Stinkin' deer
Edibles '10 - Part 2
Thanks, Sherrie....will be making some relish this week! You should spray something, Victor, to keep the deer away....or how about ammonia soaked rags on the cages?
schickenlady, you may save my marriage! DH came in last night with a scowl holding a couple zucchini and pronounced that he knew when he saw me planting 6 of them that we were doomed. I made two loaves of a dark spicy zucchini bread this morning. Haven't tasted it yet. But the relish looks like the perfect thing to do with a slew of them.
I might try a making a chutney recipe with some of them too. I found a recipe for some 2 day zucchini pickle spears this morning and will do those this week too as we have lots of dill ready to go. We have a zillion cherry tomatoes ready, so I think a tomato, cheese and zucchini pie will be happening this week too. Some of the full sized ones are turning now. Then there is the yellow squash. Glad it is a good veggie year, but I will be toting some of it all to town and putting it in random peoples cars. Patti
Didn't know there were blue ball foods!
There are if you complain about your wife's cooking!
Patti, am making lots of curried summer squash soup!
First tomato - a volunteer yellow currant tomato.
You're way ahead of me!
Robindog, great plan for the curried summer squash soup. I could make the base and freeze it for winter. Currently I can't eat anything acidic, spicy, or with caffeine or chocolate and did I mention alcohol? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Hopefully I will be fixed soon. Patti
I would simply curl up and die without chocolate.
I'm w/Yank... chocolate daily!
And lots of it!
^_^
I found a great sounding recipe for a dense chocolate zucchini cake. The zucchini isn't suppose to add flavor but tons of moisture. I will make it soon, and have my house guest rate it. Patti
Sounds good, let us know how it turns out
MMMM...sounds yummy! Hope you're feeling lots better, Patti.
Great. Now I want a chocolate bar.
Hope you're fixed soon Patti!
Thanks for that recipe, Sherrie!
My Jet Star tomatoes are coming in now...had one with some of the cukes and onion tonight.
Patti - my goodness, I'll bet you are rolling in those zuchinis!! I'd like to hear how you like the chocolate/zuch recipe! Hope you are feeling better and up to all this cooking!!
Patti, i'll trade recipes with you......please? I have zuccini up the nostrils!! LOL
Hope your on the mend, I miss your pictures and post ;)

Haven't made this one yet, it's next on the list.
ZUCCHINI ORANGE BREAD

Makes 2 loaves.
I've got toms turning red! I think they like where I planted this year.
Thanks, I am off to Boston this morning to hopefully get a temporary fix at Brigham's tomorrow, Botok shots in my esophagus. Hope it helps my face too! I will share that recipe when I get back. I like the sound of that orange bread.
Last night I sauted onions, garlic then grated zucchinni then I added cooked rice. After it was hot, I added chopped fresh tarragon, salt, pepper and some lemon juice and cooked for about 2 min. more and served. It was a hit and super simple. I managed a few bites. Now I have to start dealing with the cukes too and a mountain of yellow squash. I should start doing stuffed squash blossoms so we don't have so many. Not complaining about the plethora, yet.
I will try to take some pictures soon. Lilies are spectacular and so are my weeds. Patti
picked our first summer squash last night - and another huge batch of bush beans - only have two cukes getting close - my garden seems to be late this year
picked summer squash, zuccinni and 2 cukes yesterday....have tons of green matos!
Picking some large beets, will be making borscht for DS.
Robindog, Sadly our our beets were a dud. I will have to make do with chilled cucumber soup. Patti
I do have good luck with beets....now if that only extended to the tomatoes!
Been picking a few cherry and grape tomatoes everyday, today picked my first better boy tom...very strangely shaped
Found a golf ball sized potato in the bed but nothing else. Obviously growing potatoes in a bed of leaves and straw is not working for me. But I think I am making compost in that bed with all the rain and heat. Compost is good . . . right?
I would think so.....the plants need to get with the program!
For you chocolate lovers, try this, it's a quote from Critterologist in the MA forum. The cinnamon she is referring to is from Penzeys, good prices and unbelievable quality. I'll include a link. Ric
"try making a batch of brownies from a box mix, using 1/4 cup of Kahlua, 1/4 cup baking cocoa, and 2 teaspoons Ceylon cinnamon. Decadent!"
http://www.penzeys.com/
oh man.... sounds great
Kahlua - yum!
Mmmmm....hope someone brings those brownies to Bill's RU!
Corn is beginning to tassle, pickin beans, grape and pear tomatoes and some about the size of a golf ball only a little bigger. Larger toms are loaded but still green. Yellow summer squash on the vine, pick in a couple of days. Zucs are slow this year and not doing terriblly well. WInter squash is blooming and the cukes are finally coming on. Now if I can just get rid of a couple of pesty groundhogs I'll be set.
