Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - Bob's still sitting watching movies, so I guess he's not going into work LOL
I spoke to him about taking a day extra off (his co-worker/warehouse manager is still on HIS vacation until after the long weekend, so dunno if DH can take it off) and he has 1 wk left of vacation, so we'll just have to see.

Mary - I haven't done my solo yet - still practicing - it's on the 29th. I'll have to see how I could do a recording. Think I'll take a movie with my camera, then save it to a DVD.
Hope it turns out ok.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure Susan, everyone will enjoy and your mom will shed tears when she hears her girl sing solo and a favorite tune at that! Everyone deserves a day off, put your feet up and enjoy a movie right along side of him.

Susan, working on another bag and turned off the stove just incase I got sidetracked.

From one extreme to another, got the fireplace on, had a chill, last week a/c was going ...hmmm

Almost feel like a nap, know if I keep at it I'll wake up again..we'll see...watching an old Clint Eastwood movie, he was in his 30's I imagine, what a looker, ah, maybe I can shut my eyes and dream dreams I shouldn't..lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good, good (teasing.....) we won't have to put you in a "home" because you leave the stove on (tee hee!!)
Now, before anyone gets their "knickers in a twist", I'd already teased Betty about this, when we spoke on the phone ^_^

Lyndonville, NY

I am just wondering WHAT exactaly Betty was watching on the internet.....that made her burn the corn....if she is sitting here waiting for pictures o Dave in the "all together"?

lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL, 1st thing Greg says when he comes in, 'you've got potatoes on high-going to have another pot for the garbage if you don't watch it' ooooh he didn't notice the smell from burnt corn last night..I started to laugh said 'you know I can't cook' but he was mamma's boy and said 'you are a great cook mom as long as we tie you to the stove'...

He looked over the dehydrator and couldn't for the life of him think why I'd want or need one...told him to read the box..great for drying flowers...shakes his head...

We watched a movie 'DAVE' and Ned came over for a visit, lordy he's full of mischief..Sailor wasn't thrilled about him being here, Missy is in but Riley has been travelling the last day..I've almost come to the conclusion that someone at a cottage who comes on weekends and for holidays take her in...she'll be home when the leave.

Was disappointed that Crissy didn't come back with her photo's..drats and more drats..lol..

Debbie, burnt the corn because Ann came over and we got to making the big cement birdbath's..never even remembered I had the stove on..not the first time and I'm sure not the last unless of course Susan calls my boys to tell them I'd be safer in a non-cooking facility senior home.

Been quite a day, ribs are hurting me when I breath, and no, didn't move or pick up anything heavy today not sure what's up, maybe I just moved the wrong way so it's bathtub for me and an early night..Greg wanted me to go for a hot tub at his house but just as soon relax here!

Sure was nice having my boy come and spend some 1 on 1 time with me.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty - That sounds even nicer than DH's and cheaper too ! His has 4 trays, is round, with the fan at the top...and it was around $60 at Bed Bath & Beyond....
Linda Kay - I told him about the OJ and Red Pepper.... He's really enjoying experimenting!
Betty - knowing us... DH will be the first to dry flowers! LOL... I WOULD like to try drying some of my herbs....

Funny about the bdays... I suppose some celebrate and some don't. One of my fav things about MIL is that she uses them to get the family together. We have practically one each month. Now that I see how the older teens get...harder to keep them around... I am really glad about that.

12 Passenger Bus ! LOL! You can rent an RV here for about $1000 per week... maybe everyone chip in :) No hotel rooms needed.... Who would drive it? I know I always hear on here about your excursions and escapades.... Who would "Backseat" drive it?

