South Hamilton, MA

I adore 'Do Tell'. It is really spectacular.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Have been eyeing 'Do Tell' myself. Those are all very pretty.

South Hamilton, MA

Glad that you ordered 3, Bill as their peonies are small. Certainly will not bloom the first yr.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx all

lucy they only sell in 3 of each so it is a total of 9. have no idea where they will go except for the winter which will be in container buried in the ground.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Can't wait to see pictures this spring Bill. Your place will be even more spectacular. Did you get your bulbs from the co-op yet?

Thomaston, CT

I loved all the peonies, especially Do Tell...they can always go to the left of the driveway as you're driving in.....make a very pretty entrance!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

polly i did not get them - fedx must be walking them here - i just tracked them and they are at my post office to be delivered tomorrow - never knew fedx used the postal service?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, they do quite often now. Just Fed Ex as far as I know, not UPS.

I was absolutely pleased with mine.

I just got my blueberries from Garden Crossing. Great. Much larger than I expected.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - FedEx has used the PO for years now. UPS does now also.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

UPS does not here. We just asked them. We had three carriers here today, like Grand Central.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My all-time record was four carriers in one day - when DHL was still doing domestic. It was Christmas time. Two were here at the same time and three within minutes! Pretty funny. My neighbors must have thought I was nuts.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you think:)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

all my neighbors think I am nuts... they say I keep ups in business

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i am sure my neighbors are the same - one told me that "people" can go to extremes with landscaping - ??? - told him i could never imagine that (with a staight face)

this is the same guy i USED to complain about with the cat that used my garden beds instead of kitty litter - he came out of the woods last weekend - seems a fisher got a chicken (we have a rooster waking us up now) and his cat - he was looking for it and asked if he could cut through my backyard - never said one word about the landscaping

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I would ask him if he knew how much your landscaping has raised the value of the homes in the neighborhood? You have definitely not gone too far. It's gorgeous landscaping.

Me too, Allison, LOL. I plan on doing all of my Christmas shopping on line this year. The older I get, the less I like the crowds. In fact, I just received my first Christmas buy today, a set of Le Crueset french onion soup bowls for my daughter.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

way ahead of you Polly... I started in September... LOL

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Figures. I don't have many to buy though. Now the kids tell me exactly what they want. My husband doesn't want anything and neither do I, but we will get each other something. Then just my daughter and her husband, and she told me the other day she made French Onion soup, and wished she had some of those bowls like we used to have at home.

So, I think I can wrap this up by Christmas.

South Hamilton, MA

Because of buying books for many family members I shop all year around. Start mailing around thanksgiving as people insist on living in the west.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

books are a wonderful present! You can never have too many books.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Have done ALL my Christmas shopping online since '95. Before that - on the phone.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

When I worked for JCP all my Christmas shopping was done by this coming weekend. Now I try to avoid the stores.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm considering getting more hellebores now, as opposed to in the spring. For that same large semi-shade bed.

South Hamilton, MA

Are they best planted in the fall? I forget which ones 'look up'. Ladies?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Everything is better when planted in fall. Two growing seasons before the stress of summer.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice selection of peonies Bill and what a great price!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx celeste - you still have time:)..............

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Heck No! It's too darn cold lately for me to buy anything else to plant!! LOL Call me a whimp but this weight loss has done nothing for my internal furnace!!!
I finally finished planting all my tulips, daffs, lilies and hyacinths on Wed., still have weed mat and mulch to put down around the12 new blueberry bushes. Not today...it's raining:(

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

What kind of blueberries did you get Pix? The ones I got from Garden Crossings were really nice and really good size plants. I guess I already said I'm a blueberry addict. I have 10 bushes plus the 4 I just got, and I'm thinking of more next year.

The new ones I got are Arlen, Berkley, Duke and Legacy. Do you have any of those?

Thomaston, CT

Gee, Iris, I'm not sure which hellebores face up...neither of mine do.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, Lucy, the Lady series is the more upfacing one. Still not that upfacing, though, not as much as the Christmas or Lenten ones.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Polly, Duke and Legacy sound familar.....not positive if those are some older ones we own. New ones this year are:
Chippewa
Chandler
Bluejay
Blue Crop
Elliot

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did order more. Pink Frost is outward facing. Not many are. The Sunshine series is not.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I do have Bluejay, Blue Crop and Elliot, Pixie. All are great berries. And I can tell the difference in them all. Love blueberries, did I say that already, LOL.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But so do lots of animals and birds! Great fall color to boot.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I've found with blueberries, more so than other fruit, if you get to them just as they ripen the birds don't get so much. I don't think the blue attracts the birds as much as the red berries on other plants. my biggest problem with blueberries is the wild turkeys eating the ones they can reach from the ground.

I do put netting on some times, but I hate to see a bird caught in netting.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Be thankful you don't have a dog that loves them! LOL

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I think I would enjoy watching the dog more than eating the blueberries. Along that note, though, I do have a granddaughter who loves all berries.

Do you grow raspberries too Pixie?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, and blackberries too. ^_^
