She's about to...53

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh Joyce, I hope your knee is OK! Take it easy though for a few days!

Love those canna's! They are so pertty!

And that Maya brug I bet smells sooooo good! She is so pretty with the variegated leaves! Are her blooms white, or yellow? Some look like they may be a bit pink on the edges?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am taking it easy but I took 2 days of vacation so I could get things done......errrr....today was suppose to be planting day even tho the ground was like rock I watered on Thursday night and was going to plant today.....so disappointed. But I don't want knee problems at all.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Dang Joyce that is a real bummer about that knee. Sometimes it is the dumbest little things like that that get us.

LK the oldest blooms on the brug are a little bit peachy colored. The newest ones are whiter. Looks like there may be 7 or 8 more tonight.

Oh well, back to work. I finally felt like working outside today, so I'm doing my best to kill myself all in one day. My parents are coming tomorrow and I'm just trying to get straightened up.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Rest up, Joyce. What a bummer not being able to get out there. Oooh, that craft fair next week-end sounds like fun! You just have to feel better by then and be up for it.

Save a few blooms for me to take a whiff of, Neener. In the meantime, I'm loving Maya's variegated foliage. I can't wait to hear what you Mom thinks about Pely. So far the other three kittens have managed to flatten two big pots of Caladiums on the side porch, and the only palm I have that's on the back porch looks pretty pitiful...but they're having fun :) Two dogs, one cat and three kittens.....I haven't had this many critters at one time since I was a kid.

For you MG fans, the bloom on this one is the softest Blue I've ever seen and it was huge, at least 4" in diameter.

Morning everyone! Love that soft blue morning glory! Did you grow it from seed?

What is everyone up to today? I just got more hummer food made, and as soon as it is cool, I will be filling the feeders. They go through so much sugar water!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Today for me is finishing up some swaps I have going. Gotta go pick up some daylilies from the daylily guy (hope he comes thru), take my Mom to the store (so much fun...LOL), I hate going to the store anytime, course water (it is warming up here again). Then get ready to go back to work......so sad....rofl.

Beautiful bloom on the MG.
What cha all got blooming?
I have hardy hibiscus still, hydrangas, naked ladies (mine came out later than everyone elses strange), some orange plant I have no idea what it is (has bloomed all summer), the orange plant the butterflies love that put on big seed pods can't think of the name!

Do any of you grow anemones? I thought I planted some but nothing is coming up. I saw those one year and really like them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have one small knock out rose "sunshine" blooming, and a few miniature roses in bloom, Waiting on my brugs to bloom, maybe 2 weeks or so, they have the tiniest little buds now! This year was so sad for blooms here, it was just too darn hot! Hopeing something will bloom before we get frost!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Almost all of my brugs have buds, butterfly ginger is blooming (wonderful smell), tropical hibiscus, only bought like one annual, so I am relying on perennials mostly and a few flowering tropicals I have for blooms this late in the season.

Those growing cone flowers, have yours stopped blooming? All of mine are done for the season.

Knee is feeling so much better. I am so thankful. I will baby it all week. Still has a tinge, but I am so grateful I don't think it will be anything long lasting. Scared me.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello to all you dear friends. It's almost my bedtime but wanted to check in just to say hi. That MG Susan is beautiful, and I would love seeds. As far as that goes, I want seeds from all I've seen.
Linda I have had more hummers in Aug., they are swarming like bees. I am filling 2 feeders daily each with 1 cup sugar water.
Joyce I know you are having fun with the swaps. I sure did but am not involved in a swap at this time, maybe later. So glad your knee is better. Will have your seeds ready for mail on Tuesday......where do I send them?
Will mail out Hardy Hibiscus ( yellow, pink, and I may still have white) on Tuesday to Susan and to Linda. Does anyone else want seeds?
Love and hugs
Faye

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Don't yopu love the hummers! They are such an enjoyment to sit and watch them guard the feeder, and do their aerial acrobats! If you have a few of them, they can drink that nectar!

Glad to hear that knee is feeling better, just don't over do it!

Just one more. This is the only plant in my yard that has had enough water this hot Summer. The arbor (almost covered by the plant) leads to an outdoor shower and boy has it been used. Ray and I both love it.
Hyacinth Bean Vine.

Welllllllll one more. Just have to show you Isabella and a different view of the arbor.

Faye those are beautiful!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Ah Ha so that's what a hyacinth bean vine looks like. Someone sent me seeds years ago and I tried them, but nothing like that ever happened. :0)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Faye, save me some of the beans please for the hyacinth bean vine. I had a small one last year, but it never came back!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Hey LK... just the person I was looking for. :0) You gonna do your PJ swap again this year??? That was a fun one. Elfie had me and I still have my jammies and I love them. Think of her every time I wear them.
Just wondering.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Let me take a look at the list and see what is coming up! That was fun.

Your hibiscus are wonderful, and so are the brugs and mgs. Good growing all of ya! I am off work all next week, will be getting alot of stuff ready to fulfill wishlists.. Hugs and Loves ya..

Morning everyone!
Debra, was beginning to wonder where you were! Enjoy your time off, but don't work too hard!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Beautiful pics guys. I am in love with that yellow hibiscus for some reason. Love the vine and the brug, great picture!

