Today's Weather in Your Garden - 66

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

44 now high of 46.... going to be bad rain & wind today

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

42°, windchill 24°, wind NE 21mph, heavy rain

Steady, heavy rain since 9pm last night, supposed to get worse before it gets better, later tonight.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

mid forties here and rain - pond is pretty large right now - told the wife to take the long way to work river must be flooded by now.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Guess what, we have rain too!

Light rain at the moment 49F and blowing 15 to 30mph We have not had that much rain accumulation so far. But I think we will get a good bit in a little while, though nothing like other folks.

.13 inches In the 24 hours preceding Mar 30, 2010 - 07:53 AM EDT

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Spoke too soon, pouring now. Patti

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Rain, rain and then more rain through tomorrow morning. Temp is 43 degrees and the wind has shifted to the NE so it feels colder than yesterdays rain. Another 2-3 inches by the time it ends for a total of around 7 inches here from this latest round. March rain total here will be well over a foot. Looking forward to the second half of the week with predicted sunshine and warmer temps again. Pumps working almost constantly today.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the nashua river is supposed to exceed the flood levels from a couple weeks ago tomorrow - wow!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, Not so good for trying to drive down RT119. You are pretty close to the Nasuha as the crow flies. No rowing this week as my kid use to do on it. Must be raging. How high is your lake now as I am sure it doesn't look like a pond anymore? Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes the pond has risen to lake level - especially noticeable on the left side of the yard and the fire pit is now a small pond too - considering getting some koi fish:) - next year i think i will dig that out and reset the bricks properly with a crushed stone bed and stone dust in a raised bed - right now they are just set into the clay soil because it is was only a fire pit.

and not only down the street at the bridge on the pepperell/groton line - back in littleton by the agway is a culvert that goes under 119 that is blocked - they are digging up the road to go down 40 ft to clear the blockage - the commute to work must be just incredible!.

South Hamilton, MA

Rain as with everyone else. Puddles in the back yard although iris beds further west seem all right. Pump working, but keeping up. I have never seen the marsh this high, in fact DD had not realizsed that it extended as far east as it does, showing that indeed we are doing records.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

here is a short video from boston.com on the problems in littleton

Small lake forming on the low end of my yard too. It is starting to "climb" up the hill side now further than I can remember it ever doing. Even the critters are sick of it. Last night I caught a very large fat raccoon sitting on the window ledge outside my bedroom to get cover under the eves from the rain. The first wild turkey showed up yesterday and was sitting under a pine tree trying to avoid the heavy downpours too. He gobbled all day but no ladies showed up to answer his call. They are probably in their own drier spot awaiting the end of the rain like everyone else.

I would imagine that the deer are huddled up somewhere. Long may they remain there.

Thomaston, CT

Pouring, & the wind is howling! Quite an impressive video, Bill. Glad my cellar is staying dry....I've got to get to art class this afternoon...hope I can make it past the reservoir.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

speaking of critters i noticed the muskrat that lives in the small "island" in the pond busy about an hour ago - pretty sure it does not have a sub-pump - it looks like the island is now under water - probably moving to higher ground.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Still raining here, but no flooding yet from my endless stream.... Not much water in it, but it may overflow into the woods later today. Hope everyone has dry basements.

Wha, perhaps a dock is in your future. Here was the rebuilding of our family cottage dock two years ago up in Canada. Please note the use of the newest in rock moving equipment, along with a picture of our resident straw boss, Winnie. The ice finally took the old dock out after 40 years, but the new cribs are bigger and better. Lots of rocks to move. You would like that. My older brother even sanded down all the planks and reused anything salvageable that he found along the shoreline. So the expense was just mostly in the a couple of huge new beams and hardware that we needed. But it took a whole lot of time and energy. Good family project. I helped, honest. Patti

Amen to that.

As for the weather... ew.

My biggest fear is our trees. Our yard slopes down towards our house, and there are some huge trees that have already taken winter damage. In fact, a giant tree limb (practically length of our yard) is down. Branches everywhere. Tree experts busy, so no one's able to get here until tomorrow. I just worry about the possibility of a tree coming down on our house.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Oh, deer, and Oh dear to mbenson7 and tree trouble. Hope you are ok.

Still raining and blowing. Puddles in low spot becoming sizable. Patti

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I agree with IrisMa that the deer may be trapped in the woods on the other side of the lake that is forming in my yard. This is not a bad thing. Also the full moon has been obscured by clouds and has also limited any bright night browsing by Bambi and Co. I must say however that even with those silver linings it is good to note that the orange and yellow blobs on the radar screens are almost done with my area. It is not often or really hardly ever that I can remember such a large and extended time of rain with this intensity that was not associated with a t-storm.
Mbenson7 I do also hope that all branches and trees stay put and do no harm until you are able to deal with them.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti that project looks like a lot of fun - lots of rocks!

it is an absolute deluge here right now - i agree i have never seen two storms like this in my life time.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

with the last storm the flood level here went to 14.07 ft - just below the third highest of 14.08 ft back in 1930's - at 11AM that had predicted 14.2 ft - it now has been changed to 15.1 ft which would be the third highest ever recorded.

i am now also concerned about trees coming down especially by the pond wetlands here - the water level is right up to several 100 ft. white oak - the wind is going pretty good.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

46 and sunny. Looks like showers for Easter.

South Hamilton, MA

Oh, you & your showers J-2 Puddles in the yard towards the hydrant--you never saw that! The rain is heavier, probably we are in the 'orange' described earlier. Hope the heavier orange is west of here & that it moves quickly. It was shown to the south 2 hrs ago but not sure how quickly it is moving.

Tree branches can be a worry mb. Our closest tree is a tulip popular & the top came down several years ago. It is growing up again, but branches are preferable to the whole trunk. I think all of us can be thankful that the trees are not leafed out as yet with the winds which have been working.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

We're supposed to be @ 70 by fri. too. I'm off at work that day, so I hope to get in the garden.

South Hamilton, MA

Same prediction here--hope we survive the rain.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

warmer temps should help dry you out.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Water logged.....went past a sod farm yesterday they looked like rice fields.

River Vale, NJ

Hope everyone is safe and dry. Especially those worried about floods.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

45 now going to 58.. supposed to be in the 70's starting tomorrow for 6 days straight... 75 on Easter.. maybe we will dry out enough to be able to put a table outside!!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

41°, wind NE 3mph, light rain

We should be in the high 60°'s the next couple of days, then maybe low 70°s. The wind will keep us just shy of 70° especially on Friday, when the wind shifts from the ocean.

Got to get in the shower. Its dark, dreary, and dismal out there, If I dont get the shower I wil go back to sleep. This is killing me.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

still a drizzle here - going up to 50 today

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

43 and pouring..........again.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ok sun was out for 2 hours and now it's gone again :(

Thomaston, CT

The drizzle has stopped....for now! We were lucky...SE CT got hit very hard, we only got a couple of inches!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We've had 12" of rain this month, the wettest March since they've been taking records.

South Hamilton, MA

overcast rain had stopped by this morning 43° Pump ran through the night so minimum water in the basement.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

this storm resulted in another leak staining a bathroom ceiling - crawled up in the attic and found the source of the leak - it is coming in through the seal around a vent pipe - an easy fix except i would need to get a 32 ft. ladder to get up there - roof is very high in the back and looks worse because it slopes down - wife will not let me buy or rent a ladder to get up there - wants to hire someone - really would like to get a ladder so i can clean the gutters back there - i will not win this battle.

South Hamilton, MA

The gutters can be cleaned at the same time the vent is fixed. Put a guard over the gutter at the sme time as in a difficult spot? I'm with your wife by the way.
