I had still another thread with text spillover:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1081272/
...but it corrected itself when I went back to it. Should I not report this issue any more, since I seem to be the only one experiencing it, and it corrects upon refreshing? I don't want to bog down the complaint thread with trivial stuff!
System issues (Part II)
It is odd that it is happening to you and no one else. Is it only when you skip-to-new?
While I've not experienced the text spillover exactly as reported by KyWoods and documented in the picture she posted above, 2 days ago I did have an experience that seemed somewhat similar and which occurred on one of the same threads with which she was having problems.
What I saw upon 1st opening the page (same thread) was the [post] box and text stretched all the way across to the far right side of the screen. After a very noticeable interval had elapsed, the stuff on the page resized itself such that everything appeared as it should have.
I have the Top Watchdog Ads turned on, so that box should appear on the far right of my screen when I'm visiting forum threads. However, when I 1st opened the page in question with the post box stretched all the way across to the right edge of the screen, the Top Watchdog Ads box was missing altogether. A bit later when the page resized itself, the right edge of the post box moved over to where it should have been all along and the Top Watchdog Ad appeared in its proper place.
What browser are either/both of you using?
Firefox 3.6 on an Intel MacBook Pro running OsX 10.6.2
Reply to post # 7638454. Yes, that is the photo.
In a conversation a few days ago, KyWoods said she is using Windows XP and "the latest version" of Firefox.
Um, silly one..
But why move the header picture to center?
It was fine where it is...
(With all the muttering and moaning going on, I'd think there was other things worth fixing instead of editing things that aren't broken)

It was already centered for some of us...not for others. This just made it standard for everyone (we hope!)
Still. When there are obviously bigger bugs & bigger complaints...
anyways.... I'll adjust. :)
I'm no programmer, and I don't pretend to be. I just tell them what needs to be fixed, and I let them figure out what is easiest/fastest to do, and in what sequence.
And no, I didn't know - or report - the heading was off-center...mine might have been right all along, or I might have just never noticed it ;o)
I apologize in advance for speaking my mind here----BUT-------
All the people complaining need to chill a bit! Have some patience! Deal with it! Believe that it WILL be OK!
I am sure we all are experiencing some minor inconveniences, but I hope you all realize how HUGE an endeavor this is to change over to a new server--NEW owners and, and that Terry and Melody ARE trying to be as cordial and accommodating in trying to fix all the problems many people are complaining about.
What if they were not there? WHO would, patiently, reply and listen to all your complaints about these minor issues?
Aren't we ALL lucky to still have them on the Administration Board---working to fix everything everyone is complaining about? And being as kind and congenial as they are in doing so? They are familiar with the DG site and seem to be doing all they can with the new owners to keep us all happy.
I don't know about the rest of you--but I am just happy that I can still navigate DG in the way I used to be able to--post pictures, talk, chat, go to all the different Forums, my D-Mail, etc.....NOTHING has really changed!!!!
I ask you all complainers to be more patient! Reporting issues to Terry or Melody is fine---but threatening to drop out of DG if everything is not fixed to your liking in "X" days???? Well--that WOULD be your own choice!
--So--Your clock is wrong! Go and fix it! It IS something you can do yourself! No biggie!
--Go to your "Preferences" and set the time to your Regional time so it will reflect it correctly when you post.
I cannot imagine where else in the World you would have access to all that DG has to offer for just $20 a year!
IF you cannot deal with the transitions issues---than don't renew----and I bet you will be sitting chewing your nails and NOT knowing what to do with your down-time if you dropped out of DG! I bet you! You would go into a form of withdrawal! I know I did--when my newly subscribed Comcast was all whacko and I did not have an INternet connection to speak of for 3 weeks! It was awful! It was like a VERY important part of my life was removed!
All I ask for of all you complainers is that you be more tolerant of this HUGE transition of this HUGE Website. It IS the World's largest gardening Web Site! NOT an easy task!
BELIEVE!!!!! It WILL happen! Don't fuss about the small, petty stuff! P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!!!
Go plant some seeds to occupy your time instead! Watch them grow! Believe in the miracle of Spring!
And--YES! Mourn the passing of Dave's involvement in this Site--for it will NEVER be the same again!
There will NEVER be another Dave to do what he has done in creating and maintaining this site. NEVER!
And I KNOW he is hurting to have been removed from it--forever! He gave "birth" to it and saw it to adolescence.
Now--like many a "parent"--he has had to cut the apron strings and let it all go!
PLEASE be kind to those still doing the administrative work on DG. I KNOW they are overwhelmed and are doing the best they can!
Respectfully, Gita
Whoa. Just to clarify. I'm not complaining about anything. Terry asked for information about any problems we encountered. Because I did see something similar to what KyWoods was reporting, I provided that information. I am a software engineer, and as such, I know that in order to fix problems you need test information. I'm providing information. I have plenty to do.
Whoa, slow down there shooter.
Anyway, we know there are still reports of intermittent slowdowns - the more detail you can provide, the better (what time, what exact location, what you were doing when you encountered a delay or timeout message) is very helpful.
I appreciate Gita's vote of support ;o) We are trying hard, so thank you for noticing our efforts.
And I also appreciate the specific reports of what's happening, and where and when ;o)
I think it's safe to say we're all working toward the same goal - to get the site moving as zippy as possible, everything functioning just as it should, and then start looking at ways to correct known issues or improve the things that could stand to be tweaked.
.
If you have no issues to report, Gitagal, good for you, but there's no reason to beat up on those who do. This thread was started in order to request reports of glitches, and to report things they are working on. Perhaps you didn't notice, but the first thread title included, "system issues here, please". Terry requested feedback on what was wrong, and we are simply providing it. Some of us are more patient than others, but if info is requested in order to help the tech team know what we see on our end, we should provide it.
Also on that thread, several of us said our thank-yous for all their hard work.

