What have you ordered 2010 #5

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

btw - i was pretty happy with the eflower order - day lilies where large, hosta had very big root system, and the one mini hosta order was a good size too (one of the four was pretty small).

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

SongsofJoy, you will love your Rosy Dawn order...what are you getting?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lots of goodies already arriving Bill. Sounds lovely.
I will be anxious to hear how those ground covers look when they arrive. That is a new company for me and it is a nice list of plants you selected. Sounds like a lot of planting but it will be very nice when it starts to cover your slope.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Sounds like the flood gates are opening. Lots to plant for everyone. Especially for SOJ. Lot of ground cover. It will look wonderful. Patti

I have these coming soon along with eflower DL, Hosta, Lilies and too many other things to think about.

yes they are - just decided to write them all down with where they will be planted - lots of unknown right now.

Thomaston, CT

I needed to get some stuff at Walmarts today....walked in & they were remodeling the whole store...what a mess. They didn't touch the nursery dept. however, & I found peace there, along with per. pink geraniums "Guiseppi", lavender viola, & small, purple pansies. Here they are....

I received my hosta mix from Van Bourgein (?) (8). No idea what varieties but I wanted a mix to fill in a new shade bed. Have some painted ferns and epimediums coming too for the same area. Hostas are setting in water now until I can plant them later this week after all the rain.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

How do the Van Bourgundien plants look?

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

For Luvsgrtdanes – my order with Rosy Dawn:

Trailing plum brocade
Thumbelina
Swallowtail
Little Twister
Chartreuse
Black Magic
Apocalypse
Songbird
Trailing Cherry

Ngam – I’ve ordered from Classy Groundcovers a couple times now and I’ve always been more than pleased with the order. The prices are great if you need a lot of something. I believe they have a very high rating in watchdog too. I’ll post pics when everything comes in, but that won’t be till the last week of April as I asked them to hold my order until 4/26.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Nice Songsofjoy, I got Trailing plum brocade too and love it!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

don't forget the RD tags don't last outside.. if you want to keep the names make new ones up.... making my labels up tomorrow... figured I would give them a couple of days to rest before I do cuttings

:)

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Cute pansies and beautiful coleus. I got a pot of pansies to put in each of the grandkids Easter baskets. They all love plants and gardens so it will give them something to plant and call their own this spring.
Thanks for info on Classy Groundcovers Songs, I will put them on my list of good companies.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

soj - if you want any tiger dl's for that slope i just dug up all of mine and moved them to the back of the property - i could give you a bunch of them. i moved them because they were crowding out the named ones.

Thomaston, CT

Gee, Allison, I loved those coleus..will be waiting to see yours, SOJ. Pat, that's a great idea about the pansies....I don't buy my grandkids candy, this year they're getting T-shirts, but next year, HayHay & Anni will be old enough to plant. HayHay is old enough now...last year she planted a pink primrose...when it got warm 2 weeks ago, she was in the border looking for it...pretty good for a 5 year old!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that has to be fun

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I am dieing to order these but the shipping minimum for up to 8 plants is insane! http://www.anniesannuals.com/plants/plant_display.asp?prodid=288&account=547046412
They'd be the most expensive Annuals ever if I did it. I need to keep up my will power and not click send on the order ;)

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Meredith, maybe you can find some seeds.

Hallowell, ME

ge1836 - plants arrived bare rooted with buds.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Great Frank
These are not on order but I'm thrilled with my latest trip to the garden
The primroses Pixi gave me last bfall are peeking thru.

Hallowell, ME

ge - I only have a few perennials breaking ground - salvia, catmint and a of course my early bulbs (crocus in bloom, squill and glory in the snow) Daffs are up too. Haven't had a chance to check out back lately. Hopefully with the warm weather coming this weekend things will start to happen.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Cathy I searched the internet and I don't think they are available as seeds. If any one sees seeds of them in a catalog let me know. : )

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Meredith if you cannot find seeds maybe someone would split the order with you. Also if they are like other cosmos they will seed and multiply around the garden on their own next year probably, so you could justify the cost that way. I can see why you are having trouble resisting them. They sure are pretty.

Thomaston, CT

They are beauties, but they are late bloomers....may not set seed before the frost! And my cosmos reseed, but in different colors or shapes...last year I had one look like a starfish.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti just wanted to say i checked out the alpine silver thread jm - it looks like a winner!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok my easy to grow order came today.. astible and hardy geraniums... pot up and keep in.. or plant out?

