Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am trying to put the batting and backing on that king size quilt! I have it spread on my bed, and then pinning a bit at a time. My back does not like all the bending over! Hopefully it will be pinned by tonight, then I can start sewing it together!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I learned that my "Dark t-shirt transfer paper" is likely defective...
I bought some Avery paper and, as I've been able to use the light fabric transfers successfully, I supposed it would be the same, only for dark fabric.
Instructions said to put a tissue paper over the transfer between it and the iron, then otherwise it was the same. I waited for it to cool, then the backing paper came away, and the "plastic" paper stayed. I pulled/peeled/scraped with my fingers to get the plastic off, and the image came with it!! I tried it a few times, but nothing..........
When I called the company this morning, they determined it was likely a defective package and will send me a new package which I'll get in 7-10 business days.
I really need it earlier than that because it's for Memorial Sunday at church....... I guess I'll need to buy more, but I won't buy it at Wally World, cuz it may be old stock. I'll have to find somewhere else that sells it and pay more $$ I'm sure. 5 sheets costs $19!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

OH NO! That is a shame that is got messed up! I have never used it, so not for sure how it works!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Judy that looks really good!

Poo, no winnings.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I've never used anything like that either, I'm ascared LOL

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Great job Judy. I wish I could still do work like that. I really do miss it. Your yard is really going to look terrific next summer when all these changes are showing along with your plants blooming!!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

.Bev...hugs and prayers...keep us informed...

Hard to keep up with you gals....wow....

Been out admiring my brugmansias....just hope they open a bit more before frost takes them away. I have a couple "Serendipity" blooming (pink single) and tons of buds on the "New Orleans Lady" (double peach/orange??) and some buds on the "Adeline" (double pink)...one is turning pink now, but not really open and not a double...so maybe that comes when it's open...haven't had doubles before so not sure...

I spent the morning cutting down butterfly bushes..one is going to have to move from the bed with the Japanese maple in it, cause it's crowding the tree badly....so now just have to decide where it can go, cause it's a monster! Also started digging up the pots with the plumeria in them...another reason to trim BF bushes cause they were in the way....after I spray the plumeria for bugs a couple times I will take them to their winter home in the basement. They did so well this year. I think it was because I sunk the pots and they didn't keep falling over...Next year, I will do a better job of fertilizing them, cause they're heavy feeders and maybe I can have some really good blooms. I will probably have to move them up to bigger pots next year, and boy am I dreading that!

The kids from Florida are here for the week...did I tell you all that? Anyway, they're having a good time seeing old friends and eating foods that they've missed. They boys have grown so much and they brought their little 4 month old apple faced chi with them...so cute. We babysat the pup last night...the other grandma had the boys.

Still wishing for rain here...we had about 1/8 inch the other night....couldn't even tell the next morning....I just planted a couple pansy plants and while digging the holes found soil that looked like dried cement....sigh....well.....most things made it through the drought of summer so hopefully the winter will give us some moisture and spring will pop.

Grandkids had Homecoming festivities the other night. Jordyn had a low sugar episode, but after getting that under control and redoing her makeup they were able to go to the dance.

Here is Jordyn (17) and Luke (15). I'm not proud or anything..... ^_^

Gorgeous photo. Looks like they are fun to be with!!!!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I have dinner for breakfast, almost every day....I usually don't eat until my first break at work, and I eat leftovers of whatever the family had for supper the night before...

I usually get up around 12 noon ET, and have a cup of coffee...go to work for 2, eat around 4 pm...last nights dinner. get another break about three hours later, have a snack..then eat again around 1.am after being home fromwork for a little bit..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Going to do a cath next Wed morning and then will know if I have to have the surgery to unblock or a stint. I will vote for the surgery anytime. Cross our fingers thanks. BEV

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Fingers, and everything else that's cross-able, crossed!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks dear.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Everything here crossed too! And a few prayers never hurt either!

Lyndonville, NY

Me too Bev! Crossing my arms around your back...for a big hug.

Feel better, and no worrying...our prayers will take care of you!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Everything's crossed here too Bev!

