Ouch, that sounds painful! Keep us posted.
۞ Sweet Interruptions ۞197
Hi Karen! How's your quest to stick to only good eats coming along?
With the heat we've been having, don't reach for ice-cream thinking it might cool you.. on the contrary.. loaded with sugar!
Reach for that sorbet.
Anything to do with nerves, will always mean pain. Sometimes pain killers don't even help. Poor Doug.
LK, hope you have a good night's sleep.
Good night everyone.
You too Jaye, good night all! Sleep tight!
Morning everyone. Time to wake up and water your plants, before it gets too hot!
Hope you all have a great day!
Did that for an hour this morning, LK.
Hate to get up so early when I have the mornings off now. Oh well, at least the plants are prepared for the 3 digit temps.
Cut some blocks yesterday and when I put the components together, I didn't like how they turned out. Back to the drawing table.
I'm curious, since it's so hot outside, what do you all do for lunch?
Sandwiches....snacks or still cook something on the stove?
Have a good day everyone.
No cooking here for lunch, it is usuallly a sandwhich, ham and cheese, blt, peanut butter.... If the kids want soemthing heated, like ravioli, it gets nuked!
You are so right about the pain. The doc gave Doug some pain meds but they do NOT help at all. The pain meds he was given when he was in KY were strong and helped, but the doc here does not want to give them to him because they are addictive. DUH, he will always be on pain meds for rest of his life.
That sucks Cindy. Speaking of Chiropractors I think it's about time I go back and get rung out, I'm feeling a tad stiff. Wonder if Acupuncture would help... hhmmmmm
Has he tried lyrica, that is supposed to be for nerve pain?
LK, He takes about 5 or 6 different kinds of pills so I have no clue what he takes.
Are any of you having problems with Black Widows?? We have them bad. I killed on this morning right here in my craft room. Can't believe it cuz I'm always in here. The other day when Taylor and I were outside making stepping stones there was one on the underside of the table that I use. Had it not been for accidently sticking my hand in the web i would not have found her. The was a piece in our local paper about how bad they are this year.
Cindy get the Raid out and spray. In Modesto we always had a hard time with Widows. At least the CA ones are big, the ones here are small.
We always have them outside, but never in the house! KNOCKING on wood! They are usually in the wood or rock piles, empty containers...
You stiff Crissy? May be your office chair. You know you're much taller than the average woman, so you need an ergonomic chair to suit your height.
Ain't that amazing Cindy? Some docs never want to give us what we truly need for fear of addiction. But if the docs know the patients well enough, they can dispense without fear right?
I have imsomnia bad. Told the doctor about it for years, and what does he suggest? A sleep disorder test!! Wouldn't prescribe any sleep aid meds.
LK, Kel called and he feels like meatloaf which is offered every Wednesday at a local restaurant.
I don't care for meatloaf with ketchup, which he prefers. But I'll have a BLT.. just love bacon!!
Tastes so good but so bad for us!
Dial up sucks!!! You all posted way before I can post my last reply!! LOl!!
I'm taking Lyrica for my damaged nerves, they help....sometime... :(
Cindy..when we see a black widow in the garden... we get our spray!
mom got this bug sray from the $ Tree, it is awesome. Kills instantly
Ok gotta go to Curves now then to babysit TTYL ^_^
Jaye I have bone spurs just a hair above my tailbone so I always have problems because of that. I'm 5'9"
Ok, so I was sitting at the computer last night playing a game that was timed, I was about done and about out of time so was really focused, I felt something tickle the top of my left foot. Thought that a bug was climbing on it and ignored it but thought that I've got to get that off of my foot, we always have some visitor in the house. The tickle stopped so I thought that whatever it was is on the carpet again, no biggie for the moment. Getting closer to running out of time than finishing the game, I then felt something that felt like Tiga's toes on my foot, but in a much smaller way. I beat the clock and looked down ready to swat whatever was on my foot, it was a big fat Daddy Long Legs!!! I'm glad I look before I swat!
Well Crissy, I would have swatted that!! Friendly spider or not!
Can't stand them!!
