2010 Garden Photos: Part 28

Meredith - seems kind of early for your clematis to start yellowing. Do you water them? Roses and water are the best of friends. Roses and clematis are partners in crime. So everytime I water the roses, I water the clematis too. Everytime I feed the roses I also feed the clematis the same time and the same thing.

Here's Barbara Harrington, photo I took this morning.

Love all the echies butterflies and roses. Specially the DA old fashion looking ones. Used to have a lot of them but too much blackspot here. Still have a few that don't get so ugly looking when it gets hot and humid. If they can't fend off disease for themselves they are not here long. Bad enough they attract every nasty bug known to man here too, but must have at least a few roses.

I have watered the clems but not as often as my roses. We have had the driest summer I can remember and I've been having a hard time keeping up with watering everything enough. My lawn looks awful and a lot of my plants have lost the bottom half of their leaves. We finally had some rain today. Long overdue and it probably wasn't enough. We need a good long soaking rain so badly. Jen I'm not usually awake that late, I actually fell asleep sitting on the couch with the computer on my lap! lol I have done that before, but normally it happens much earlier in the evening! I think I had too many cups of tea last night! : )

Great pictures everyone. My newbie clems finally bloomes ,just 1 flower.

Jen I meant to say what a cool cat picture that is! I'ved never seen one of those before.
Ge, I'm glad you got a bloom, at least now you know if it's what you wanted. My Josephine only had one bloom this year. It's a long story, but I've had it for a few years and she didn't bloom at all for the previous two. I'm hoping she does really well next year. I put a bunch of composted manure down around her, hopefully that helps her out.

Yes, I suppose patience is a virtue. All good things come to those who wait. :)

Been a slacker with this thread. Some really nice recent shots! I have to catch up and post a few.

'Crown Princess Margareta' takes my breath away, as does (someone's, can't remember whose) 'Gentle Hermoine.'

Maybe I'll try roses again....I gave up years ago because they can be very fussy.

Apparently, the young folks use the term "high maintenance."

It's been a tough year for maintaining color. Everything has been early and brief. My August garden bloom looks more like garden gloom. :(

You got it. Now that it isnt light enough for photos until 8 o'clock ,I dont take many. There is nothing new besides.

Winter outside,? It must be a hardy one.I want Glads for next year.

It's never happened before Ge, we had a very mild winter for us.

Same here, everything early and shorter bloom time than usual. Good thing I deadheaded some things like monarda ,balloon flower and phlox or there wouldn't be much at all out there with any color. The long drought has not helped either. Thursday rain(less than a half inch) did help perk things up a bit but there are yellow leaves and more things that look like early sept than aug.
This is one thing hat has been blooming a good while and in full sun to boot. It is supposed to be sterile so that explains the long bloom time.

Everyone has wonderful photos, and Tex, yours are outstanding to me because they are the same things I grow. I usually put in dahlias but did not this year because I did not see any I liked. Had I known that everything would bolt in the heat, I would have put them in, because once they start blooming, they go on and one till the frost.

Can't wait to see what those double lilies will do for us next year after a season inground. We did not get the greatest results (we often don't the first year), but the high heat and drought may be very contributory. The asiatic elodie and fata morgana were spectacular this year after a meager showing last year.

The last of the lilies, a few stargazers are all that are left. They usually bloom now through the middle to end of August, but chose to bloom in the heat of June and July. And after all that spraying for lily beetles! There is no justice.

These roses are called 4th of July for obvious reasons. Luckily they are reblooming, but the cluster is opening all at once instead of a few at a time.

Our double pleasure is that the tomatoes like the heat.

Love those roses, and their name.

Heres that stinking black HH again.

My garden is looking kinda empty too, but do have a new run(what's the proper word?) of rose blooms and some daylilies are reblooming. I finally have some phlox blooming...forgot to get a pic and my new hardy hibiscus should be opening shortly.

Anyone know when tuberose are supposed to bloom? They just look like I have grass growing in these containers.
