LOL! Meredith, yes, that was supposed to be my job to plant some weeds at Bill's place. I was actually going to bring some just for fun. But, alas, it wasn't to be. Most likely I will have another RU at my place next summer during peak DL season again. I enjoy doing that and showing people around. BTW, I'm thinking of putting some sweet autumn clematis on my arbor that leads into my sunken patio. Right now I have clematis 'Gurnsey Cream on there, one on each side. It does not cover like I want it to, and the SAC will do that job nicely. I'll move GC somewhere else.

Bill, I just don't know how you keep up all the weeding. I need to get a lot more mulching done. My problem is lack of money to buy the mulch, so for now I'm using grass clippings and applying them as I get unmulched beds weeded. Don't care for the look of it, but it will do the job untill I can get my cow manure that I prefer.

Poor Hank!

I learned Bill's weed free secret, and it involves the mother in law.

the plumbing issue was solved by my wife - her toilet had been running and needed a new flap - with work when i pass a hardware store they are closed at 6AM and at 7PM - she finally got one herself and actually installed it - problem solved - must have really been using up a lot of water - she thinks she is a regular fix-it queen now :)

louise - i got up and went for a hike this morning up that little mtn. in ashburham on 119 - came home with a nice topped rock with quartz in it and my first stone mushroom stem!

then spent the rest of the day planting - both rebuds are in the ground - i put the weeping ruby falls very close to the stone seat by the shade garden - planted all of the left over run plants - although most went into the pile of dirt sown by the wood pile - chopped some wood - and then potted 20 hosta while in front of the fire pit with a cold brown beverage or three.

tired now!

they ONLY do the veggy garden! god love them!

Bill, Bill, Bill......how DO you do it???? I think we all like hanging around you just in case some of that stamina and energy rubs off on us. Why am I not surprised? Good score on the mushroom stem! why, why, why couldn't you have found it before the show and tell tour?!! Guess you'll have to have a Spring RU for sure! lol

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think i will take a break on the ru's :)

Totally weird, since I totally did not feel like I was getting sick

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

someone left behind thier chairs - they were black ones - i think it was John ? let me know and i will bring them to the next gathering we both attend - or you can pick them up.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

So glad the RU was a success. I thought about you all day. Surely wish I had been there, but Mom's bday party went very well.

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Twas I who forgot the black chairs, Bill. I swear my mind goes MIA on me all too often. I wouldn't mind, except they belong to my tenants. I'm planning on bringing Peggy to Ayer and myself to Brookline, NH later in the week, so could you leave them out back or in the driveway, and I'll pick them up?

Thanks so much for the lovely roundup. It was really nice seeing and meeting everyone and seeing your fabulous yard.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hi sue - i'll leave them leaning against the bball post in the driveway.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

someone left behind a plant the appears to have a slightly var. leaf and a tall'ish flowA spike. what are left of the flowA's are red. I am curious to know what it is?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yay for the wife!!!!!

Jen, hope you feel better soon!

Talk about feeling sick, I ended up at the ER last night for my asthma. Feeling much better today, though, after that long ordeal. They put me on prednisone for 3 days and gave me a prednisone IV drip while I was there, as well as a breathing treatment and oxygen. Chest x-rays came out normal, as well as an EKG. I was having chest pains, but it only hurt when I breathed in.

My friend Karen's daughter came over and stayed with Dad while I went to the hospital, as my sis was working an overnight shift. I was really grateful that she offered to do that for me. I also had a couple of friends who met me at the hospital for moral support, which was so nice. One of them stayed there until I went home. She has been my best friend since we were kids.

Bill, without seeind a pick your mystery plant with the red flowers I can't be sure, but it sounds like Persicaris virginica 'Painter's Palette'.

Feel better, Karen!

Thanks, you two!

Asthma is tricky. I have occasionally felt short of breath this month & think some sort of pollen or mold is causing it. See the doc Oct 12 so will learn what is flying about.

Glad that you are better.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks Karen, same to you, that must have been scary.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Karen - glad to hear that you are doing better! I have had asthma all my life too, but it is well controlled by Symbicort and (knock wood) I haven't needed an inhaler in years. Stay well.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

DD was diagnosed w/Asthma when she was 12, weened herself off all her meds except the inhaler occasionally by the time she was 22. Recently she finally broke down and went to see an allergiest a few weeks ago. She has numerous allergies, dog and cat, pine trees, pollen, dust mites, and the list goes on. She was also sat down and told she does have asthma and needs meds for it and has been EXTREMELY lucky all these years!! Considering a very promient journalist died recently due to an asthma attack...Tarsha has decided to take all her meds like a good girl. ^_^

Thomaston, CT

It's very scary....my DIL suffers from it, & has since she was hospitalized for pneumonia at age 1......hope you are feeling much better, Karen!

South Hamilton, MA

My inhalers stopped working several years ago. So I am on Advair & no more trips to the ER.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)