When we lived in Fresno I would go out at night with a flashlight and the flat 1/2 of the pooper scooper and squish the Black Widows. They were mush easier to find at night and slower when the flashlight hit them. I killed a female that had a body the size of a quarter almost-I figured she was full of eggs-YUCK. I didn't freak out so much if they didn't have the red on them since the males are all black and not poisonous. I would freak out more over a brown recluse than a black widow. The brown recluse is very small so it is hard to see the violin on it's back and it's venom eats away at your tissue. And they usually get you in your sleep, so by the time you wake up the damage has already begun and you don't realize it at first. The pics I have seen of that damage would make most of you sick.....
Hi everyone..finally back from my visit to Okla and Tx..didn't get online at all while I was gone, so was very sad this morning to see that baby Lilli went to Heaven. It's so hard to understand the "whys" of life sometimes. LK, I am so very sorry!
Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers..everyone has a trial of some kind to get through, don't they?
I had a great time visiting with all my friends and my sister..they want me to move back to Oklahoma City :) But I know that's not where my life is anymore, so now it's time for me to give that some serious thought! Saw a job in the paper last night for an AR/AP clerk..would be $5 an hour more than what I make now! So I'm going to apply after I get off work here.
OH.. I got to have lunch with my DG friend Peg (Merpeg) while I was in OKC..caught up on all the things that have happened to us in the last year. Life goes on..I keep wondering what the next year will bring for me. Guess I'll find out eventually :)
Better get busy and get my work caught up.. take care everyone..you're all very special to me!
Chris sounds like you had a good time and got to do a lot of reminiscing with some good friends and your sister. Funny how life takes us in different directions and we don't realize it until later. Maybe you'll get that job, good luck!
Thanks Chris, glad your back home. Good luck on the job application!
Any of you need some of this heat? 110 and still soaring.
Wilting here. Just got through a leisurely lunch and when we got home, the plants are already in their defensive mode. Brugmansia leaves drooping and curling to protect themselves.
My cats that live outside are all in Kel's workshop!! They know where it's cool.
Chris, I hope you get that job.
It is so nice to go back to those that knew you and just reminisce or keep up with the latest.
But you are now adjusting well to your present surroundings and wisely chose to close that chapter in your life.
Like I'll tell my family overseas... I'll visit but won't 'return'.
We love you too!
Alright.. don't fuss... just want my caring sistahs to know that I tripped over a hose when I tried to get in the truck.
Nothing serious.. landed on my knees and my brains are ok. Didn't rattle much there!!
I don't know what's wrong with me. Since I moved here it's always one accident or illness after another. Seems like NC doesn't like me!!!
Ok.. Advils calling me.

Jaye, why don't you start using a cane to walk with, that will help balance you a bit. But then you could call and make a Dr.'s appointment and go get checked out too???
Please take care. We do worry about you.
That's it LK!!! I didn't use the cane today!
Will just have to get two.. one by the front door. Been using it to ward off the cats!!
113 now :(
Jaye you're having the weather we've been having here since the end of May, all but 9 days I think has had a heat index at or over 105. About time someone decided to jump in my ship, it was getting kinda lonely over here! Unfortunately, I have the wrong ship...
You better get your cane before you jump in though, don't want you to fall! Speaking of falling, has anyone else besides me have broken their wrists and elbows 5 different times, dislocated an elbow, and break some toes once?
We can pool our resources together and get you a walker if you need one!
Thanks LK.. you're a sweetheart. Nope.. all I need is another Wally World cane!!
A motorized walker will be nice... LOLOL!
Crissy, besides breaking my leg, I've sprained my wrists and ankles numerous times the last 5 years!! Thank God all at different times.
Nope, not going to compete with you. You won the trophy for broken toes.
Hey Ya'll! Chris, that job sounds great! Hope you get it if that is what you are wanting....Jaye I have a "Rascal" in storage here that was my Mom's when she lived here, want to borrow it for awhile? haha, I threaten to use it all the time! Do any of ya'll remember the episode of Seinfeld where George pretended to be handicapped so he could have a great bathroom at work and he was chased down the street by a a battalion of old people on scooters shaking their fists at him? Great TV laughs!
