Tropical Garden # 80
I enjoy this forum the most. Everyone here is so willing to share what information they have concerning plants and etc. in order to help each other grow and learn.
Rita, your noid Philodendron looks alot like what is called/sold as Burle Marx. I am yet to find the name being accepted though. By searching tropicos, I did find this name as being accepted. In all reality I purchased a plant last year in Florida "tagged" Burle Marx. Thanks for making me do my homework;-)
Anyone else is more than welcome to chime in...

Gosh you guys and gals, I got lost somewhere, must have been in my vines. I Love the planters, good job!
My old blue spreader out back still holds the prenniels that come back every year of asters and monardas. I have to move it tho, I keep bumping the wagon into it on the way out to the compost pile. I planted this little seed over the winter,
and set it out his spring still in its little grow pot, sank it into the ground, and then planted the jewell weed seedling that grew from seed on my window sill, and then planted the small red banana next to it. Well... that isn't working.. The banana can't see the sun for the jewel weed which is now about two foot tall and two foot around, and the little innocent vine seed is eating my whole patio up. sheese! I can't remember its name even.. but this weekend is tear down time.
My cestrums and jasmines are over run by this vine. If it would bloom it would be worth it, but it just runs..
Hi James! Your plants are looking really good!!!

It rained for a whole day over the weekend finally.. now everything is in jungle mode.. Rita remeber that rangoon creeper? It is clear up the poles in the south corner barrell.. and the sticks ( red flowering bush) took and I had to mive them from the fence, since the vines were eating them. I lost the sea hibiscus, some kind of bug got in and ate the new roots off.. * sniff*
I use sluggo, but I love to get as many snails as I can, dump them on the patio and crunch them with my garden clogs.
Hubby yipes at me on weekends, cuz I stay out with a flashlight and pick them off the leaves of my brugs.
Good Morning All.
Joeswife, It looks like a croton. That's the best I can do.
You mentioned that this weekend is 'breakdown time'. Does that mean that you are going to start dragging all the babies back in the house? YIKES!! They just got outside, for Mercy's sake. You will make them dizzy.
Hap
Joeswife, Happy to hear from you (smile) and to hear that you got rain, it is like a desert here, no rain for months.
I would like your RC to bloom before you have to take it inside for the winter. I am hoping we have a very long sweet Fall to make up for my miserable, dry summer.
I will try to root a nice size sea hibiscus for you to try again.
Happy is correct that is a Croton 'Revolutions' Great buy!!
thank you
Dirtygirl........I just gotta know...........How on Earth do you keep those fingernails ? !!!!!!!
oooooo, prita LOVE that varg plumeria (right?). That is beautiful!! What is the plant behind it, with yellow bloom. I like it, does it root from cuttings?
Rita, here is the stick that took, I moved it from the fence. I know it is not hardy, so it is ready to come in...
Hap, I thought I was not going to have a Garden in the Basement this year, but all this talk of football, and the promise from my husband and son to help me bring in, has me all hopeful and excited. I still can not lift 40 lb bags of anything , tho, so I feel really helpless. Knowing that I save annuals, and after taking inventory, I figure if I move something in everyday starting September 7th, Then we won't go thru shock and leaf loss. Last year the start day was September 15th. I try to move in when the temps are the same inside as they are outside at night. I just need some more shelfs LOL
I recently had my nails trimmed down to a 1/2 inch.... but to keep them (semi dirt free) ~LOL~ I claw a piece of bar soap...I wear rubber gloves in the garden, and wear reg. garden gloves over that. The soap keeps the dirt from building up under the nail...and if dirt does sneak in...the soap is already there...turn on the hose...grap nail brush....scrub...the moisture inside my rubber gloves help keep my hands smooth!
Love the red spider lily. Mine are not up yet...
Hello All!!
GAgirl1066, thanks, The plant with the yellow flowers is a Cassa alata-Candlesick tree. That plant in the picture was over wintered in the GH.
I have never tried to root them from cuttings but have grown them from seeds, they do produce a lot of seeds. They are fast growers.
In some countries in Central America it is used for medicinal purposes.

Joeswife, your little stick is a red firespike plant, they will bloom in the fall and winter.
I have a few of your 4 o' clocks blooming as well but I can never catch then in their glory. There is a pretty salmon color that is my favorite.
I like your pink collection for Patty. I hope that all is well with her. I have not heard from her in quite a while.

LiliMerci, I have not seen my Belladonna lilies or my naked ladies, I hope that they make their appearance soon.
Dirtygirl71, I wish that I had that advice when I as working and needed to have nice nails.
That is a very beautiful plumeria, those flowers seem to be about four or five inches, estimating, from the size of your hand.
Hibiscus Musk mallow
