Tropical Garden # 80

Red Oak, TX

Hello Everyone!!

penacolagaden, it seems as if you picked the correct spot for those plants, they have really grown!

GAgirl1066, what a treat!! Your pictures made me feel a lot better after coming in from my "not too proud of" garden. The plants that were stressed from the cold, can't take the intense heat. I am throwing a couple per day into the compost pile.
Hats off to anyone that can keep a Medinilla alive, much less, get it to bloom like that!!! I have killed my last one $79.

I had to go take a picture of this window box, it is the same cobo. in your urn picture.

Joeswife, I love your hot pink lobellia. I bet that they brighten up that area.

This is Crinum Harvey.

prita,
Don't feel too bad, we've lost several Salvia dombeyi , Lotus vine and a couple of my other Salvia's that probably would have been ok if we had had the rain earlier. None could take the heat and for a while NO rain. We've still got the heat, but at least now we are getting rain. I think alot of folks have been in this boat. We at least have a well, and I hand watered when we weren't getting the rain. So no big water big, but add's to the electric bill and can be hard on the pump.

White Daylilly ? I'm not sure...except that it is pretty.

mjsponies, I have a all white flower bed. the white Daylily is a perfect idea for replacement plants. I agree it is very pretty.
I am a much happier camper today. We got about 1/2" of rain, with strong wind that broke banana trees and toppled over pots, but gosh, I am grateful!!
I am too embarassed to say how much my water bill was. lol

I don't know why but my crinum has not bloomed at all. May be it needs scorching sun. It's in a part sun area now.

GAgirl1066: What size heater or do you use a heater once you plastic-up your deck?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I have 5 criniums that Mitch gave to me and they are in full sun and some in part shade. They have multiplied like crazy and none of them have ever bloomed. That is 5 summers now.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Crinums can be fussy. Marcelle Sheppards site has some good info under "crinum culture".

I bought some crinium from a neighbor who divided hers and I've had it 3 summers now and they haven't bloomed. I'm going to check out that website.

Scumpee,
I just use a regular heater that I bought at Lowes. I try to get the biggest one I can, doesn't really keep it warm, but keeps it above freezing. I think this year I may put up a double layer of plastic.

Prita: That is a beautiful tropical garden.