Well girls, it is hotter 'n fish grease here!!!!!.......(as in the oil that you would fry fish in for those of you unfamiliar with Southern terms, haha!) My yard is dead and doomed.... I'm going to make Jerry go out with me this weekend and cut down all the cannas (I have huge beds of 15 ft tall ones) rake and clean up...No rain in site, 105 a day still the norm.....I have good news! After being layed off since January Jerry got called back to his old oil field job~ he starts work Tues....he works the night shift driving a tanker truck locally for them. What relief it will be to finally have a little more income in the house other than unemployment! Praise God!
I got the EZ Clone machine I was dreaming of, and am now setting it up and getting cuttings organized. I can't wait until I have a great collection of Tropical Hibiscus! I have officially given up on Brugs, they are just too much of a Diva plant for me, in my area......
Crissy, spiders at my house get whacked no matter what they are - ewwwww, iz afwaid of em all!
Jaye, I'm doing a little better on the eating...trying to. Haven't made anymore home made sweets which has really helped. One day at a time, eh?
Surely you jest, Karen!!!
Slowly graduating from a cane. to a walker.. and now..
Thanks for offering your loan of the Rascal!!! If need be, I can use FIL's brand new motorized wheelchair which also has a lift that will help get my behind off!! Poor FIL bought it and can't use it as his motor skills are still iffy.
You're right about the divas!! But this scorching heat is also affecting the ones that are supposed to be drought tolerant :O(
Besides the brugs.. (and I have to water twice today) I'm now having to worry about the hydechiums that are more heat tolerant than the cannas.. if this heat continues throughout the week.
But supposedly, it's supposed to be for another day.. and back to the 90's.
Still Karen, you'll catch me early in the morning and deep watering and in the evening run the sprinklers!!!
Ahh.... you can sell those cuttings online or here on DG. The original plants are expensive especially the Dupont Cajun series.
You must be relieved that DH is returning to work. If they put a moratarium on off shore drilling, I know those states that depend on that will see a spike in welfare.
Good for you!! You're not being tempted in your home!! I haven't bake in ages as I'm diabetic. But Kel's still a sugar freak and he gets his fixes from the bakery store.. and Cookie
Time for me to say goodnight since Kel wants to reconnect with his buddies on FB.
You can't believe how men can gab....
Tante-I think that now you are off those meds and should hopefully loose some lbs that will help with your falls and such.
Karen-that is my fave Seinfeld episode and I LOVE Seinfeld!! We watch the reruns all the time too;)
Crissy-I have broken my wrist and have snapped ligaments and tendons in both my ankles multiple times, but that is about it. That started in HS and has continued through the years. I have to be very careful in heels and stepping off curbs etc. Every time it happens I am laid up for 1-2 weeks....
Chris-sounds like you had fun and will keep my fingers crossed on the job.
I got a package form LK yesterday and will take pics in a little bit after I wake up a smidge more. It had the crib quilt, some water toys, a stuffed dragon and a couple outfits in it:) DH really liked the blanket and I said it was perfect!!!
Good morning and it's already 98* outside!
Yikes.. another day for deep watering and staying indoors if possible.
Sistahs. Have anyone watched the "Work of Art: The next great artist" finals last night?
It's a competition for artists of all mediums put out by Bravo.
So happen one of the works created by the only female finalists, a child's head, which the judges SWOONED over, is eeringly familiar to a great sculptor, Medardo Rosso..."Bambino Malato" piece.
I was upset that the judges who are art critics and gallery owners are so lacking in their art knowledge...
Oh well.. as long as the right finalist won!
Coffee is ready!!! Do you smell the bacon?? That's what you're getting for breakfast. Bacon and scrambled eggs!
Except for bruddah Tubby there.. we got to keep him healthy!!
Tubby, you're having a bowl of oatmeal and fresh blueberries!!