Ok I went to the amish market to buy vegetables and fruit. Here they set-up stands usually in front of there homes. Or in groups at a flea market up the road. So I got all my stuff and coming home I see another sign for vegs and fruit and I pull in well.........No-one around(pouring down rain again)I am walking around and see no-one.There is a sign that says put money in the bucket . Well I go around looking for squash and WHAT DO I SEE......A treadle table. Not sure if sewing machine is inside but It is there desk outside in the elements...So I am calling for anyone to come no one comes . I leave and I am so upset that sewing table is just there..... outside. How could they do that? It looked in really good shape except top warping. May go back tomorrow........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello there, was helping everyone this morning and glad of it, another couple of hours and I'm homeward bound.

Judy, no didn't bring my costumes to work and I keep thinking had I been able to I'd be done by now..lol..am thinking though this weekend to get 2 or 3 of the cookbook wood sets basecoating and prepped so I can paint here with genesis, might get ahead of the game that way.

Joyce, those are 2 great looking kids, best you print and frame that photo..I've butterfly bushes to move as well, one in the front yard has to be about 10 to 12' high, the others near the deck don't have same branch strength and are quite dangly so I'll find the a new home..should do it now I guess! Any photo's of the chi..come on grandma, need photo's..as for rain, they've called for heavy rains all day for past 2 days, no go, had some last night but didn't amount to much..do you take your pump out of the pond for fall/winter..must remember to do that, far too expensive to replace if I don't..what strength is yours?

Bev, isn't surgery more intrusive? why would you pick it over the cath??? amazing what doctors can do now days, they'll get you fixed up and you'll be running around that garden like crazy come spring...hugs for Scotty. prayers and hugs coming your way.

Thunder you sound much like me, whatever is in the refrigerator that's easy to grab is what I eat...wow, your schedule sure is broken up..how's hubby and family doing?

Debbie, mom called me awhile ago, asked if I'd be going to CrackerBarrel in 2 weeks, said most likely so she's given me a list of 'wants' .... don't tell her, it's easier for me to shop for her than take her right? how are things going for you, did Paul's company make any kind of announcement yet? and the vehicle, how is it working now that it's been repaired?

Susan, not quite sure of the process either...I've often photo-copied something then ironed it on that way I haven't had to use transfer paper and it's worked out fine..could be bad pkg. yikes that's expensive isn't it, $19.00 a pkg?

Crissy, how's work going, what did DH say about the cost of repair to the vehicle? How's your mom doing?

LindaKay, you'll be suffering tonight, you need it completely finished for the weekend don't you..could you not send a photo and say it's on it's way?

Barb, I'm with you, found this year a little harder to do the heavy work outside, best you and I stay painting and sewing.

Judy you sure are ahead of the game this year, come spring you'll have little to do..you have a lovely house, as big as those in the back only it's all on one level and the bonus is you have a general living in the front of you to keep an eye on things..lol...how's our Liz doing, sure do miss her!!!

Judy, bored yesterday, too much time on my hands so I was looking at the map, can you tell me where your cottage is???

Susan was listening to the news this morning, omg finding that poor baby in a garbage bag in dumpster, how could the mother do it...have they said anything about finding her yet..you'd think that would be fairly easy as most knowing what is happened might search their memory for someone in their neighborhood who might have been pregnant but now not? Hope baby is improving...as for the fabric shop, it is no longer, now a real estate office..boo hoo, no more Fabricland or T&G Fabrics, either we shop in Barrie or Orillia..not good!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh geeze - that brings back memories. In the 60's my gma broke her hip, and she used the old treadle sewing machine she had, for therapy. Worked really well, actually.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

WOW, you just never know! Several weeks ago one of the men that I worked with in Lansing died suddenly. He was 9 months older than I am.

Last night my daughter called and told me that my brother in law died suddenly yesterday. He is just 2 years older than I am. He got a cold and it went into pneumonia; like most men he didn't go to the hospital until too late. Of course, my sister in law died a earlier in the year and he was just lost without her. I think that had something to do with it.

Still, it really gives me pause...I'm going to 1. get a doctor here 2. get a flu shot
3. take good care of myself.