Back in a bit...HUGS,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, I drove school bus when they were in need of drivers, lasted quite a few years..as Recreation Co-ordinator I made my own schedule and hours so it worked well, most of the time I didn't need to use my own vehicle so as for the passenger van it would be a sinch...not sure about back seat driver, if Judy was coming for sure I'd say her..right Judy?? just ask Liz, she'd confirm that Judy would be perfect for the job..lol

Mary, this is the unit I purchaed, wouldn't have imagined it's something I'd have bought but you made it sound like so much fun and besides years ago I used to do apple dolls, now if the trays could be used in such a fashion as doubling the depth I'm sure that it would be perfect. What I didn't realize was how long it takes, yikes, anywhere from 2 to 12 hrs. depending on what you are drying. Now yours might be more powerful and take less time??? Looking at the manual and it was saying how to do herbs, be fantastic because when they aren't in season you could use them for your cooking. Imagine, using your own garden crop all year round.

As for the flowers it says to place them on the tray according to how you want to put them into an arrangement otherwise i.e. if the stem is crooked it will cure crooked and to use flowers that aren't completely open otherwise all the petals will fall..must go look in the garden this morning to see if any of mine could be used and try my luck.

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Will have to go look and see if perhaps one of the trays has more depth than others; wouldn't it be grand if you could in early springtime start to collect flowers from the garden and do so as others come out and make a year round arrangement that you can enjoy and know they are your beauties..

Not very nice outside, damp, not raining but next thing to it, I had enough adhesive flannel for one more bag so will finish it and then look around for more sewing, great way to fill in a day or perhaps I'll go see what's happening on the 'paint a rock' swap and start one of those.

How's the weather everyone in your neck of the woods? is it a stay inside day? well, whatever it is do enjoy!

Be back later, lots of time to gab today

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary forgot the tray photo

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-that isn't bad for drying time-I remember when they first came out my grandpa HAD to have one to make jerky and it would take a couple of DAYS to get it done.....it seems like there would be a way to remove 1/2 of the trays and rig the others to create more space between them.....maybe toothpicks or short dowels??

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are up early Stacey, off to work or just can't sleep in?
When will you be painting the baby's room and setting everything inside?

I really haven't looked at it that closely, will after I go in search of flowers in the garden but perhaps having one tray up and once tray down..as you say, must be a way. Never really thought about time involved when gabbing with people who dry veggies I would have never thought it took that long.

If the unit is on and you can do more than a couple of things at a time, I might run down to the grocery store and purchase a couple of apples and try to dry 'heads'

Can't you tell that it is nearing 9am and I'm already bored.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

What I have sadly learned over time and am stuck with probably for years:
After have no dogs for several years, my spousal unit and I decided on a smaller dog than the huge German Shepherds and Irish setters we had in the past. We were familiar with Beagles and their sweet nature so we got one. Here's the problem: they are the most stubborn dog to train in the world. Calling one to come to you is a waste of time unless your beagle especially WANTS to come. I'm glad I live out in the country because he visits everyone and crossing major roads would be a hazard. We just can't pen him up all day so we are stuck with daily efforts to control his rambunctiosness. By the way, he is sweet and fun and playful, too.

woodspirit, he looks like a wonderful dog, but Beagles are naturally hunters, and if they get a scent, there is no stopping them.

For anyone interested, there is a halloween swap coming up. You h ave to make your own halloween decoration for the swap. Go to the link and check it out.

Betty, have you joined the birdfeeder swap yet?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Betty he's just too adorable, am sure you'll train him to listen or he will train you as to his needs...perhaps he thinks you are his 'toys' lol are there any hunters in your area that could take him on hunts? Sounds as though he's like my kitties, only come when they want to come...frustrating

How old and him name please..glad to see you post, been some time since we've gabbed!

LOL, LindaKay, you must have read how I'm bored today because you are leading me to all the swaps..2 in one day..yikes...think my name is on the birdfeeder, 3B birdhouse, now the painted rock, and now you want me at the Halloween swap..hmmm

Tell me, are you in them all? Must go check..

Betty, you can do it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, right! you know me and halloween, not nearly as bad as Liz but close to..lordy, was in stores yesterday that already had halloween costumes, decorations etc. out. Couldn't believe it.

