Gypsies move toward Spring

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

We have a lot of them JJ. We even have them growing in the ditch here, imagine that.........LOL

Kassy, very pretty flowers. I can't wait to see all your daffodils.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I have some white and some purple crocus blooming.

I am hungry need to find some food, will catch you later

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm waiting for the daffolils too Venice. I have most of them spaced out a lot. So if they all start to bloom at the same time, I have one bed that will have a lot of them in them. That bunch that I took the picture of, is one of the few bunches that I have of them. Those were the smallest bulbs when I moved them up here. The ones that I have spaced apart were pretty big bulbs.

How about some yellow ones JJ?

These are a little darker yellow ^_^

And some very light purple ones too. I'll see if I can get a picture of them tomorrow.

My white bleeding hearts are coming up too ^_^

No yellow ones :(
Did your columbine I sent you make it ?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Not sure yet JJ, I'm hoping a couple of them did at least. My BF isn't the best at tending flowers for me. I planted them outside last time I was here. I marked where I put them, so I'll have to check on them tomorrow.
I got some seeds for black ones that I need to plant too.

I only planted one bulb here honest!!

JJ, I know you sent me a columbine also. I looked for it but I couldn't tell if that was it coming up or if it was ony some tiny weeds.

Glad to hear your plants in your jugs are coming along fine.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kassy, they sure look hardy.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Let me know if you need more. I'm sure to have plenty.
I will save some seeds this year if you still want them.

Venice give it a little more time. Mine are just starting to come up. They kind of remind me of a small clover when they first come up. I will try to get you a picture.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes Venice, give them some time yet. Not all of mine have popped up yet. I'm seeing young ones that seeded themself coming up, but not the main plants yet.

And yes JJ, that's what they remind me of too, small clover leaves.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I pulled a lot of them thinking they were clover weeds coming up.
Now I wait until they are bigger and I can tell the difference.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Through out my garden, I have a few tiny weeds that looks like the columbine leaf. I am waiting to pull those few weeds when they get bigger so I can pull them out with their root.

I don't thing my seeds are doing so well. But that is ok. I can always plant some seeds about mid April if I don't have any plants.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I was reading back on the recycle of cans.
Now maybe I shouldn't tell you this, but my BF just has to drive across a bridge up here and he gets 10 cents a can. We can only do that with cans that are marked as 10 cent ones though.
We are really close to Michigan, and Michigan pays 10 cents a can. But if you buy soda in Michigan, you also pay that 10 cents a can when you buy the soda. We just happen to get some of the cans that are marked 10 cents here, and I save the ones that I get back home that are 10 cents too and bring them up here.
I know, I'm bad :p

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

That isn't bad. That is smart!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Someone paid the deposit somewhere along the way, so that's not bad at all, Kassy. We have deposit containers where we work. Sometimes someone will bring them back that we didn't sell to, but follow that same philosophy.

And you're recycling, so that's a bonus.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We don't have deposits on cans here, but our local scrap metal place pays 0.30 cents per pound for the empties....not a lot, but better than putting them in the landfill. I do wish our parish had a recycling program....I am tired of hauling stuff once a month to the Wal-mart parking lot. A month of newspaper, cardboard, plastic, tin cans and glass takes up a lot of room and weighs a lot.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey Jean,
All our paper, plactic, cardboard, tin cans and glass are picked up from the end of our driveway every other week. Our garbage company sends around a recycling truck to pick them all up. We just went co-mingle last summer, meaning all the recycling things get put together in the same bin. We just have to make sure the cardboard is cut down to 2 foot by 4 foot and that it fits in the recycling container.

When I watch the people at the house I work at recycle, or their lack of knowing how and what to recycle, I feel sorry for the company that picks it up.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Venice, these are my columbine starting to come up. Mine all come out kind of purple or redish when they are young. That green by it is a weed that I need to get out of there.

My lupine is coming up too ^_^

Boy, it better not get too cold here or my plants are in trouble since so many are coming up early.

(Zone 5b)

it's raining here...and raining and raining...and raining...

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Aaaah! So sorry!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Lynn, I wish we had some rain.

Up at my BF's it is dry, dry, dry. No one can burn anything at this time. And we just downed 2 trees and have lots of brush to burn :(

(Zone 5b)

it stopped raining! I'm trying to move some shrubs while they're still dormant. I've missed my opportunity for 2 years in a row lol.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm sure not that brave. Every time I try to move something I kill it.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I try to only move things that are not gonna do well (die) where they are. That way if they don't make it, at least i tried....LOL

(Zone 5b)

I call it tough love, ladies ;) I'm gonna move them and they're gonna like it!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Had the guys carry my bathroom plants out to porch today, and DD brought me some forsythie sticks, stuck them in the ground and hope this time they will take. Lynnie, love where you put your fat boy tree that looks awsome.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OMG, I just got a trade request from someone in the Netherlands!
And you should see the list of seeds they have. It's going to take me a month to look it all over!!! LOL

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Kassy, did you get that request from 'bartjestin'. If so she is great in trading. I've traded with her twice and am so happy with my trades. And yes she has ALOT of seeds to trade.

Marti

(Zone 5b)

that shrub I moved wasn't the fat boy, Flowers, it was my Harry Lauder walking stick. It looks like it's going to leaf out soon.
I haven't moved fat boy yet...I'll take pics when I do.

Hi ya Kassy! Hi Venice! Hi Marti! :)

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I'd love to get a Harry Lauder Walking stick for my sister. She has always wanted one, but $50.00 is alot of money and can't afford it right now. Her birthday is in June, she will be 65. Maybe I can try to save up the money for one.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hi Lynn,

Hey, Check out my baby geranium!
I have never grown them from seed.
Last year we had one geranium, so when I saw the seeds starting to form on it I thought "what the heck, why not?". So I collected a few of them. I had no idea how they would do from seed or if they would even grow. I never see geranium seeds in the stores around here.
So far this is the only one that has grown. But I did read somewhere that they can take there time coming up too, so I guess I won't give up on the other ones just yet ^_^

Thumbnail by kassy_51
(Zone 5b)

wow there's a healthy little plant! I don't think I've ever seen geranium seeds either.

Marti if I could get Harry to grow from a cutting I'd send you one, but I have tried it, and I've also read on here about others trying it and it not working...there are whole forums on it. It looks like a grafted plant, anyway, although I don't get any straight suckers from it, so I really don't know if it's grafted or not.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

That's what people have told me. I guess that's why it is so expensive.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Hey, Lynnie, I just googled Harry Lauder's Walking Stick and found a web site for Mike McGroaty and he says that you can grow a harry lauders by layering it. He discribes how to do it. Try www.freeplants.com/harry-lauders.htm

(Zone 5b)

where's the part about layering it? does that mean cover a branch with soil? I tried rooting a branch & it didn't work.
Also, I have to say Japanese beetles LOVE HLWS...I spent most of my summer getting them off him last year! LOL

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Ya gotta click on the layering link. Here: http://www.freeplants.com/layering.htm
