Gypsies heading for summer

The lily seeds I sent you last fall are from this lily.

Seems only one the lilies will make it. We have some very sassy chipmucks around here that are digging things up on me :(
I have lost some Jack in the Pulpit to them, and some young voodoo lily bulbs, and some Harty Gloxina Root to them. They weren't very harty after the chipmucks got them. They have also dug out most of the sunflower seeds that we planted :(
I want to declare war on them and wipe them out.
BF is still feeding them. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks for reminding me about the lily seeds. I almost forgot about them. Pretty Lily ^_^. I think I'll try planting them in the house, a safe place hopefully, and see how they do.

Last time I look only one of the columbine had made it, but I don't think it will blossom this year. Our growing season for a the flowers seems to be way off this year. Probably because we were so warm so fast and then got cold again. All my columbine were almost done before I even got to enjoy them.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

That's a pretty lily JJ. Yours too Kassy.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

That was the neighbors lily smiley. I dug half of it up and gave it away.
They moved to Florida about 5 yrs ago and only come back maybe twice a year.
We were asked if we would mow and watch it until he decided if he wanted to sale or rent it. Well to date they haven't tried to do either. DH said we weren't pulling weeds over there anymore he is going to start weedwacking everything.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Thats funny. The idiot that lives across the street from us and trys to scare all the birds in the neighborhood away. And has demanded that we cut down our trees to keep the birds from roosting in them. Anyway, he has given up and is trying to sell his place so he can move back to Florida. We will be happy to see him gone. Hopefully who ever buys that place will like birds and flowers. All he has there is grass.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

We didn't mind the first couple years but gas gets pretty expensive after a while not to mention the time it takes to mow and pull weeds.

Delhi, LA

I loved both sets of lilys Kassy.

JJ yours is pretty, too.

We only have one lily similar to those but it doesn't get that tall. We do have a bunch of Tiger Lilys that are just starting to bloom. Got a little white bug that loves those things. Doesn't get on anything else.

On the lawn mowing, being a good neighbor is one thing but being taken advantage of is something else. I put him a price on mowing by the month or tell him to hire someone else.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

That's what is going to happen Jim. Enough is enough.
If I get a vote it will be someone else's job..

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kassy, that is a beautiful huge yellow lily! And very pretty cala lilly.

JJ, that is a beautiful lily! Love the colors. The tall yellow daylily you sent me started to open tonight. The long petals are pretty.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I love calla lilys. Reminds me of Katharine Hepburn: the calla lilys are in bloom again dahling

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

JJ, before you give up the lawn mowing, make that lily dissapear. Just tell him it died off. LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Kassy love the lillys and the cayla lilly especially, I know you don't grow it outside, way too cold of winters. What is this? I forgot. JJ yours are beautiful too.

Don't know what that is Flowers but it's pretty.

Consider it done Kassy. I'll try to keep it from the weed wacker til fall.
There use to be a pink one like it there too, it must have died because it's not there this year.lol

(Zone 5b)

Flowers try plant ID forum for that yellow one.
Kassy those are so pretty!
I'm with Jim on the mowing.

Delhi, LA

I looked at the flower picture but don't think I've ever seen one like it.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I'm busy posting my weeds on another forem Lynnie LOL Think Moon told me what that was at one time, just forgot.:-) Jim show us More!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

FYI that plant I posted is it seems a Lysimachia Punctata. Other names for it are spotted Loosestrife, Creeping Jenny, and Money Wort. Well now I have creeping Charlie and Creeping Jenny and Creeping Phylox in my yard, gonna have to get me a gun LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Waaaaaaah why do I have to be the last one to post??? Nobody likes me gonna eat a worm!!!! LOL Where did ya go??? Me want more pictures and stories!!!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Hey Jim, want to see another Hydrangea LOL Got a purple one, never saw that before! Those gas bottles are for the gas fireplace logs, can find them everywhere here.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

FlowerPuff, pink & blue make purple!!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I like the purple Puff.

Delhi, LA

I like the purple hydrania. Jo has mentioned that she would like to have one, so might try to change colors on one next year.

Email me one of those propane bottles. They are extinct here. I wanted to put an infa-red heater in the greenhouse for heat. It will be a lot cheaper than running a bunch of electric heaters and losing power won't turn them off. We were right on the fringe of the ice storm that put our the lights in Ark. last year.

