Victoria Harbour, ON

Ok, thrilled, did 2 containers as trials for hypertufa, still feels mighty damp but they didn't fall apart when I took them out of their mold..guess I should leave them for awhile longer so they can cure or do you think Joyce it would be ok to add soil and plant something in them and let the elements work it's wonders while they sit looking pretty?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Joyce, it was my first attempt..know a few things I'd change

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

the previous one was done inside an old basket...

Had a bit of mixture left over to put a pot inside a pot..ooops saran wrap must have dried in the mixture..that's ok..I'll know to use WD40 next time instead of saran...learning process right?

Once plants are inside these containers the little imperfections won't matter...have 3/4 of the supplies I need except pearlite to make another few .. now that I know I'm on the right track...

Joyce, do they change color as they dry?

Storm is brewing...just took this photo...

Betty, you need to let them cure, for a few weeks, before placeing plants in them. The chemicals are too fresh for plants right now, and may kill them. Nice job by the way!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Wow...fabulous picture, Betty. You did a GREAT job for anytime, not just your first!!! They don't change color much...might lighten just a bit.

LK is right. They need to cure. You need to keep misting them with water. That will make the concrete harden nicely. I have heard recently that you can cut the waiting time to plant by a lot if you can put your container in vinegar. It helps to leach the lime out of it. So if you can do that, then maybe plant in 10 days. I know it's really hard to wait.... :o(

Good Morning Glory!

iris sale week, gals - I'll come up for air late next week - love y'all!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-it would seem to me that maybe using cooking spray instead of WD40 for something you are going to plant in might be a better choice. Joyce-any insight??

Bon-OOh-an iris sale and here I am all the way in MI:(

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure Stacey, know on some of the sites they recommend wd 40???

Picking up more pearlite on my way home tonight..need to get the rest of the portland cement used up before all this humidity turns it to cement, besides, will be running the roads all weekend so it will be less tempting to take them out of their containers...lol

Joyce, do you mean submerge them into the vinegar mixture liquid? think I also read that you could leave them soak and they'd cure quicker but I just worry I'd dissolve the entire piece...

Hot and muggy here today...Friday so normally we get off at 3..that being said, my BIL (boss) has told us to leave at 1:00 the past month..don't want to count on it though..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hot hot hot!!!!

OOOOOO an iris sale. HHMMMMMMM

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

A friend posted, on FB, a challenge to do more in the next 2 hours than you did in the previous, and be more productive.
I was sleeping the previous 2 hours LOL then I deadheaded some flowers, and will now go to the church to plant spider plants at the base of a Hibiscus tree ^_^

Hope the weather forecast is wrong and we don't get 40-60% chance of rain. That would be soggy tenting if we do LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Susan maybe it will fizzle. There was a huge storm probably, oh I don't know, as a crow flies about 50 miles due north of my house, boy did we have a light show. I went to bed at 11 thinking I was going to be woke up in about an hour from then but it completely fizzled and never got down to us. You just never know until it happens.

I have work to do today! Woo Hoo!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, now don't you go and over do yourself again! We all want you to heal up.

Crissy, it is Friday, don't work too hard today.

This weather sure is different this year, all over the place, so much rain and heat!

Victoria Harbour, ON

But LindaKay, the gardens are loving every bit of it..plants that normally are 2 to 3' high are now 5 ' 6' high...can hardly see any of the garden art through it all..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

The skeeters are loving it too! They are so bad this year!

Victoria Harbour, ON

that they are...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Same down here!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

watching the blue sky, light breeze through the office window here...got a call from Paul (BIL-boss) told us to close the office at 1:00...can't get much better than that can it...