My question - does the new DG automatically adjust for Daylight saving time? My time was correct until I changed my preferences to EDT (as I've always had to do in the past). If there is an automatic correction, I'll go back and change my time, but somewhere it should tell us that we no longer have to make an adjustment.
Ann
ViolaAnn, I'm afraid to say the automatic switch has always had a few bumps: it works for most people, but not for some. If yours has not changed by now, I'd definitely encourage you to go ahead and make the change manually. We'll then see what happens in the fall when we return to standard time.
Not on a soapbox but do understand Gitagal's intent. The change in DG already
HAS taken place. It can't be undone and life goes on with everyone, including
Terry, Melody and the IB tech staff, doing their best. Hopefully we can continue
to work with them to get things running smoothly. Dave was able to spoil us all
with immediate fixes and perks, but DG is under new management and they
are doing their best considering they have other sites to manage as well.
A $25 annual subscription works out to less than 7¢ a day. Still the best
bargain I know of considering how much time folks spend here.
Peace.
J.
sorry

Site running really slow for me tonight. I don't know if it's just me or not but just thought I would throw it out there.
Any particular areas or forums that are slow?
I'll do a manual time change and the speed has been fine for me lately. :-) Thanks for working on all these issues.

Did the annual subscription price go up, or was this a typo? Last I checked (about a month ago) it was $19.95 a year.
Nope - it's $19.95 ;o) (It was briefly $25 a couple years ago - maybe longer? We soon adjusted it to $19.95 and gave everyone who had paid $25 a few extra months on their subscription to even things out.)
The whole site is running slow. It's slow even coming in. Not having trouble with other sites.
Is anyone else having problems? I'm navigating around without any noticeable drag on page loads.
I just wrote a long post to this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1081831/ When I tried to "send" it, it locked up. Fortunately I was able to copy and save the text. I then exited the thread, went back in and copied my post to the thread again, and sent it. The second time it worked, no problem.
I just tried to send this post, and it too locked up. If I preview before I send, it doesn't lock up. What's up with that?
Reporting an error I found.
I just made a change to one of the entries in my blog. When I clicked 'return to my blog', it took me to the home page instead. I'm on a desktop running XP and my browser is Firefox 3.6.
Joy
faeden, I just tried the test forum, and posted without previewing - no problem.
Joy, that is a known navigation error. If you have that occur anywhere else besides your blog, please let me know.
Is everything smaller or is that my imagination? It seems like all the type on my homepage and in the posts seem smaller than before. I have trouble seeing and it looks different than a couple of hours ago.
I just made a few posts and put up a new Coffee and ... thread and has no difficulties with speed. Everything worked OK.
Ann
I am known to write mega posts and have done so several times today. I've not had any problem posting. No slowdowns today. I didn't preview before sending.
Just a note on the scenario of long posts taking a while and possibly locking up. This has happened to me a number of times over the years even before the 1st sale. Most of the time when it happened I was also loading a large photo but not always. It didn't happen often relative to the number of posts I made over the years, but it did happen occasionally and was enough to prompt me to copy large posts before hitting send, something I still do to this day.
Having a work-around, I never reported it, but as this may not be a new problem, I thought you might want to know.
Correction, when the above happens to me, it doesn't so much 'lock-up' as timeout and move to another screen (can't recall what that one says) without making the post. In Firefox I can go back and retrieve the post to resend it as mentioned above, but in IE I loose the post altogether and have to start over. Again, what I'm describing here has happened occasionally for years, probably since I 1st started using the site.
It won't even move to a new screen for me. It just sits there doing nothing until I get tired of waiting and click on something else (but I copy my post before I do!). I've not had this happen before in all the years I've been on DG.
Terry, thanks for checking out the preview/no preview options. That's one problem solved!
Nope - it's $19.95 ;o) (It was briefly $25 a couple years ago - maybe longer? We soon adjusted it to $19.95 and gave everyone who had paid $25 a few extra months on their subscription to even things out.)
Terry — LOL. That brings cost per day for DG to a hair over a nickel a day.
Now that's a bargain, considering all the features, benefits and ability to
talk day and night with friends.
faeden,
Sorry then. You're right. The behavior I described is not the same.
That's OK - every little bit of the puzzle helps admin/IB with their solutions.
I posted on the "dog slow" thread, not realizing "slow" was among the issues being discussed here...
When DG is running well, pages usually load in less than a second with my connection, sometimes taking a couple of seconds but not longer. Now, it routinely takes at least 5 seconds to load a page, often 10 seconds, and sometimes a bit longer. I don't think I've had a "server time out" since DG went offline for scheduled maintenance last week, but the slow speed is still annoying.
It's not a cache issues; I've cleared it.
Last night I was on from maybe 11 to 12, and it took nearly 10 seconds every time I tried to load a page, no matter which forum I was on.
Thanks for the report and the details - that helps! Are you still having slowdowns today? And have you noticed that a particular feature or tab takes longer to load than others?
