Then the telephone rang, it was June, she was going to visit and show me her treasure..apparently she was at Kempenfest about the same time I was...heard I had company so said she'd drop in tomorrow morning..
Minutes later, Christine, another friend who owns a resort in Honey Harbour called and wanted to know if I wanted to pick a weekend to spend at her resort in August..know I'm busy on Aug. 28th weekend so will check my calendar..imagine this old gal having a calendar..lol... we decided that she would visit Wednesday night and we could decide on a date...
Then came Jeff and Julie, both tanned from the sun, looking tired, but full of stories and laughter...
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!
Had thought it would be a quiet night but things happen..Jeff and Julie just left for the city..Julie's staff have been covering for her these past 17 days so she thought it best to go check on things tomorrow..Jeff will unpack and relax..said he most missed hot showers...
Grandchildren Braedon and Caleb got home yesterday..they had 28 days of canoeing and portaging..they called to say they were excited Friday for the first time they were first to pick up their rations which were dropped by helicopter...they too are tired, but excited about going for 8 weeks next summer...they are at the cottage for the next 2 weeks so won't get to see them until end of August...lordy, bet they've grown..
mommy can rest now, kids are home safe..well, almost, Greg and his family are packing up, ready for Tobermory, scuba diving and checking out sunken ships..not sure if they'll leave tomorrow aft. or Monday morning..Ned says he's anxious to spend a week with his doggy grandma...
Thanks for the compliments on my find...was too dark and boys too tired to drill hangers for my butterfly, I'll do it in the morning..
Joyce, the vendors range anywhere from $10.00 - $15,000 for their wares..some in my league but most NOT...nice to look though isn't it..
Yawning here...tired/tired..
Night/night
Everyone just left, I came down to feed the furries and now it's off to bed. been quite a day..
Betty
Your new word is..

Hello To All;
Betty - I think with all the usual drama going on... I forgot to tell you all that DH and I were attending a Family Reunion this weekend...
We used to go to the beach but this time everyone wanted to go to the "old" family property which is in Alabama.
Betty - I'm about an hour south of Tupelo Mississippi ...birthplace of someone you are familiar with...so I've thought of you often LOL!
I''ve read all up to now but will catch up later...
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, just know we'd better start travelling together...how I wish I was with you.. always nice to go home, be with family you haven't seen for awhile..enjoy your weekend..
Tubby, now that's a bit more difficult..confusion??? going to get a coffee, think about that one and come back and post..
Sunshine out there, trying to put a package together as to what I want to do today..so far it's hanging the butterfly, finish digging the new garden, go see what materials are left at Fabricland in Midland, see if any more shrubs/plants are left at Canadian Tire, give at least 1 coat of white paint to those birdhouses I started a few weeks ago..in between now that I have 3 square embroidered, see if I can't finish the 3 Christmas Quilt blocks... if I get all that done I should be very close to bedtime..lol
LindaKay, how are you and DH...feeling better? have you been talking to 'dad' ? When will he come back to stay with you..end of summer?
Now what are you all up to today??? Know I'm always gabbing about my day and that must be boring for you all, would enjoy hearing a bit about YOU....
Lots of questions ..
Betty-I want you to adopt me. Your family is always doing such fin things that make me envious and I always want to go. I know I am a bit young, but I could be the surprise sister that you had for them late in life right??LOL
I am having the hardest time getting motivated. I have several things that need to be finished and I keep saying that I will get them done, and I don't. I just seem to be too tired all the time....I am hoping to get the rest of the squares cut for the rag quilt and get them ironed into that X pattern for the sewing...
Good Morning, Betty!
Well, I for one have been up since 5:00 and have been comptemplating what to get into myself! Think I'll go spread the last of that manure quick before it gets hot and/or I change my mind! :o)
Yesterday, 82, today, 90 expected....sigh....I liked the 82 much better!
I went to the Fish Fry at the retirement home where my folks live yesterday. It was my Mom's 90th birthday, so it was good to be together. Along with me were 3 of her closest friend, a nephew and his current squeeze (he's 76). And of course, Dad! We all had a nice time. Ate outside under the tents and they had a live blue grass band playing (not my favorite music, but hey....they didn't ask me). Lots of stuff for kids to do and entertainment. I told the people that were sitting at the opposite end of our table that it was Mom's BD and she immediately went to the band and had them sing Happy BD to her. She told me I had a big mouth..... (mom, not the lady).