Well, the house is closed up and winterized, the gas and electric have been turned off, I got out the stained glass from the kitchen cabinets and the front window and now the bank can have it back. It is still on the market and I could get a short sale offer but doubt it. The price is down to $35,00 and could go as low as $24,000. I paid $40,000 when I bought it 14 years ago so you see how bad things are in Michigan. I am still trying to work to get the bank to take it back but they are S..O..S..L..O..W that it could be next year before they make any decisions. One way or the other I am done with it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy, you'd best go rescue that treddle machine unit..so much you can do even if machine is no longer inside..ask Judy for a photo of hers.lovely!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

My condolences Janice..and yes, we're at the age group (me not all of you..lol) that we need to take special care of our health AND live every day as though it is our last! Guess that means we can rush out and buy something special...do you know a young couple who might not have downpayment but could make the monthly payments easily who might want to get into it and take it over in their name?

Laura, did you find your sewing machine?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

o my... Betty - I hadn't opened my emailed copy of the newspaper (we don't get the paper copy anymore), so didn't realize about the newborn in the trash bin!! Here's what the paper said:

CALGARY — The woman accused of abandoning her newborn boy in a northwest Calgary trash bin Tuesday told investigators she didn’t realize she was pregnant, police revealed today.
The 29-year-old woman is scheduled to undergo a psychiatric assessment today and is facing charges of attempted murder, failing to provide the necessities of life and child abandonment.
The baby was initially hypothermic and in life-threatening condition, but he’s now in stable condition.
“It was incredibly lucky the passersby responded to the cries of the baby,” said Staff Sgt. Leah Barber of the child abuse unit.
“I truly believe they saved his life.”
Authorities estimated the boy was born between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. — approximately two hours before the rescuers found him.
Police confirmed today the boy’s mother lives in Queen’s Park Village, the same townhouse complex where passersby found the infant inside a bag thrown into a metal trash bin.
An ambulance took the woman to hospital an hour after the baby was found in the bin, and she remains there today.
“Information suggests the woman was not aware of the pregnancy prior to the birth,” Barber said.
The boy’s father, likewise, didn’t know the woman was pregnant until authorities told him. He was not present during the birth.
Barber described the man’s reaction as “shock, I think.”
The woman hasn’t been charged, and authorities will likely withhold her name to protect the baby’s identity.
James Patton was walking his dog through the townhouse complex at 501 40th Ave. N.W. when a man and woman told him they heard a baby’s cries coming from inside the bin.
“A girl said she heard something, he tore open a garbage bag,” Patton said.
They found a naked baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached.
“I ripped off my shirt,” said Patton. “I kept the baby warm.”
The group called 911 and a police cruiser patrolling nearby arrived within two or three minutes.
The resident who lives closest to the bin said she didn’t hear anything unusual when she was outside an hour before others found the baby.
“I just thank God for the girl that can hear better than me,” Sheila Pierzchala said.
Pierzchala lives close enough to the bin that she said she often tosses her trash into it from her front steps.
“I’m just thankful I didn’t throw my garbage on top of a baby who was right below,” Pierzchala said, adding she was just happy the baby was still alive.
She had not noticed any pregnant women living nearby.
“I think it’s so sad. It’s so sad for whoever had to do this, that they were in a situation that they felt they had to do it.”

Wow - I feel so glad that the baby is now alright, and that the woman is in the hospital.... she needs HELP!! Imagine, doing this to a poor helpless newborn! At least "in the old days", people would put a baby they didn't want in a basket and leave it on someone's doorstep. That was at least more humane!!!!!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - you mean "rent to own" for Janice's house?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that us such a sad story!
betty, I did send her a picture, told her the real thing would be hand delivered in two weeks... But I still need to get it finished and out of the way, as I need to take all the sewing stuff out of the extra bedroom, and get it ready for Dads return in 2 weeks!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Janice, so sorry to hear of your BIL passing away! Sending prayers for the family!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Gosh....so sad about the little guy...hope he finds a really good home.

Janice...so sorry about your BIL....you remember Ric and Robyn...well, Monday Robyn's sister had an asthma attack and it went into cardiac arrest. She passed about 1:45 am. She was 59. Gosh....so young.