I'm more excited for what comes next...slap me silly right!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL!!! I was in a hurry and didn't proofread anything that I typed! I'm going to find a pic of the trees across the street! You don't want to see a pic of nude Dave, EEWWWWWWW

That's what I was trying to figure out too, why would Melanie call you to take Ned when Greg's at home, unless she was trying to make it easier for him knowing he'd be gone all day and in just at nights.

Woodspirit my mom has a Beagle and my step-dad built an enclosed chain link dog run and play area for him, they live on 5 acres, and the dog, Scout, is perfectly fine. Your going to have to keep him in something. They didn't have a hard time training Scout at all, you know, the basics. He's housebroken, does some tricks, almost always comes to you when he's called, they do calm down, he's 5 years old now and he's not near as hyper as he was as a pup. Trying to teach a Beagle to not hunt is impossible, that's what they're bread to do.

LOL!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Crissy I'm glad you finally cleared that 'photo' comment clearly, I barely got any rest last night just sitting at the computer waiting for you to post Dave's photo..not sure about others, but this old gal was excited..lol too cute!

Greg was to have worked all day but it was outside and away from home, rain changed work plans so it was nice that I didn't have to go look after Ned and that having extra time Greg was able to visit with me.

Today they are taking Noah to camp, same one Kyle is at, he was away at another camp last week. Noah certainly enjoys his camp days but like Kyle doesn't like being away from his telephone, their way of always being in touch.

Guess Greg and Mel are getting a taste of what it will be like once the boys have left for college or university, won't be long for that..come and go as you please!

Not good, made a caramel cake with sauce for Greg and I, ooops forgot Greg doesn't like sweets (except for his lemon merangue pie which he asked for) and already it's 1/2 gone and am sure by the end of day there will be nothing left. My excuse is that coffee needs something to go with it.

I cooked enough tomato/hamburg, maccaroni to fill 3 dishes for freezer and a big caserol dish ..filled with mozzerella cheese so guess what's for lunch and supper?

Should call Aunt Muriel, mom was telling me that she had a car accident on Friday, on the back concession there is a bridge, you have to let one car go by and then you can go, it was her turn but oncoming vehicle lost control in dirt and slammed into her. She is not hurt, just sore, lordy, just bought that vehicle no more than 2 months ago..think she's more shaken than anything else. My cousin has moved in with her, her hubby likes showing how strong arm/hand he is with her so glad she has company..might just do that, call them and have them over!

For those of you with me for some time, you'll know I'll not be bored, sure does like to talk, 8 subjects at a time (due mostly from her having a stroke a few years ago)..

Off I go to call now that I don't have to wait to see Dave's photo..

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Smokey is not a puppy; he is 3 years old now! My husband spoils him terribly. We have a small lot so no room for a fenced yard for him. He follows my husband everywhere until he tears off barking at other dogs or on the scent of something. Sometimes, he goes over the mountain to a horse farm where he has a friend named Daisy. The owners wouldn't mind except he has chased the horses before when they are out riding. So, they lock him in a stall and call us. Sometimes we just go over there to see if he's around when he's been gone awhile; he's always there.
What a little stinker! Because of all the running, his vet said he was the most muscled dog he had examined. He weighs 30 lbs!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm laughing at the site of him running to horses, Sailor here would do same with our goats... guess it's inbred in them. You are lucky the neighbors don't mind. Beagles are muscular aren't they?

Gabbed to Aunt Muriel , she's hurting so will not come over tonight. Barbie is having such a hard time of it, husband beats her, kids say leave, she leaves and now that the house is up for sale and she has a separation paper they won't talk to her..my guess is they are worried they'll have to look after their father..yikes, life is not easy is it.

I'd offer for her to come here, but to tell you the truth I'd be afraid that her hubby would come with a gun, just the type of person he is...she's left so many times and he's told her he would but she goes back home, this time it seems as though she is sticking to it.

I'd better think about !

