Hey, where did everybody go?
Got up Monday, 6am, packed up supplies in the truck (couldn't do it night before because of a storm), drove to High Point NC, was digging by 8:45. Worked until 7pm, drove home, there after 9pm. Got up yesterday 5am, packed more supplies in truck (too tired to do it night before), drove to High Point NC, was working by 7:45. worked until job was done, 7:40pm. Something was biting at me beginning at 3pm (after I put on a bug spray), and was glad Roy's daughter and her family and friends helped me pack up the truck, as I didn't feel well by then. Drove to Raleigh-Durham airport, picked up Randall, he drove home thank goodness, because another storm came up.
Randall found 10 nasty welts on me, from right armpit to right buttocks, possibly with stingers still there (to make it feel like I was still getting stung). Warm super soupy shower seems to have taken care of that. But my hands feel like I've been washing dishes in Ajax and bleach for 20 years. And my bum hand almost won't type, and won't make a fist this morning. We processed probably 500 clumps of irises.
2010 Sistahs reunion at Cookies..the memories! #2
WOW, that is a lot of work!
Please take care of those bites!
Oh Wow...Bonita...that's a lot of work on a body that isn't 100%! Hope you're feeling some better by now. Grab the Advil. That's what I do!
What are you going to do with all those iris? I have new growth on all my iris I planted this year. I'm sure they're not called leaves, but don't know what they are called or if I do it's escaping me right now.
Is a lot of work..poor hands, you've worked them too hard!
Joyce, going to the Garden Gallery today, last time I was there they had narrow strips of pond liner..think about 15' long - not wide though and it was only $20.00...been thinking, even if I don't start the little river bed leading into a lower pond why not purchase the 15' of it and have it just in case I do get ambitious..know it's not very wide but not looking for wide...so you've got me pond and hypertufa hooked...lol
I so LOVE that! ^_^ I think your reasoning is just perfect!
I'm hoping when I get there they've just estimated and it will be wider...imagine there is a glue you can use to bond liners together? have you used any?
Betty, Firestone makes a number of pond liner adhesive products.

BTW this company is about 15 minutes from us and is where we bought our liner and filter.
I'm sure they carry it up there.
Generally you use a glued seam tape to join the sections together.
Much like splicing carpet.
For puncture repairs think repairing an old car innertube.
Same material, Same process.
Ric
Thanks Ric..my thoughts are NOT to join it to the other pond, I'll simply make a river bed and another lower pond for small falls, maybe put a little bridge at the point where the riverbed would be against the now pond ...that way the other pump wouldn't have to work as hard...when I was in Buffalo on the weekend I had checked ads before going and the had a little bridge for less than $40.00 - store said they don't carry everything, I would have had to order the bridge and the pond kit I was looking for via on-line shopping..was disappointed!
Oh that's a bummer, Betty. I've never used the glue, but I've heard of people using it.
Ric...where have you been?
We're thinking of doing the same thing w/ a smaller pond street side of our new one.
A Japanese Bridge to hide the transition.
Joyce we've been installing the mirrors we picked up at my Sister's Saturday.
Also getting the tools rounded up from the Garage and placed in the Workshop.
(Which has suddenly become VERY small....lol!)
It was funny making the drive up and I almost missed the turn to her house after so many trips to yours.
We'll be heading back up to grab some concrete rounds they gave us.
You need to drop over and see her Hosta. Nice wooded setting for them.
Great to see them finally let go of the rigid, formal style they used in Gardening in Centerville.
Cyndi saw Herb out in the Veggie Garden the other day........
They've already picked and froze corn..yesterday was supposed to be beans. I didn't get a chance to go over yesterday to help, but I did go the day before and helped with the corn.
If I knew where Cyndi lived...I'd go!
Saw a sign on a side road yesterday saying that Ontario corn would be available in 2 to 3 days...on my list of pick up on the way home for tomorrow or Friday..yummy, could live on corn from now to the end of the season...
Drats, last week I went to the Garden Gallery and they had pond liner remnants, one piece was $19. for 15' x a little more than 2' wide..want to do a riverbed going into another pond that I will dig..remnants sold out so I ask if I can purchase off the roll about 3 or 4 feet..guy says no, can only sell minimum of 10' - sure don't need that much for this part of the project...just called Midland - Norms Gallery which is a sister nursery owned by Garden Gallery here in Barrie..girl says yes, she can cut me a piece and it would be $60.00 for 3 ' wide x 15' so I'll either pick it up tonight or tomorrow night, won't play until the weekend so won't matter...
With all my gallavanting I've been missing my weekend projects..
Better throw some protein in with that corn...I know from first hand experience that you melt without it!
Sorry the remnants were gone, but glad you found a place that will sell just the piece. Know you'll have fun when you start that project!
Yippers...took out my painting book the other day, so many interesting animals to paint, perhaps if it ever rains one weekend I'll paint ME one...remember, one for someone and one for ME....
Cookie, they all look right at home! Thanks for the tour!
how wonderful!
irises were in Dr. Roy Epperson's gardens. at least one of each is going to a new memorial iris garden to him at High Point University, as he was instrumental in developing 25 new buildings there after he retired from teaching chemistry there.
Everyone that helped got to send in a list of irises they wanted. Seedlings must be returned to the hybridizer or destroyed (they were). Gifts were made by his 2 daughters to family and friends and the 15 organizations he did volunteer work with - he was a huge believer in giving back. Not only the local and national iris societies, but everything from community theatre to Hospice groups. Then I'm to take all the remaining and take them to the farmer's markets to sell for the society's benefit.
I'd be happier if the rock Betty did was at MY house-tee hee hee;) Maybe one day I will come home to a fairy or dragon one at my door;)
lol...is that a hint?
Sounds like it! LOL!
Naw-just wishful thinking on my part;)
Love where I'm at Joyce! Thank you!!
As long as the birds can't poo poo on me, I'm fine wherever I'm at!!
ROF!!!!
Well, if the birds poopoo on you, I'll wipe it off before you know it!
Good Morning all!
It's going to be 100 and 100 today. temp and humidity. getting worse all way through weekend. Is this ever going to end? it's creating tall weeds and otherwise dead plants.
Looking today for a sales tent canopy. something I can use to protect from the sun while I work in the garden.
Rained all night and more the same all day..might break the humidity, that would be good...
We got some good storms last night and now today is supposed to be hot and humid-already feels too hot to go outside!!
It hasn't rained in about 1 1/2 weeks, and that wasn't a good rain, just enough to make things damp on top.
