Well, at more than 400 post, I guess it is time for a new thread!
Start showing us what you have blooming!
This is at my Brothers place in Washington. A beautiful pink rhododendron. I need to find one, and see if they will grow here.
They come in so many colors, white, pink, yellow, orange, red...
Shes about too... #50
Cannot believe this..A first for me.
Now will finish, lol had to be short on the top so I would be first.
Susan, thank you so much for the cuttings. sure hope they root. All your hanging baskets should make you proud.
Have worked outside just about all day and still have to go back and cut grass. Got so hot, think I was sweating bullets.
Isabella is about to! She's already beautiful. thank you Susan.
Debra, first on the new thread. Now you know that's exciting. LOL
OMG, that little thing blooming how cute is that! Bet you are proud as punch!
I have tried rhodes several times. A lady about 4 miles from me must have 10 of them facing the north on the front of her house that are beautiful! But doesn't work for me.
Oh Isabella is so pretty! I have a huge bud on Elizabeth. worked on the city of derbys' water fall pond area pulling weeds.. I think I am going to plant one of my noid brugs there.. what do you think?
Knockout containers there, Debra.
This might be a re-run but here's my neighbor's Rhodo last month. They really should be our state flower instead of the Dogwood and are absolutely beautiful growing wild around the lake and up on the Blue Ridge Parkway with Mountain Laurel.
Faye, Isabella is growing up to be a beauty!
Debra, those pots are amazing! You also have the knack. Wish I could get mine to look half that nice!
FOTV, love those rhodes..... Hey, guess what I found in DH's desk. A P-Touch PT-12, it is older than yours. It doesn't say thermal on it tho...so it gives me some concern. Decisions decisions.....
You guys it is pouring here, I mean there is so much water running off our property it looks like a river. I just need to keep remembering sun tomorrow, sun tomorrow........
DH is watching a war movie on tv.....a really old war movie....so I am playing.
I knocked the bud off of Elizabeth when i was moving her.. * sniff* it was the size of a nice okra, durn it. Why can't I just leave things alone? Oh well she has a bunch of tiny ones. now I have her where I can watch her.
Have you ever grown something from seed, watch it form, watch it grow and then lose the plant somewhere? I have been going crazy looking for a plant I grew from seed, a really nice caudex glory. It is driving me nutz, I hope I didn't send it away somewhere //
Debra, funny you mention that, I am looking for 2 different iris's (6 fans) that I bought at the iris farm and darn if I can figure out where they are......makes you crazy doesn't it. Did you get any of this rain!
Fory any one who cares there is a hosta swap on the hosta forum. Just swapping one hosta.
I think I am done with swaps for awhile. The hat swap in cubits is the last one for this year for me. Anyway, I have looked everywhere for that thing, it was four inches tall with three leaves, and I have ended up cleaning everywhere I work. We had gully washing rain yesterday, and my pond that was empty with new cement was almost full. I don't think I will be filling it up that much if it gets that much water from run off of the patio and garden. I have to figure out how to keep that from happening, short of digging it up. This ischerub from a swap with X, and it was just a root ball a month ago. it Is under the pear tree. I has shot up two plants.
Once they start growing, you can't stop them! They grow so fast!
Debra, I bought two packages of mg seeds for my Mom Star o Yelta, purple with pink center and a pinkish stripe, and then pink star kind of the opposite. So tonight I am stopping and we are going to get her planter ready to plant and hang.
It rained so hard last night it did in all the iris and peonies. They managed to make it thru all this wind and rain for weeks, but last night was something else! Still no sun, but they are promising this afternoon.
Joyce, Didn't I send you or give you any mg seeds? If not then I will send some your mom will love as well as the ones you got.
ahhhhhh.. able to load this page easily.
Thanks LK.
Debra, Your awesome package came this morning. Everything arrived in great shape and I'm thrilled. Geez, that Sweet Autumn Clematis you sent is huge. Thank you so much for the extras too!
It's rained off and on all day here, looks like tomorrow will be pretty much the same. I drove to my friend's house this afternoon (the one who grows monster Hens & Chicks). Next time I'll take my camera so you can see them. I took her a few plants I'd rooted from cuttings and came home with a bin full of hers and had fun even if we did have to dodge the rain. One is definitely in the Mint family, has square stems & purple leaves and was growing everywhere in the old veggie garden she had last year. Another bunch she gave me have small lacy purple blooms atop 3' stems that have fine silver gray foliage. They remind me of Chicory but it's too early here for them. She's the World's worst for tagging plants, doesn't give a hoot about names and always has beautiful gardens. Anywho, I can home with a tub full of plants, including what I believe are rooted Forsythia. My favorite she shared were several Yellow perennials that may be Primroses. Except mine are in clumps and hers were individual plants. And there was a lone miniature pinky purple Hollyhock growing in her ditch I dug up. That's what I call a good day, named plants or not.
