Hey Dianne-
What a Tragic story about the Firefighters! is the story on the news yet?
So glad to know the Blueberries go with the banana bread... I like to make banana bread from time to time...and zucchini bread... I will have to try that... !
Deb - are you gonna stay up and wait for the kids?
We had 100 degree temps today... VERY interesting to hear about ya'll "heating up" the house !
Dianne - Feeding the Band dinner before Football games was one of the projects I instigated... and it was the one I enjoyed the most. I don't know why... I'm just weird I guess.... I would feel SO much joy watching them all line up to eat! This will be the first year I won't get to feed the band (DS graduated). Lisa from the CNN story enjoyed it too.. she would always volunteer several times and bring a great spread of food!
Hugs,
Mary
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!
Aw Mary that was so sweet of you to 'feed the band' .... when I taught I always cooked my class a Christmas dinner the last day of school before holidays. For some of those children that was the only Christmas meal they would get. Depending on their age we also made gifts for their families, we baked treats for them to take home and they also made stockings to hang for Santa. I always filled the stocking for them, they were of an age that they knew Santa was not real and would laugh at me cause I always insisted I believe in Santa.
Now 2 weeks ago I was whining loudly about the heat.... we are just not used to such long periods of times with temps 85* and over before the humidity is factored in. Personally I love the winter and the cooler temps. Think that came from when I went through menopause. Many a night I sttod barefoot in the snow with steam rising from my feet. Besides in the winter you can always put on clothes, in the summer there is only so much you can take off.
Last Friday Aug 13 was the 50th Biker Day in a small town Port Dover on Lake Erie. We didn't go and haven't the last few. Great times, over 50,000 bikes there this year. Heard it was a quiet, well behaved gathering - aw we are all getting mellow in our old age. Friend emailed me to tell me what a blast he had and that we were really missing out. Biker Day in Port Dover is every Friday the Thirteenth no matter what time of year.
I'm going out to get kindling! This is enough!! I have socks on for heavens sake and I don't even wear those in the winter.
Dianne
Dianne - before I quit my last job... I REALLY considered teaching.... I come from a family of teachers and respect Teachers so so much !
You never know who you are dealing with (with kids) and their issues they face at home.
Lisa (from the CNN Story) was SO SO generous ! I always assumed they had plenty at home ....that was why they could provide TWO Meals (no one else but myself ever provided more than one and that was fine with me because I enjoyed so much).
I never ever thought they were displaced from a home in New Orleans till I saw this special tonight.
You have so much more knowledge of that than I...having been a teacher yourself..... who's to say those band kids may not have had a decent meal at home? I never considered it... but I suppose it's a given. I find myself to be SO naive at times.....
Hugs,
Mary
Yes, I stayed up and waited for the kids. They are home safe....I have more gray hair....and am going to bed! lol
Morning all
So enjoyed last nights chat, don't have time to post at the moment but have the entire day to do so.
OMG last time I checked the clock it was 7:20pm thank goodness MIL called to thank me for the flowers at 7:50pm or I'd have missed the show..
Mary I enjoyed it tremendously, amazing how much courage people have, to not have a thing left and have the strength and fortitude to start over. That elderly couple especially, imagine, using a cane and barely able to walk and yet gutting his home!
Dianne, not as chilly here this morning but damp, think it's another rain day, thought I'd put the fireplace on until I leave just to make it cozy..
Debbie, glad the kids got home safely, while you worried I bet they were having the time of their lives. Your schools start so soon? ours not until after the long weekend
Watching the clock, best I get a move on
Gab later this morning
Chilly here, heavy rain all night, I ran out to bilge DH's boat about 4am. So glad I had a fire going.
Yes me too Betty very impressed by the older couple featured in the story. How proud they must have been when they bought that first home!! You could still see it and hear it not only in their eyes but their childrens' eyes.