I got orders for 4 bags of caramels while I was there, so that will be welcome income. I'm still trying to gather the $$ to take my granddaughters to the dinner theatre to see Cinderella. It's an annual thing and we all look forward to it so much. I started taking my oldest GD when she was 7 and she's 16 now. I let the other two join when they turned 6. No parents or boys allowed..... ^_^
Okay, need to grab a bite to eat...I've had so much coffee I need something to soak it up! Have a wonderful day all!
(Psst...good luck on that word of the day, Betty!!!!!!!)
Stacey, always wanted a daughter so why not? Of course you are tired sweetie, you are pregnant and much of your energy is gone into giving strength to that little one...you'll have to post a photo Stacey of the rag quilt material you are using..anxious to see...
Joyce, you are an early bird and as I can see just as energetic as I..only have one thing to say, thank goodness we don't all live in the same neighborhood, yikes, it would be like an ant hill, everyone scattering doing project after project...lol
Blue grass music?? now you hit my music dead on..love it, love step dancing, well dancing of any kind really, but sure do love the old time tunes...
Good for you Joyce, maybe you should go into the candy making business...I've been enjoying your goodies, not rushing to eat them all, when I'm dying for something sweet one of your goodies hit the spot..love the pathway Joyce..wow, you keep showing me photo's and I keep wanting to do same, how will I ever get to sit in the gardens and rest! Looks so inviting and cool.. Your mom is in good health? is the seniors home far from you? Good luck getting funds together for your outing with the grandchildren..know I certainly enjoy when I take the 4 boys on their yearly adventure (last year Washington D.C.)..this year as all are so involved in activities hard to get them all at same time..might have to wait until Oct. but that's a good time to travel..
Weather here today will be in mid 70's..sun and light breeze..perfect for playing outside..and Joyce, got more supplies for hypertufa..want to try a large one...you created a monster...
Got my first project done, can't finish planting that area until I head into Midland, can't go into Midland till noon because Fabricland doesn't open until then..it's mass confusion, I've a zillion things in my mind that I want to do but I have to wait and use my energy to find other projects to play with until the stores open. Confused at how some of these establishments work?? Why would stores only open 1/2 days, don't they want the business...
There Tubby, that was a little harder but I managed to add your work 'confusion' lol...fun game, enjoy playing..what do you and Shirley have planned for today...oooh forgot to ask, is it a long wekeend for you as well this weekend...just think, off tomorrow...
Came to the conclusion, no more confusion, I'm out to dig the flower bed...
Betty
More mowing to do......
All my weekeds are long.....LOL
Tubby
Morning everyone. Tubby, it is noce to see your up and cutting the grass, but please don't over do it?
Betty, we are feeling better today. Guess we just got something bad to eat?
About every 3 or 4 months I have to go see my back Dr, for a follow up, and more pills. I had back surgery 10 years ago. And since it was with workers comp, I have to follow thier rules.
Goodness, you had a full week-end for sure, and I love all your garden beauties you have! I agree, the coneflower and dragonfly look very nice where it is!
Oh Betty, you hit that dead on! That butterfly is absolutely PERFECT for that spot. You go Girl!!
Yes, M/D retirement home is close. 6 miles. Their decision to go there, and they can move up to full care if need be. They have a little one bedroom (large bdr) single family patio home for now. As long as they can keep it, that's where they want to be. Neither one of them want to give up their independence.
I have the stuff for hypertufa, and I have 3 ladies that want to come and do it. It's just been so hot, and everyone has had so much to do. Hopefully, soon we will be ready. I have been wanting to do a large one, too. I even got the boxes I want to use for the legs (thanks to the post office). So maybe if I can't get my ladies together, I'll go ahead and do the large one first. It's a thought anyway...
Betty
Your word for the day.....
(My Dogs name)
..................................Scamper....................................
Tubby
Betty thanks for sharing your day! I love festivals like that where there are vendors for everything. There's a bikers rally in Hot Springs this weekend and there are lots of vendors, but we had a heat index of 110 yesterday and plan for a little hotter today.
Friday at work was sad, my co-worker who got laid off is gone, and even though it made the whole office awkward for the day, you all know what that means...
Oh and ants got in my hummingbird feeder!!!!!! I was wondering why the hummers stopped using it, I took it down this morning and the whole inside filled up with ants, so I took it in the kitchen and using hot water got the ants out (that took awhile,) then sprayed RAID on the pole and the ground around the pole, now I'm just waiting for that to dry before I rehang the feeder, in this heat it won't take long. I hope the RAID works and doesn't keep the birds from feeding on it.