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debating, do I run into Midland for 1/2 meter of fabric which would complete another green bag or use what I have as scraps...
Still in jammies, might make me want to get dressed but on a cold rainy day, yuk..should just stay and mellow out..but 66% off the fabric I need and the thoughts of not matching, hmmm what to do, what to do?

Gave the red/blue bag to Suzanne on Monday, these are the 3 I've finished since, had ALMOST enough, or enough if I go to Midland to finish another 3, having goodies wrapped and ready always comes in handy here.

Hello All !

Well - Crissy - you had us all waiting :) ROFLOL! I was laughing so hard at your comment....and the ones that followed :)

Okay - Go ahead and send your pic of trees !

Hey Betty - Ours is similar... I'll try to get a pic...but drying mechanism is on the top... I don't think we can change our trays but my Mom had one like Stacey is referring to...I believe... when they first came out.

Woodspirit - Smokey is a cutie... will he grow larger or is he done at 30 pounds?

Well - Betty ... I'll just have to play the lottery so when I win I can buy you an RV...and you can drive it all over transporting DG friends here and there....visiting...checking out garden stores. And Judy can "Back seat" drive... Can see it now !

Betty - that situation sounds like one where you give support from afar... You don't want to create a dangerous situation for you & yours.....
Glad you got a good visit in with Greg. I admit it .....I was Hm... is annoyed the word? that he brought Ned after you had stated your position on that...however I suppose it's well worth a good visit. And at this point you know Riley will come back.

Hugs to all,
Mary

Baton Rouge, LA

A friend of DS and his Family will be a part of a special on CNN tonight... the special is called "In America: New Orleans Rising".... it is at 7pm "my" time (CST).

Jacques is on the Drumline (DS was drum capt. last year) and I met his mom Lisa through my efforts with the Band Boosters... a VERY lovely lady. I met the dad too...just never really got a chance to know him as well. I think I'll understand why when I watch the show in it's entirety... I looked up a few clips on cnn's website.

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, it's something one should do for family but do know his temper and do know his capabilities, he's drunk most of the time and who knows what he really is capable of..he's about 6'2 and 400 lbs. Barb is 4'11" and about 110lbs..that just tells you what kind of guy he is.

I should go check my $39million dollar lottery ticket shouldn't I, would never want to win that much, $500 thousand would be ideal and yes, first thing I'd purchase would be an r.v. - boy would I be travelling.

As for Ned and Riley, almost think it was the big cone on his head and his being so full of energy. I'm blaming it on Ned, but last time Ned was here he seemed fine, more likely that Riley goes to visit a 2nd family.

Ended up getting dressed and into Midland, omg, almost everyone in town must be going stir crazy with the weather and are out shopping, when I got to Fabricland I almost left, not much left but did find some matching fabric and picked up another 8 threads for Melanie's Christmas basket and some buttons to match the next set of bags.

So now back into my jammies and find out what else I can do to pass the time of day!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

You all are too funny, that will be the last time I don't proofread what I have written. ROFLOL

My mom's Beagle is way overweight at 45lbs, which is not muscle lol. Beagles are supposed to weight between 18-30lbs. They are prone to gain weight so they're only supposed to have 1-2 meals a day, with no snacks between. My mom and step-dad were feeding him anything he wanted, at any time, I think at his heaviest he weighed 60lbs. The vet chewed them both out big time and since Beagles don't lose the weight they gain he's still way overweight, but only gets one meal a day and 4 treats in the evening.

Huh, I'll tell Dave that we need to watch that this evening.

Yea Betty, I wouldn't let anyone stay with you that's in a bad situation like that, if she were to stay with you it puts you right in the middle of their fight. I wouldn't do it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, they are killing him with kindness..mom did that to a couple of her doggies I'm sure. Every night Jim would pick up a hot beef or hot hamburg for the poor pouch, he was as wide as he was tall, you'd have thought they'd have learned their lesson but NOT!

I thought Sailor was way overweight but once she got shaved last week she really isn't.