Dianne
Betty-you are too cute-you replied to my last post, but called me Crissy!!LOL
I can't believe anyone has a fire going!!LOL It would have to be in the 40's B4 I would do that-I still have my AC on;) Guess I am just too hot blooded this year to think about it....
Betty, just the colleges are starting now. Regular school starts after Labor day...aka Sept. 7th first day.
I went to bed a bit after 1:00, was back up with "cat" issues...she is such a brat and just wanted to prance all over me up and down the bed. Then was up at 4:30 when DH went to work....and up since 7:00 now. Grrrr.
Rainy Monday here...they say the high is only 70 today!
But Crissy, he's wearing a shirt.
If I had me a man I'd say let's do a calendar, each and everyone of us supply our favorite photo (dressed of course) that includes you 'Tubby' and I could make them and send them off but boohoo, no man/no photo..lol
Dianne that is sad about the accident, will have to check the news channel .. prayers for all and their families..when something like that happens in a small community it affects everyone in some manner.
Paul is here this morning, along with another staff manager for the Hamilton office so things are hectic, be back shortly.
Stacey, sorry, when you get old you can't retain a lot..
Debbie, don't you just love these kitties sleeping with you..it's the pawing that drives me crazy!
Betty, normally when Huck & Toby sleep with me, I sleep so wonderful. They just purr me to sleep. DaisyMay, is a pain in the behind.....and just so needy. You walk in and she "bolts" under the bed. You can only touch her on HER terms...and those terms are apparently 2:00 a.m. when all the lights are out and you must be needing sleep....and she demands attention.
LOL Debbie, can't imagine having your schedule, I'd be exhausted, between family/friends and the furries..are you feeling better this morning? Glad Paul got you out for lunch yesterday, that's always a fun thing to do!
Dianne that's horrible!! We have volunteer fire depts where I live too, so I can totally relate.
Debbie I bet you take a nap this afternoon! I woke up at 5am with Tiga licking my nose.
Think all get more kisses from the furries than the hubbies..lol..when Ned was visiting all he wanted to do was get up on the couch and give me 'licks' yikes he's a big do..slobber/slobber...not as bad though as when I had Chico, St. Bernard pup, lordy he'd shake his head and you'd have slobber all over
Oh yea, YUK!
So I've found myself between a rock and a hard place. I went to a DG luncheon in Little Rock Saturday afternoon, I was gone 4 hours total I think, then last night me and Dave went out to dinner. He is selling his kayak because he's too big for it and there's a kayak RU in the middle of September that his childhood friend is going to. I asked him if he was going to go, he said 'Yes, absolutely!' On the way home he was saying that it's not fair (this is not the first time I've heard this) that I get to go to NY, up into Ontario, see people in Cincinnati, go to RU's in Mississippi, meet people in Memphis, and do all of these things and all he does is work (he hasn't had a job since Christmas but does A LOT around the house) and doesn't have anyone to do anything with. He can't see good because his optical lens in his right eye is shattered, he can't hear good because his ear drum in his left ear is blown, and he's so hyper he won't sit still and just listen and enjoy, he's always got to be moving around and talking. I feel bad, but he won't do anything that has to do with the gardening group, period, if I go anywhere to an RU or luncheon or anything he complains because he feels left out. If I invite him he refuses to go. If I don't go he's on me that I should go and be around some friends. If I plan a trip for me and him to go somewhere he doesn't want to travel and would rather stay home. If I don't find someplace to go and suggest it he wants to travel and go do things.
I don't know what to do!
Crissy, make plans for the week-end, and tell him he is going! He will baulk at it, but he will enjoy it! Sounds like he is looking for someone to tell him what to do!
Wow, Crissy you did know that would come up at some point didn't you?
Too bad Jeff isn't closer or he'd pick up the kayak, what kind? length?
Hard to please someone when they won't co-operate...tell him to arrange an outing or a visit and you'll gladly join him..see what he comes up with..haven't had a hubby in so long not sure how to answer your 'don't know what to do' must be frustrating for sure.
