Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!

Quote from Bettypauze :
Actually, when I first found myself alone and needing a lot done to the run down house I purchased, all my friends hubbies came to help, didn't need one of my own, soooo perhaps I should just borrow yours, I'll start with Laura's seeing he's in a buying mood..lol

Not a bad idea, Betty!

Lexington Park, MD

Painting oh I love to paint makes everthing clean and fresh.
Betty it has taken me a very long time to find this DH and he is all mine. And I have a limit as to what I can spend so for now just keeping my eyes open. . Never thought to use blackboard paint on inside of cupboards. good idea. I have been told they make magnetic paint also.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Black, lime green, pink, purple, sky blue, bright yellow and chalk paint are for my kiddos. They got to pick their colors themselves. I got "cool mom points" for that! The rest......I have no idea where I'll put what, but I'll figure something out after a few glasses of wine. :) Super cool idea with the paint on the cupboard doors!!! I might try that!

woo hoo!! We had our civic election yesterday, and the Mayor we wanted got in!! By a landslide!!

@Betty, yes you did thank me for the fabric, and I'm pleased you like it
@Maggie - I'm with U..... I love to paint. Freshens the place up so much ^_^ In fact, I'm thinking of re-painting our bedroom, because it's a colour I love, but it may not be a colour any buyers would love. It's a rich green/teal, and I've been told it's "interesting" ^_^ It works well with the Oak window trim, and the maple hardwood floor.

@Betty - you asked what I'm sewing.... well, I have another binder cover to make, then I need to iron-transfer patterns on them (2), then more banners.....
Then an applique quilt block for the Crafty Christmas, then, then, then......... more, more, more.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

you certainly do have a lot of sewing on your plate Susan, ought to fill your day..glad your candidate got in..our elections will be a week Monday

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

hmmmmm title of this is What Did I Learn, etc.
what I learned is that even though we got a majority vote for our new Mayor, there are still people who are prejudiced (he's East Indian, but has lived in Calgary longer than any of the other candidates......it's his home!), and small minded. A young mayor (38 yo), who has been a professor at the Mount Royal University, and a civic leader, should be given a chance. The last mayor was jaded (3 terms = 9 years), and so was our last alderman (5 terms = 15 years), and the mayor turned out to be crooked in financial dealings.
So, Calgary will be less conservative...... it's one of the reasons I moved here, even though I'm a very conservative person, I know change can be good.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I did hear that on the news this morning coming to work, meant to mention it to you..did they say it's the first time an East Indian has become Mayor..he sounds as though he has your vote..conservative or not!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Yes, he has our vote! It's mostly because he came out to our Park and spoke to the co-op board, and wants to keep us here, not moving us across the city. He's interested in keeping communities together. He also said it is very costly to the city to set up a new community with water/sewer, electrical, etc. There are 180+ homes in this community of 500+ people.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

that certainly would be a reason to vote for him, let's hope he can achieve keeping you together. I said that I would not vote for anyone who uses automatic dial to call me, surely in a small community they could drop by to introduce themselves??? Mayor is in, no one ran against him, councillors ??? don't know..

Find so many aren't even going to vote..we should be like LasVegas, it's mandatory to vote!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

funny you should mention the "auto dial" Betty, because that's exactly what our new Alderman did....... I didn't like him when he came by because he "slammed" the fellow I had the sign up for, and then I got an "auto dial" from him the next evening..... Now he's IN, and I'm not sure I like the man. He gave us a letter, in the Park, that said we should get "equal or better" than what we have in the Park, and I told him "We don't want to move!!" but it looks like he's going to move us, if he has his way.

Guess what I got in the mail? An ad for snow clearing removal LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes, snow removal, would imagine my guy will be around shortly to confirm my wanting to use his services which I do..haven't heard of him since last winter, he's been dealing with cancer so hoping he's ok..

Guess Susan it's the way of the times..we're old fashion, nothing like shaking hands .

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

and kissing babies......... don't forget the kissing of babies!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy, do any of them do the 'baby kissing' anymore?? how about old ladies???

Temperature is dropping, can feel how cold it's getting so just put on the fireplace, tubs waiting for me, Ann won't arrive until 7:30 so might get in an hour laying on the couch..

Brrr winters coming!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Got my 2nd wind, Missy decided she likes the softness of the pile of material I have for all the costumes..maybe it's Michael Jackson's bright red that's attracking her..lol

Back to the sewing room..don't want to stop now as I'm falling asleep, wouldn't look good having Ann drop in to play t.v. bingo and me snoring (mom says I do-very loudly) lol

Lexington Park, MD

Bev prayers and hugs to you.
Coffee is on. It is raining again here and afraid basement will take in more water so I am on sump pump duty. It is working but the thought of having to go through all that mess again......could not sleep when I heard the rain coming down.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I can see by your early post that you are up and at it, awful feeling for sure worrying about more flood damage..is your house built in a low laying area or is it drainage problems around the house that's causing you so much problem..the flooding I had was when the torrential rains came for about 3 days and the ditching system infront had been plugged by neighbors changing pattern of water flow, thank goodness I've done the painting of rocks on basement floors so no damage to it and was at the time doing the drywall so we changed some of the insulation and all was ok..just can phanthom why you've not heard from the insurance company yet??? hope they are not short of $$$...

It's rained here all night, calling for more today and tomorrow, watch if it's not sunshine on the weekend and I have to make costumes which will likely take me all weekend if not more.

