Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!
I'm first!!!!
I've never been first lol
Betty - should an open burn be kept moist, or let to air-dry?
Susan Put Neosporin or something of the sort on it and put a band-aid on it.
k
If you keep the Neosporin on it and keep it covered it won't hurt as bad, plus it will heal faster. The Neosporin is for 2 reasons, 1. it helps heal wounds, 2. it keeps the bandaid from sticking to the wound.
yes, I figured that about the sticking to the wound.
And I put a healing gel on, then a "burn bandage" from Elastoplast. It feels a lot better.
It had almost looked like the burn spread........
Susan, I have been told to keep it medicated during the day, but at night let it air out. Hope it helas quickly for you.
Stacey's due date was 28 Oct, 10 days after her Birthday. Now it looks like she will deliver him on Synda's Birthday tomorrow?
Fot the leaf mold, pile up a big pile of sand under the leaf, to mimick the shape of the leaf. Turn the leaf upside down on the sand, and pat it down to fill the sand pile. Then carefully start putting the concrete m ixture on top of the upside down leaf, till it is a few inches thick. Once you have it like you like it, cover it with a plastic bag for about a week, and keep it moist. You don't want it to dry to quickly, and crack. Once it has cured, carefully turn it over, and scrub out the leaf, and you will have your leaf birdbath! This is one Phylllis made me a few years ago. She lives in Tyler, Texas. This was made from a giant elephant ear leaf.
Beautiful, and yes any type of large leaf..putting the leaf with veins facing up will ensure the beautiful markings in the leaf..
That's a lot early isn't it..yikes, don't remember if Stacey's doctor told her on her last check-up that the dates might have been incorrect??? we're all sitting and waiting on pins and needles..
Drats it's boring here...Paul is almost ready to open the next 2 offices, Hamilton on the 14th and shortly thereafter Peterborough so here we are with no adv. being done because we need the new telephone system AND we're waiting on the phone company as they say it's a 4 to 6 week wait for equpment. In the meantime I get to gab with you all, crochet and play solitaire, hard life..almost hated to take my paycheck today! lol well not quite

This will give you a general idea, everyone has a differernt recipe.
Thanks LindaKay, now you are the one with the hottest temps..what is your weather like?
LindaKay know you want to work on your quilt with sunflower squares, I'm mailing all my packages from Buffalo (if plan stays as is) I'll mail your dad's birdbook from there but I could post your material in the morning so you get it by next week..want me to?
No, all together is fine, I have till the end of October to get it finished.
It is still hot here. 98 yesterday. I am still inpain from a sunburn we all got when we went to the lake on Sunday. Even though we all had sunblock on, I guess it washed off in the water, and did not think to re apply it, so my nose is peeling pretty good!
Oh LK, I hate Lizard Nose!
Remember when she got pregnant they discovered she had something going on with the placenta or something and the docs were worried about her not being able to carry to term?
I had seen that youtube before...I just wondered what people were using for their recipe for leaves...
I saw a couple of the birdbaths that Phyllis has done when I was at her house last year for the Reunion at BJ's. Wonderful....
LindaKay, do you have an aloa vera plant (?) best I've ever used is the juice from the leaves...I'm lucky, I burn and the next day it's a nice brown..you would think with all the time I spend outside in the spring/summer that I'd be tanned but I don't..Sharon my sister can sit out for 1/2 hr. and you see her change shades.
So many ways of making garden art..I'm just wondering what will happen in the next year or so, can't have much more, drats, will have to start on someone else's garden won't I..know it won't be DIL's as my sons aren't fond of what they call 'JUNK' lol
Just ordered pizza and passing the time away sewing afghan squares together..thinking into the future, on a day like this IF the phones go to my house, I can paint..I'm behind in the 2 trompe l'oeil washroom shelf panels..ahhhh can only dream right?
Oh NO!! So sorry you burned yourself on the fire! Yep the ladies gave great advise! Hope it heals quick.