LOL, 2 comments and both opposite, got to love it! What have you been up to LindaKay? Weather starting to be more enjoyable for you to get out into your garden?
Just waiting for my oldest Niece to give birth. Her water broke 36 hours ago, and she is at home with the midwife, waiting for things to happen! I have sent her several emails, told her I am concerned, but she told me she did not need advice, she is listening to the midwife! So sitting here on pins and needles, hoping things are OK, since we lost Lillie a few weeks ago, guess I am just a worry wort!!!
No wonder you are worried, I would be in your shoes as well, usuall far before the 36hr. mark the doctors would have gone to alternate birthing methods..omg will say a prayer..you must be frantic especially after the loss of Lillie...hugs going your way!
Betty this is why I have a hard time doing anything, every time I do something with someone I have to hear about it months and months later. This is why I had a hard time deciding to come up there with you even though he was telling me to go, I said it would come up at some point in time, well here it is!
He doesn't want to kayak because it wears him out too bad, but he does want to kayak because it's something he can do that doesn't wear him out. He doesn't want to hunt because he doesn't like to hunt, plus he can't see anyway, but he wants to go hunting because he likes to hunt. See the pattern here? He's so hyper he doesn't know what he likes and doesn't like, but seriously needs to find a hobby.
LK I have tried that so many times in the past it is unbelievable, he won't go because it costs too much, but then lets go somewhere because it really doesn't cost that much.
LK How Cute is that!!! I bet you are worried, I'm going to ask my friend how long her daughter was in labor after her water broke, it was quite a while..
She was in labor 19 1/2 hours at the hospital after her water broke, the dr broke her water to induce labor from the getgo.

Normally, they don't want it to go past 24 hours from time water breaks....for fear of infection. Especially with a midwife. Usually they give you some pitocin or such to get you moving a bit faster. Hopefully that midwife will have common sense and say "we need a doctor" before you really do in an emergency.
I will tell you LindaKay, you are right to worry....but a laboring mother can be worse than a bear ...don't cross them! Will keep your dear niece and that baby in my prayers.
A nap, you say I should take a nap? Ohhh I am up to advice today. lol Kids are still sleeping....and I am getting very heavy eyelids. lol
I had a "incident" with my MIL yesterday regarding my "puppy". Ya'll know, it is no secret....I am NOT the womans biggest fan. She is cruel, crude....and just a miserable individual. All she kept saying to the dog was "I don't like you, I don't like big dogs, please don't lay near me....go away." I looked at DH and smiled....and he looked at me with the "please don't kill her" look on his face. My FIL knew I was biting me tongue big time....and he was just trying to hold it back. Gave me a hug bye and said something about me surviving with no blood shed. lol
LOL Debbie! Like the dog could understand her. Oohhhh I'm going to bite my tongue here too!
Oh our Izzy could understand Chrissy. I am surprised Izzy didn't bring her frisbee and drop it on MIL's knee. Of course Debbie didn't tell her to do it!
OMG Debbie, doesn't having that experience with a MIL just want to make you the best MIL in the world..can Izzy be trained to pee on command?
Crissy must be difficult to have a normal relationship under such pressure of do you do it or don't you do it? just not sure what to say!
LindaKay isn't he just too adorable, don't they grow up much too quickly, seems like mine grew up overnight..seems they just now started kindergarden and already they are in high school, well Kyle and Braedon are..it's Caleb's 11th birthday today..they are off at the cottage so I left a message on their recorder, will try to text him but if not he'll know I didn't forget..
On a normal day when he comes up with let's go here in a couple months or let's go there next weekend I know it can all change by then. The man changes his mind when the wind changes directions, literally! I've learned to just ride the wind currents. It makes for very tough decisions on my part though because I know he cares, maybe not then, but 2 months later he will! LOL
Happy Birthday to Caleb!
It has actually stopped raining!!We did have a fire and the house now feels much drier.I hate it when the clothes come out of the dryer and feel damp before I can get them folded and away.
