What have you ordered 2010 #5

Thomaston, CT

That's the schedule I use, too, Pat. Happy to say I found at least one spuria iris up & looking good.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

easy except for the jm's - they take special care because the growers have them sheltered over the winter and they are not use to spring and sun.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I think my Jmaples got toasted by both the wind and sun last spring, plus I was not very attentive. I will be this year.

Thanks for the planting thoughts. I think most of my shrubs can go in when they arrive, as can the perennials that seem like they have been hardened off or grown in the colder climates. Patti

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I think it would be good for hardy stuff to get in as early as the ground is good for it. The extra rain they get during the cool spring weather will help them establish a good root system before the hot and dry weatehr kicks in. And all of us in New England know that we never can tell what the weather here will be! Sometimes we have heat waves and drought as early as June. Patti is your last frost date earlier than here? I'm the same as Victor even though I think sometimes I will plant certan things before Memorial Day, usually I am not ready to plant things until June. Last year I started Hollyhocks from seed indoors in February and planted them out sometime in April and they bloomed just as tall and heavily as plants I've seen self seeded in a garden. It surprised me that it worked. That short amount of cold they got in April tricked them into blooming the same year. : )

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

cool

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ive been planting lilies.
Grand Crue and Pollyanna go in this morning as soon as its light enough to see.

Hallowell, ME

I planted 8 hostas yesterday. Will plant peas later on today. Received clematis, jacobs ladder, centranthus, and golden chain tree yesterday (wife's order). Probably plant them today too. I wait until Memorial Day to plant veggie garden. Iris are breaking ground as is salvia and cat mint, heuchera, columbine, phlox. Jm's are starting to bud as is willow and lilacs. Probably get a good hard frost now and lose the lot.

Thomaston, CT

I'm sure they be fine...plants are usually pretty cold hardy...Gee, JoAnn...you are up early today!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

everyday.. JoAnn makes me look like a lazy butt!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I had a "artists bread and butter " job for 13 years. I had to get up at 4 so my body just does it automatically.I dont mind the hour in the summer. The sun rises at 5:30.The winter is awful no daylite until 8 almost.

South Hamilton, MA

No planting here; weeding instead.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Meridith, I had the apricot cosmos 2 years ago from Annie's and it was a beauty although it didn't bloom until mid October. Frost got most of it, I have a few seeds I am going to try this year. I traded some and they didn't come true, turned pink. I guess Annie does cuttings. Great stuff she has but shipping is ridiculous I agree, out of my budget this year!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks for sharing! I am glad to hear they were pretty, but that stinks they don't bloom until that late. We get frost about that time of year, so I probably wouldn't get to enjoy them.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Been transplanting annual seedlings all day, about 735, (Yes Allison, 222 of those were Sweet Cream Marigolds),and up sizing plugs, about 70. Now I can catch my breath, and plant some more seeds before up sizing almost 700 plugs.I really need my greenhouse. Also got my pieris planted, cleaned up in front of the veggie garden, and helped Holly with some litter from the beds she worked on. Ric

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I forgot to post what we picked up Sat. from Hobby Greenhouse Assoc..
Last year we got them a month earlier so the plants were smaller and some of what we got this year weren't available yet last year. I was really pleased to see the size of them. Here is the list
Bacopa White 32 cells
Heather Mexican 32cells
Begonias (Dwarf 6") 87plugs
Impatiens 174 Plugs
Lobelia 174 Plugs

Pansies 72 plants
Pentas 9 pots
Lantana 9 pots
Coleus 87 plugs
Alyssum Mixed 1/2 flat seedlings
Marigold Discovery & Sweet Cream 1/2 and 1/3 flat seedlings
This ought to keep me busy for a day or 3. LOL Ric

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

wow!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm really loving this weeding tool.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that looks nice Victor.. I have this one... wish I would have gotten the long handle one though.. it's great for chick weed and the strawberry looking stuff that roots as it goes.. and any of those shallow rooted ground covering weeds

http://www.circlehoe.com/garden_hoe_HC10.html

yours looks good for the tap rooted ones... I have one that looks like a small bbq fork for those

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a long handled one for that. You just go back and forth in small motions and it cuts all shallow rooted weeds very well.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Here is mine I use it for everything. Weeding, planting & cutting sod. I don't see how I did without it. It is scooped enough that it can move some dirt. It has a serrated blade on one side that cuts right through sod. String or vine cutter on the other side. It is measured for bulb planting. And the V in the tip is great for getting those long rooted weeds. HOLLY

Cool. Hope Ric doesn't cook with it! ^_^

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I long to see the back of my CRV looking like that.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have one like yours ric from gardeners edge that i use more for bulb planting - posted about it last fall i think - for weeding i still use the long thin tool with a sharp V at the end - works better for me and i can get deeper into the soil to get those tap roots.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Wha I bought a "grampas" weeder from Lee Valley and its the bomb.
Very long handel(no bending) and 3 finger prongs that poke into the middle of the weed. There is a foot lever that pulls out the weed when stepped on.
I love it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

that does sound nice joann - i have visions of lots of weeds that will come up from the new dirt that is coming - the only way to get it all is to get down on your hands and knees and get after them

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OMG yes. I have a stacys type weed that came with GF 's compost. It grows all winter. We also put down hores manuer. Oats anyone?

Thomaston, CT

My garden is full of some little weed blooming now with tiny white flowers..some kind of hairy cress I think...very annoying! I noticed angel wing begonia, Ric....am thinking of planting my welhouse garden with that & cosmos.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have that weed too. Awful when it gets into a perennial.
Is everybody still eating jellybeans?
My potted lilies are comming out for the season.

If the white flowered plant shoots its seeds when you try I pullit--it is shepards purse. Sours the soil, we keep pulling it out, put it separate buckets so it will not come back in the compost,

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Received 4 clems from Debbie and some JM's from Wildwood a bit ago. Have not opened them yet. Of course on the hottest day!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

debbie wanted to send mine next monday and i told her to hold off a week - will tell her to go ahead now since i will be done with the bed tomorrow.

Thomaston, CT

Thanks, Iris...I have that weed, too! Went to Lowes for rebars & ended up with a Lithodora & pink heather.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hee hee he, sounds like me Robin!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The weather is cooling off. Its been raining for the past few days. Today we expect Tstorms. Guess the lily bulbs will have to wait.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)
