Love your kitty in the middle of the garden...so sweet.
Betty, do you pull the dead off your phlox when they start to fade? If you do, you get more blooms on the same one. I used to deadhead them until Bertie showed me to do that. Now they just keep on blooming!
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!
Betty - that triple rose is BE-A-U-tiful!!
No, never deadheaded, can you tell me what to do...gardens are full of phlox, guess I have about 12 different colors..understand there are 'orance' so when I'm in Kempenfest this weekend there are a few specialty garden centers I'll check? You know, I had to go back and look at the photo's, hadn't realized Missy was posing for a photo..lol
Didn't get the storm they said we'd get! I put all the containers out so they could drink on Mother Nature, those on the decks and gazebo, but the rain passed us by..it's sunshine already and I looked at the upcoming forecast and happy days, this long weekend will have no rain, although the farmers need it badly I'm happy.. wanted to plant all the perrenials I bought yesterday in the garden I'm making near the back bedroom deck but then Kyle came to visit grandma and that took priority..tonight is another night right? I've saved my variegated phlox that I bought at the Canada Day celebrations for that particular area...won't get any flowers this year but they'll be ready and accustomed to their garden bed and watch out come spring.
Paul paid us yesterday incase some wanted to get grocery shopping done before the masses arrive tonight and tomorrow so now it seems as though today should be Friday, NOT..so it will be a long day..
Came up with an idea last night concerning the telephones here..wonder if he'd go for 3 days a week in Penetang and a pager for evenings and weekends, that way I would have more days to travel the roads? another posibility..
ooops, forgot to say I'll be waiting for the new word of the day Tubby, perhaps I'll find it on my screen when I get to work..
Hi Betty
The new word is..
.........................Arobics.................................
Tubby
It's a good thing I'm open-minded and have a good sense of humor! Both of my grandparents on my Dad's side were born in Newfoundland!!!
There was a time I'd just drop this thread after telling you all off but not anymore. Especially here. I realize it's all in good fun. But I won't hesitate to find an Alberta joke or an Ontario one now if I can. I loved them so much.....
Betty, I'm so sorry about Mike. I'll be on my knees for him Tuesday morning praying as hard as I can for these growths to be benign. I'll get another card off today as well...Does Ann come to your house every Tues?
Judy - glad Cookie found your ring. You must get it resized or a ring guard for it....
Off to the sewing machine and then the hearing aid Dr this afternoon. I'n not telling anyone here that I have them and I want to see the look on their face when I speak about something they didn't think I could hear!!! Too Funny.....
Yes, that is funny! You might get an "ear" full! LOL
We need rain, too. Saturday is the annual Fish Fry at my Mom and Dad's retirement home. It also happens to be her 90th birthday, so I'll go have fish and celebrate with them. ^_^ I hope it doesn't rain on Saturday, but any other time would be great! We had a few sprinkles last night, but not enough to amount to anything.
I just sat on the swing (got up at 6:00...geesh...need to stop that!) and decided where to plant the new Bald Cypress. I think the perfect place for it is where the Rose of Sharon is now. So I've already found a new home for that, too, just a matter of moving it and making the hole bigger for the cypress.
Tubby....our word for yesterday was Arobics......try again! ^_^
Joycet
Did I miss it..DUH
Well let me try another..
......................Antihistem....................(sp)
Tubby
Oh Barb, never an intent to hurt anyones feelings with these jokes, just trying to fill in the joke of the day until our Tubby feels he's up to it..lordy, I'm sure regardless what province you pick, there will be a joke for it..that will give me something to do, find an Ontario joke..lol
Too cute, you might just hear something you don't want to hear Barb, best you warn them...as for Ann, yes, we make it a Tuesday night event, she won't be at the house this Tuesday though; she's taking her laptop to Toronto with her so she will be e-mailing me on Mike's progress from time to time...
Joyce, please don't stop, it's what we all should be doing, we all work so hard in our gardens, should be sitting on a swing/chair to enjoy the beauty of it..I don't have a waterfall as lovely as yours, but the other night a friend came for the weekend and used the back bedroom, said from time to time when she'd wake up she'd think, drats it's raining, no fun tomorrow, then early morning when I said rise and shine for Collingwood travels she said what's the hurry, it's raining...NOT raining said I...it was the waterspray in the pond all along.. I moved a Rose of Sharon now 3 times, hasn't done well in any of the locations...it's now in full sunshine so we'll see what next year brings..
Oooh Tubby, hmmmm, got to think about that one for a sec... did you not see my long post about arobics???? lol
Well, Betty, I probably don't have a choice about stopping...my internal alarm clock is set!
I'll start by giving Barb something to laugh about..will give her an idea of what to expect when she visits me....lol
You Know You're an Oakie from Muskokie when:
- You only know three spices - salt, pepper and ketchup.
- You design your Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
- The mosquitoes have landing lights.
- You have more miles on your snowblower than your car.