Yikes, Linda Kay, what a bummer about sunscreen wearing off, LOL, my nose always gets it bad.
ohhh, hope you get your package today, ROFLOL, was so excited to be getting it out, forgot to add a lil note...but you just have fun with it!
I found another Sunflower fabric too, so sent it along...(P.S. don't worry about sending any money's just wanted you to have fun with your project!) Also, wowww, thanks so much for the D-mail, I really Loved the art!
Whew, been working on de-cluttering foyer! getting ready to at least cut-in the corners with my first color!
Plus, more laundry going...
Betty, yeppers Steve gave me moolah for painting, and he bought the paint for kitchen!
Also...Everyone came out for a few minutes to see the fire. It wasn't to be a prayer fire so they didn't stay around
It was just meant for fun for her birthday!
Looks like a wonderful fire! Glad the winds died down for you!
ahhh Judy those are such memories that you'll share over and over...glad you got to have your fire...I've lots to burn but between high winds and rain it's been a no-go..maybe this weekend!
It's 57 degrees here today, went to pick up pizza and should have worn a jacket..eating as we speak, keeping lunch for shopping..need new runners..omg watched hoarders the other day and a woman had about 200 pairs of old shoes and just didn't want to throw any away regardless of how worn and dirty they were to so my thoughts are to purchase new ones, go through closet and throw all that I don't wear away..wouldn't take much to get to 200 pairs would it..lol
That is a lot of dirty shoes stuck in the house!
I can't watch that show, my dad's a hoarder, his mom was worse, and I can't stand it, grosses me out! LOL
Judy that's a wonderful fire you did! And Julia joined you, how nice!!!
Hey Lil Injun...give that other lil injun a hug for me! (((Judy, Julia and Bear)))) (well, bear in thought for sure!)
Bill used to work for the gas and electric company as a serviceman. Oh my goodness the stories he can tell about what he's seen!
I just got the best news!!!! The medical insurance rates are not going up this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is good news...
I wonder how much of the HOARDERS is put on for t.v. - cannot imagine for a second that people live like that..
Got my new shoes and promise, will throw away the other 2 pairs of sneekers that I use for loafing and the other for gardening as soon as I get home..
Maybe that's the purpose of the show, to show us what can happen when we start collecting and hoarding to make us want to start tidying up and purging..hope they never have a show of 'get rid of garden art' lol
I'd be in big do/do and just wouldn't listen..
Still no news on Tubby..drats..sending prayers as I'm sure they are needed!
Betty I can tell you people do live like that, my dad and grandmother are part of that scenario. I've seen my dad living on his own and let me tell you if he doesn't have someone picking up after him he would be confined to one little corner of a house. My grandmother Was confined to one little corner of her house. You should watch American Pickers! They collect antiques that the hoarders collect, and buy them from the hoarders, it's great, you should see some of the old cars, signs, gas pumps, incredible of what people collect!
Susan, My Army soldier...whom had to take some medical training says the best thing to do with burns is to rinse in clean, warm (room temp...not cold) water, if you feel it needs to be covered it should be only with dry clean cover....air is the best thing for your skin to recover...if you put ointments...air can not get to burn to help heal......ointments "seem" to feel good, but air is better....
although he does agree that some aloe gel does feel good on a sun burn, but one should not over due it...and you have to have time for you skin to get air....
of course very bad burns where blisters are large and have popped, need different treatment, to keep out infection....
do we have any more news on Stacey??
isn't there anyone with a phone contact for tubby???
love that leaf bird bath!! got to give it a try...
Dave's mom and dad are more Hoarders, you should see those messes! They could be on an episode of Hoarders and dad lives in Arkansas, mom lives in California.
yes, what news on Stacey???
Betty, Thunder - it's a very bad burn - skin peeled off right away, turned white, and it's about 2 1/2" x 1", between the two knuckles of my index and middle finger of my right hand (I'm right-handed....). Y'know the poly strapping that packages are tied with when you buy stuff? Well, that was in the fire, and flipped out red-hot onto my hand.