Betty, here is T-Bone...he's 4 months old....he's whining right now cause his Mom and Dad just left to take the little ones to the pumpkin patch. He is so cute....
This will be the second winter for the pump....last year we didn't take it in. It's an external one and from what Bill tells me will be a pain to take in since it's all hooked up to the lines permanently. So I think we'll try to insulate it somehow. It's a pretty big one....think it was something like 12,000 gph.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oops...forgot T-Bone.

No Crissy, thinks Janice wants to end her ownership and I thought what a great way to transfer mtg. into a young couple's name at the lowest price she can sell it...

OMG Joyce, just too adorable..t-bone, lol

Joyce that is young, especially when I'm older than 59..gives you food for thought doesn't it..

Guess I have to take it in because of the freezing and ice layer on the pond..just means I have to get into a freezing body of water for 5 minutes...slate that for Saturday..lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Janice - sorry to hear about your BIL's passing.....

yes, 59 IS young...... I'm only 3 years from that myself...... gotta tell ya a "funny" though.... As I worked in the administrative office of a lab, we often got our medical info update requests. Well, Someone didn't tell the OHW office that I was no longer working there, so they sent out a letter, and then it was forwarded to me at home. My actual birthdate is March 11, 1954, but they have it in the system as July 31, 1969 - cut more than 15 years off me!!! WOW, would that I could do it that simply!!!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, it is still hitting the fan. Got DH's car "moving", but still some "engine lights" coming on.

Then, I had to go meet DH yesterday at work. My car battery died in the parking lot. I have a new battery.

As I type this....DH is on the way to the ER with my DS. He needed to go this morning but said "Im fine" ...didn't want Mom with him. Its a "male issue". We need prayers and answers.

AND...of all things, my little Brittany is in LABOR. Which means little Kylie will be here soon. She is still home....dialted 4 cm..80% thinned. Contractions 15 minutes apart. Something tells me this is going to be a big baby....but we will see! Her sonogram a month ago said she was already 6 lbs.!

This is going to be a LONG night!

Mary, I need some music

Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - soon-to-be-grandma!! woooo hoooo!! ♫♪c'mon Kylie♪♫ - don't make the family wait!!♫♪ ♫Hush little baby♪don't say a word♪♫Momma's gonna buy you a Mockingbird♪♫........
Prayers being said for your DS - praying for answers.....

I am not technically Grandma....she is one of my "kids" that grew up in the neighborhood, lived here for awhile when having family issues.

Do you remember that story "Is your Mama a Llama"? Well, I was known for reading and quoting that book. SO, I am known in the house by many kids as "MamaLlama" SO....I am going to be her GrandLlama according to Brittany.

Yes, nothing is ever simple in this house. lol

Lexington Park, MD

Janice are those numbers right?????Here that price has not been seen for many many years. So sorry about your BIL.
Betty still working on getting a sewing machine. I want to be able to quilt on it and not spend thousands of dollars. So I will keep looking. Still raining here again. Would like to see a picture of books you are working on if possible. Sounds like maybe something my kids could work on as gifts with my help....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening,

Thanks Susan for the update on the baby, how could you NOT know you are pregnant when you have it, wrap it in a paper bag and walk to the dump to discard it..give me a break..must be mentally challenged and needs to checked out..poor child, glad they don't publicize the name otherwise he might be labeled for the rest as his life as a 'throw away baby'..shaking my head here..is it far from where you are Susan?

OMG, my kids were born in 1969..only thing with knocking off 15 years Susan is you have to wait that much longer for retirement,lol..

Laura, you are doing it the right way, not rushing into purchasing a machine until you find just the right one; which had tempted you so far?

Just got home and called Ann to see how she made out at the eye specialist..detached retna, had to go back then she tells me while she and Mike were at the Doctor's someone broke into their home, took laptop, $$$ and not sure if she mentioned the flatscreen t.v.

Ann said when she opened the door there was a bottle of wine on the counter so she asked Mike how come he took out a bottle of wine, he said he didn't so she assumed maybe in cleaning the counter and dusting she might have taken it out of the wine unit..went into the bedroom and the

got to finish story after, someone's at my door..

