Gypsies heading for summer

Delhi, LA

The reason he could get so much money for one day lily was because it would be a brand new that could be marketed by a major company that no one else had. I am sure there were probably patents involved. No telling how much money they would make off a new day lily when they introduced it. If you have ever followed the day lily thread, those folks will pay a fortune for a new day lily. It has to have a registered name before most will fool with it. Me and jj just like them. Names mean nothing to us.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Right Jim.
I have a hard time remembering the kid's names much less the flowers. LOL

Delhi, LA

Know what you mean. I use to give all the kids on my school bus a name, saved trouble trying to learn there real name. They probably wouldn't ride that bus over 14 years and it just wasn't worth the effort.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK, we did not pose her for this picture.
She does this all on her own a lot.
We call her the Thinker. LOL
Really makes you wonder what could be going though that mind!
I just had to share it ^_^

Awww she is so cute and those little chubby cheeks.
She is thinking when is Grandma (MIL) going home ...LOL

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL JJ

I'll keep that one to myself, but my son might like that one too. LOL

Chubby cheeks and a double chin the poor girl.

She's precious, Kassy!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Good idea Kassy. I'm sure they wouldn't see the humor in it. lol
She is a cutie and looks nice and healthy.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, she only mowed the lawn JJ. And I think she wanted to do it. So we didn't put her to work too bad.

This was the last picture I got of my Calla lilies before I came back from my BF's. Of course all of them are planted up there.
Flowers, I do grow them outside, in big pots in the summer on his east deck. They all get pulled in before the freeze comes. Then I wait for them to die back and dig them all out and store them for the next spring.

These are my Calla Lily Babies.
These were all seeds from my Calla Lilies that I planted.
Some day I should have bulbs big enough to blossom.
Some day!

aaw she's beautiful Kassy! I could blow raspberries right on the monitor!
love the calla lilies

it's sooo humid I sweat just standing out there. Not a rain drop in sight either.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

We had a thunderstorm last night Lynn. I would send it your way if I could.
A bad storm went just to the south of my BF a couple of nights ago. 100 mile an hour winds hit an area just 9 miles south of him. Lots of damage. They had predicted hail with it. Sure glad he didn't get that.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Here is my passion flower vine that I started from seed.
I talked to someone who runs a green house who has one growing and she said they didn't have much luck with them growing from seed. I can see why. I only got 2 to grow out of a package of seeds.
I think I will try to get this plant to winter over in the house. It's far from having any blossoms, and I sure would like to see at least one on it.

And this is what my BF calls Cable TV for the cats...........LOL

That cable picture is mighty clear Kassy LOL Cute for sure. Little Kirsten was thinking who are these things makeing faces at me, and what is this yellow thing on my head, never saw any ot that on the inside LOL

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh flowers, and the MIL is a stickler for the hats. Our kids never had them, and I didn't see it hurting my son any.

Everyone remember our hen and chicks that blossomed last year?
Well it's going to outdo itself this year.

Here it is this year, with 3 blossoms starting to grow.
I'm going to love following the growth of this one with pictures this year.

I just got to my BF's today, and I already know what I will be doing tomorrow.
Looks like I'll be picking Mulberries ^_^

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I want mulberries!! I want mulberries!!!! Yummy!!!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Mmmm! Those look tasty!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

We have a lot of them Marti.

We have a bunch of mulberry trees here. Last year they didn't do so well, probably because we had lack of rain. This year we have had a lot of rain.
I'm hoping to make Mulberry syrup again this year. I made some 2 years ago by mistake. Wanted to make jam but didn't want to add all the sugar that it called for. So I didn't and we ended up with syrup. Best mistake I have made in a long time ^_^

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I've made jelly with Splenda and it is good. I would love to try mulberry syrup. Should be good on french toast or pancakes. I usually make Spicy Tomato Jam for my pancakes and french toast.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes Marti, it was one of the best mistakes I had made in a long time. And I'll try for the mistake again. Looks like I should get lots of berries for it.
I just added less sugar, and that made it into syrup. This time I want to make more of it. I'm not big on jam, but we loved the syrup on pancakes and waffles.

My BF is the breakfast cook usually, and he must not care for french toast. He has never made it anyway, and we do grow our own eggs so to speak, so we don't have a shortage of them ^_^

These brown girls were our young fuzzy chicks this spring. My how fast they grow up!