- You have 10 favourite recipes for moose meat.
- Canadian Tire on any Saturday is busier than the toy stores at Christmas.
- You live in a house that has no front step, yet the door is one meter above the ground.
- You've taken your kids trick-or-treating in a blizzard.
- Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled in with snow.
- You think sexy lingerie is tube-socks and a flannel nightie with only 8 buttons.
- You owe more money on your snowmobile than your car.
- The local paper covers national and international headlines on 1/4 page, but requires 6 pages for sports.
- At least twice a year, the kitchen doubles as a meat processing plant.
- The most effective mosquito repellent is a shotgun.
- Your snowblower gets stuck on the roof.
- You think the start of moose season is a national holiday.
- You head south to go to your cottage.
- You frequently clean grease off your barbeque so the bears won't prowl on your deck.
- You know which leaves make good toilet paper.
- The major parish fund-raiser isn't bingo - it's sausage making.
- You find -40C a little chilly.
- The trunk of your car doubles as a deep freezer.
- You attend a formal event in your best clothes, your finest jewelry and your Sorels.
- You can play road hockey on skates.
- You know 4 seasons - Winter, Still Winter, almost Winter and Construction.
- The municipality buys a Zamboni before a bus.
- You actually get these jokes and forward them to all your Northern friends.
Don't you know it Joyce...Saturday/Sunday and holidays, although I long to sleep it I just can't..body says up and at it..lordy by noon I've got what most people people dream of getting done-done! this weekend is Kempenfest...takes lot of energy to walk miles/miles of vendor alleys carrying packages..do you know, I'm just recovering from the events of last week...lol so play all weekend, rest all week...
Am glad though that you are enjoying what you are reaping...will you be going for you appt. with the Temp. Agency? am sure it would be interesting work, never boring..
As many of you know Sailor, in spring and beginning of fall, now wait a minute it's neither spring nor fall BUT seasons are changing...pulls out all the hair on her hip...awfully sore looking..she does get advantage at the beginning of each month so it's not flees, but I wonder when laying out in the sand what type of critters might be out there bitting her...
Lydia (our local medicine lady) has made salves which help, used several other skin irritation salves, all help but she still itches...
So now, it's routine, purchage a package of weiners, a package of antihistamines in hopes that her itching will stop..she's a sly old gal..usually eats what the pill is in and spits out the pill..
Now I give her 1/4th of a weiner, no pill, 1/4 with pill, no pill, then pill....
She gets so anxious to get the piece of weiner she doesn't realize she's taking the meds...these past few day, I've noticed an improvement..less hair for the to sweep up..most likely makes her more tired but that's ok..no itching while you sleep!
If it works for humans, why not furries?
Take it from me ANTIHISTAMINES do work.
Betty it feels like Friday to me too. Looks like you have your work cut out for you with this 'word of the day'
I think there are more Southern jokes than anything, and I love them all!
LOL Never mind.... LOL LOL
Ya.........Ha Ha Ha..............
Good One...
Don't think any part of any country or nationality doesn't get a bit of kidding..
Just spoke with a friend, Beth is her name, she's been undergoing cancer treatment in Mexico off and on for about 4 years...
Been awhile since we chatted...she just got home from 5 months of treatment at the Sanoviv Clinic..she had exhausted her finances and lo and behold someone donated funds to cover her entire 5 months of treatment..cancer is no longer in one of her lungs, still needs treatment for 2nd lung, after returning home, meds were to be shipped for infection..didn't Canada Post lose it..so now she's trying to get funds to fly there and back the next day to bring this special med home, needs it to survive...
This fighting for her life has so far given her 4 years, not the healthiest of years but still years...
Nostalgia's not what it used to be!
REMEMBER WHEN:
All the girls had ugly gym slips
It took five minutes for the TV to warm up
Nearly everyone's Mum was home when the kids got home from school
Nobody owned a purebred dog
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny
Your Mother wore nylons that came in two pieces
All male teachers wore ties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels
You got your windscreen cleaned, oil checked and petrol served, without asking, all for free, every time..
It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents
They threatened to keep children back a year if they failed the school year. . . And they did!
When a Ford Zephyr was everyone's dream car...
And people went steady
No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles?
Playing cricket with no adults to help the children with the rules of the game
Bottles came from the corner shop without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger
And with all our progress, don't you wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savour the slower pace, and share it with the children of today?
When being sent to the headmasters office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited you at home
Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.
As well as summers filled with bike rides, cricket, Hula Hoops, skating and visits to the pool, eating lemonade powder or liquorice sticks.
Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, 'Yes, I remember that'?
I am sharing this with you today because it ended with a Double Dare to pass it on. To remember what a Double Dare is, read on, and remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care.
Send this on to someone who can still remember the Lone Ranger and Sgt Bilko
How Many Of These Do You Remember?
Coca Cola in bottles.
Blackjacks and bubble gums.
Home milk delivery in glass bottles with tinfoil tops
Hi-If's & 45 RPM records.