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Someone said they might be interested in splitting an order. That would be much better because over 8 plants the shipping goes down and then the plants are 20%. So it was about $2 a plant depending on price, I was going by the cosmos price.
Robin, I was thinking they might not come true from seeds. They could be sterile, it doesn't give any info about that. It just seems like all the fancy type of plants are sterile or don't come true from seed. If I knew I could save the seed and grow them from seed again, I would jump on them. I have my doubts they'll even be as pretty as the picture ... because I always doubt catalog photos until I see with my own eyes. There is a nice picture of them in the plantfiles though. So looks like someone else got some that were that pretty. I asked them where they got theirs but they didn't reply unfortunately. I wish they'd answer me because I also would like to know if they have experience with saving seeds or trying the seeds.
Anyhoo I was poking around the yard and I am happy to see my Sienna Sunset has definitely made it through it's first winter here. I was a little worried because it is new and some of the other newer varities of coreopsis haven't proven hardy for everyone. My Torch Lilies look like they may have made it too. Not sure if the last couple of flooding rains have taken their toll though.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

begonias anyone???

:)

I would plant out, Allison...I've already planted phlox.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I emailed ETG... they said I can do either... if I do them inside it will be like an early spring.. and get bigger plants faster... put them out will be fine too.. just come up later.. might just plant them out tomorrow

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Yesterday I got Mums and Maples. 50 Mum plugs from a coop. They look terrific and 5 of the Japanese Maples that I ordered. also came. All with nice buds and with good shapes. I potted them all up to keep the greenhouse until May. I also got my lily bulbs, hosta and DL's from Eflowergarden's sale a couple of days ago, which I am about to pot up today after I finish making the tags and getting a small bag of more soil. They also look great.

We need some big bales of soil, as I just ran out of our winter supply. We will pick up 4 bales at the Keene Agway next week when we take the truck off Island to get fencing, fertilizer, and fire wood from Vt. I'll bet I find a plant or two to tuck into the back of the truck too. We did the price comparison for soil and Agway's appeared to be more expensive than HD as marked by cubic feet, but when you read the fine print on bag, the weight is lighter in the HD bag. Such pricing games. I ain't paying for air! I like my Keene Agway better anyway. The new rabbit fencing is coming from the small company we found in Littleton, Ma who has the best prices for fencing that we have found anywhere. http://www.louispage.com/ Nice folks, too. They are right on out way to VT.

Sun is out. Nice for a change. We are going to finish digging the new beds today, if the soil drys out a bit more this morning. Otherwise I will do some pruning. Patti

Thomaston, CT

I've still got raking to do, & the weeds! My beds are full of them this year. Good to know about the Agway soil, we have one in the next town to us. Allison, I think you're wise to plant outside...less of a trauma to the plant.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

cool.. thanks

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

so you are driving by me again

i think the keene agway is where my in-laws pick up the seaweed hay for the veggy garden here - a guy at agway in littleton claims no ones sells it anymore and tries to sell the hay that goes through high temps - i have never called him on his fib and wonder how many folks buy his story - i could tell by his eyes he was lying through his teeth.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Where is it that you get salt marsh hay??????? Patti

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh my yes, lots of weeds! Still too wet to get after much and still raking out the bazillion oak leaves that never seem to end. J&P order arrived today in good condition and starting to set leaf buds. Two bare root roses now lounging in a bucket in my garage. Hope to get them in the ground by Monday at the latest since more rain is predicted possible for the middle of next week. Still too soggy to dig. Two more orders from Faraway and WFF have been shipped already too. The madness begins!
I am glad to hear so many of everyones plants are returning after such a weird winter. The SS coreopsis is returning here as well Meredith I am happy to report. All the plants that require good drainage seem to have survived so far at least all the rain and wet soil. Delphs, coneflowers and lavenders seem to be humming along and starting to grow well.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

So when is everyone planting in their gardens? I was planning on waiting until May. But I too have many things coming from various places this month, including shrubs. Last year I planted the Japanese Maples on April 11th which was too early, I think. I hate to jump the gun. What to do? Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti i am waiting until the end of april to plant my maples - except for the ones i over wintered outside. will probably hold off on the other stuff until them too.

saltmarsh hay - i believe it is the keene agway - it is out that way - i will ask on sunday and get back to you:)

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I will plant perennials when ever the soil can be worked, not frozen or too wet. Shrubs the same. Annuals must wait until after last average frost date plus a week or two, which traditionally means around Memorial Day here.
