Today's Weather in Your Garden - 73

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh no!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

if this heat keeps up here too - no time now to water everything

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Can you stop up the shower venu or take a bucket in when you shower and use that water to pour on the plants that need it the most, also dishwater can be recycled instead of going down the drain as I think some one mentioned earlier.
We officially hit 100 degrees today. There is a slight chance for thunder storm tomorrow evening. I hope we get a few drops here as the last round of storms missed this area. Spent about an hour with hose in hand watering front garden this evening. Will try to hit the back beds tomorrow if no rain develops. Temp down to 86 now.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

got to 93 here. callinf for 95 tomorrow.
Allison, if you want to swim in water that cold, go see the ocean near irisMA.

I've used water I've steamed veggies in to water plants.Works well.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Or save the water from your humidifier if you use one. I do.

South Hamilton, MA

97 here today 100 in boston/ down to 82 at the moment so opened a couple of windows for a cross draft. Spent the afternoon reading to TV in a room with a/c

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

How about the dehumidifier?

South Hamilton, MA

We run that in the basement when necessary.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

we just got one, very necessary.

South Hamilton, MA

& a source of garden water.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

103 here a record for the date... I drove about Manhattan all day.. you could `f`eel the heat pulse in waves off the black `top as you'd walk over it...like it had a pulse.. and the vbrations were released as heat.. pumping in waves up at you... I'm sure it was close to the 162* F that the roof was before i left... welll up to water and a foliar feeding spray.. bboth as a medical intervention.. keep cool ya'll

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

How about ocean water??? WIll the salt kill the plants???

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I know some plants & trees can take the ocean water and not be affected, in fact they thrive on it, but most conventional plants wouldn't take well to it...

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Sounds like drip irrigation or soaker hoses would be handy about now.

The incredibly long drought year of 1988 cured me from "sprinkling". I think I probably still have some scars/burns from dragging black hoses around Gainsborough Farm watering three years worth of newly-planted 4-6" caliper shade trees on 750 acres.

Record number of days over 100°F for KY. At least they gave us T-shirts commemorating our diligence to the task.

You soon learn to let the boiling water run out of the hose (after lunch, from sitting in black rubber in those temps) before applying it to plant life - if you want life afterwards. And, you wore gloves while handling those heat absorbers. Makes you wonder why there aren't more white-colored hoses in production...

Have not lost many viburnums to drought. Most losses are due to other stresses (the infamous 2007 Easter freeze, followed by 2008 periodical cicada emergence, 2009 ice storm) exacerbated by drought periods. The weak go by the wayside - the rest survive.

"That which does not kill you makes you stronger."

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh gosh, tell me about it with those black hoses, that's what we have....OUCH!!!!

South Hamilton, MA

Our hoses are red, They are laid out, but not always connected. DH runs them in evening hours when they are used.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

82°, wind N 9mph, Rh 55%, sunny

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

78*F at 8AM, 83* already. Enough already. Ric

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Temp is 84 degrees with a light SE wind. Not supposed to be as hot today, only mid 90s but more humid.

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning, everyone.

Another Hot, Humid and Hazy day in Western New York. Currently 82 degrees heading for the low 90's again. Humidity at 75% with winds only 5 mph and an air quality alert. A 'close' day that I will spend in the air conditioning again. My wonderful wife watered all gardens and pots in the back yard today before she went to work at 8:00. Rain expected for this Friday and I am looking forward to that.

Have a blessed and wonderful Wednesday, folks. :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

92 with 40% H. Much breezier. Supposed to be the last really hot day. We'll see.

I have the red commercial hose from HD and I always let the water run out first. Incredible how hot it gets.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Geez it's already 94°!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! humidity is 37%

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It only went down to 78 overnight!

Thomaston, CT

I managed to walk both dogs today....a first since Sat......temp was 81 when I started, 85 when I finished but the humidity is terrible. My hose is in a hose box, & it stays fairly cool.

84° but humidity makes it uncomfortable. Another indoor day. Tomorrow starts with the dentist & air conditioning.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Low humidity here. Only 37%. It's rare to have high humidity and temps this high. Usually only happens before a storm. The high heat just burns off any water vapor in the air.

I went in the pool and now its cold in the house!

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Come south, young man.

The high heat continues to evaporate water off any source of moisture. Sans appreciable winds, the sogginess just hangs in the air.

This is fungus weather...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I was referring to our neck of the woods. Your Dante-esque climes are a completely different story.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

In S. Fl there is usually a nice breeze, but due to the proximity to the ocean, it's still always humid.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

A lot of clouds forming and sometimes blocking out the sun, but temp is still 92 degrees. Dew point is 72, feels really icky here. The southerly winds are bringing the humidity with them, wish they would bring some rain.

My mop heads were wilting! The only Fungus that will live up here now is deep into the woods where its shady and damp: Or under the toenails - Digger the dermatafite
(remember that commercial) ? :-)

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Forget it! There is no breeze in S Fla! (except at night or early January) lol!! Even Mia Beach & The Keys were stagnant! On the other hand a 20 min air taxi to the Bahamas offered some relief, not as developed there with all the concrete, airports, malls, cars, plazas, parking lots, 8 lane highways, etc etc etc. ☺!

... did I ever mention I hate the heat? - I Hate The Heat!! lol!!

99.8° ugh...

I love Fl. give me a boat or the beach.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Really?! Every time I was there - Jan, May, Aug and Oct, there was a strong wind.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

The wind must have changed from the 5 years I lived in Fort Lauderdale... lol!

Thomaston, CT

This feels like FL weather....94 here, slight breeze....took my Mom out to lunch & shopping to give her a break from the heat, but her basement is actually chilly.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's 101° right now....even the grass is hot, had to water down my feet.

Best chance at showers is Friday night, hopefully more than just a shower though. I think at this point we need a week straight of rain.

Thomaston, CT

Agreed!