Afternoon Sistahs!! My bod is telling me it is tired--let me repeat that T I R E D!!!!! Oldest GD and I had an incredible day on Wednesday, just running long over due errands and lunch together. Sometimes I forget she is only 7 1/2 as she can carry on such "deep" conversations--funny range of topics
Yesterday I went to Pensacola with son and his family to see the Blue Angels. My day started at 4 am and ended at midnight last night--oh these old bones are telling me I can't do that day after day anymore. LOL This was the first time I had seen the Blue Angels and what a treat!!!! The part that really got to me was at the end when they landed and came by in review. Before this happened, members of the security staff ask all the children ages 12 and under to come out to the edge of the runway; they were given American flags to wave. After they were all organized, the planes (5) came slowly by the line--talk about goosebumps!!! The pilots came inside the museum later to sign autographs and picture taking sessions, and yes, Grandma's batteries went dead. I was furious but inspite of it all, it was a great experience watching them interact with the kids present. The youngest managed to "worm" herself up and get the autograph of one of the female members.
Today is rest and finish up some projects trying to get ready to go to my Moms.
Jaye--I am going to pretend I didn't read about your fall. Please be careful.
Chris, good luck on the job app.
Marion, so glad you had a great time, and those blue angels are a sight to see. Your batteries probably did not like the heat, they seem to drain quickly in the heat or cold.
Oh Maid M.. you are so lucky!! Each time the Blue Angels put on a show in Lafayette, La., I missed it.
They don't come to this side of the country :(
Rest up lady.. and stay out of the heat.
Cookie just called me and Sis Kathy and Michael made it there! They are already seriously enjoying themselves...Michael's frying a turkey.. how dare he does that without us!!!
Jaye, you have missed a real treat. I am somewhat embarrassed to say that Pensacola is their home and I had never ever made it a point to go to a show. Thank goodness there was a wonderful breeze yesterday and it didn't get in the high temps. It was definitely warm enough but with the breeze it wasn't bad--still used sunscreen and tried to wear my hat but girls kept needing it. LOL
It is only in the upper 80s today with off and on showers--the kind that will do some good rather than wash. Thank goodness as I am almost afraid to see the water bill next month. Oh well, plants need their water.
I can not believer Michael is frying a turkey and none of us are there to eat it. Hummm, maybe my sister will fry one while I am down next week.
Back to getting some more odd chores down today.
hey ladies
i m hoping to see Kathy and Cookie tomorrow. i was hoping today but i was tired i didn't want to drive . I came home and sleeped for 4 hrs ! i was just to exhausted. :(
hopefully tomorrow
but we have a vet at 11 am
i need to pick up my fair exhibits and the kids exhibits at fair tomorrow after 4 pm soooo ? we shall see.
i m just so tired ?
Morning sistahs.. and bruddah Tubby.
Maid M., of course you have to sacrifice your needs for you DGDs. I'm visualizing sharp clear blue eyes begging you for your hat!!! Now how could you resist that! Lol!
Sue, if they still have left over fried turkey.. eat some for us! If you've been in the heat.. you'll get tired easily too.
But then, your activities are not one considered 'normal'. You stay busy than most of us!
Ah yes..... DHs can tire you out too!!
So, you'll be able to rest more now? Ooops.. there's Lucy :(
Stacey, how have you been feeling lately? Eating well?
There's been a spate of tempers flaring lately in this house. Must be the heat!!
Then the allergy attacks are so severe unless I remember to take Zyrtec early in the day.
Finished 4 blocks yesterday. Gonna try to do more today.
But first.. got to water the plants. Expecting the high 90s again.
Have a good Friday everyone!
ROFLOL, Jaye you called that one right! Oh well, we all survived.
Have a wonderful day everyone.
Hi everyone! I've been sick with some sort of stomach virus, 1 1/2 days of feeling horrible, I'm back at work today but am weak and a little light headed, but I lost 5 1/2 pounds! One thing good about it I guess!
I'll bbl!
Afternoon everyone!
Jaye, sorry tempers are flying, but yes it can be the heat, stress also will make things uncomfortable.
Crissy, sorry to hear you had a stomach problem. Hope it is better now! They are not fun at all!
Marion, what are you doing today?
