Shes about too... #49

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Wow, would love to have that pile of mulch...LOL
Since gardening is my passion my wonderful DH knows how to make me smile.

Here is my picture of my winter bed. I bought bunches of perennials for little of nothing at the end of the year and I thought it was too late to plant them so I put them to bed. I piled bags of mulch two and three high under the pine trees. Put the pots in the middle and piled mulch on top. Every thing made it thru the winter with flying colors. This will be my new plan from now on, I bought lilies, daylilies, iris, you name it, for 2.00 or less, or yeah a butterfly bush. I was so happy to see them all alive and growing.

Hope everyone had a great day.

I didn't hear anything about an earthquake.....seems to be alot of those going on but maybe they are just reporting more of them.....you never know.

I will be so glad when I can put things outside permanently.

We had a quick thundershower come thru, but mostly the weather was beautiful.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I spent the weekend outside for a change, well up and down the stairs carrying heavy pots, and stuff. I have a compost pile outback and had to turn it. I am still filling the old brown canvass leaf bag.. I have used all the shredded and ground wood chips from two years ago when they took down the big 57 yr old Honey locust from my back yard. Hubby planted potatoes, yukon golds, shallots and onions. I planted asparagas green beans, green onions, peas, lettuce and spinach so far, transplanted my baby tomatoes around , cleaned out three more flower beds. what a mess! I lifted the cinder block I had Jean Pasko brug in, I had cut her at the base and brought the stem in with a few roots, and left the rest of her out in that thing, next to the dryer vent, covered with leaves and woodchips and mulch, I moved it out and upended it, and the roots were firm and white. she is now next to the new pond hubby sank last weekend, still in the cinderblock. I planted a cherub bottom under the pear tree. I transplanted about 8 more brugs I had rooted . I planted about 25 different kinds of flower seeds . My hands are a mess, the basement is a mess, I can't sleep for dreaming flower blooms to come.

I did buy a 25.00 bottle of some OTC stuff. I hope it works, but I still am ringing and chiming and the loudest is the "frequency whine" like a radio from the old days. Oh well.. This is a mess here.. but it will look totally different in a month..

I was talking to my son in Calif when he said he had just felt the quake. He was outside sitting on a brick wall and he said the wall moved quite alot. I heard him yell to his in laws that they'd just had a quake. Will have to talk to him today to see how everyone fared.

Happy Easter Girls!

I've been on eBay since 2000 and used to do really well selling til 9/11. Then there was long lull. Every now and then I still list but it's been a while. hmmm.....that gives me an idea about some great "stuff" I've accumulated too. There's this thing called gardening I seem to eat, sleep and drink in anymore.

That's me exactly Fruity. I made a great living selling my sculptures, beads and other artsy stuff. 9/11 ended that and sent me to the next phase of life.

You all were very busy this weekend. I did a lot of cleaning up on Saturday. Still have a lot more to do. Dh decided that I needed to go out yesterday instead of working so he took me to a couple of nurseries where I exercised tremendous control and only got a few veggie things and a miniature rose. Have a string of medical appointments today and I hope to get home in time to plant the lettuces and fennel etc. that I got.

Have a Happy Monday All!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

OK, you know it is a bad morning when your "OLD" electronic alarm clock sets itself for the "OLD" daylight savings time this weekend and you didn't notice it. So instead of getting up at 4:30am you get up at 3:30am and get to work way way early!!!! ROFL. When I went to bed last night I thought to myself OMG is it that late already! (Cause the clock had jumped forward another hour, so instead of 10:30 it said 11:30!) I didn't notice the time difference until I looked at the clock in the car and really thought about what it said.....which was 1/2 way to work....funny thing I didn't feel tired this morning...LOL

Debra, you make me feel like a slug....LOL Wowzer, did you go crazy! Good girl, it has to feel great to get so much done. Course your body may be talking to you today. I can't imagine ringing in your ears, I can't imagine how distrubing that would be....

Marti, that must of been something talking to him while the earthquate was happening.....that is something I can't imagine either. The earth moving under you...scary.

FOTV/rvnsbrk - did you guys stop selling or did the market on ebay just never came back? My DH worked for the airlines during that time and no one was flying at all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Funny you should mention time change. I sat down at my comoputer last night, and for some reason, the time in the computer jumped back 2 hours! It was 9:30, but computer said 7:30? I have it changed now, but don't know why it did that!

Hope everyone had a great week-end?

Debra, looks like you were very busy! What did you have planted right up against the house?

Things on eBay didn't rebound in the areas that I was selling in. The fees kept going up and everything kept getting more and more sophisticated from the way it originally started. I went several years and never listed anything. That was a shock when I had been listing auctions almost everyday. A lot of the things that I was doing (fused glass, silversmithing, handmade glass beads, polymer clay work etc.) all got to be very prevalent out there and most were made in India or China. No way can we compete with that kind of labor. Folks in India could sell a sterling silver ring with a semi precious stone for 15.00 for instance. It wasn't worth that to me to light my torch. I only got back on e bay recently when I had to clear out my MIL's estate. The model train collectors still have money they are willing to part with, so that did OK, but the regular antique kinds of things didn't do all that well. In fact I still have a huge Rubbermaid container of good collectible stuff that I need to sell. Maybe this coming winter again...

