Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Received my FW order today. Have not unpacked it yet.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

With the JM's on order, I will be pushing 50 varieties.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

bad daddy bad... take em out of the box!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They'll be fine until morning. FW does a great job packing. I sometimes leave my kids in the car overnight.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sigh

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

We used to love to play in the car. Camped overnight too.1946 Pontiac.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like fun! Now, who has the most JMs...Victor, Bill, or Patti? I have 2, but may give Purple Ghost to my son since it's supposed to grow to 25'....why didn't I notice that when I ordered? I'd like something around 12-15", red or purple, with good fall color.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You are all ahead of me with three.
No contest here,I just dont have anymore room for that type of plant.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I have one in a pot!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think Bill has more.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Nice order Onewish. Looks like a good company. Lots of nice things arriving to you all, looking forward to seeing all these new plants and trees. My two largest orders will be arriving at the end of the month I think, can't wait to see them but also hope I am ready by the time they arrive.

Hallowell, ME

I love JM's but only have two - one of which I want to place in a pot. Have some Hawthornes, Dogwoods and Redbuds coming too. Wife just got a gold chain tree she's been wanting forever. Have no idea where I'm going to plant them yet. Probably pot up some until I decide.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Which hawthorn, Frank? I have Winter King and really like it. There are many dwarf JM's that get no more than five feet. Some stay under three.

Thomaston, CT

Found some cannas I had bought a few weeks ago, & potted them up today.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes i have a few more than victor - maybe over 60 varieties and several with doubles, not counting the bakers dozen seedlings i could hold in two arms - victor has made a mad push here to catch up and i anticipate that he will pass me soon and find new varieties that will grow on the bottom of his pond under water:)

picked up a couple conifers today - tompa norway spruce and a Omorika spruce nana. both are dwarf. tompa was from a nice nursery and nana came from hd - amazing the difference is weight because of the growing medium used. will have to plant the nana with special care.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did not include my seedling. ^_^

What is 'tompa'??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is a green pyramidal compact frazier fir type conifer only will get 3-5' in 10 yrs. this one is about 2.5' right now. i went there to get to 2 red knock out rose bushes and they only had one bare root so i passed and spotted this one - they have a bunch of jm's that i looked at and fondled:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Were you wearing a raincoat??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes and it was zipped tight is your asking:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you have any dwarf blue spruce - not Fat Albert - that maintains the mice pyramid shape but gets no more than 8 feet or so?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

oh yeah - in fact i think i may have two many dwarf blue spruce especially in front of the patio - i think there are three Montgomery and one spreader variety on the slope at the base of the glowing embers - there is a yellow and green conifer there two. then i have the baby blue eyes that will only reach 6-8' it is a bit over 4' now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Photos of Montgomery?? All over the place on the web. Some are really fat, which I don't want. I want the classic tree shape - just in a dwarf version.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

check out baby blue eyes - has the classic shape - i searched long and hard and found it at a nursery 45 minutes away last year.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, that does look nice. Thanks.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the sizes are all over the place - check this link - http://www.millernursery.com/plantPages/plantPage.php?plantid=190
only grows a couple ft per year.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - 12 to 15 feet.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I should be getting a daylily order in mid may, besides that I am trying to hold out for some in person shopping. I always am like a kid in a candy shop when I go to nurseries. It's cool to get excited about stuff like that still : ) I have a lot of my Dafs I got from Scheepers, B&B and Van Bourgs orders I had talked about here last year. Is it appropriate to post some pics here?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i meant a couple inches per year - the tag on mine said it would max out at 10' - i plant to keep it trimmed smaller - i have a frazier fir that i keep trimmed at about 6' that looks good.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

gebhart's order came today... think RD sells them bigger

Hallowell, ME

Vic you caught me! I think the Hawthorne is a Washington? I've wanted one for years and finally decided to buy. Unfortunately I'm not good at remembering varieties, or I'll forget what it was. I'm kind of like an ol' hick - if it looks good I buy it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

victor here is a shot of two montgomery spruce - there is another to the right off photo - they are not real big and slow growing will probably trim the one here to the right so it looks more like the other one.

Bill just this morning I was thinking my edging looked pretty good, til I saw yours.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Beautiful sitting spot Bill

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes we all need to hire Bill

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx ladies - just get that edge hound they have at hd deb - heavy duty and works great.

joann that is one of my spots to sit at the end of the day and figure out what next:)

there will be some changes behind the patio this spring - have a jm that will get up to 16' going in the back which means out goes a lilac and i think two vibs will out grow their welcome here, one is already to big and i tried victor's magic shoe horn with the other and even though it is still small i can envision it getting too large - will have to ask patti her thoughts when she stops by.

lawn needed to be cut:)

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I have two mound spruce like those and one has stayed nice and compact while the other started sending up a leader branch in the middle like it is trying to grow into a standard form. I wasn't sure what to do with it. So I weighted it down with a milk jug filled with water to try and keep it low growing. Should I have cut it instead?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

cut it - i am going to give my "hairy" one a prune today

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks Bill, I was worried it would look funny if I cut it. But I am going to follow your advice since yours look so nice!