Don't think I have posted this one.

Pretty, ya know if you keep teasing us you have to share. :) lol

Delhi, LA

That is a photo of a brand new one that pirl sent me. Give me a couple of years to propagate and I'll glad to share. Here is another photo of a new one.

I was teasing but thats nice to know.
She sure had a lot of pretty ones she sent ya. Everytime I think I like that one best you throw another great on e at me. LOL

Delhi, LA

She sent me two boxes of DL's. I set out 157 and ran out of room and gave about 30 away to a widow in our neighborhood. So far I have seen about a dozen different day lilies. She had them sorted into seperate bags and I made sure I set out some from each bag. Dumb me didn't think to count the bags.

Here is another.

I'll post you one more. It is the first spider I ever had.

Jim you have enough there to start a daylilly farm. Those are wonderful! JJ has some awsome ones too.

You bet buddy, tanks in the mail LOL

Smiley read where if ground is part acidic and part not that you would get purple. Makes sense because those were on the other side of property. Plus they were pink when I first planted them, I really was wanting a pink one.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

That is a different colored one Jim. The spider ones are pretty but I'm partial to the ruffled ones. But I only have one or two of them

That is a beautiful DL. I really like the lines through the petals and the ruffled edge I have never seen one like that. Does it have a name or is it a NOID. None of mine have a name unless it is the black DL that Moon sent me.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I believe it is called Little grapette. It is actually a little more purple than the picture shows.
That's what the tag said anyway. I got it at a Lowes at the end of season so ya never know if the tags are right fir sure.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, that is a very pretty one!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

thanks Venice.
Jim I just buy what I like don't really care if it has a name on it or not.
Just something else to forget. LOL

Delhi, LA

I'm with you jj. Most of my day lilies I bought as seedlings years ago from an old chiropractor who bred DL's. Cost me $20 a hundred. The rest have been given to me. We did buy 2 a couple of years ago at "Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days." Paid $5 a piece for them.

Below is a picture of my latest pirl. The bloom wasn't relly good and my picture taking was worse.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow that was a great deal $20 a hundred.
If I buy one I will wait until the end of season and then usually they are just 2 to 3 bucks.

That one is pretty too. You have some really nice ones.
Here is another one I have.

Oh JJ,
Remember when you mentioned that you were glad that everyone was doing fine, except maybe son who is now home alone with MIL? LOL

Son has told my DIL that he just may have to go stay at his friend house until her mother leaves.........ROTFL

He talked to me about it the other night too. He said she is way to over protective. I try not to be around that much.
I know what he means though. I held Kirstie for the first time after she got out of the hospital, when she was a week old. MIL was out mowing the lawn (yes, we put her to work!), and DIL was trying to talk to the doctors office and Kirstie had woke up and was fussing, so I rocked her and put her to sleep. MIL came in and asked me if I wanted her to hold her. I just told her she was fine, she had fallen asleep.

Funny, we have lived together since we took care of my mom, about 10 years now. I haven't heard him say he was going to stay with his friend because I'm here.........LOL
But then, they never see much of me. I'm either at work, sleeping, or at BF's house. ^_^

Delhi, LA

That is a really pretty day lily. I am partial to yellow. The yellows really stand out in the yard. I have a few dark ones and I like them but I wouldn't want a yard full of them.

Old Dr. Gore was looking for a unique day lily when he bred. He wanted something different enough that he could sell to a major company to register under their own name and propagate. I've known of him getting up to $1500 for one DL. When he saw the blooms on his seedlings, he was through with them unless it had a bloom he wanted to save. If he couldn't sell them, he threw them away. I started out with 200. In the years we were out of our home we lost a couple of beds and a lot of really pretty colors.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Too funny Kassy. Must be time for MIL to go home. LOL
Can't believe you put her to work.LOL

Jim I can't imagine getting that kind of money for a flower, but I know some do.
I think alot of the reason I like them so much ..besides being pretty...is because they tend to take care of themselves.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Reminds me of that Dennis the Mennace movie where Mr. Wilson waited a whole year for his exquisite rare something to bloom. Had the whole town over to witness remember that one?

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL yes I do.
DENNIS!!! Yes Mr. Wilson hahaha
