Just remembered one of my best last week, there was so many, but this one was when Crissy and I stayed at my mom's (porcelaine dolls everywhere) lol...mom gave me a beautiful diamond ring along with the appraisal on it...I've been wearing it then caught myself in the garden without gloves so think I'd best put it away for when I just go out! will have to take a photo to show you...

Best of today..Corey next door was bitten by several bees and is allergic and did not have an epy pen so ambulance rushed him into the hospital..doing fine...thank goodness..2nd best..getting to mail all those Christmas quilt blocks to Barb

Worse of today...feeling like crap..yuk

What did I learn today??? a good friend Bob is selling his house and moving in with long time girlfriend...I'm so happy for him..

Think it's time for bed...

Betty - I sure hope you feel better soon. You are such a rock it's hard to think of you stopping for even a minute... Those amaryllis are gorgeous! I've never seen that color amaryllis before :)

LK - That's so cool ....that agapanthus are rare over there... They should do well since our weather is similar ...but it makes me wonder what plants are popular in your area that are rare here that I could try here :)

Judy - Sounds like you are having a run of luck ! Got my fingers crossed for Breenie !

Crissy - You are right... I should 'take a hint'... DH mowed down our crocosmia last time... firespike next... and then my glass birdbath.

We were joking about bringing kevlar vests to the Fireworks downtown... (Someone was shot there years past). I told DH... nevermind... just bring your LAWNMOWER.... LOL!

I sure hope the taxes get straight... might just be a matter of getting the records out and proving to them your deductions.... Good luck :)

Hugs to all,
Mary

I say they are rare here, is because most all plants are native, and that means lots of cactus plants, and natural brush like purple sage, mesquit trees! Not too many people have any type of garden, because of our poor soil, and the heat we have! All of my plants are in pots or in the raised flower bed for my angel trumpets. So when I saw those at wal mart, I had to grab them. Now I am looking for other colors. There is a really dark blue/purple, and a light pink one I have seen pictures of.
Betty, those blocks are beautiful! Can't wait to see the ring your Mom gave you. How is she feeling?
Hope you get rid of your crud soon.

With mom it's just endless, called her at the cottage on Sunday and said her leg gave out..good test results on the kidney's although they want her tested every 3 months..how odd, her skin opens at a touch..when I stopped in on Wednesday after dropping Crissy off, she just turned around hit the corner of the fencing, not hard, should not have even gotten a scratch but split her arm about 1/2 inch, then a few minutes later, caught her arm on a limb and again wide open and bleeding..something's wrong with her blood though , doubt it's age that is making her skin so thin..depressing for her NOT to be able to do all she always was able to do...other than that, she only goes once a week for her shot so it gives her more flexibility re her time..

Wow is it hot here again today, thank goodness for a/c...don't know how you gals manage having it all summer long..hope the heat wave breaks by next week..

Time to get ready, slow moving today, even shut the alarm and stayed in bed 1 more hour...lol lazy me!

Gab later

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

hope everyone had a nice 4th...
all is well granny is good were all good just been busy with new dog trying to un alpha him
were getting there lol.
two weeks ago we were walking at the park he got a bone stuck to the roof of his mouth
after moments of yelling and growling we finally got home so i could check yep stuck up there.
so stupid enough forgetting his food obsession i was trying to unlodge it so he wouldnt choke(bad move) needless to say he thought i wanted his find and he bit me two times on my right hand.

after 7 stiches and my cover up on falling on a wood pile with nails
my hand got infected and i wound up in the hospital for 5 days
and this all happened on my birthday geeez.

but all is well and i learned it was a freak accident
he is a good dog so for precaution we now muzzle him around people and on our walks
thats the little devil standing

How's hubby doing?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, you can get a wireless mouse to use with the laptops. They are nice, cause you can take them with you.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hi all!!!! I have been so busy with my hostas and daylilies and Scotty and all. Sorry for not posting. I am entering 20 photos in the County Fair this month. I have to cut posterboard not more than half inch around and glue pic on so will take some time. The Japanese beetles are trying to eat everything. We are fine here. HUGS BEV

Oh! forgot the name. That is American Freedom.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

You need to get some milky spore from amazon.com. That will get rid of those beetles!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I have been picking off about 300 a day.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, that is a lot. Order some of the milky spore, and you won't have them anymore!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, glad you posted, again we were getting worried, always miss friends who don't drop in for awhile...omg,I've the same beetles, totally destroyed all my lillies...you know, the lady who sells in Elmvale every year was not there this year because her crop was attacked as well..

Anxious to hear how you do with the contest..you take some of the loveliest photo's...I had a friend bring a photographer last Saturday to the house, she took numerous photo's..Darlene said she saw them and was in awe...her camera looked pretty spectacular, lordy she was taking photo's in the oddest position, almost upside down she was...lol

I'll ask for some...