Sooo many things on my agenda this weekend, wondering just how much of it I will accomplish?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LK I hate sitting idle with nothing to do, the more the merrier!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

me, overdo? Surely you jest, LK!!!
ROFLMAO LOL

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Wish I had a job that I got a paycheck and got to go home at 1:00 on Friday....you hiring, Betty???????? ^_^

As far as the soaking goes, I don't think once it's set up that it will dissolve. Yes, that's what I heard...soak it in vinegar. I've seen the WD-40 thing, too. The way most containers are made, the WD 40 would be on the outside, not the planting side. I used Pam on the one I just made. Now it was probably my fault cause I used a glass container, but the Pam didn't release....I had to break the bowl. Lucky it was one I didn't want anymore! I used drycleaning bags on the ones I did before. They leave a mark, but it either adds to the character, or you can take a wire brush and brush those marks out. That's what I'm planning on doing with my next project. I want to make a big leaf casting, too, but I don't want to cut my alocasia leaf to do it!!!!!!!!!! :o(

I can't remember who was asking about the planter at Stacey's shower. I bought it at the Sauerkraut Festival, but I tried to take a few pictures for you.

It feels like a block of wood that has two "legs" attached. There are two plastic pots. One is permanent and the jeans are attached to it, and the other is removable for the plant. (Makes watering easier, too)

This is what the legs look like:

Victoria Harbour, ON

Adorable Stacey...he'll be the best dressed kid in town...

Packing a suitcase, girls just called and we're leaving at 6am for a roadrunning/shopping/sightseeing trip..just what I need...should really learn the song "on the road again"..

Got everything done I wanted to do, getting off early sure helped...Cathy had dropped in just before I came home and let Sailor out, did a few chores for me, actually caught her resting so when I came in I said 'I'm here to visit with you Cathy'...she laughed, she's such a dear, again this weekend I've asked her to look after the furries...anyway, she was ready to go home, offered her spaghetti supper, and we used up the supplies I had and tried a few more hypertufa planters..you created a monster out of me Joyce...

Off to pack a suitcase and have an early night..6am comes early...

Most likely won't be on until Sunday night or Monday..stay well/stay safe....

Atta girl!!!! ^_^

Stacey...darling stuff, and by the $3.00 and $2.00 price tags...you did GOOD!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Have a good trip Betty!

Stacey, those outfits are so cute! He will be dressed very nice indeed!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone-I did do good. A few of the onesies and the outfit for next summer were $1 each, the outfit with the brown corduroy pants and hat was $5 and the one with the red sweater vest was $4. Considering they would be at least $20 in the store I thought they were great prices!! I am watching some Detroit Red Wings outfits on ebay and I won a New York Giants bib and burpcloth set, so DH is happy man;) He didn't like some of the other stuff I was watching on ebay, so I deleted them off my watcher with a sad heart. He said they were "too girly" or too expensive. I also won a Red Wings onesie for $6 (these outfits are SUPER expensive new) w/ shipping. Those are DH's hockey and football teams, so he really wants Jonathan to have stuff that is from both teams. I am just too darn cheap to pay full price for that stuff though.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think baby clothes are way to pricey, considering they will only wear them a few times before they quickly outgrow them.
Nothing wrong with looking for cheaper places to buy them

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I agree-I wanted a couple of cute "going out" outfits, and Chris HAS to have something to "represent" his teams, but for the most part I don't want to spend more than a couple $$ for something that will be thrown up on, pooped on and only worn a couple times...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

That's right LK, they are too pricey.

I love that Joyce! Way way cute!

Stacey you got some good deals girl! LOL men and their favorite teams, crack me up.

Well the verdict is out at work, it was out last night but I stayed until 5:30 talking to my bosses. My co-worker who I share jobs with but she's always whining about how she doesn't want to be at work and my boss has to almost, well not almost, babysit her to get work done because she's too busy babysitting her husband and playing Sudoku, her last day is July 30th. If there are anymore budget cuts to be done Ms. Cheerful's last day will be Sept. 30, if we don't have to cut budget again she won't have to go. I move into my private office on August 1st, and will work in there unless there's no phone coverage.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you are keeping your job, and getting your own office! YEAH!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh goodness!!! I totally miss this thread!!
Thanks Stacey. Jonathan will have a nice wardrobe for sure.
You're a smart one. Kids grow out of their clothes so fast, truly more economical to buy used ones as long as they're in good condition.

Now that this is on watch.. I shall return!!!