Tubby it's so nice seeing you up and doing a few things! I bet it feels wonderful! Love the word of the day, 'confused' is my middle name!
Ok peeps! Right now at 10:05am it's 85* with a real feel of 103*! Anyone want to come visit??? LOL
Crissy that is too darn hot!
Linda Kay Roger had an injury when we were first married and was on workman's, got monthly compension for the % of injury that he lost (his back as well) they wanted him to have fusing but he would allow it...it still allowed him to work but work in pain he did...pension stopped when he died.. so I understand all the hoops you have to jump through to make them happy..
Crissy, always sad to lose a co-worker..will she find employment or will she stay home with the children until E.I. runs out? No visiting you in the summer, much too hot, at least in a blizzard I get still get out and enjoy, you guys are stuck inside..wow, you could fry eggs on the pavement at that heat..
Going to do more hypertufa Joyce but will wait till fall as well..thinking if I get up early tomorrow morning I might get the big one done, not sure what I'll use for mold so have to think of something..as you can see I have a few drying out, have to find somewhere less visable to put them until spring..Certainly if a fun thing to do with friends..they'll enjoy I'm sure..
Still thinking 103..omg..
Kyle telephoned me awhile ago, told me to wait a bit before heading into Midland, apparently the main road in is blocked off for forensics team, so guess something terrible has happened...
They had been in town purchasing supplies for their trip tomorrow, asked if they could drop by and see if between all of us we can move the flower shed that I made to the very back of the yard, almost into the bush..Greg thinks it will be too heavy but said they'd drop in and we'll see...if we can, then I could finish the floor/roof and shelving inside tomorrow .. hate having unfinished projects...
Tubby, wow, your words are getting a little more difficult..did you read my post on 'confusion' and now 'scamper' hmm got to give that one some thought...
Betty, that will look wonder with all the rose of Sharon there!
Love that butterfly!
I don't know how....but I lost the dang thread! Only 140 post to catch up on....good heavens!
Love the pictures....love the gardens....love the stories!
Betty, I am falling apart. Lots going on....not going into it til I have some results and know whats definate instead of speculation.
Paul is scheduled for his eye surgery Aug. 19th as of now also. Not so sure he will miss much work.....but they will put him on Desk Detail for probably two weeks until they see how it goes. That whole no bending/lifing/chemical contact thing is worrisome with his job.
Shannon has a car now...so that gives me some relief in life and some of my "schedule and time" back.
I have a turkey in the oven, stuffing made and making summer squash cassarole....not sure which kids are coming over or not....but will have a feast for a few days this week if they don't show.
More later.....need to do some basting and resting. lol
Debbie
HI and good day!
Betty, OMG just love the butterfly! Wow, you are making serious progress, i like the little deck alot.
Yikes, sorry you were so chilled yesterday. But glad you had a grand time at the fest.
Bev, WOW! Your paintings are fantastic!!! I must agree in hoping you'll start again. My goodness, the Camping painting you did for Scotty is just fabulous.
Hi Debbie, OH yeah about Shannon's getting a car. Amazing how great those extra wheels are. OMG, I'm coming over for dinner!
Will keep Paul in thoughts and prayers, eye surgery goes well.
Tubby, love the name Scamper, in fact that what I've named our chipmunk! How's Shirley, tell her hi.
Well, I have finally finished power washing the deck, lol...got quite good dancing with the wand! Told Liz, Was swan dancing across the deck...decided to do the Bridge and the front walkway.
Last two nights we were able to have a nice fire. Julia had an impromtu gathering with some friends from work. First time ever. Nice bunch of young people.
Today going for a bike ride...
Hope you enjoy the day,
Betty, never get bored with all you do, I might get pooped out from all your energy though...Still think you ought to bottle it up and send off to all your buddies! LOL, we could call it Bettybomb of energy.
gotta go...See you later.
Oh Debbie, sure do hope it's nothing serious, that the results give only good news...bet you and Paul are anxious with regards to his operation..will be saying prayers..
Glad Shannon has a vehicle, now you'll have extra time to look after yourself!
Is it a special occassion for turkey dinner or were you like me, feeling fall in the air and decided on roast beef last night..you know,
Have you ever tried roasting the turkey on a b.b.q. or deep frying..deep frying is the best but you have to do dressing on the side..you've made me hungry..that's my favorite meal..let's see, if traffic wasn't so bad on a long weekend I'd be there in about 3 hrs.....
