Prita,
Is that the Rex Begonia Vine Cissus Discolor ? It's another on my list of wants. How tall does it go for you ?

Metro

I have not posted in a long time but always enjoy seeing the great plant photos.
Even with your great photos, it is nothing like the real visit to Rita's gardens.
The Master Gardener group have a Demo Garden project. I am chair of the sub-tropical area. These are some of the EEs that we planted this spring.

mjsponies, that vine is a Cissus Discolor. It is in a hanging basket, trailing over 9 ft. to the ground. I hope it will take root so I can get a few starts for friends.

Metrosideros, after viewing Aroids blooms from you and Rachel, I have developed an appreciation for them.
Great pictures!! thanks

Dde Tex, it is good to see you!! Thanks for the nice compliment, but most everything that is not under a shade cloth in my yard, is burnt to a crisp.
You must have some very good soil there, those Colocasias are very big and healty. Good luck with your new project!!

Great pictures everyone from the last thread and this one as well.

Dave, thanks for sharing a picture of a Dieffenbachia inflorescence and Rita that is a very nice P. gigantea var.

Rita, is your beautiful rex begonia vine hardy for you?

Red Oak, TX

RachelLF, thanks, I will have to go back through the last thread. I must have missed something, it has 4,113 views.
I forgot to mention that all of the A. Stingray bulbs made it, but the huge beautiful A. Batwing that you sent me is in ICU right now, suffering from spidermites. Hopefully it will make make a full recovery, like this Alocasia Watsonii from TT, showing a good healthy leaf.

ardesia, The Rex Begonia is not supposed to be hardy in my zone and I am scared of risking it.

Here is another one, shared by Rachel. It seems to be getting a little too much sunshine.

I'm having a little spaz here............
on ebay..........Rangoon Creeper, Cissus discolor, CISSUS AMAZONICA, Variegated Abutilon 'Souvenir de Bonn', Varigated Vanilla Planifolia ( Orchid Vine)...........I need to win the lottery...........

Mjsponies, you crack me up but I have to say I love ebay!

Rita, it seems that maybe this year is an "extra" bad year for spider mites everywhere. While in North Carolina the other day I stopped at a greenhouse only to view all of their Alocasia/Colocasia plants were covered with them so needless to say I sure did not buy anything. The last two purchases I made from ebay came loaded as well. One is a stunning Cercestis Mirabilis which I am watching very closely.

Beautiful new healthy leaf on that Alocasia from T.T. and I have to show a new leaf on one that he sent me as well. I am still not quite convinced that it's a Mac. X Longiloba though...what do you think?

Mjsponies, I hope that you remembered to buy your lottery tickets!!

RachelLF, I totally agree with getting unwanted pests with your e-bay purchases, I have snails for the first time ever in my tropical garden. I am fighting back and hope to get rid of all my pests by fall. Hopefully, next year will be a much better growing season, it has been good the past several years. This year will make me appreciate all the good growing seasons in years to come.
TT purchased the origanal Mac. X Longiloba from e-bay, and that was the name given. I guess we will have to go by that name until other information becomes avaliable.

Hi Prita!

Your noid looks like Aphelandra squarrosa. Need to see flowers to be sure.

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Well, I'm definite on the Rangoon Creeper, I can't find a better price for them anywhere. Still hemming/hawing about the other's. The Cissus discolor has been I've wanted for awhile, they discovered the other Cissus, and well all the other's too LOL...hey ! I have 11 acres ! I can always find room, except in winter now that presents a challenge sometimes.
And then there's the horses I'd like to buy......I sooooooooooooooo want a Friesian ! Actually found a Friesian/Andalusian Cross....but this story is a bit OT. Plants and Animal's are definitely hard on the bank account !

Prita/Rachel What Hibiscus is that, love the foliage !

I have a no id Ginger in the ground, ton's of growth/foliage no blooms, been there about 2 years. Do they need special fertilizer?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Great pictures, Everyone!!!!! Beautiful!

I posted new pictures on my Garden Diary tabbed Summer 2010. Please come by for a visit!

Metrosideros, thanks!! I have never taken a picture of the flowers. They were small and insignificent but I did check my notes and have it listed as Zebra Plant (Sanchezia nobilis var. glaucophylla)

Thumbnail by prita

mjsponies, if it was not for my bug infestation, I could send you cuttings of the plants that I have. The Hibiscus is a variegated sea hibiscus, and it very easy to start from cuttings. I could strip the leaves off, wash it in insectiscide, then mail it if you would like to take a chance.

You might have to take a picture of your ginger plant and try to ID it on the ginger forum. There are a few plants that only bloom on second year growth. Lots of ginger expets to help you there. I have a ginger (Hedychium Longicornutum) going on 4 years without a single bloom.

Texasgal77, A real Tropical Paradise in your backyard. I love all the Palms that you have growing there!!
I am glad to see everything doing so well after the bad winter we had.
Thank for sharing your entertaining pictures.

noid, a great buy from Lowe's $1

Thumbnail by prita
Keaau, HI

Hi Prita,

If the plant is a Sanchezia it will have red flowering bracts with yellow flowers.
If it is Aphelandra it will have yellow flowering bracts with yellow flowers.

Thanks Rita and what a great buy for a dollar.

mjsponies, I can send you cutting for both Cissus plants as well. Just let me know. I have to add that I am a equine enthusiast/owner myself. Arabian is my breed of choice though.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks! The big ones in the ground are Mexican Fan Palms orig from Lowe's for 5.98 several years ago. The ones in pots around the patio are Majesty Palms, again, Lowes this year for $9.98 ea.

The ferns were only $3.oo each. They were my Mother's Day gift from daughter and her family!

I love your $1 bargain! I'll have to go over to ours and see what they have marked down! I love their Dollar deals!

We Rita i place blowlslf beet and and that seems to job it has kept them away from mine.

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Prita,
thank you for the offer, but I really just wanted to know what it was....I have a love/hate relationship with Hibiscus and their relatives ! Variegated foliage is a plus with me tho !
I'll get a pick of the ginger's. One is I'm pretty sure a "Pinecone" ginger? It lives in a pot, and has bloomed the other is in the ground going on two years. got it at a local plant swap, but it was in a "free for all pile" and just said Ginger....

Rachel, you I will d-mail you......don't want to "muck up" the thread ............

Hey Lowe's half off rack can be a great place to find "stuff"..........two Hoya's got there recently
Hoya curtisii and Hoya lacunosa
first pic is hoya curtisii
