Lordy, she's a cutie pie! Give her an extra hug! I usually see mine only once a week, but not this week, as I'm leaving for NY on Fri. I'm picking 2 varieties of toms.....Purple Smudge Orange Flesh, & Giant Syrian...

I think I have tomato envy.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Bill, next year try starting them in the house, or buy starters and plant black plastic, or black weed cloth under them. I really think it makes a difference...keeps the heat and moisture in, which both melons love.

Adorable little Pixie-ette, Celeste! Cake looks like it was good! LOL

A picture's worth a thousand weedy words re: my veggies.

The veggies look terrific, Louise! Bill, I'm still hoping for rain!

I gotta be doing something wrong with my cukes.

Thanks, Marilyn! Gosh ...I just caught sight of the impatiens window boxes on my railings and even though Hank watered them while I was making supper, they are looking horrid. Gasp Gasp!! Water, please!! Rain, Rain, please come here tonight!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

too cute Celeste!!

Went out to pick something for my lunch box this morning and one of the Roma tomato plants had split down the center from the load of fruit. I only had time to stack bricks up to support the broken stem. I hope that works.

Infested - 5 horn worms today. Tomatoes have taken a toll.

but at least I have some! 2 years ago we were pick over a gallon of cherries a day.

Hope it works, Memory...Sherrie, those toms look great.....I planted Black Cherry this year, & they're still green.

I have done nothing in the veggie garden or any garden this year. I keep saying I threw in the towel from last year. This year gives me "some hope". So maybe I wont be thrown under the weeds. Oh I mean bus. Oh I really mean weeds!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no you mean under the blight!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The couple of romas that got ripe were half gone with blossom end rot. :( The three cherry tomatoes I got today were OK.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

:(
I got a couple grape and cherry toms today

Made some chard - was great. Made it with oil, garlic and turkey bacon.

Now I am totally confused.

27. Q. Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable.

A. The tomato is legally-declared a vegetable by the Supreme Court of the United States. A vegetable is a herbaceous (non-woody) plant or plant part which can be eaten without processing and is usually consumed with the main meal.

OMG! The US SUPREME COURT is legislating food now?

Back in 1893 - this is the best I can find. I even went to the US Supreme Court to find the docket.

It's both. Botanically, it's a fruit. Veggies are defined by us, usually based on how we eat them.

Still confusing. Its a veggie only a fruit on the vine.

Getting ready to make some more zuck relish.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yesterday I picked 11 summer squash, 5 zuccini, 25 cukes, 3 green peppers, 2 purprle peppers and 6 ears of corn.

Last one.

I pulled off 8 in 5 days. That was it, and Sevins went on. This is the 7th year Ive had them (except last - BLIGHT).

Dont know why but Jim thinks its because we are do close to wetlands?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I think they live in the soil until next year......

"The moths lay eggs that hatch in only one week, turning into the large 4 1/2- to 5-inch green caterpillar, then pupate in the soil to hatch again next year."

I thought they turned into a moth. I know someone here said dont kill them. Take them some place and dump them.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

ahhhhhh, love that sunny corner of the garden.....finally, some sizable tomatoes!!

still green, but our wild Concord grapes made a comeback this year. Last year they froze early on and we had no jelly for the winter!