78 RPM records!
Adding Machines.
Scalextric.
Do You Remember a Time When..
Decisions were made by going 'Eeny-meeny-miney-moe'?
'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest?
Catching tadpoles could happily occupy an entire day?
It wasn't odd to have two or three 'Best Friends'?
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was 'chickenpox'?
Having a Weapon in School meant being caught with a slingshot ?
War was a card game?
Cigarette cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle?
Taking drugs meant orange - flavoured chewable aspirin?
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon?
If you can remember most or all of these, Then You Have Lived!!!!!!!
Aw yes...I remember it well....♪♫♪
That kind of tells what generation we're in..
Ok - to all and sundrie - I like to tease, and Alberta has jokes about it, too
f'instance, I was told that if I didn't get horseback riding, they may just take my Alberta passport away......
D'ya know ther are very few native born Albertans? My cousin said the first native born one she met was her daughter! (my cousin was born in Manitoba!
It was in the 80's that I heard the noxious term for Newfoundlanders - from an Albertan! because even then there were few Albertans, and more East Coast people moving here.
On another note - more people are moving out of Alberta than are moving in right now, according to the census. It seems Alberta goes "Boom" then "Bust", and those who come here with hopes of BIG $$ get them dashed very hard. My DH & I are lucky to be in steady jobs that don't rely on the BOOM $$......... he was in construction, but that went belly-up so now he's a Shipper/Receiver in a warehouse, and that's a job that will never die no matter what companies are available - someone needs that type of work done.
Thanks to our church for getting this job for him! PTL
Susan, we all hear 'go west/go west' but like you say it's for periods of time only..neighbor came back last fall, just bought a home and here is where he'll stay..
Suzanne is in the city today at meetings so did lunch on my own...went to a nursery looking for orange colored phlox, a no go, but did buy 2 Rose of Sharon about 3 - 4' high, great deal $12.50 vs. $29.99..think when I get home I'll forgo going into the house, pick up my shovel and continue working the new garden I'm doing near back deck..been buying perrenials/shrubs the last 3 weeks, none planted, wouldn't take me more than a few hours as most of it is already done....
Now's the time to be out purchasing shrubs/trees/perrenials..nurseries don't want to over winter..someone had better take my wallet away!
I rather like the west with the Mountains, etc. Winnipeg was toooooooo flat!!!!!!
I fell in love with the mountains when I was 12 and visited my sister in Vancouver (she's in Winnipeg now, btw), and again when I was 17 and went to Vancouver again. I'm definitely NOT a flatlander.
When we moved to Calgary, it was like coming "home" even though the majority of my family is in Winnipeg.
Have you been in Ontario Susan? my area has flats/hills, lakes/streams, actually a bit of everything...think Crissy liked it and found much to look at while travelling..
Hope you all didn't get upset with my comments about Newfoudland. I love you all and know it was in great fun...Although I don't think I would like to live there , Susan, I would love to drive through the Canadian Rockies as I did the USA ones. It's truly one of God's most beautiful creations.
So many wonderful places to see---
Betty your blocks came today and as always they are gorgeous.....
Didn't take your comment as anything but teasing...if we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at..lol...glad my blocks arrived, let me see, well over a week wasn't it...another package at your door shortly, lordy I'm behaving in this swap aren't I?
Drats, but not really, had plans to work in the gardens when I got home, just got a call from Darlene, she's having Danie and family over, her mom and dad while Mike's on vacation and invited me to join them so will go home, let Sailor out, think as it's Thursday Cathy will have let him out while she is cutting grass, but, just incase I'd better make a trip home so no gardening for me...
wow it's been quite the summer, seems I'm never home, that's good and that's bad right?
It's good that you have so many friends to keep you busy but bad that you have so many friends you don't have time for you!!!
Me? - I'll take the friends!!!!
I take the friends as well...funny, when Danie stayed at the house this weekend we were going through a list of my friends, friends I've had for decades (not going to 1/2 a century but think I have one of those as well) lol and you know, not one I could say aren't the best...I've the best of the best..Lord sure has blessed me...
Darlene also told me that Hwy.400 at Hwy.93 is closed due to serious accident, so guess I'll be taking the long way home to avoid that area...
Gab later..hope I don't forget my camera, I'll take a few photo's for you of Darlene's garden...
Yes, I've been in Ontario a fair bit, when I lived in Winnipeg.
Had been to London, Toronto, Hamilton, several of my relatives have cabins in the Whiteshell so have been all over the Canadian Shield (rocks crumbling under my feet from the expanding/contracting - very wierd!), been to the CNE, etc - even to Niagara Falls - got a pic of my looking at the Maid of the Mist, and in one of the yellow slickers you had to wear LOL
Drove through Northern Ontario too - saw the Northern Lights there - Beautiful!!
It's beautiful country, for sure - some very rugged, and driving through a rock that had been carved through for a road is really neat!