Debra, I think we are suppose to have great weather that week. Fingers crossed for you, and be careful with that back. I am still being careful on my knee. No digging until later this weekend...LOL

Angel Wing begonias are such as strong plants. I have two and I sort of let them go dormant in the winter barely watering them. They look awful come spring, but with a little warmth and water they go crazy. One of my favs.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi! Hope both the knee and back are much better.
Debra what is that pretty big white bloom? Is it a datura? What ever it is, I would like a cutting if possible. Oh shucks, just send seeds of everything in the picture.
Joyce you should have Hyacinth Bean Vine, seeds of that yYellow Hibiscus, and also White and Pink Hibiscus in a short while.
Still have yellow and pink hibiscus seeds if anyone wants them.....also have Hyacinth Bean Vine seeds.
Hugs, Faye

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Hey Faye I have a white datura as well that is popping seeds all over the place. Be glad to send you some.

I also have false indigo seeds that I collected from a client the other day.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Ladies,

Went to a friend's this afternoon and have to go back one morning to see her MGs blooming and share pics with you all. She showed me a bi-color that's yellow and pink. Curled up late in the day it sorta looked like a mini mum. And guess what, Debra. She wanted to know how to collect seeds and thanks to you I was able to show her where they will be. Enjoy your week off.

What's it been, about a month since I started saving coneflower seeds for you all and cut them back? This is Hot Lava last Sunday blooming again. The blooms aren't as large or showy like they were earlier but am glad to have a punch of red.

Coreopsis "Red Shift" is still going strong. It's next to Milkshake Coneflower which I don't believe is quite ready to start deadheading yet.

Thumbnail by FruitOfTheVine
Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

It was a new plant last year and didn't show much of a "shift" in colors but they're really showing up now.

Late daylilies so far are Oriental Ruby, I posted a pic of earlier, Atlanta Moonwalk, Butterpat, and Wild Horses.

Atlanta Moonwalk has double yellow blooms and is a re-bloomer. A bonus on Sunday was seeing these two double blooms together.

Thumbnail by FruitOfTheVine
Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Butterpat is a dwarf and began blooming mid-August.

Thumbnail by FruitOfTheVine
Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Wild Horses, a spider and one of my fav daylily forms, is one I rec'd in a trade last year. It's early and a re-bloomer. Course the deer had to nip its buds off in June and I wasn't able to see how stunning the blooms are til mid-August, and it still has buds. This bloom measured 7" across.

I finally got pictures of my Nieces son, Xavier Amadeus Malone. Xavier was born at 3:46 am on August 26. He weighed 8 pounds, 1.9 oz and was 19.5 inches long. 104 hours of labor, once her water broke!

Beautiful blooms. Love the hot lava!

OMG what a long time to be in labor but look how beautiful he is, LK. Congrats and welcome to the world, Xavier!

Last year was the first time I tried Winter Sowing. One of the plants I had good success with is this Purple Verbena that's been blooming since Spring and think it's made a pretty groundcover. Verbena's I've grown before were tall and am wondering if this one might be "Homestead Purple"? He's http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/251/

AWWWW.. what a cute little baby!
I got to hold a little baby girl today at work. It felt good.
Tonight I pulled the Iochroma, Yellow Morning glory starts, and some black I. Batatas out of the little water tub on the patio, and they were all rooted, so I potted them up. I have alot of brug starts rooting , and I will be fulfilling all your wants in that area.
Faye, I can send you all my seeds that you want come time to send you your brugs.
Susan your day lillys are gorgeous. I also can't wait to see the pic of the yellow and pink MG. Hope you can get a seed pod for me.
Neener, I am glad you are having fun with your MGs.
Joyce, the poor Oleander is just a root ball now, is that Okay? I am so sorry, the heat has diminished it. I have three kinds of datura seed .. Tatula, inoxia and some other one called Lilac de Fleur. none of the purple and yellow ones or the ballerina white showed a bloom yet, and are still very tall. Last year the triple purple grew as big as a tree, but it was one plant out of 50 seeds I planted that grew and in full sun. Go figure. I have several small seedlings of the white inoxia datura, but you have to plant it where you want to keep it. They don't grow well from cuttings, so will send you a couple whole plants. To see my other plants, go to my thread on the MG forum.
Love ya all..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Susan, that looks like the one I grew.. it is supposed to be a perennial, here.. but I think I disturbed the area where it was supposed to come back this past Spring.
Linda sure has a cute little Nephew!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

She has a bunch of different MGs trailing up rail fences on either side of her driveway and promised to save seeds so I can share them with the group. The mix of Sunflower and MG seeds I sowed a few weeks ago have taken off and will post a pic of them tomorrow. Just leaves and buds so far, but one of the MG vines has huge heart-shaped leaves that must be a 6" across.

Hubby said today that Cosmos "Bright Lights" would make a good screen or hedge since it's grown into a bush about 5' tall. I'm 5'6" and had to stretch to reach some of the seeds. It's another one I Winter Sowed, is a prolific seed-producer and can already tell from seedlings popping up around the Mother plant that it readily self sows.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh Yes, I grow those too.. they are always the last ones standing here in the late fall..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Your just now starting morning glory and sunflowers? Please let us know how they go. Will they have enough time to grow and bloom?