Think I need a better camera..

How's Scotty doing with all this heat?

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

He doen't feel it and sits on the porch. He will keel over one of these days. He is so stuburn.

Betty, I think you have these lily leaf beetles. They are different. You said they are red bugs?

http://www.gardeners.com/Controlling-Lily-Beetles/8090,default,pg.html

Victoria Harbour, ON

Those are the suckers LindaKay..I was at Walmart at lunch, they had mature plants, phlox, lillies, etc outside for sale for $9.99..I looked at those lillies and wanted to purchase a few, checked them over twice, didn't see any critters but thought I'd pass..maybe by next year they will have moved on..

Bev, sometimes you have to wonder if it's not best to let him enjoy what he enjoys most...keeping an eye out for you..should something happen you'll know it he went the way he wanted to, at home and at peace...

Debbie, where have you been???? all ok..starting to worry about you as well..hope no other mishap has happened...

I'm just like an old mother hen, checking up on all my chickies...lol

Do miss Trisha!

Well, it's bingo night tonight, right now it's 91 not factoring in humidity so not gardening time, although my grass is really growing..put the sprinkler on and soon came inside...I've been embroidering pieces of Christmas decor for my quilt blocks over the weekend, next 3 aren't due until mid August but thought while I'm doing nothing, waiting for bingo so I can win the jackpot I'd let the machine embroider...then come a rainy weekend day, I can make the actual blocks..sure am trying to keep on top of things...all my swaps are done, that makes me feel good...

Hmmm had a big lunch so don't think I'll have my porkchop/turnip and potatoes, I'll save that for tomorrow..maybe just a sandwhich will do..

Know if I get comfy on the chesterfield, that will be the end of me so best I keep moving...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hello all - hope you had a great Canada Day ^_^

Susan

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello Susan, hope things are going well for you..omg, keep thinking of my thread friends and here you almost are all dropping in with a 'hi' you have no idea how nice that is...

Yes, Canada Day was great, wasn't feeling up to par but enjoyed the day..nice having an extended long weekend...how about you?? Any news on the homefront sale?

Baton Rouge, LA

Glad to see ya Barb & Bev & Liz !

Haven't heard in a long time...so glad to see you :)

What a rascal...Tux! I'm hoping to get a new dog soon. It will have to be compatible with our fat cat Shadow... the alpha cat...

LK - I guess I just don't think about the different soil conditions....but that is very interesting... Is that where they do the xeriscape or what ever it's called?

Back in a bit...

Hugs,
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Most people just don't bother with flowers or lawns for that matter. It is just to hot to keep anything growing. Lots of gravel lawns, and cacti in the yards!

Baton Rouge, LA

WOW! Well just keep those agapanthus in pots then... we have the light purple ones... DH wants the dark purple ones... I've never heard of Pink. I've heard of white.... THey do spread DH says but slowly.... the cold winter set ours back a bit....but we do have one in a pot that is blooming...

I am learning SO much about gardening !

Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is why we are here at DG! So much to learn!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I can't keep it all straight LindaKay, I just see a plant in the nurseries or what you all post and say, 'got to have me one of those' and hope that once I find it they will survive..lol..

Cold seems to be breaking, called for 110 counting in humidex factor so a good day to be inside..

Didn't win at Bingo, drats, would have loved to go get a riding lawnmower, not sure why when Cathy comes over and does my lawn every week..lol..late last night I watered the gardens, sure were thirsty..had I not done so, think I'd have lost quite a few potted plants..

Darlene called me early this morning to say Walmart had large gallon plants for sale for $9.99 - included were red astilbe..I've white, pink, purple tones but red would be wonderful..either tonight or tomorrow night I'll go pick a few up..

In between my antics last night I managed to do 3 christmas embroidery squares so now over the next week or so I can do the quilt blocks and include them in..happy about that..

Stopped at Bernie's last night, he looked ragged, said he had to wait for cooler weather to finish my deck..told him it would be cool on Saturday AND I need help to finish that flower shed..he just shook his head..lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, have you tried any of the climbing mandavila. I have a red and a white one. They also come in pink.

Good morning all. I think I'm finally getting better at this laptop. I do have a wireless mouse, Betty, as I just couldn't handle the finger pad at all!!!! I couldn't get that curser where I wanted it for anything. Norm also put Office 2010 on it and I'm having all kinds of fun learning that as well.. And - to make this learning thing even more extensive, I'm going from Windows XP to Windows 7. I'm getting lost at the drop of a hat!!!!! But the determination is there too..heehee. Just forgive my mistakes when they happen. I am trying to proofread everything as I go along....