Will someone please turn down the heat? I had to run my airconditioner when I came home today. I don't need summertime heat just yet. Mind you, I'm not complaining, it just seems like I went from 2 feet of snow to August. :0)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Same here Juanita, it went from 30 to 80 over night!
I used to sell on ebay also, but with all the changes, and fee's, it just isn't worth it anymore.
Like our flea market here, everything is brand new, and at new prices! No more junk to pick through, so we quilt going to that also!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

I hear you LK. I love looking through the "junk". Sometimes one little thing that is special can make the day!

LOL, happ how hilarious. I've done that too. Wondered what was going on when I got to work with the Sun barely up and the parking lot almost vacant. Looks like you were the Early bird that got the worm, or at least the first cup of fresh coffee.

Geez, Debra, what a load of work! What else are you planning to do when your back recovers?

99% of what I've sold on eBay is collectible glass. I had a great customer following for years and made many friends, even met several at a Convention in San Antonio. Those were the good ole days. The fun stopped when fees kept going up every few months, and still do. In 2003 we bought a camper and I started traveling with DH and his work til we eventually landed home for good in October 2008. It was too stressful thinking a piece or two of valuable glass would get dinged or broken while the camper was in transit, not to mention the dilemma of where to store packing materials. Don't have those issues now and really need to start listing some of my better pieces again, despite the fees. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and take what you get.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I was just curious about the ebay thing. DH buys and sells on ebay, but to a very limited market, so I was just wondering.
I have purchased a few things and just sold a couple of things, but I was surprised on video games, seems to be no limit on what gamers will buy.

DH got up "bright" and early....LOL He was up working on his laptop when he released he had gotten up at 6:30am....LOL

Way too windy tonight to do anything in the garden. The temps shot up here also. Sure makes you realize it isn't sunshine that warms you up but the winds.....cause I don't think in a day I was any closer to the sun....LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

up against the house?? LOL uhm which side, front or back? here is one small area looking south, on the northwest side of the house. (last year) I can't stand to waste not even one inch of planting space.. can you tell?

Awesome Fruity!! I've been seeing small butterflies up here, but no swallowtails yet.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love that picture, you need to save that one for the photo contest, later this year!

I planted a bunch of seeds last week, and this is what I have so far. Lots of morning glories, sweet peas, birdhouse gourds, and speckled swan gourds! A pretty good start for my front fence area.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

fotv, that is a beautiful picture....OM....

Linda Kay, what a pretty fence you will have. I am guessing you make bird houses out of the bh gourd? I have seen those at the farmers market. What about the swan gourd?

I don't have a fence, but I have an small tree about 5 foot tall with nice brances at the top that died and I cut it off at ground level, took it over to the gardenroom and nailed it to the post and grow vines up it. Some day I tell myself I am going to make a "tree" out of rebar, cause then it would be permanent. Course I have a l..o...n...g list of things I am going to do....rofl....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have not made house out of them, this is my first time growing gourds. Just something to grow on the fence. If I have lots of gours, I will offer them here. I will try to make one, but I am not a painter, so they will be plain ones! Maybe some stain?
Sounds like we all have a ling list of things to do!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

To do and want to do and do do are 3 different lists at my house....rofl

I had a friend who took some kind of gourd and used I think must of been a wood burning tool on the outside of it? It was beautiful. She also punched holes along the top of one and sewed what I am guessing is pine needles around the top. I set potted plants in that one.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That sounds pretty!
Pictures please?

LOL You sure we're not neighbors?

Looking good, LK :)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rofl....FOTV, Maybe we were twins seperated at birth, except I was born years before you....LOL

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

The part that made me ROLF was the "do do" list! I know exactly what you mean and will turn 52 Friday. We can't be too far apart, although that twin theory of yours is interesting and gave me another good chuckle!

What another miserably hot day in the mid-90's again. At least I'm not complaining about humidity yet, that'll come in July when we can't breathe outside. I watered pots and trays, started several more flats of seeds, planted Lilies, made at least 20 trips up and down the stairs taking houseplants out to the screened porch, repotted a bunch of them which isn't a chore but a pleasure to actually see which have multiplied, relocated a concrete birdbath, and refilled the hummer feeders.....still haven't seen any but I'm ready. Then hubby wanted to take a leisurely drive in one of his antique cars. The dang fuel pump went out at the end of our driveway. He has no back and mine's not much better. So we had to enlist the help of an18 year-old neighbor push that sucker 110' back into the garage. Thank goodness we hadn't actually left home or we would have been on the road and would have had a tow truck bill. We've watched this guy grow up from a snotty nose baby to such a well-rounded, handsome, polite kid. It's a shame I'm not a teenager anymore or he'd definitely be #1 on my Top 10 Most Wanted. ;-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What kind of cars does he have. My hubby collect's old cars too, but more hotrod type. He has a 68, and a 72 corvette, a 57 chevy sedan delivery, a 59 and 69 el camino, a 49 ford. Most are project cars, that keep him busy on the week-ends, but his favorite one is the 59 el camino!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Fruity I knew you were older than me. Even if it is only 6 months. :))))

