New room everyone!
We came from here... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1118448/

Come and tell us what is happening in your garden!
This is my Monster white last month. Hopefully I will get another round of blooms in a week or two!

Awesome blossom, LK, it looks like White silk.

Thanks for the MG pod info, Debra.

NoID Daylily

Both are beautiful blooms. I will try to get new pics. tomorrow of my blooming plants. MG's are looking bad, I think due to me not watering them enough. The MG's have spread so good on the fence, and I do love them. Thank you again Debra.
Now I have a huge mole problem. Never had them until this year and they are eating my lilies, yellow, orange and lavender. And, Susan, the nerve of them,...remember the beauty you gave me at the RU? It bloomed, was beautiful, smelled delicious and now all I have is a dead stalk. I sure hope those rascals don't start eating D'lilies. Helpppppppppp, they can eat faster than I can plant.
Love and hugs to all.
Faye

Faye, up here people are having trouble with voles.
"Voles can burrow into the root systems of landscaping shrubs and trees, causing young specimens to experience dieback or to begin to lean. These rodent pests will also gnaw on a tree trunk and at the base of a shrub. In addition, voles damage flower bulbs and potatoes in the garden. Mainly, however, voles eat the stems and blades of grass. And the runways they leave behind in the process make for an unsightly lawn." They look like little mice and are quite prolific.

Pretty pics guys. Love them.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Faye sorry you are having mole problems. The only thing that keeps them at bay is a cat. That's why I now have 3 of them. LOL!

Fruity you MG bloom is just like mine that went the other day. Also from Debra.

Maya is twanging and this should be the week for her to flush big time.

Faye, oh my look...one of the Yellow Hibiscus you gave me is blooming. I have never grow Hibiscus and am in love with this color combo. It's a tad windy this morning and the pic isn't as clear as I'd like. If you don't want me to bring you a kitten, the only other way I know how to get rid of moles is to set traps.

Take her a Pye lookalike kiddo!! She will love him.

I hope that hibi sets seeds. I gotta have that one.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is so pretty! Love that color combo!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Faye grew the plants from seeds she'd saved so I'll be saving them too. Anybody else wanting seeds, raise your hand.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Raising my hands! Now tell me how you get a hibiscus to get seeds?

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Gotcha LK. They should set seed pods where the blooms were. Don't know how long it takes though. Faye, it's your turn to clue us in, my dear...lol Or anybody else who knows.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have never had any seed pods on the hibiscus!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Just learned from this link that not all hibs set seeds. Pretty helpful info though I thought: http://hibiscus-sinensis.com/seeds.htm

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the info!

So far four different kinds of Cannas in my garden are setting seeds. Since these are hybrids, they won't come true from seeds but will produce a plant that has similar genetics to their parents. You all are welcome to try any you like.

Indica "Indian Shot" is a prolific seed-producer and has a red plume of blooms on top of 6-8' tall plants. Hardy in Zones 6 - 11. You should see the waves of these planted in the mediums down I-40 near Raleigh. Mine are planted closest to the garage since they're the tallest ones I have and were only covered with a thin 2" layer of mulch last Fall. It got cold quick and I got too lazy to finish the job. So this is one tough plant.

#2 is Orange Punch. This one produces very few seeds, has bright Orange blooms with a yellow throat and orange spots. It's self-cleaning meaning if you brush against it or a stiff breeze blows, the blooms deadhead themselves. Plants grow 4-5' tall and are hardy in Zones 7b - 10.

#3 is a NOID gifted by a neighbor last year. Not knowing its name, I dug up all but 2 clumps last Fall and they didn't come back, but am glad I saved and replanted the rhizomes this Spring. Plants grow 4-5' tall and are topped with Hot Pink blooms that have a small yellow spotted throat. The blooms are not self-cleaning and I've learned in order for them to produce seeds, to wait for the blooms to fall off naturally.

#4 is another NOID from a trade last Spring. Plants are 4-5' tall and bear clusters of Orange blooms with yellow throats and spots. The colors are similiar to Orange Punch but some of the differences I've noticed is this one produces a "fireworks" show of smaller blooms and isn't self-cleaning. So far it's steadily producing a few seeds. Not knowing it's hardiness, I'm going to experiment digging most of them up this Fall and leave a couple of clumps in the garden.

If you don't have much luck growing plants from seeds or that isn't your thing, any of you are also welcome to rhizomes.

fotv, I would love to have some seeds from the Yellow hibiscus. I don't have that color, would be happy to send you seeds from mine or cuttings if you would like. I also have a red varigated leaf canna in my planters at the city, I will dig them this fall, if you are interested in one of those just yell and I will send it. I don't know how many I will have this is the first year for it but will be willing to share with anyone depending on how many I get. The bloom is orange. I don't know if the seeds will come true or not. So far I have been cutting the seeds off because I want it to keep blooming. I need to take a pic.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

We have significant twangage here. Maya this morning. Can't wait for tonight!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, she is going to be so pretty! Wish we could be there!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Wish you could be here too LK. It is actually cooler and nice right now. If only I had the ambition to go out and do something....

