snow queen hibiscus has quadrupled in size.. I am wondering if I can make cuttings from it when I have to bring it in?
Tropical Garden # 80
I had to cut back my hibs big time last year and I stuck all the little sticks in potting soil and this year I was giving them away I had so many. So far the sticks I kept have all bloomed.
Hello Everyone!!
LiliMerci, thanks, I will have lots of the Castor bean seeds come fall, if you are interested.
Joeswife, I do love the blue plumbago, I always have very good luck with them. The white that I over wintered died already. The Red ones are healthy but no blooms. Like LouC said, the hibiscus are easy to start from cuttings. I have trimmed mine into a standard that is much easier to handle.
It is time for a new thread. Anyone interested in starting another?
Thank You ! I had to make a mad dash for the camera when I saw him there.
They ( the BF's) have been all over the Hoya's, so have the hummer's.
prita, wow, I had to go look that one up ! I never knew ginger's came in the "little guys"
Debra, ...and a Pink Lobelia, ummmm, well you know what this leads too ! oh dear.
That's really beautiful, GA. Those Vanda's are to die for.

Mine blooms like crazy but wilt's every day when the hot sun get's on it.
Wish I could get my Vanda to bloom !
Very similiar, maybe the same thing but a different version. I got those seeds at the Athens trial garden, so very well a new plant.
Wow, yes, my manihot is at least 4-5 in. too......whoo hoo, does it set seed like the manihot?
So far manihot has been very pest resistant...so it get's to stay....
love your weeping blue ginger. I have a blue ginger but the deer ate it down to the nubs so no flower yet. may be next year....
mjs,
So far this one has not set any seed, but maybe it will. I will save them if it does.
Lili,
The weeping grows like crazy for me, and the regular blue ginger struggles.
Thanks for the name of the "manihot". I have had it in my garden for several years and one seed pod is enough for a neighborhood. The flower is almost identical to okra...which I always have too.
I just called it the "hardy hibiscus". Freezes to the ground every year and comes back bigger than ever.
really? That explains the slow growth. It's soooo slow. I bought it unroot so I thought it was because it's my first year.
Mine gets about 3-4 feet maximum but year after year, it bushes more. It is 106 right now and the leaves of everything are crisp. Even the bananas and EE's. Water bill was $225.00 but it doesn't counteract over 20 days above 100. This is worse than the snow storm. When the leaves of an okra plant scrisp, it is hot. Everything is either dead or wishing it were. Discouraging.
Lou,
I know what you mean, my water bill was 186.00 and power was 682.00. Yeow! But we too have had I think a whole month of above 100 w/ heat index. It has cooled off some, but not much. I do catch rain water and that helps some. Could you do that? I have a little 'sump" pump that attaches to a hose and I just plug it in and go to watering. I have 3- 55 gal. containers.