Wonder what time it's shown in our region, will have to check it out as well..Mary's 7 is my 11 so I'll go check t.v. listing and see if I can find it.

Betty, sister has a dog called Smokey..American Eskimo..that reminds me she was showing in Washington, same town as Trisha lives in, wonder how she made out?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, right now there is a show on, young youth gabbing about trials /tribulations in New Orleans..called New Life in New Orleans. Will keep checking t.v. guide must be on one of my channels tonight

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - just to be sure I don't HAVE to call your boys, you'd better NOT leave anything on an element that's ON!
You have so much on your plate, that maybe you should determine the time when you do nothing but cook - don't answer the phone, leave the room OR do crafts. Dedicate your time, so you're not distracted (Like I should talk) ^_^ I have a "pot graveyard" too LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL, Susan I don't think anything could cause me to spend time over a stove, look at when we were talking, I said I'd stay close by to mac cooking and then got washing a few pans and nearly burnt it sooo staying in kitchen still won't do the trick..I have to want to cook!

Just heading out to June's for awhile, she asked if I could come over for a 1/2 hr. something she needs to show me so out I go..

Verona, ON

Betty we get the show Mary mentioned at 8pm on CNN. Do you get that channel with your service? Mary thank you so much for mentioning the programme, I might have found it as I looked at the TV guide but then again my sight still isn't quite back to its normal state.
Well Chrissy ya had me all in a dither here waiting for the pic and you dashed my dreams. Do you know how many cute men you see waaaay back in the bush where I live? Just my DH but don't tell him I said so and my Stormy dog.
Waiting on a Banana Blueberry Loaf in the oven - tried an experiment so we shall see. Smells good though!
Rain, rain, rain and oh yes a bit of thunder in between for the last 2 days. Monday is to be the same. LOL Betty we went into the village and it was jammed with vehicles and people.
Enjoy your evening everyone.
Dianne

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-that blue bag in the middle is beautiful!!! The other are nice too, the blue just caught my eye. PS-that thread is the same brand I get...

I for one can't believe that Barbie's kids still have anything to do with that monster they call a father. I would also let her stay with me after I borrowed BIL's shotgun-I DETEST bullies of any kind and that is what her "hubby" is....if she did come stay with me, I would discuss a timeline with her for her independence...

LK-I was waiting for a Halloween one, but that one isn't for me I think...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, you have me laughing, we old gals sure could use a photo here and there or even pull a Debbie and go to a restaurant that feeds firemen..omg, is it a pre requisite to be gorgeous and well built in order to be a fireman or policeman these days?

I haven't even seen the streets as busy on a long weekend, must be rain days are driving everyone out..good for merchants though.

Thanks Dianne, I'm with Rogers and almost certain I'd have CNN...will check at 8pm.

You banada/blueberry loaf sounds tasty..I finished my caramel cake and now I'm kicking myself for having no willpower.

Thanks Crissy, yes the blue bag is pretty, butterflies I think is what attracted me to it. Have enough of same for 1 more. Not unless Barb has no one to turn to will I step in..Aunt Muriel will keep me posted as to how she's doing. She's working 2 jobs to pay mortgage and bills so he can sit and do nothing, doesn't want the bank to take over the house...being in the business I'm in and knowing he may have mortgaged the house to the tilt maybe she should call me and gab but Aunt Muriel seems to think if she sells she'll get quite a bit but there are so many aspects that one has to look at in the meantime. Certainly don't want her to think Aunt Muriel is talking about her and her situation .. might upset her even more.

Can't believe it's 7pm already, I've accomplished much even though I've been in slow motion..this afternoon I've put 4 rows together of an afghan, had I had more wool in softer tones I'd have gotten more done..think this one will be for Ann/Mike, colors match their sunroom.

Have to get into something now or I'll fall asleep without checking the program Mary told us about!

