What's for dinner Pt5

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Jen, hope hubby feels better! I had the runs all last week.

Fish sticks, applesauce, sweet potato and broccoli

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yep that's what he has, dr told him "don't even bother coming in there is nothing they can do for it." his diet..... plain rice, bread, banana, potato, crackers, broth, root beer, no dairy

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

that chicken in the bag was pretty good - not anywhere as filled with those supplements like a chicken say from costco - real easy too and clean up was a snap, the juices stayed in the bag and not in the pan

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Now you know why I like them ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds good. I will look for one.

Hope hubby gets better soon, Jen. I started feeling a sore throat last night - probably my wife's cold. Started gargling.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Its so nice to read the meal plans here--that fish stick dinner is good to go, but some others, even if you want to swap an item, it gives you a good plan for a meal. Such a chore, coming up with ideas for dinner!

I like root beer better than ginger ale, My sympathies. We haven't had much since the 'big' swine flu 'epidemic' in the fall.

I tried an envelope of bag n season thing from Aldi--the bag was not big enough for all the chicken pieces I wanted to do and what the seasoning seemed ample for, but we LOVED it! Did not seem too salty, a lot of paprika. Sadly of course it was on 'clearance' and they didn't have it the next time I went. My friend says all the McCormick slow cooker packs she's tried have been good.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

have to watch the salt in the mccormick stuff.. some of them are loaded up

Thomaston, CT

Sally, the chicken broccoli lasagne sounds wonderful--recipe? We need comfort food here with this weather, so baked ziti with meatballs for tonight---Jen, hope DH is better soon!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

How about "What's for lunch"? DS is complaining about the lunch I pack for him. I give him leftovers any time we have some and I try to make sure we do, but if we don't, it's peanut butter and jelly sandwich on Ezekiel bread with a cup of yogurt. Usually that's his favorite, but he's getting sick of it. I don't want to go out and buy sandwich meat. I want something quick and easy, but healthy for the days I don't have leftovers. Any ideas?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i just had a chicken sandwich - leftovers from last night

i usually have a can of progresso soup in the winters with maybe a slice of bread. summers are a big garden salad w/dressing on the side.

or he can just make his own - i do :)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, he's getting to be old enough he can make his own! He's growing like crazy and I doubt a salad or soup would carry him through the day. Sounds good for me though!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Robindog--I'll write that up soon for ya. A creamy sauce with some ricotta mixed in, and Swiss in place of mozzarella. ( Give you the general idea.)

"school " lunches are another trial. Can't tell you how many pounds of Gourmet Lite turkey I've bought in the last several years. Well, yes I can, 1/2 or 3/4 pound almost every week. .We went through a phase of using tortillas (wraps) instead of bread for a change with lunchmeat.
Cream cheese? Cheese sandwich/ rollup? Finger food? ( pb crackers, string cheese, cheese cubes and crackers.)
My kids are teens now--prefer kaiser rolls or potato rolls with turkey or ham, and cheese, but don't complain with PBJ still once or twice a week--so cheap

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My son runs in cycles from Sept to just about a week ago he was on a salami kick, now it's pb&j, makes it easy for me.

We had leftover ham, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, green beans, red cabbage

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Cheeseburgers!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Lion's Club dinner meeting.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

DS loves sandwich meat, and especially salami, but I'm just not going to be buying any of that for him now. I like the idea of a cheese sandwich. I could do egg or tuna salad too, now that I think of it. I'll teach him to make it. Maybe I'll swap salmon for tuna.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

My kids get tuna with just celery salt for a seasoning, and mayo, though they've been known to eat it 'dry.'. I avoid Starkist cuz it seems to smell funny the next day. And two of them like salmon cakes- I should try salad.

Tonight was ersatz minestrone: soup made from rotisserie chicken bones broth, a breast of garlic-herb quick ffrozen chicken from Target, ,leftover.Italian sausage and pepper sauce. pasta, canellini, carrots, celery, turnip, spinach. Cheese and crackers
Tomorrow--????? no clue! out of main dish meats in the freeezer!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I told DS I'd teach him to make his own egg salad and fish salad and he was enthusiastic! Yay!

I want to avoid tuna because of the mercury.

I won't be home for dinner tonight.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

clothspin for the egg salad may be needed:)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You think egg salad is stinky?

Thomaston, CT

Yes, after it's been wrapped up for a while---sulfur compounds---but i like it! My GDs take hummus & raw veggies, but not filling for a 13 year old! Pieces of leftover chicken, or chicken salad from the LOs---wraps with refried beans, lettuce, & salsa--it's hard coming up with different choices. Tonight, chicken piccata, yellow & green squash saute, mashed sweet potatoes.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I like the smell and I don't think it's that awful. I went to a spa once that had natural sulfur hot springs. Peeeee-U! Now, THAT was stinky. DS is 14 now, Marilyn! Time flies, huh? Yesterday, he came running to me saying, "Mom! I'm growing a mustache!" I couldn't see anything... had to turn on extra lights and squint. Yep. He's got seedlings.

Looks like no matter what, we're gonna have to cook and prepare the night before if he wants more than PB&J.

Yummy! I'm coming over tonight Marilyn!

Thomaston, CT

Wow---14---now the fun starts, Harper! Actually my DS was great until age 16---girls in the picture then! Hope the meal turns out yummy---you never know!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is stinky after going through the digestive track - lots of built up gasses:)

Fried haddock, mashed potato's w/ gravy a veggie. Served with a salad and hot biscuits.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

chicken & I picked up a chocolate covered brownie with all this fancy stuff on it for Randy's Birthday today

guess I should mention when I got home from the store.. parked the truck in the driveway.. a few mins later there is a knock at the door.. my big ole truck slid down the driveway into the street... and the neighbor couldn't get out.... OOPS.. glad nothing was damaged

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Happy b-day Randy!!!
Very glad nothing happened to your truck or anyone.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Happy Birthday Randy! Mmmmm, brownies. I like the kind that have a crunchy crust.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it had the ultimate crust... chocolate!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I like the gooey middle.

We had pizza tonight, hubby is feeling better and that's what he was in the mood for.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Glad he's feeling better, Jen.

Thomaston, CT

Me, too! And that your truck is OK, Allison, & that Randy had a great B-day brownie---what a good idea! Leftovers tonight & tomorrow, too unless this snow stops!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am doing a tribute to Ric's Black Forrest Cake... but wasn't sure if I had enough frosting.. so I made this up.. and going to use it in the middle layer.. pretty good

just made dough again for pizza - recipe is easy and cooking it in for a loaf is wonderful.
this is a wet dough - no kneading required - easy
packet and 1/2 of yeast with 1 1/2 tbs of 100 degree water in a large bowl
6 cups of bread dough - do not need to wait for yeast to act.
mix with a wet wooden spoon
loosely cover so gas can escape for 2 hours

use what you need for pizza crust and put rest into refrig to save for bread dough or another pizza

the real recipe is twice this (13 cups flour) that is a lot so i halved it.
