Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds Barb as though you've state of the art equipment..lordy you are courageous to try it...Norm knows a lot about computers? if memory serves me right, did he take an upgrade recently??? You'd be proud of me Barb, am working on the next 3 blocks for August..imagine I just might be early..so what's happening in your neck of the woods, anything special? grandchildren having summer vacation with you? did you ever plant any of the seeds that I sent?

LindaKay, never saw a mandavila here but that just could be because I haven't been looking..

Am hoping that if Paul lets us off early on Friday I'll go to the Garden Gallery and see what types of perrenials I can purchase that are red..came to the conclusion that the only plants/shrubs I'll now purchase are those that I don't already have and are unusual.. right now there is so much white and yellow going on...lol

Hey Betty, you have room for one of these. Maybe your relatives in Florida can pick it up for you?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, I want it...problem is when you purchase these things, there is nobody to check how to use it...think for something like that you need lessons...but oh, would I love it and yes, I have room for it..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Check at your local fabric shops, maybe they could help you out with lessons?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wouldn't it be nice IF with having a mom/sister/aunt & girlfriends who all do either quilt block quilts, cross stitch tops and applique quilts that we don't all chip in and buy one..now there is an idea...why do I never think of craigslist to check things like this..off I go to see!

Baton Rouge, LA

Yup LK! That's what is so great about DG! Learning new stuff and Making Friends!

We got Mandevilla (the pink) for MIL one time... I've never seen one in the ground around here... so never bought one...but they always catch my eye at the nursery because they are SO pretty...

IT has rained every day lately... so nice to water the plants we put in the ground Saturday. Supposed to have family over Sunday... if it clears up a bit ...I'll get some pics of what we've planted...and post
Hugs,
Mary

PS: Judy - thinking about you ! Hope you are doing well !

Our Lake Amistad has risen 16 feet in the last three days. We have had so much rain. Now they have to open the gates at the dam, to let some water out, and all those living below the dam on the rio grande, are flooded. I don't think it should be allowed to build houses on an area known to flood like that! Most of them don't have insurance, then they want the government to help them out. Just my opinion.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hmmmm not good LindaKay, that's quite a rise..when Roger was alive we lived on the trent waterway system, we were the 1st lock at Georgian Bay entrance, they'd letter water in and out as needed, we never had to worry about any kind of flooding..was fantastic..house was about 10' away from shoreline..guess that's why we were allowed to build so close.. you must be tired of rain, you sent me your heat and now I'm asking for you to send your rain...

Yesterday afternoon needed to go purchase a tube for the wheelbarrel, Greg came last night to do repairs but thinks I should return it and purchase a tube/tire combo set as the tire will need it shortly, says not much more$$$

While I was there I bought a couple of bags of material that I think was listed on the hypertufa instructions, no time to check last night but I'll check today and pick up what else I need..because it's a project of wait and see once they are made (especially for the first time) I'll do a batch on the weekend then by fall I'll know if they turned out I'm ready to make more containers for spring...

Suzanne is going to Toronto this afternoon so I'll be having lunch on my own, good time for me to drop into the Garden Gallery and see what plants I don't have that are on sale...want to fix my front side garden near the deck..so shaded nothing grows so a few ninebark would fill in the space perfectly..now's the time to buy, lots of places have plants/shrubs 50% off, some places though have plants half dead..lol not worth it..

Time to leave, best I not forget to shut my sprinkler off..today is an even day so it's watering day..oops forgot the past few days that we were on watering guidelines even and odd...

Betty, are you always on water restrictions? We are, only when it is really hot, and have had no rain for months on end.
Morning Riley!
Hope you have a good shopping day.

Morning Tubby, what are you doing today?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lindakay, I didn't realize it was water restrictions all year round, Suzanne seemed to think so, I'll call the municipality today and verify if it is..wouldn't want to get into trouble..

Shopping for plants is always fun...

SOOOO have any of you tried doing hypertufa??? help needed!

Mary, you sure do have the bug, lol, when you first came on this thread it was mostly your DH who did the gardening and now look at you! Hope weather is nice for Sunday, nothing better than having family and being outside enjoying their company is such pretty surroundings...