Edited to say, I'm potting these tomorrow if our weather permits and will take take pics in case some of you can ID them. I'll be glad to share with any of you.

I am glad the plants arrived okay. Be sure to put that clematis where you want it to stay. I cut mine back all the time, but if you dont catch the seeds, they will spread all over the place. Sounds like you might have gotten some monardas or bee balm from your friend, or even some cool basils. they all have square stems.
Dang Debra, you may have sent me seeds I need to check now that you said that. I didn't have any choice but to buy some seeds cause when my Mom gets fixed on something there is a time limit set and it is NOW.....LOL but that is ok.
Our sale yesterday was amazing. We had crowds up until 1pm then things fell off and we stopped at 2pm. Don't want to complain about the heat, but going from 40's to 87 and really really windy (gust up to 30 miles an hour) we were fried, hot, and tired (been going since 4:30am that morning). We had a ton of plants sold and not alot left. The left overs we take to our next meeting and members just take what they want. So I think this summer I will continue to take starts and over winter in the pots like I did last year, that really worked out well for me.
Cloudy today so far, haven't seen the forecast but I didn't think we were going to have rain.
FOTV, only problem I have with NOID is how bad they spread. Some of our mg's have some pretty invasive plants, but at least if you can see them in the garden then you know. Other wise I could care less about id's except most people on DG want names.
Look real close, there is a juvy robin standing on the hammock. They crack me up cause they look like most teenagers waiting on their parents, just complete ticked off...LOL Sorry it isn't a great pic, but between dirty windows (way too much rain, least that is the excuse now) and old camera....and poor photographer.
Did you forget the picture?
Is anyone having problems with Sprint today? Both of our cell phones say there is no service!
Hummmm, guess I did forget the picture. I have verizon taters so I don't know.
FOTV, I didn't get the ee out and wrestle him to the ground, way to windy, need a calmer day especially since he hasn't been outside yet. My little hairy fernies have little cow licks sticking up all over the place so they must be happy....LOL Oh I almost forgot for the 90th time, I got the agastache and they are getting a drink. DH forgot to tell me yesterday and I think they left the box in the mail box, but they look lovely, I just stuck them in some water so they could get a good drink and then put them in a temp pot until I get them planted.
Planted lilies, iris, dahlias, daylilies, weeded, started a new bed, moved roses, made messes, and even cleaned up a couple and boy do I feel it! Oh yeah a picked a munch of strawberries and they are sooo sweet. I'm telling you these plants love this rain we have had..... I am still so far behind.
Our cell phones are Verizon too, LK. Sprint may be just upgrading towers in your area, I hope that's all it is.
The harder we go, the behinder we get, happ. Man you were busy today. And shoot, I forgot to take a pic of the "Hairy" Alliums...lol
Here's the mystery plants my girlfriend gave me yesterday. Debra, if the purple ones are Basil, that makes perfect sense since they're growing like gangbusters in her old veggie garden......literally everywhere. I guess that's why she thought they were cool groundcovers. After comparing the leaves and blooms of the Yellow one with a Primrose I have, I think it's a match, just a different one I have with smaller blooms. Still not sure though? And I have no clue about the Purple flowers with fine lacy foliage on the plants that are about 3' tall. Can anybody clue me in on any of these?
Debra, thank you bunches for all the seeds you sent me. I will add your name to the tag and always have you here in my garden. I am planting most of the seeds along the fence, and some at the mailbox arbor. If I have plants that you would like cuttings, just let me know. Will be glad to share.
Thank you so much.
Faye
Susan, i do not know the name of the purple leaf plant but it will take over. I had a hard time getting rid of it.
Thank you, Faye. I planted them in holding pots this morning. I have a few more containers to plant and they may very well end up in them to be on the safe side. How's Ray doing?
Here's another Gazania that opened today in the hanging basket at our mailbox. Thank you very much, Debra, too for the Gazania seeds. I think I've found a place for the Sweet Autumn Clematis. Hubby just needs to shore up the arbor and attach it with U-bolts to our outbuilding. In the meantime, it's in a holding pot too and is doing well.
Susan, Ray is doing good. It's only been 2 weeks since his surgery, and he doesn't take pain pills at all, hasn't in over a week. Foot hurts and burns but that is to be expected. Friday I hooked the trailer to the lawn mower, drove to the ramp in front, Ray used his scooter to get down the ramp, then he sat on back of the trailer, I put his scooter on the trailer with him and I took him to the back yard where there is another cement patio with chairs and swing. we stayed out until dark. This morning I got Ray back on the trailer and took him back into the back yard to the patio at the house and we had coffee.
Wish you could have seen the smile on his face when he realized together, we could get him outside. I think by getting him out, it will help keep depression from taking over.