Bought a new b.b.q. about 3 years ago, cooked a couple of hamburgers to try it out and it's never been used since..should get a small turkey and b.b.q. tomorrow..
The boys all came over, much to heavy for us to use..Greg's not sure if he's going back into town later but if he does he'll pick up a trolley from work and says he'll move it that way..as they are leaving early tomorrow morning he'll not get a chance to do it tomorrow..says he'll be back by weekend and if I can wait, he'll make sure a few friends come over and help move it...so, said I'd find another project to do and wouldn't try moving it myself..
While I was waiting I took out the 8 x 10 rug in living room and threw it outside..Sailor did a boo/boo the other day and with the humidity it's all I smell..will drop in to a few stores and see if I can find another carpet or maybe just leave it without a carpet for now..she's old and having difficulties..can't blame her...with Ned coming over as well for the week am sure he'll be sniffing and doing his thing if I put a new carpet in..best I have more patience and leave things as they are..
Guess now that they've been and the road closure is now open I'll head into town..next to Fabricland is a chinese restaurant, think I'll pick up din/din...
LOL...think we all energize each other Judy...speaking of swans, Jeff said yesterday morning on the lake there was a family of swans..he thought he'd get closer to take a photo, went quietly but either the mom or dad didn't like his being that close..Jeff said he paddled for his life, the swan with open wings, flapping and yapping came to battle with him..said it took him by surprise and the camera fell into water, so no pictures..lol..thanks goodness for waterproof camera's..
Speaking of camera's..took photo last night and Jeff saw my camera, said oh mom, remind me now that I have this waterproof camera to give you my other good one..oh happy days...lol
Off to Midland..
No special occassion, I figure if I bake the turkey now, can make a couple meals off of it for the week and sandwhiches.
Never have grilled the turkey, my SIL does and says she loves it.....they also have the deep fryer...but for me, that just doesn't seem healthy. lol Durn, sure taste good though.
We have had two quite chilly nights....so I understand that fall feeling Betty!
Seedtopper
Shirley is fine.....
A little HOT from hauling out the limbs & brush from the trees......

New swap everyone! Birdhouse swap...
This message was edited Aug 1, 2010 2:54 PM
LindaKay you are so encouraging me with these swaps..lol..was all caught up, how did you know I've been searching the threads looking for something else to put my mind to...
Debbie, when I had the garden party here last September, Bernie did a big turkey deep fried, you know, there was no signs of oil, seared it, and in no time it was ready...
Guess you are enjoying your meal right about now aren't you..o.k. I'll go have my tomato sandwich and left over roast beef..
ooops someones here...
TUBBY, your word for today was scamper...here goes...
Did you know that Bob Eberly created Scamper - a creative method to increase creative thinking?? and a barrel jumping horse is called a scamper...
Wasn't easy "Tubby" !!! Now I know what I learnt today..lol
Neighbor dropped in to see what I had been working on today, guess Sailor didn't recognize the voice..no sooner had he left that Danie called, wanted to know if I wanted to go to her house and do some boating and generally just taking time to relax...appreciate the invite, but think tomorrow I just want to stay home and relax...
When I got home there was a message from Diane asking me to call, most likely it was to invite me to supper but lordy the highways are busy, will be deadly tomorrow..so best I stay put..
Looked for a rug at 4 stores in town, none of which I liked..went to 2 nurseries, gosh, plants almost dead and they wanted full price..of course, the nursery in Barrie had mega sales and healthy plants/shrubs so will wait till one lunch hour and go..
Did purchase yardage / embroidery thread / warm blend batting at Fabricland..everything still 50% off..imagine as the weeks progress it will go to 75% off so will keep close tabs on the sales...
Thought I'd make another 2 or 3 bags, always use them at Christmas time so bought co-ordinating tans/black green prints..now washing the fabric, I'll set it out and who knows, here and there I can cut the pieces out and make kits, that way when I decide to make them a lot of the work will be done...
How's the turkey Debbie...now you have me hungry for turkey..when I was at the Mall I check out the Chinese Food vendor, closed on Sunday so now I'm hungry but too lazy to even warm up the roast beef/potatoes and carrots...
Betty, those are beautiful colors! Sounds like a nice sale at fabricland?
Hello To All !
We are Back ! Betty - I would LOVE to travel with you! May have to put off a few years till I get more than 2 weeks vacation! LOL! Just be patient and wait for me to pay off this house and I'll go to part time and have all the time we need LOL!