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Boy has it been a long week since I said I would get pictures. Anyway here are some more Hibiscus, and each of these came from seeds.
This white one is just a beauty. OH, I have seeds from all three colors and will gladly send to anyone wanting them.

Now for a pink beauty, again from seed. This one came up in my Daylilies and I did not plant it. Aren't birds wonderful?

A closeup of the pink, then i will show the mother plant that the seed came from. Notice the difference in colors.

Now I'm going to show a Yellow Hibiscus that was not planted. The seeds were dropped from a potted plant last fall. This plant is at the edge of the patio, so close that the lawn mower can't get it. There were several and I pulled them up but left this one. Look close and you will see the seed pod....still green.

I am so excited. One of the few Angel Trumpets that did come back from last year is blooming.....She is 1ST Bell and she didn't bloom last year so I didn't know what color she would be. Also have a Yard Sale Yellow blooming and where I planted 3 n 1, 2 of them are blooming.
Here is 1st Bell

OK, just two more, and the last one will be the pretties bloom in my heart.
This is a Humming Bird vine, Butterflies love it too.

LOL now I know I said only two more and this is the last one, but really do have more.

The prettiest bloom in my heart is Snese!

Love and hugs to all.

Beautiful flowers Faye! Lovely dog too!
Save me some seeds if you can please? Thanks

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Linda K, just let me know which ones you want. You are welcome to any I have.
Good night all, and may God bless each of you with a good nights sleep.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Snese is such a sweetheart! If that's a sneak peek of blooms, Faye, I can't wait to see more. I know how much you and everyone else here loves Brugs. Maybe next year I'll be able to grow them too and finally be able to give them a big sniff. You've got me hooked on hardy Hibuscus since one of the Yellow ones you gave me bloomed this week. Would you mind bringing seeds --- any color of your choice --- to the RU next month? Tell Ray I said "hi", hope he's doing well and Hans is curled up in his lap :)

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Is that Dixie??? She's gotten bigger fast!

3 blooms open on Maya last night. Hoping for way more tonight and then I will get another picture, I think I will pull a chair out tonight and sit on the walk and just sniff till my heart's content. The brugs are really kicking here right now. Hopefully they will still be going when you are here Fruitcake. You gotta smell 'em then you will really be hooked.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Hooked will be an understatement. I do think I will cut back on some of the brugs. Someone a million years ago gave me a start of one she pollinated and that crazy thing still has not bloomed. It is a huge plant no blooms ever. So I told it last week, bloom or you are going to get might cold out here this winter.

If you have seeds of the yellow leftover I would love to try it. I haven't done seeds so I don't know if I will be any good or not. If you don't have many send them to the folks that can do it and if you have any you don't mind sacrificing. Mine are still blooming but I don't see any seed heads. The one with the dark leaves I thought I read somewhere where they don't set seed?

Gotta go play weather is so nice!

Joyce

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

That's Hans. He could probably walk under Dixie's belly by now, Mickey sure can. She's growing like a weed and so strong I have to watch how she wiggles so I'm not tripped up. If she ever grows into her legs, she's going to be a hefty girl. This morning when I fed her breakfast, she grabbed my pajama pants at the knee and tore a hole as she proudly lead me to her bowl. My fav jammies, nice and soft like an old shirt. Strike two...lol

I'm hoping the yellow hib produces seeds and will be glad to save them if they do. So far you and LK are interested. Do the leaves on your Canna in the city look like the ones in the pic, in front on the right? Those are Tropicanna I rec'd in a trade earlier this year and am in love with their red & yellow and green & yellow streaked leaves. Just curious if yours look similiar since mine should have orange blooms, no sign of them yet though.

Close up of the leaves.

How's the night-time Brug sniffing going?

Thumbnail by FruitOfTheVine
FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Oh we are having significant sniffage here. :0) Even this morning. Look at this baby. Tonight there will be even more.

Thumbnail by rvnsbrk
Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Yes my canna in the city looks like that and has been blooming for several weeks (orange blooms) must be the same one. It is a happy camper in that "barrel". It has lots of new babies growing around it.

rvnsbrk, that is really pretty all that white against the night. Maya is giving you a great show! I can almost smell it....rofl

Dang, it is not easy to replace great pj's...LOL They become old friends.....I finally have a summer and winter pair that I really like.

Funny you mention, worried about Dixie knocking you down. My big baby Sam and Shortie were playing late last evening and DH and I were walking the bassett when S & S crashed into the side of my knee. I went to the ground in pain. Today my knee is really sore and I am way disappointed, this was going to be my digging and planting day along with push mowing. Pain eased up last night with some really big ibuprofem. I have a big fear of hurting my back, knees, or ankles. Hope this is just a temp thing. I will be good today in hopes it goes away quick. Next weekend is a huge craft show in Independence and a bunch of us get together and go. We walk for a good 6 hours, shopping, looking, eating, and talking. LOL There is a strange popping sound every once in a while and when that happens it hurts like the dickens...whine whine whine sorry rofl.
