look at that CAKE!!!! Wonderfully done LK, you had to have stayed up all night on that one!
LOL Judy!!!!!
Betty I'm at work. We do get a birthday day that we can take whenever we want, and since my boss and programmer are at a conference in Vegas this week (Oh yea they got grief for that one!) I can't take the day off, that would leave no one here in my department and that can't happen... SSSOO since we get Thurs, Nov 11th off for Veterans day and have to work Friday the 12th, I'm taking Nov. 12th off and giving myself a 4 day weekend! Woo Hoo!!!
Well since I seem to be busy today I'm going to go for now! Trying to figure out what I want to buy myself for my birthday....hhmmmmmm
Well that sounds as though you are putting your birthday 'day' to good use, 4 days off, maybe you and Dave can do something special then!
One thing about purchasing your own 'birthday' gift is that you get what you want!!! guaranteed..
Debbie- the song "Letters from home" just came on the radio...how ironic. More tears.
Maggie, is it your husband who is in the service?
Thanks, Betty - will have to pay closer attention to it, but it sounds like a great way to "duplicate" applique pieces..... and I like the "dissolving thread"!!!
Yes, my husband is.
Maggie, that song reminds me of Justin also. I just love him to pieces. He calls me "Ma". Told him "Ma" is fine, because he has a Mom, and she is watching out for him from above. Called me from Germany on Mothers Day, talk about tears. And, when he was home in June, our house was his first stop.....even before his bio family. This kid is so wonderful...he has had such a hard hard life, and just can't get a break. The Military is the best thing for him...getting him away from what is at his "home". He knows he always has a place here.
I will gladly send you his address....will send in Dmail.
This is Justin.
Oh Debbie, he sure is a looker, how proud you must be..bring along the address so that I can ship something as well..I'm sure his mom couldn't have picked a better 'ma' for him, a stand-in for her..how touchings...
Maggie, where is your hubby stationed? My nephew Scott is on a secret mission and we cannot know his location...he was to have retired although he's in his early 40's, was training a group to go overseas and felt because they were all so young he just couldn't let them go on their own..
Prayers for all these men and their families..don't know how you get through the day without them!
Debbie - what a handsome group. You must be so proud of your son, and sometimes scared too, considering his profession.......
Betty - Thanks for reminding me about "quiltersTV". I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago, and think I could spend all day listening to their tips, and watching..... wouldn't get Anything else done!! They're good, and concise.... learn a lot with them.
I'm using my phone, so the picture is small. Is he Army? Is he on a 12 month tour? Sometimes they're 18 months. Waaaaay too long. Those long tours are notorious for breaking up families. Very sad.
My husband, thankfully, isn't deployed at the moment. We're stationed at Robins AFB, Georgia. We just moved here in June from Eielson AFB, Alaska.
Moved us over to here...
Maggie, brought your post over to the new thread..

Yes, he is Army....and went to Afghan. end of June. As of now, he is there a year....or long as needed he has said.
Alaska to Georgia? What a rude awakening!
betty started a new thread.....
Moved us over to hear...

Well, I'm home! I have been on the road since Septtember, starting with Jonathan's early birth, then a funeral in Lansing, then the trip to St. Louis to see my Dad, then back to Lansing to close up the house I can't sell, and then to St. Louis when Dad took a turn for the worse and for his death and funeral. Every time I was only home for a few days before I was gone again.
St. Louis had beautiful fall weather, temps in the 60-70's and sun all the time but I came home to temps in the 40's and frost on the lawn this morning. They are talking about flurries on Friday.
I will be glad to stay at home; just me and the dog. She has been on the road, too, staying in doggie day care while I did my traveling.
The viewing and Memorial Service for Dad were wonderful but tiring. So many people came to say good-bye. They talked about his smile and how he brought people together. He was head of the Resident Council three times, longer than anyone. He also helped to set the guidelines for the Resident Council at his retirement center which is used as a guide to centers all over the country.
While Dad liked the retirement center (lived there 30 yrs.) he did not like the health center part. He stayed there when he had to for physical therapy after various injuries, but the idea of being there permanently was an idea he fought. He decided to stay in assisted living in early Oct. and had the stroke just two weeks later which lead to his death. I think he wanted it that way!
During his Memorial Service I told the residents that I had heard Frank Sinatra singing "My Way" on their closed circuit TV. My Dad lived and died "his way"!
Good for your Dad - so happy you can see the happiness he had in the way he lived/died. It's important to remember the best of what he had to offer, and obviously he had a lot to offer as both you and Stacey remember him so fondly.
MOVED US OVER, won't you come join us...