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

fotv, I am 8 years older than you. I have figured out tho that you do start wishing for that magical birthday you know 16, 18, 21, 62....rofl....don't want to be older but sure would like to have that check....lol

Mid 90's temp huh...well good old Missouri did a frost last night at my house. I had no idea it would get that cold so I am out in pj's at 10:15 with sheets draping things that I had taken out of the garden room, I had toyed with the idea of taking some tropicals out and I am glad I didn't do that....dag nab it I knew it would do that. We had 30 mile an hour winds all week except the night it gets cold and so it is calmmmmmmm. Better to frost you with my dear!

Linda Kay, FOTV, my dh has had an old 62 stepside truck he redid, it was an old green truck when we bought it in 1982 and we drove it to move me in his house, haul bricks, move to our new house and just general stuff before being parked for 10 years. Then he took it and restored it, painted black and looks better than new, lowered in front a little and shiney wheels.... but FOTV I can identify with breaking down in it, nothing worse than a black truck broken down along the highway in August with 100 degree weather...ughh We use to have a 38 chevy but he sold that. He would like to have a 40 ford but too cheap to pay the price... My dh has sooo many projects, kind of like me..., when we get done with the projects providing we don't add anything new to the list, I figure we will be about 150 years old... :D

I did come up with a way by the end of the summer so I don't feel so bad about my list I didn't get accomplished, I just start taking things off.....I put them on there and I can take them off...dh just shakes his head and says I use the same logic with the clocks....I set them all fast, I know they are fast but it does help me to stay on time, I hate to be late.

Hey everyone have a great day!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

FOTV, I got the most amazing box of caladiums today....they are beautiful, I am so excited.
I will get them planted this weekend. I need to get my others started so they will be pretty after it warms up around here.

Just got home, so only have time to leave a short note.
I am sooo happy. I will get the ee's ready and in the mail to you, next week.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I had to put pillow cases on the things I wanted to protect, I have a huge pile of pillow cases of flannel and sheets for covering up my In A HUrry For Spring ..
everything came out fine.. even the babies that came up are okay.. yay!

COME ON EVERYONE SING ALONG WITH ME

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra, I wondered about you and frost, I talked to people in OKC and they said it was 36 way down there..... hopefully this is the last. Glad all your new little starts made it. Awful with all the work and lose them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Gals :)

LOL happ. Wonder what I did with those psychedelic T's, bell-bottoms & platform shoes? Hey, glad you got your Caladiums. A few of mine just planted Sunday are already peeking out.
LK, hubby restores Early Ford Broncos (1966-1977). I think his blood is even Ford blue...lol
Debra, glad your babies made it. I may have to pull out blankets this afternoon, just schlepped a bunch of houseplants outside and have a bunch of tender seedlings I'd hate to lose with tonight's temps going down to the upper-30's.

What awful storms last night with a couple of possible tornados followed by overnight temps in the 40's. It's crazy weather around here but's hey that April.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

FOTV, hope you have a great day. Got home and received another wonderful box of goodies, that tulip bloom is amazing!
OK, you are going from 90 to 40, wowzer I thought Missouri was bad. I know tornadoes are possible in every state, but they aren't too common in your area are they?

Debra, Saturday I am going to try to keep up with you, moving everything out....I think it might be ok to start, the forecast not that I believe them isn't too bad. Caladiums and coleus I will leave in, everything else I think will be ok. The winds are bad up here, but there is not stopping that.

Linda Kay, are you roasting down there?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Not today! It nice and cool, all of 73 today! It feels nice.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

A breath of fresh air huh?
Really windy here.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Happy Birthday Susan, you and my Mom have the same day!

I spent all night hauling out more pots, tubs, trays etc. I just want it out so I can arrange it.. my hubby sank that little pond form and I have it feilled with water, and a pump and chemicals in it now. I heard I was getting a fish for my BD. we will see.

College girl helped me with the big stuff... she brought me home some japanese food and two pretty pots.. such a sweetie. she had been sick and we went to the dr, she has been tested and diagnosed with a bad case of shingles at 21.. she cried her eyes out last nite, but is doing okay now. I had no clue kids that young could get that stuff. Dr said it was from her chicken pox when she was little. I told her to quit bawling and get off her pity pot it could be worse. I am behind on mailings and behind on a story and behind on housework and have to go to wok this am. The basement Garden still looks full, good grief!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, sorry to hear she has shingles. They are very painfull! Glad she went to the doc.
Don't work too hard today!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Anyone who has ever had Chicken Pox can get shingles. Darn!!

Well, I'm off to go fishing. Worked in the garden this morning and early afternoon. Now I get a reward by getting to go fishing. Going to try a new area. Have to remember to take my camera.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

We were just out walking around the edge of the yard and saw these. I can't believe we've lived here 23 years and I didn't notice these before.

Native Paw Paw trees!!
