Gypsies move toward Spring

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We bought a can crusher at the hardware store for about 10 bux. DH mounted it outside with a couple screws that came with it. Put a plastic trash bag into a kitchen size trash can with a flip top lid. and set it under the crusher....Aidan had a ball crushing cans. Here we get about 30 cents per pound....and crushed cans(flattened top to bottom) take up a quarter of the space as not crushing them. This is Jordan's project....might as well get a penny or two extra when ya can, and better recycle than add to landfills.

DH has a can crusher in the garage.
It is his project. But I agree might as well collect the pennies as throw them in the landfill.

(Zone 5b)

morning all! or is it night? lol
JJ how much wine would you like me to drink on your behalf *grin*

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Much as you can hold and still walk. lol

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

You guys are funny! Good morning all!

(Zone 5b)

lol
good morning!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, where do you get 'wine' in a can? You can drink some beer on my behalf!!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, just saw the news about all the destruction in the east. Are you ok? Do you have electricity?

(Zone 5b)

yup it's fine here, just rained all weekend. It's been busy, my stomach was hurting up till today, but I can eat. I worked extra last week and now this week I have to take a recertification class for work. so I gotta study a bit.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, sorry you haven't been feeling well. Good luck in your studying and your recertificaiton class.

(Zone 5b)

thanks Venice, it feels fine so far this morning. When my little one was sick she kept saying her tummy hurt, for about 5 days.
And I don't even drink wine from a box, Venice, never mind a can! LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Happy St Patrick's Day all. I hope something really lucky happens for each of you.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It would seem that the various weather groups can't come to a concensus on the low for Saturday and Sunday nights. 40 to 46 for Saturday night, and 35 to 42 for Sunday night...but of course they can agree on rain....grin

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Well they finally got something right here
Snow and Cold :(

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

The snow is going to by-pass us to the north. Just rain here, then 30's for the next 3 days.

I still CAN'T get a constant heat on these seeds I planted. They only need 75 degrees.

Good Morning JJ, Venice.
Sounds like you have a plan going with your seeds. Sorry the weather is so yucky.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I keep trying.

(Zone 5b)

we planted our seeds today!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Cool! What are y'all gonna grow this year?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, did you plant them inside or outside?

(Zone 5b)

you mean what are we TRYING to grow lol
let's see, those big red sunflowers, 4 o'clocks, cantaloupe (kid's idea) morning glory, yucca, marigolds, celosia, moss rose, hollyhock.....put enough seeds in there and something will grow right? LOL
I also planted some coneflower seeds in the fall, and saved some for Spring....in case the others didn't make it.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I once tried to grow cantaloupe from seeds I saved from a grocery cantaloupe. The first blossoms dropped off and it took a while for the bees to germinate them. However, I ended up with things that looked more like squash and cucumbers!!! And they were hard as a rock. It was really funny!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yeah, a lot of those fruits are hybrids and heaven only knows what will grow from those seeds...grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

cantaloupe grows good here, but not water melons. They don't get big enough before the cold gets them.

Venice, I read where you wanted to know when the last of my snow went away. Well you saw the snow that was at my BF's 2 weeks ago that I posted on the other thread when I was at his house? Well it was gone that weekend, and so far we have had no more. The daffodils have buds and are really coming up now. We have more then 100 daffodil bulb planted here. He had some and I brought my big bunch up so we have way more then 100 of them. To bad most of them are the same color.
And the crocus are in bloom here ^_^
I tried to take some pictures of them today, but it was cloudy, windy and cool out today. I'll try again tomorrow. We have some trees that we are cutting down tomorrow. There out by the road, so I have to watch the road and let him know when it is clear to down them. They are growning leaning towards the road, so that's the way they will have to fall. There shouldn't be as many cars on the road tomorrow, so that's why he decided to do it tomorrow.
Oh, and they are saying we are going to be in the 70's by Thursday. I told him maybe it's time to start tilling the garden...........LOL

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey lynn, I think it takes the hollyhock seeds 2 years to blossom. I planted some as seed last year, and I got them out a little too late, but any that did make it through the winter, well I'm not really sure they will blossom this year yet for me :(
There is a beetle that really likes them, and I was having problems with that beetle last year. Will be interesting to see if the beetle is back this year. If it is, I have the spray waiting for it this time :)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kassy, all those daffodils are going to be gorgeous!! I think spring is here because it is going to be 70 on W,Th, F here!!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Kassy, are they the Japanese beetles? They hit me real hard for a few days then most were gone. We use Sevin here.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

WooHoo! Spring weather, finally! We too are supposed to have nice weather later in the week. Sounds like you are going to have a nice garden area, Kassy.

(Zone 5b)

hi ya Kassy! I read that hollyhocks only bloom every other year. They're very pretty and on the year they don't bloom I'll forget they were there anyway then the next year they'll be a pleasant surprise *grin* be careful with those trees!

hello Smiley & Venice!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey lynn, mine seed themselves so well now that they have been blooming every year for me. If the old plant doesn't bloom, well then it's young plants that are taking over for it.
There is one of mine waiting for the warm weather to get here. ^_^

And here is a young one that made it through winter ok and is also waiting for the warm weather.
I spotted at least 5 young ones so far and were still pretty cool here.
We didn't cut the trees today because of the wind.
Hoping for a better day for it tomorrow.

I do have another one that didn't do that well last year. I moved it hoping it will do better this year. It's called "little candy floss". It's a pink one. We will see if it makes it this year.

Now this I just call "Pretty" ^_^