I read that where the skin turns white are 3rd degree burns. It will definitely leave a scar, but I'm not worried about that. Now that I have salve on it, and a "burn bandage" it feels ok, and I'll uncover it when I go to bed.
Thanks Thunder, nope no telephone number, usually when he goes missing for a few days Shirley takes the time to update us on his condition...last he posted was he was going to the hospital re bleeding lat Monday..worried because even when he is quite ill he posts 1 word posts just to let us know he's ok so very unusual and frightening...
Good info on burns Thunder..is your son home on leave?
This is from Stacey, 2 hours ago on facebook.
Dr will come tomorrow afternoon and let us know what will happen from there-will they take me off the drugs that are preventing labor so Jonathan can come, or will they keep me on them and try to hold off labor for another week or so to let him develop more?? Won't know til tomorrow
Thank you, LK - really appreciate hearing the news about Stacey ^_^
Geaux Saints :)
no, my son is not here. when we went to see him in august.....one of the girls got a burn on her arm on the grill, and some one there said "go put cold water on it" my son said "NO NO" that is the worst thing to do use room temp, or warm water to rinse. then dry bandage, only if skin is burnt enough to be opened, and he continued to tell us that air is the best thing, and if you keep it all covered in ointments, it can not get air. but now in case like Susan, with broken skin you need the ointments to keep away infection....they had a bunch of medical training...for "field duty" we were teasing him before Malena was born that he would be able to deliver his own baby...he said he** no, but he was there when it happened, and she had a c-section!!
OUCH Susan, hope you get better fast.....
I am laying on the sofa with the lap top...got a pain in my backside/butt :( nerve in my hip I think???? been laying down on off all day..uncomfortable to sit,,,don't know what I did.....keep thinking about Stacey, hoping she is doing well. although it is early for me, I am gonna try to go to bed..put my leg up on some pillows....have a good night y'all, and a better tomorrow...
hello everyone..
Hope Baby comes soon or his getting his strength to come.
Susan hope burn is much improved and healing.
i have had some bad burns and letting air on it 3 or 4th day it finally started to heal got good scar though.
I really can't see how that can be true the filth in the homes are so unreal i would be so sick and throwing up. But the neighbors from hell next door moved out in 1 1/2 yrs never sweapt or scrubbed the floor s and di not ever have gas on and water was off 4 or 5 months before left. the new neighbors came over telling about it.
you just never know about people ...
be well, safe , happiness.
Good Morning everybody! I guess for some I should say Good Evening!
I spent over 2 hours in the dentist's chair yesterday and came home with strict instructions of no lifting, pulling, carrying anything heavy plus as many naps as I needed. Gotta love that guy!
LK thanks for keeping us posted about Stacey. I am so glad Chris was able to return and be with her.
How are things going with your boarder Betty? Bet you it will take some getting used to.... even though you have alot of company thats not quite the same. Your pizza for lunch yesterday sounded very good..... reminds me we have no pizza outlet in the village except for a Convenience store so you can guess how good that tastes.
Debbie are you hanging tough with those kitties? They are so cute... would be fantastic if Betty did get one, what a tale that kit would have to tell. Wonder if the kit needs a passport?lol
Susan how is your burn today? You keep a close eye on it cause you sure don't want to get an infection.
Crissy I bet you will find a big difference now you are on Symbicort - I sure did.How are you enjoying your very own office?
Still no news from Tubby?
Going to read for a bit then try to sleep for a couple of hours.
Remember to do something nice for yourself today everybody.
Dianne
Wow Dianne,
You sure are an early riser, I've been up since 5:30a.m. and look at you 4:30..now you will do as the Dr. says and behave ?? Now don't you encourage our Debbie, I can see myself at CrackerBarrel next Sat.or Sun. meeting up with her to find a little box with air holes ready for me to take home..ahhh if we could guarantee the little one would suffocate, I'd try it..