Jeff and Julie are leaving on the kayak trip, listened to gossip that said they left yesterday but no, it's next Wednesday, said they'd be over for supper..she's vegetarian so will have to come up with something she can eat...he's sooo looking forward to time off..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning ladies... I'm getting better at finding my way around this keyboard. The typing keys are easy - it's all those other little tricky ones that I have to hunt and peck for - like home and delete and end, etc. Plus a whole new row of commands at the top that I need to learn. If I don't use it all the itme, I forget what they are for!!! Heehee
I'm half way through moving my sewing room upstairs from the basement. I'm going to a smaller space but one that has a window. I felt as though the room downstairs was closing in on me. I'll have some storage upstairs but will keep a lot down until I need it (like batting and cases etc.) I have finished my Christmas blocks and am working on the row robin for the other room. Also trying the diamond shapes for the log cabin quilt. (Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin).
The weather here now is HOT< HOT< HOT and I cannot leave the house unless it is absolutely necessary. These breathing issues really do me in. I'm scheduled for a hearing exam tomorrow so I'm hoping it cools off a bit. We do have good AC in the car and it is a 45 minute drive so I'm sure I'll be okay.
My family is getting tired of me continually asking "What did you say?"
Have a great day and stay cool and dry!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, my dad always said we were 'mumbling' he didn't have bad hearing at all...maybe they'll come back to you with good results and you can tell the kids it's not your hearing but the same, it's they who mumble...lol

Sounds as though you've now mastered the laptop..yikes, a photographer who paints with Darlene at my house was over Sat. and took mega photo's..last night I noticed she had one of those memory sticks inserted in my computer so I could see the photo's..touched something and puff can't find the photo's and I don't really want to play with the stick incase I do damage..

My computer at home is so slow, think it's something to do with main line..Rogers' Cable are coming to instal new lines Saturday morning, if they don't fix the problem then I'll have to change server...

I've windows downstairs but they are small, I get the same way, with 6 large tables down in that room I often still bring the machine upstairs so I can see outside...do you think it could be because I'm nosey???

got 3 more 4 1/2" blocks embroidered so this weekend I'll play at doing August blocks for you..know my name is one of the 3 but thought I'd do a block and send it along so I'll have one, if I don't do that who knows, might not get one done for ME.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds like you are on a roll too with the Christmas blocks. Send them on as you finish a bunch of them. I have bags set up and labeled for each of us and a spreadsheet in place so I can see who is missing etc. LK has sent all of hers as well.
Time to shut this down and get busy....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Talk about organized for you to have ALL of them made Barb..you and LindaKay are something else..

Another hot/sticky day today..morning seems to be taking forever .. can it be I want lunch NOW? maybe it's that trip to the nursery..always goodies to find there..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Okay Betty, it's noon now so I guess you can go play!!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol, no, the young ladies just this minute left for their lunch so won't go until 1:30..makes it late in the day, but on the positive side, by the time I come back at 2:30 afternoon only has 2 1/4 hrs. left to it... clouding over, know they said posibility of rain late tonight, maybe LindaKay sent it early...

Barb, Mike and Ann had to be at the specialist this morning in the city...all appt.s and possible procedure appts. are booked weeks/months away, sometimes you have to wonder if it's being done purposely??? and the reason for that, well, let's just not think about it..Ann and I had a nice talk Tuesday..regardless how well prepared you think you are to hear final results, doubt you ever are!

prayers for them please..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

My prayers for Mike and Ann are ongoing and constant. I'll get another card off this week....

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Lots and Lots of prayers for them Betty!

Victoria Harbour, ON

thanks...Barb, you have no idea what your cards have done for Ann..unless she calls me tonight I'll not call her incase it's difficult for her to talk, but, as soon as I know I'll post...

Crissy, you must be busy/busy!

So much on sale at the Garden Gallery, bought some shrubs, think I'd have bought more but with it being over 100 degrees outside, didn't think the perrenials would survive for a few more hours...have to go when it's to the nursery and directly home...

Was to have gone painting tonight but with high humidity and headache, well, just have to put it off until another week...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Yea, and thinking about all that's going on in my life right now.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I am trying real hard to send you some rain, sure hope you get it!
Our Lake is still full to the brim, the water at the dam, is now level with the road, so they had to shut down the bridges going to Mexico. No one can get in or out now. All the towns south of us are flooded. They have opened all the gates on the dam, and that will only make it worse for those south of us.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That doesn't sound good LindaKay, you are in no danger to flood are you?

You are sending it indeed, can see the trees swaying from side to side, think the temp just dropped 8 degrees..yikes, see a weather warning across the bottom of my screen..watching close, left roof window and all the side windows open so my shrubs won't die...better not rain for another 45 minutes...don't blow so hard to send the rain..give me time to shut the windows...lol

Moving to here...