Hugs Debbie, Lordy, never saw a lady go through one stressful event, right into another non-stop..hope your son is ok, and girl, you will be that baby's grandma, her real grandparents haven't helped her out much, it's been you who had held her up emotionally these past months.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yes, Betty, it's fairly far from where I live. When we were looking at houses, I wasn't impressed with the area (cookie-cutter townhouses) and said to my DH that this is one area I would not buy a house in......
I live 9 blocks to the east of Center St, and this is 4 blocks to the west of Center St. I live on 16 Ave, and this is 40th Ave, so that gives you an idea of how far away it is....

Poor baby, eh?!?! I'm just really glad they found it so quickly, now it has a chance for good health.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

No, I want them to do a surgery not a stint after the cath. No more hugs for Scotty. He is the blame for all the stress and the heart attack. He is on me all day everyday so I might have another one. He is a devil and has been for 31 yrs. I moved my organ and albums into the dining room and he don't want them in here and is threatening to destroy them while I am gone. He would never let me change furniture. He belongs in the nursing home because he is driving me bonkers and doesn't care. The preacher and his wife were here one day and he said if he has to go back to the NH he will blow his head off after he does mine. I am totally anxious all the time. Lord help me. I am sorry for unloading but am so scared if I don't come home he will put my Rick out. When ever he gets mad he runs my boys down.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh Bev....... ((((((((hugs to you, lady)))))))) unload anytime you want to, and obviously you need to more than you have been....
What are you doing to lessen stress? I feel for you, in your pain and anxiety.....
I wish we lived closer - I don't know what I'd do to help, but I'd do Something, if only to be with you and give you hugs......

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Janice I'm so sorry to hear about your BIL. And the house! That's horrible that no one will buy it but the market is moving sooooo sloooowwww right now it's unreal.

Bev big gentle hugs to you, and lots and lots of prayers. I wish I could do something too, I think we all do.

Bev and Barb, I was just doing some more on the horoscopes and I have a feeling that you two are a lot alike. You should chat about it and get some laughs going on.

I have a bug in here, it's buzzing on the window and I can't see what it is...

Baton Rouge, LA

Bev - That sounds like a serious serious situation... He belongs in a nursing home... surely there is a way to get him in one? You certainly don't need the stress especially at this time....

Wow - So many posts to respond to ! Surely I'll forget one...

Laura - Geez I sure hope everything gets fixed real soon... I can't believe you're still waiting ! Even after Katrina... It doesn't seem we waited that long for an insurance quote... perhaps time to change companies AFTER you get this settled !

Sending soft melodies your way Debbie ♪♫♪♫ Lordy woman you are very STRONG for the Lord to keep sending these issues your way...certainly He knows you are capable of dealing with them.....

My Dear Sis sent DS "IS your mama a llama" when he was little.. we Definitely loved and remember that book ...

Joyce - Tbone is cute! and OMG those grandkids are beautiful ! What a Great Pic ! Our Homecoming game is tomorrow night and the Dance is Friday night.....

Susan - so funny you mention the transfer paper.... DH & I are going to a Halloween Ball Saturday night... in costume... our TV station is one of the sponsors and has a table...so we're all 10 going dressed in "Hawaii Five-O" theme....The gal organizing it is ironing the Hawaii FIveO logo on white t shirts for us....and last night only ONE got messed up... you know why ? It was the dark shirt paper.... and of course that was MY Shirt... so need to go find another Plain White T tomorrow.... Must be some probs with that paper for us both to have the issue...she said the paper was stuck to the shirt...

Janice - so sorry for your loss.....

I'll check back in a bit.... DH just walked in....

I need to tell him to get cleaned up and ready for Betty to come pick him up... LOL

Hugs,
Mary

PS: Betty - hope it's NOT a deal breaker... but you need to take the girls TOO.... LOL

Lyndonville, NY

Mary.... God doesn't send me those issues, that would make him a bully. I just refuse to believe he gives His children illnesss and all this, it is just life happening...some of which this human race has caused.... BUT he gives me the strength and the people in my life to deal with them and get through them.

I love the Footprints in the Sand....when there is only one track of prints, "For it is then that I carried you". I hope I am not responsible for God throwing his back out....he has carried me so much!