As for Rose, isn't as bad as I though (except for messy room ) lol; I only see her for about 10 minutes in the a.m. and a few hours in the evening and if she had her bike where she could do the trail I don't know that I'd see her much..Kyle came over last night and they both got to gabbing about Ipod's, computers, school etc.etc. so I fell asleep on the couch and they gabbed on. I can see that Kyle although he came often will be here more often..lol..
Rose wants her bike, her rollerblades, a router (?) for computer so it's wireless and she can use her labtop so between the 2 of us we've come up with a plan..I get off early and had planned to go to Midland to see about the enclosure for back deck and would go straight from work, now I shall come home first, Rose will ask to get off 15 minutes early, she doesn't think it's a problem, I'll run her into Midland to the bus shop and off to Toronto she'll go, then Sunday her parents will drive her back and bring the items she needs. It was either this weekend or next so I kind of 'hinted' that if it was this weekend she'd have the bike as the weather is suppose to be nice and that next weekend with my going to Buffalo she'd be here to keep an eye on the furries..so all has worked well..only thing she didn't ask is if she leaves at 4:45 from Midland, what time does it get to Toronto, does the bus do a milk run or is there a long wait in Barrie where they do a bus switch??? so she will call this morning and call me at work..hope we stick to that plan!!
Mary, did your Saints WIN?
Twyla, so nice to see you join us again, been missing you..how are you feeling? Yes, it's hard to believe how some live, but guess they feel comfortable in that situation..the house where you have the new neighbors, is it the house where the man died and it smelt for ions?
Great info Thunder on burns, that would have been my first move, to put my hand under cold water. Not good being in so much pain, hope you were able to get a good nights sleep..has this happened before and did you do something to iritate it..I was in pain for a few days with my back, dah, realized I must have twisted the wrong way when out picking rocks for the paint swap and then sitting on the couch leaning over painting the rocks instead of being downstairs where the chairs and table are at the right level, lordy we're hard on ourselves aren't we?
I've been on the computer checking the sizes of the 'flat rate' boxes, wouldn't you know not 1 of the box sizes will fit what I have to bring across for posting..about 6 boxes I've to mail..drats and more drats..
Stacey sure is having a time of it, not quite like your niece LindaKay but she's where she should be, in the care of good doctors with all the equipment needed should she or Jonathon need specialty care..long wait, so glad that Chris is with her..did she say if Janice came as well..sending prayers ..
Still no news on "Tubby" must get a card sent today..
Bev, any news on the bleeding, have you seen the doctor yet?
Susan, you keeping out of mischief? lol
Joyce have to go pick up a bag of cement for a hypertufa project today..hope all your supplies are now filtered and sitting for your class..wish I was taking it with you.
Well, it's that time of day, having my coffee and counting rag quilt blocks to know how many of each color I have so I can make a design before sewing randomly, that ought to take another 10 minutes and by then it's time to go..
Sure hope Paul is generous as he's been all summer and let's us leave at 1 rather than 3 today..he did say though the short hours were for summertime only, with it being cold/windy he may just think summer is over...
Goodness, everyone is up early today!
Sounds like Betty has everything allplanned out for the week-end.
I will be back and forth today, got laundry to do, and some quilt squares to get done!
I have Christmas quilt block to do this weekend as well Lindakay..I was ahead of the game and now behind..will focus so that I can mail along with everything else next Friday from Buffalo...lordy, work week should be 3 days and play days at least 4..don't know how to squeeze everything into 2 days..
As for washing, I've trained myself to do 2 mini-loads every morning and always on top of it..so easy to get behind isn't it..
Do you dry your clothing outside LindaKay seeing it's so hot, would dry within minutes wouldn't it?
Someone sent me a link for the type of trailer I've been looking for..one in Oakville, about 2hr. drive from here and has a 10x10 screen attachment..3 years old but says not used a lot, towed it with his goldwing bike..only contact you can have is via e-mail so sent an e-mail to find out if it's been sold or not, if it hasn't just might take a run and look at it in the morning..
I hang all my clothes outside! They do dry in no time flat, plus I love the fresh air smell!
Hope you get your trailer!
Stacey posted 25 minutes ago...