Mulberry syrup sounds good.
You must not hang out laundry with all those mulberry trees. Birds, mulberrys and laundry do not mix. LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Never had mulberry syrup but bet it is good!
those new little hatchlings should give you some brown eggs real soon Kassy.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Well JJ, we do hang out a little laundry, not much. I don't like towels that are dried on the line. And he has just a very small collapsible cloths line near the house. Don't really have a problem with birds flying over that one.
He did have a bigger cloths line out in the yard, but it was under a bunch of trees, so that one is half taken down. As the trees grew bigger, it couldn't be used anymore. Most of the mulberry trees are on the fence line, around his land. We do have one growning in the chicken pen, that the chickens are going to love when it starts to drop its berries, And there is one growing right next to the pen too. The birds helped plant them all. One year he found one coming up in his garden.

Flowers, those girls are going to give us BIG brown eggs ^_^

OK where is Jim.
Here is my big yellow lily in the back of my big red one that is just starting to open. In the left lower corner is the buds for my older red day lily that was my moms. I think it's the only red one that I have. I have a bunch of her older orange ones that look a lot like ditch lilies.

Well here the birds love to fly over my laundry, and when the mulberry tree was out there it was BAD news for the laundry. I like to hang sheets out.

I am trying to collect dianthus seeds for Flowers, but seems like I pluck a lot and get very few seeds, so am I getting them to late, they are partially open or are there only one or two seeds per pod?

Whoops I got to get to work. Be back in a few hours.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

JJ, I'll have to go see if any of mine are in seed yet. I know the Raspberry swirl might be, but I just got here late yesterday afternoon and didn't get to check on much yet. Made a quick scan over things, took only a few pictures and then came into the house. Skeeters were trying to carry me away I think. With all the rain, we have a ton of them out :(

Flowers, what colors did you want? I have a new one this year called raspberry swirl. I almost picked up one that was called strawberry something, and I might go back and get it yet.

BF set up his night camera last night. He knew something had been coming around near the chicken coop. He had left some bread out there the night before and it was gone in the morning.
Camera went up and we got pictures of just what we thought was coming around.
Now, we need to figure out how to get rid of this visitor. Not a good idea to have it around chickens.

!!! WOW !!!!

Delhi, LA

I'm around Kassy. Are you old enough to remember "The Shadow." That's me. I really like both of you DL's. I really like the red one. I have a red but not nearly as pretty as yours.

I love the DL you posted Lynnie. It is almost exactly like one my niece sent me from Tennessee.

Love Day Lilies.

I don't have any new DLs blooming but how about a shot of theTiger Lilies.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

This is the one I was getting for her Kassy.
I got some just seemed like there should have been more seeds than I got. You have a bigger variety than I got if I remember right.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I have Tiger Lilies too Jim, but mine are far from blooming yet.

They said on the news last night that we are 2 weeks ahead of nomal. Even cherry picking it starting 2 weeks sooner then it usually does.

And my tomatoe plants are huge now. There over the top of there cages now.

The lilies that I put in aren't day lilies, but this one is. I thought I only had 2 of the older red ones, but today I found this one in bloom.

Picture didn't come though JJ

So how about a picture of the start of my dessert made with strawberries and rhubarb and granny smith apples. ^_^

40 minutes later it's done, and was still bubbling when I took this picture.
Am I making anyone hungry ? ^_^

I know it says it was wrong format. Same picture I posted last year.??

So lets try the one I just took.

Thumbnail by jjsgramma
Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes you are. mmmm can almost smell it

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL, I can smell it JJ.....LOL

Pretty color.
I tried to get some seeds from one of mine so far but I didn't get many seeds either. So I"m going to wait a few days and try again. In one of the seed pods, the seeds were so tiny that they looked like a speck of dirt. Either our strange weather has something do do with it, or all the bugs that are around.
Something was even eating on one of my petunia that I grew from seed :(

Here is my BF's pretty pink lily. This one I will be moving this fall. Chipmunks dug half of it out last year and ate the bulbs.

Thumbnail by kassy_51
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kassy, that is a VERY pretty lily!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Some of my columbine seed pods have been eaten this year and some seemd deformed with not many seeds.
That seems weird since I normally have a ton of them from the same plants.
Well it is nice outside so I better take advaage of it and pull some weeds.
Catch ya later have a great afternoon and save me a piece of dessert. LOL