Betty don't let Debbie fool you. Miss Izzy is much brighter than she lets on and I have it from Izzy's mouth to Stormy's and Quill's ears Debbie has actually been trying to get Izzy to pee on command.
LK your grandson is adorable. They all look so cute and 'put together' the first day of school don't they?
Crissy-sounds to me like not having a job is making him super restless...sorry that it is so difficult.....
LK-hopefully the midwife will get her poop in a group soon and see the right thing is done by your niece-ie her going to the hospital.
Any news LindaKay, add the hours we've been waiting to the already 36 and I'm starting to worry!
Dianne, I can't think after spending a week with our Debbie that she'd ever do such a thing..lol..well maybe if provoked; know a few people I'd like to train Sailor to do same.
Stacey did you ever consider home birthing with a mid-wife?
ROFL, Izzy does pee on command outside....and I was NOT going to let her do it in the house. lol
I did make a remark about it being called "Fur-niture" for a reason.
Izzy is a smart girl....I say "kitchen" and she gets up and lays on the couch, loveseat or behind DH's chair. Its a simple command, she knows if she doesn't lay down, she will go in the kitchen in her bed. She even knows "leave it be"....perhaps someone should teach MIL that command! lol
LOL Thanks Stacey! I think that's exactly what's happening, but even when I do something that he can't do even if he wanted to because he has to go to work he still complains about it, how he didn't get to go because he had to work, when it's something like a Tupperware Party that he has absolutely no interest in anyway. I don't get it! Sometimes I swear he's worse than a woman!
LOL Debbie! I could just see it now, she starts getting into something and "Leave It Be" and she stops.
More like MIL starts nagging on something and I say "leave it be" and she shuts up! Nahhhhh that will never happen. She will go "WELL....and huff" and stick her nose in the air. Even FIL has said one day she is goign to trip and fall from having nose so high she can't see where she is going.
she is the first to criticize everyone...but do not say anything to her. She is a horder....like those you see on TV, it is very sad. Her walls are top to bottom with endless pictures, cards taped up everywhere, ribbons saved, several hundred books and photo albums everywhere....a 3 ft path goes through the house....and you can't get anywhere else. FIL has also said he better die first because he isn't cleaning that all out....he will drop a match! lol
Remember you telling me about her hording, maybe you should send her name in for the HORDERS, lordy, watched that once or twice and can't believe it...guess my boys should watch the show and they wouldn't think I've a lot to get rid of..
Seems as though Debbie you have everything under control as to how to deal with her, hard as it may be.
How's Paul doing today?
He went into work...he seems so down, and I know it is the "waiting" to see what is going to happen with his vision.
Yes I do know how to handle MIL, I avoid her whenever possible. I have found the last two years...I have a VERY hard time biting my tongue any more out of respect. Now if she shows up over here unexpected....like yesterday....she is on her own! LOL
Still no news on the baby! Guess we will all sit here, and worry together!
How about a fresh pot of coffee, or fresh sweet tea if you want something cold!
So Paul is at work but light duties right? lol...
LOL..my MIL didn't want to let go of her 1st born, had 10 more so not sure why, had problems, always and to this day call her Mrs. Pauze, mostly because that's what you did in my day..
Debbie, I was looking at Walmart and they had a book reader, was $179.99 forget the name of it, do you think Walmart brands are ok?
She did call me last night though to thank me for the flowers, that was a plus!
Called Caleb again, imagine, he's out buying a laptop with his birthday $$$..don't know about gifts kids get for birthdays, I wouldn't even mind getting a laptop.
Spoke with Jeff, he's away on the long weekend so I might call and see if the boys want to come and spend the weekend with me, we could do wonderland, invite Kyle and Noah - spend the day there then come up and see what there is to do in my neck of the woods...
He's looking after telephone system, seems to think within the next month I'll be home working..now if my son can get me working from home who can?
Still praying for a quick delivery LindaKay..bitting my nails right along with you.
I'll have to call tonight when he's back from shopping..
5 more minutes