Another beautiful bloom, and another I've never heard of. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
AYF, Faye
tha purple plant is beefsteak perilla, I have it everywhere,it spreads like wild fire, and has beautiful racimes like a salvia/sage and the honey bees love it. It is not the poisoness kind, there was discussion of it when I posted it to Plant id last year, I have used mine in salads and I aint dead yet. Tonight I just put in a whole flower bed in my sis in laws house, yesterday helped with my other sis in laws, and then last nite my sons flower bed, went to the movies, ate popcorn and drank Mug rootbeer, went back home and played outside. Been trying to get the *%$#$@ pond form ready for the fish and water plants again, and in between been potting up strays and over seedlings, cleaning out flower beds and planting more seeds. Packed up two boxes of stuff to texas, managed to get the summer clothes out of the cedar chest, cleaned up all the messes I made, My back hurts. My ears are clanging and ringing like crazy and my elbow hurts, so time for tylenol and bed. It has been a good four days off.. Oh yeal, my sis in law and I went to Hongs since I have never been there , and I wasn't impressed. ( a Oriental Nurseryand landscaper. ) Tropicmans place puts every other place to shame when it comes to good green and unusual for our state.
You all have been so industrious. We've had over 3 inches of rain in the last couple of days and I haven't been able to do anything but sit and watch it pour.
I'm grumpy and grouchy and have a case of the "leave me alones." :0)
Debra, you have been a planting crazy woman! LOL! I would have more hurting than just my elbow! Lordy girl!
FOTV....hand waving hand waving I know the answer I know the answer to the yellow flower, it is a Missouri Primrose (yellow). Read all about it http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Plant.asp?code=E390
I have them in my flower beds and they do spread but not like alot of other things, not like creeping jenny or something like that. They like heat and put on these wierd seed heads. They are really low growing. Don't put them with marigolds cause the colors clash something awful, it is a true lemon yellow color.
rvnsbrk, I can sympathize with the rain problem. No fun in the spring and summer if you can't go out and play on days on end! This is our 2 day of sunshine. Still strange we had the furnace on Wednesday in the high 40's and now 90's and air conditioning. Because of all the rain the humidity is sky rocketing. We have summers like GA......
On commerical breaks last night I started dragging things back out of the solar room to get them use to the sun and wind again.....and I even had to water, which has been a first all spring this year.
Morning everyone! I think the bottom right plant is a coleus? If it is, they root real easy.
G'morning everyone. I'm having puter problems so if I get missing that is the reason. Puter doesn't want to boot up, then when it finally gets up and I leave it for 20 min., the monitor goes to sleep like it's programed to do, but then it doesn't want to wake up. I called HP last night and had a technician work with me for over an hr. Suddenly he asked to let him call me back in 15 or 20 min. He never called back and did nothing about helping me. What he had me do was change my monitor from sleep mode after 20 min. of inactivity to never sleep. I asked him how did he think that fixed the problem? LOL soon he left me! Anyway this morning it took 17 min. for the monitor to come on. I called HP again and was told that since my computer is 4 yrs old, ( will be 4 in Nov) that it would cost me about $400. for them to check it over to find out the problem, thennnnnnnn I would have to pay for what ever replacement parts necessary to fix it. Have ordered a new desktop, but will be sometimes in June before it arrives.
Hugs to all.
Hey Debra and Joyce, thank you for ID'ing the mystery plants. I'd thought about Coleus too, LK, since they have square stems. You're in a much warmer climate than I am and they must flourish for you year round. That must be nice! One night around here @ 32 degrees kills them dead as a doornail.
Faye, my HP desktop is almost 5 years old and I've gone through the same gyration with HP's supposed "support" service, never got any decent help either and the guy did the same thing to me. We must have been on the phone for an 1-1/2 hours, then he cut me short too and never bothered to call back. Not knowing what my problem(s) might be, I decided to take my hard drive and monitor to a guy who has been repairing PC's and laptops locally for over 20 years and has an impeccable reputation. Maybe you have someone there like that too? He replaced the battery-driven fan, a $15 part, and replaced the video card that was going bad with a new one for $75 plus a minimal charge for labor. That was two years ago and knock on wood, I haven't had any problems since.
Here's my first Daylily bloom yesterday. It's a NOID dwarf seedling that has a teeny tiny bloom but and I was tickled to see it.
Wish we could have them growing year round. Most of us that had taken cuttings, lost them too, so were all on the look out for more coleus.
Shoot, LK, I really thought you'd be able to grow them year-round. Guess you know what that makes me for assuming you could...lol
It made me sick when I lost the cuttings from my plants and many others several of you shared with me. Look how pretty they were on Christmas Day. Then I got the bright idea about a week later, from being bored out of my mind stuck inside, to take more cuttings. I know those plants were large enough to divide and I always bottom watered them in their binds. I thought by this time of year I'd have a nice crop with plenty to share back and still have no idea why I lost every one of them.
That's definitely IT, Debra. When we were dodging the rain and pulling them up, I scrunched the leaves, took a deep whiff and held the bunch out to my girlfriend for her to take a sniff. She commented they ought to be good enough to eat in a salad or would make a minty mouthwash.