Verona, ON

Mary was Jacques Jake's friend? I really enjoyed the programme.... there is so much we do not hear about the rebuilding of New Orleans here in Canada. And of course politics has to raise its ugly head every time!!!! Thanks for telling us about it. Still got cake???
Unfortunately we have had a sad thing happen to the Fire Department in the next town over - Napanee. Several of the men went to Windsor to compete in the Firemans' Competition... on the way back Sat. night the bus they were in was in an accident near my old hometown. The bus company and a reputable one at that here in Kingston sent a bus up to retrieve all the people and some family members went up to assist bring the wounded and injured home. That bus rolled again near my home town and 1 of the women who went to bring her injured DH home was killed. Several are in hospital in stable condition, of course all we hear now is relayed info so will wait till tomorrow to get all the facts straight. Certainly makes my heart heavy tonight. Some of these men were volunteer firefighters - where I live that is all we have and they are pretty special people to us.
Banana blueberry loaf was a success.Gotta be healthy for you with all that fruit in it... well doesn't it?
Sweet dreams everybody

Hello Diane !

Jake belongs to Judy LOL! Judy, Debbie & I are the "Triplets" with kids all around the same age....similar "Challenges" going on.

BUT - yes... Jacque is Brock's friend... on the drumline with him... Jacque's mother Lisa was one of our Band Volunteers... You saw the Band Room... I know ALL those kids in that quick picture... wish I could see it again...it passed by so quickly....

I have a pic.... I'll look for it and be back. SO glad you watched it... THANK YOU!

I am mopping up tears still... :)

Verona, ON

I'll get all these kids names straight yet!

Lyndonville, NY

Good luck with that Dianne...I think we even mix our kids up at times!

Mine are all at Darien lake for their first "concert" without parents. I will no doubt be up til 1:00a.m for them to get home....and try and not worry every time I hear a siren, or phone call, or something. DH is so distraught...he went to bed. LOL How do fathers get to do that so easily.....just knowing we moms take enough worry for them?

DH and I went out to dinner....nice little town dinner in Albion. I had veal parm....he had chicken N biscuits. I stared down the cheesecake in the case.....but stuck to my willpower and came home to my fresh fruit the in laws brought over today!

Betty, did Riley come back home after this last outting....knowing Ned visited?

I get to go off my benedryl tomorrow to see what this rash is going to do....so hopefully I do not "re-rash" and it is gone. I am a bit nervous about this.

DD starts back to college tomorrow also. She will be commuting this year...no more dorms for her. Just not a dorms kid. About passed out getting her books. Just under $600 for 5 book, 3 of which were used!

Mary, did you name that puppy yet? Poor Shirley....lol

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Diane - Here is a pic with Jacque & Brock.... Jacque is right in the middle....

Brock is the one with the hands outstretched...

I'm SO glad you watched it too! It was so emotional for me...

Debbie ! LOL re: worrying. I do the same... Can't really sleep well unless I know all the chickens are back in the coop.... And they like to stay out so late now...

I am ashamed to say... "Puppy" is still "Puppy". I'm sure any names I propose "aren't good enough" so I just keep my mouth shut. LOL

Back after posting this pic of Brock with Jacque from the CNN Story....

Dianne - Here is Jacque's Mom... a VERY lovely lady... she had just served an entire Thanksgiving dinner to the Band before the football game... this pic is Lisa, the Band Director, and another Band Mom....

Thanks for letting me see the pics. I just can't imagine feeding all those hollow legged young men at one time! It was bad enough in our house that mam had to cook a pot of potatoes for my brother and another pot for the rest of us.
What time is the concert over Debbie? Is Shannon least ways excited about starting back to school?
Pouring rain here, with water on 3 sides of us and all this rain the house smells damp. If it is like this tomorrow I am going to light a fire in the wood stove. In fact I might just start one tonight. I know I can hear DH now, its bad enough we haul that wood in all winter you are doing it now. We heat with wood and have moved this winter's wood over closer to the house all set to go. I'm a force to be reckoned with, with my chain saw or at least that is what DH tells his friends.