Enjoyed your coffee, not much in the house in way of sweets, should have baked you some right? maybe tomorrow morning!
Bev, know both you and Scotty are in my prayers this morning; please drop in with an update or even a 'hi' so we know you are ok..

Sure wish there was a way of knowing how Tubby and Shirley are doing, as well, our Australian Laura...

Mary, no need, if you are willing to give him up I'll travel down and pick him up, I've got wheels and accommodations now so won't be a problem, besides I'll be able to see you wave goodbye.

Mary, got to tell you a story which you've just reminded me of..in all the years of sewing I'd purchase my material and my sewing machines at T & G remnants, Ted was the owner..I imagine he was maybe a few years older than I, divorced I think, but I'd walk in front of the store window to see if other buyers were in the store or someone else at the cutting table, Ted would always compliment me on something or other, when I'd be looking at material he'd come next to me to see what purchase I wanted, he'd lean over and take a deep breathe and tell me how lovely I smelt etc.etc. made me kind of nervous..always tried to bring someone with me when shopping..then Roger died, it was about 1 year later asked me out for the evening, oh my god, I panicked, said no, I wasn't up to it, he got offended and said 'I didn't ask to marry you I just wanted to take you out to a show and for something to eat' yikes, that about did me in for shopping at his store..about 6 months later I went out with someone, guess Ted had been asking different people about me and they said they'd seen that I had gone out a few times, well, next time I was in his shop he made it clear how disappointed he was...about a year later he married a lady who was marrying and divorcing all the merchants on the main drag..lol..she was in the store one day when I was there telling me of all the newest machine/serger and sewing play things she had, I smilled...so see, could have had me one of them AND I blew it...as it happens, he died, she got the store, sold it, moved on to another merchant.. there you go.

Must go put away my sewing gear as the painting girls will be here today..Ann brought her project last night when she was over for Bingo, lordy, the cookbook covers will be stunning, she'd 3/4 done her 1st. We're to get together to paint them but finding time is almost impossible..after the weekend we'll see if perhaps one or two nights a week we can paint for a few hours.

Dianne my girlfriend called me at work yesterday to remind me we haven't painted, sewn, got out for lunch in 3 months and wanted to get together..now comes the hard part, finding time for friends..

Should have an afternoon gathering one Sunday and call them all up, might be the only way until after Christmas.

Lexington Park, MD

Betty the house is 2 years old and I think it is a drainage problem but trying to get the county to say yes is another thing because then it is the builders problem . Insurance came out they had to send a sample of the carpet out to see what grade so they know how much to pay out. Just really frustrating.....and then when it does rain it is always in the back of your mind.I just want my sewing room back...........what a mess.......................

Victoria Harbour, ON

I bet you do, nothing like having your own space!

Knowing you may have this problem again will you replace with carpet?

Glenview, IL

Good morning!!

Well i will be back at the yard again today! It's beautiful, perfect for sifting and moving rock.
Her's what it looked like yesterday at this time!

I even managed to get 2 Hosta in the ground!!
My goal for today is to get at least sifted to the compost pile, working on the left side back.

Wow, look at all the hard work your doing! Looking really good!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Laura - what a mess you have! Is it just your sewing area that's affected by the flooding? That's a lot of expensive stuff, along with the rug......... a real mess!! IS it a builder's problem? Maybe the weeping tiles.........??

Betty - now you Know you wouldn't marry a man just for the sewing machines, right? LOL Seriously, I'd feel "creeped out" too!!
Too bad she sold the store, now you don't have it..... or did the new owners keep it open? I ask, because sometimes they change it into another type of store.....

Betty & Laura - I know what you mean about not sleeping when it's raining hard. We're in a mobile, and we've HAD leaking probs (now we don't, thankfully, because DH was able to fix the roof), but when a heavy rain/wind hits, we can hear it on the metal roof and it's almost like we'll blow away!! I can picture cows flying past us LOL

It's been a long time since we've heard from Shirley & Tubby...... I wonder if they're ok...... I worry about them.
Laura from Australia - where are you, girl?!?!?!?! I fell like I was Just getting to know you, and now you're possibly lurking? If you're here, please just say "HI" so we know you're ok.......

Either Maggie or Laura asked if those giant beauties are my house...NO, my house is a simple Ranch. We've been "fixing up" for the past 11 years now...In the last 4 years, properties have sold and people are replacing the Ranch for "Castles".
We never thought we would be here for a long period of time, however that thought has been changed yet a gain...You see, Our kids want to remain here, they love the area and love our house..So, now We have decided to continue maintaining and making it solid...
DH, thinking to expand upward, but that won't happen for a long time, lolol adding the project to his list!

As far as painting, LOL...It was needing to be done, usually DH takes on those kind of projects, ROFLOL, his idea of "Color" is eggshell white! Took me a few times before he "liked" the Yellow in the kitchen...And now, he is bugging me to finish, Well Ha, i will be finished when it's all finished, got to look for a job, got run the kids, keep the house, and Work the gardens before it snows, LOL adding it to my list! But really, I just needed a change. The boring eggshell wasn't so bad when i was working and didn't look at it for too long...And then, i got in hohum drum routine, so created this huge project amongst all the others! ROFLOL, Nothing like a thousand things going on at one time, can't stand one thing at a time...

OK well i hope you all Enjoy the day...Betty, you working on costumes at work?
Finished my dinner for breakfast so going out to sift now, see you later.

Glenview, IL

Thank you Linda Kay...It's been a long over due dream, put on hold and Revived once again!!

What you doing today? Last night, I got as far as looking at my pattern and Dreaming of how I want to go about it!
LOL...Sigh.
