Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!

All of the physicians I know are research pathologists, but I will ask around. One of them works at the Children's hospital, doing Bilirubin research.

Lyndonville, NY

The thing these women forget, there body can only do so much with what it has to work with. You get a large baby in there...slightly off turn, and that child is NOT coming out. No amount of waiting is going to get that child out...and a doctor is needed. I was AT a hospital when my son was born, that child...not baby...child...as he was half grown....broke my pelvic bone upon entrance for being so big. Modern medicine told me he was about 8lbs my last appt.....he was 10 lbs 5 oz...and 23 inches.

All that stress on the baby from 60 hours labor is not good either or the damage to the placenta.

Does she have any other children?

Saying prayers, and now I have gotten myself all worked up....lol

Debbie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I don't blame you for being worked up, Debbie - this is not nature's way, to keep a baby in the mother that long after the water broke.
The physician told me that at 3 min contractions, the baby should be born very soon, and that was long hours ago.
When I asked the physician, he said (although he's not an OB) that he didn't know what damage could be caused, but he felt the midwife should be legally bound to bring the patient to the ER after it had been to this point (actually far before this point).
Perhaps that's why LK's niece is not posting on Facebook, because I'm sure she won't have access to Facebook in ER! And it's not likely that the midwife is posting on her behalf!!
I will keep mother & baby in my prayers, and thoughts....

Back here checking along with all of you and praying that we'll hear news shortly. Yes, I would think the midwife has some obligation..are they government certified, see how much I know?

LindaKay, don't we sound like we're violent ladies..

Debbie, shook my head when you mentioned having a child and not a baby, no laughing matter, must have been a terrible birth..wouldn't want to do that too many times or your body would be shutting down...what we women don't go through!

Susan, glad you are keeping busy but I'm sure as the days go by it will hit you and when it does don't be too hard on yourself..know you'll say you are made of strong stuff, aren't we all but a change in your life, leaving a job you so like has to make an impact...enjoy your outing

Betty, he was actually one of the easiest out of the four...until my pelvic bone cracked. Reason he was my LAST! Now if they could have guaranteed I would have all boys after him...I might have tried one more time. BUT....wasn't taking a chance. My first was actually my worst with a 5 day stay in ICU...she was a small child herself, but not up to her brother.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - today is a very hard day, for more than loss of job.....
I'm feeling very out-of-sorts, and weepy

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

OUCH! Debbie, tha must have taken time to heal! I thought mine wer big at 9.4 and 9.14!

She has two other kids, and her last one was born c-section, so I would think that would give her heads up, to be so very careful!? Guess she is not thinking or getting the right advice!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'll send some hankies if it will help...I'm sorry you are out of sorts today. But remember that He works in mysterious ways and you have no idea of what may be in store for you. Smile Susan. We are here for you.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty - we are getting kinda long here. Any chance on a new thread?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I just spoke to a college, and going there @ 2:30 for a talk with one of the admissions officers to see about upgrading my accounting skills. I haven't used them since I graduated as a mature student in 2003......

Do you know what I learned today? Kingston does not have an Ikea..... I thought ScanDesign was Ikea. DH just rolled is eyes. We drove on down to Home Depot and got just what we needed for half the price.
Oh Betty Verona is so small that is the summer with all of the tourists and fishermen we might have 400.
Waiting for news LK you must be so stressed by now.

Just the fact that her last baby was a Csection is cause for concern about a natural delivery on this one-it says it all over the place in books and online...I am just shaking my head here...

Debbie-they don't usually let them get that big now adays-they will induce before that since it makes the delivery so hard and the pressure it causes on the cervix isn't good either..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Shoot, I used to work with a gal who had 4 kids, all 4 of them were born at home, completely natural, the smallest was 8.5lbs, the largest was 11lbs. She said that all 4 of them broke her pelvic bone. Now could you imagine having 4 kids, all 9 to 11 pounders without any drugs?????? I think that's insane!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I heard that once you have one c-section you are not able to give birth 'naturally' after that. I've always wondered how much truth there is to that.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No thanks. I had my two with no meds, because they did not medicate you back then! Now it is automatic!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Three out my four were without drugs but in the hospital Only reason the fourth wasn't is because she presented breech and I ended up with a C-section. I had much faster recoveries than my friends and no lingering problems at all.
They did have anesthsia but it was just an ether cup and all you got was a whiff. I didn't use it though...

LOL Barb, when my mom had me she said that they told her to just take a small whiff, she breathed 3 big quick gasps of it and passed out, doesn't remember having me at all, next thing she knew she woke up holding me. She said that the drs told her that when they said to push she did, even though she was out.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

The body will push of it's own accord whether you are concious or not. Once birth begins there is very little to stop it. Or at least that's how it was way back when......

Lyndonville, NY

I had all four of mine natural aka no drugs.....pain wise. However the first had to be induced to get things moving.

Stacey, it wasnt that long ago I had my 10.5 pounder...well, he is 17 now, but they had all the same modern tech. they did then. I had an ultrasound that did measurements and all that to predict his weight and position the week before....they said "ohhhh, good size, you already had a 9 lbser so this one will fit no problem." We didn't know at the time "he" was a "he" either....as he was always "shy" for the ultrasounds. I had a hard time walking for about two months after he was born because of the pelvic crack.

I remember laughing after the xray showing it was broken. DO NOT lift anything over 10 lbs...and be careful on stairs, etc. I said "I can't lift my baby?" lol Yep, that didn't work either.

Verona, ON

LOL Debbie. Just exactly what were you going to do with Shane if you couldn't lift him?

Glenview, IL

All three of my kids...Water broke, had c-sections. Julia was breech, they told us what could happen, cord wrapped around her neck, wasnt even a half a thought, do the c-section. Breenie too, again...Then when Jake came I had no option, they said after 2 you have no choice.

OMG, I sure hope they are at emergency and thats why no word! I can't believe No one knows whats going on Linda Kay, you all must be going crazy by now.

OH so cute, I am glad Rory loved his first day of school. Reminds me of when Julia started Kindergarten! We took her shopping for clothes and a little back pack the weekend before school. LOL, The Sunday afternoon, She sat outside on the stoop all dressed up wearing her backpack. When i found her I asked what she was doing. She said, well i am waiting. I said what are waiting for, baby? Still smiling, she said The School Bus! Poor Baby, never did take a school bus. I had to explain school wasn't until tomorrow and we would walk. lol school was across the street!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie I guess you had to roll him around?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I wonder why that is Judy? My mom had her tubes tied after having me, so that did that!

Lyndonville, NY

Crissy...after a c-sec, there is a great chance of the incision rupturing with further pregnancies. It weakens that area the more you have.

And as for that boy, I am still rolling him around. We just went grocery shopping and to the Amish store....what an adventure it is with him. It was cute watching the Amish girls watch him, yet try and not make eye contact....and he would just smile at them. Two giggled and ran in the back room. I picked up some of the BEST cheese, it is smoked swiss...ohhh so good! This trying to eat healthy business....I left the baked goods there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Moved us over...someone reminded me that the thead was getting long...
