No Venice,
We lost my BF's almost 16 year old cat to kidney failure in December. :(
Snow Lottery # 2 The Melt
Kassy, so sorry. Very pretty kitty.
Did you have problems with your big white kitty or I may be thinking of someone else.
Venice, my big guy had surgery for a cancer tumor. Vet is pretty sure he got it all and the big guy is as spunky as ever. I should have had the vet declaw him when he had him under!
I am so happy that he made it ok!
We have flowers blooming year round here, especially roses. Soon spring will be here, snow all melted and flowers peeking their little heads up. The one year I decided to grow tomatoes during the winter months we did have a freeze and what a mess those plans were and lost a few of my plumeria too.
ooohh nice!!
Kassy, how tall is it now?
What a cool picture! It does look like it could be outside, but you can barely see the screen behind it. Pretty!
Cool, kassy! How long before you'll have to take your Voodoo Lily outside?
Kassy, tell them how tall your voodoo is!
Should we have another lottery? lol
I think we should have one to chose the date my lung infection will go away I am now in the second month, weather is beautiful and I should be outside gardening, not stuck on the couch under house (DH) arrest. Actually tomorrow we are scheduled for snow/40% in the higher valley near the mountains. That is us. I have my tomatoes in the garage and they need to be planted. Anyone want to come to Vegas, free room and board for tomato planting. Comes with free use of Lexus SUV.
So sorry to hear your not feeling well. There are so many that have b een sick for a long time, Seems to tkae forever to get rid of it. Saying prayers for a very speedy healing.
hopes for a quick recovery
Thank you everyone. I just want to get out in the sun and garden....
That's a shame, but behave yourself and rest until you're well enough! Spring will still be here.
How awful, Sharon. Your lung infection just keeps hanging on. With the snows we've had in the NE, I'd jump at a chance to visit Vegas and would be glad to plant your tomatoes for room and board. Heck, I'd plant them for nothing if I could see just a hint of sunshine. The closest I've been to you the past few years was when I visited my SIL in the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. We spent three entire days shopping and eating! I've never eaten such delicious slow-cooked BBQ in my life and those huge Texas margaritas to wash it down were awesome. I still think the highlight of that trip was spending a rainy Spring day making a gorgeous wreath for her to hang on her front door.
Edited to say I can't spell worth a toot anymore....have you ever typed a word once, twice, three times....and it still looked weird even if you thought you'd spelled it right?

You meant NW, right? LOL, it's getting late, I type funny wehn i'M sleEpy too.... ;)
Heh heh heh Thanks for the laugh this morning. I've been a little under the weather, myself, and appreciate the humor. ^_^
We got 2" of snow last night.
I'd love to come plant your tomatoes! The ones I started look weak and spindly! I have put them in brighter light hoping they will get stronger. I'm not so good at starting tomatoes from seed! love, julie
Oh, nooo, hope you feel better soon, kwan.
OK, let see if this site will let me reply now.....
Tryed to the other day and it wouldn't let me. Then got a notice yesterday that they would be shut down for a while.
OK here goes again.
Venice, that plant topped out at 28 inches high, the top 14 inches of it being the open bloom.
Fruitofthevine, the voodoo lily blossom is dying back already. It only blooms in the winter, that's why it's in the house here. It would never make it outside.
In the spring it will shoot up a stalk with leaves on it. Reminds me of an umbrella when it is all the way up and open. The stalk and leaves are on it until fall and then it dies back and goes dormant for the winter.
I have a number of baby bulbs, and a few bigger ones, but this is the oldest one and it was the first time we ever got a blossom from it. I read they have to be 6 years old or older to blossom. And they do not blossom every year, thank god!
This is a top shot that we got of the leaves one year when I was trying to have it ID'ed.
Oh my gosh! It is like an umbrella!
Very cool plant, kassy! a nice dose of "green" for the day too.
Melting...melting...melting...still white here. UGH! Maybe by the end of the weekend I can take some pics that show some grass or mud more likely. Had to put on my waders to get to the shed this PM. I think we have reached ground saturation folks.
Nita
not looking good for 5 days huh????.. I knew I picked too early
OK, we are suppose to have rain over the weekend. I did go outside and walk to front landscape. The sun was out and so warm. The columbines are getting ready to bloom. All kind of baby violets showing their heads from reseeding from last year and, of course, the California poppies are popping up everywhere. You must understand, my total front landscape is a multitude of very large beds. The beds on only one side of the landscape has clover and dicondra outside the beds. No grass. If a Cal. poppy comes up somewhere it doesn't look totally out of place, I just leave it. I think you would call my front landscape whimsy. And the HOA has no problem with it.
Anyone coming this way, just let me know you are coming.
Sounds beautiful, Sharon!
I never planted a California poppy. I think a beautiful very large bird has a case of gastric indigestion and unloaded on my front garden. I have four invasive plants in my landscape that I never planted. They are only invasive if you are not paying attention.
any winner yet ?????
Juanita, day late, (several days late) missed the lottery, but I would have said March 12th. will watch thread to see when all your snow is gone. {wink}
I know you are hoping for a complete melt down now, and I hope it is sooner than my guess date for your own peace of mind. ^_^ ^_^
Oh, no, that deer is going to get all the daffodils when they starting showing their buds! The rains that are coming will speed up the melt, but increase the mud. Can't win!
"Mom" Martha
I read that deer don't like daffodils...sheesh, I was hoping to try them here!
We have dear deer too. It's not unusual to see a dozen just standing in our back yard at dawn and dusk looking at us like they own the place. Mickey, my little Yorkie, is having a hard time keeping up and staking out his territory. Just when our garden got going last year, they mowed the whole thing down in two nights and even eat the Sunflowers. It'll be a wonder if I have one Hosta come back. (psst, Nita...hide those pretty Sun sculptures from Faye.)
Neener, I meant to ask you -- What side of the mountain do you live?
Hey, it was in the 50's here today too, and your snow looks like it's about as deep as ours is right now.
Maybe ours will be gone at the same time. Yea right!
Well I can dream.
Just remember, march didn't end yet. It came in like a lamb here, so if the old saying holds true, we are in for more yet. :(
I was outside looking for some plant life this morning since it was so nice.