Went to the Family Reunion... this is the family I named DS after "Brock". My (Maternal)Grandma's Maiden Name. I saw the original Brock House (est. 1897?) Saw my Maternal Grandma's Parent's grave, and her father's father/mother grave...and other historical locations. Visited Waverly Plantation... Antebellum home in Westpoint MS.... supposedly the "Most visited" antebellum home in the south. (I question that?)
Plus saw (for the first time) property that I own with my Aunt and Sister.
I've read all... Try to comment... Deb... hope all is well...Judy - keep me posted...wow - you got some "Betty - type" energy ...pressure washing! .... LK, Barb, Tubby, Crissy, Stacey..... Well - I'm back now so can keep up...
Hugs,
Mary
I just got this sent in an email. She has gained 8 ounces, and is doing very well. She has a small cyst on her lungs, but a lot of preemies do. They will do a cat scan in the morning to determine what it is. Most of them will go away on thier own.. She now weighs 1 pound and 14 ounces! She finally opened her eyes.
LK! She is precious! and My Prayers for her, you and your niece !
Hugs,
Mary
Thanks Mary.
She's absolutely adorable, let's hope the cyst turns out to be nothing to worry about..will be praying...
Been outside since early morning...was evaluating where I want the shed moved to, thank goodness I did or the location wouldn't be suitable..so after about 8 wheelbarrels full of sod, guess who had bigger and better gardens, well, did need earth to level didn't I, I think it's ready for the move...no hurry for that..next weekend will do..
It's undecided what the weather will be like today.. can feel rain and yet it says only tomorrow so I'll watch what I get into outside just incase!
Greg didn't say what time they were leaving for Tobermory but know I'll get a visit before they do because I get Ned this week..they'll take Sophie though...sure wish it was the other way around...a puppy as big as me who loves to jump and run, well, just not sure I have enough energy to play with him...
Mary, by that time I'll be much older and you might have to guide me .. sounds as though your weekend was enjoyable..now this land that you co-own, was it nice..what will be done with it eventually?
Off for breakfast and decide what projects I might want to get into..
Is it a holiday today for you?
No holiday here Betty. What Holiday is it there?
Betty-I will take pics of the material today. I am making one for my cousin's baby girl she just had in March and one for Jonathan. I really like the spot for the butterfly, but not sure if I would plant a rose of sharon behind it since in a few years will need constant trimming as to not overrun the garden art. Rose of Sharon sure do get huge:) I might have went for some clematis of something there.....just my opinion of course.
Debbie-actually a fried turkey shouldn't be greasy at all. If you do it in a turkey fryer and have the correct temp, it flash fries which means the skin seals and really doesn't let much oil in. I have had roasted chickens from the grocery more greasy than the fried turkeys and chickens Chris has done in his fryer. We don't use it much though since the oil is so darn expensive.
Thanks Stacey, I will keep that in mind. I have "oil" issues anyway....due to soy allergy, and most oils are soy based. I think my BIL used peanut oil for his turkey frier. They did them for my nieces Grad party....I think 3 huge turkeys.
Our dinner turned out really nice and had help cleaning up, which was even better. Both DH & Michael took some for lunch at work today.
Going to be a muggy one from what I am hear...and feeling...already. I just started a new Nora Roberts book "Going Home" so might just have to sit at the picnic table under umbrella.....or if too hot...turn on the AC and plunk my backside on the recliner...and read. lol
My rose of Sharon are HUGE! Started off so petite and pretty, and now one is a litteral tree. I did find a new color, I have purple with pink in the middle...and a white with a maroon in the middle. Went over to my oldest daughters....and she has this really pretty almost red color....so am on the hunt for a sprout I can swipe from her. Going over there tonight to help her with a few things....will seeif I can get a picture.
Waving hello to Tubby & Scotty.....something tells me if you two ever got together....we women would be in BIG trouble! haha Enjoy your days....sending hugs your way. And Prayers for Bev & Shirley to deal with each of you!
Debbie
Today is Simcoe Day - Civic Holiday, not sure every province has it, but I get to enjoy it..
Debbie/Stacey...for some reason my rose of sharon's never grow very big so I'll keep it there and hope it does well even though I may have to trim..going in search of other shrubs this week on my lunch hour..if I see something, who knows maybe I'll dig it up and replace it...
Greg and family are now on their way for a week of fun..kids were excited, they love scuba diving..
Noah came first, gave Ned a good walk before coming to grandma's
