Nice pics Metro. I would love to visit Hawaii ...some day. Your pics make me wish I was there now...
Tropical garden # 66
I know it is hard to tell on this picture... but this was seriously one of the biggest Alocasia leaves I have ever seen... and I've seen some BIG leaves. I couldn't get too close though because we were at a water fall and it was surrounded. while walking to get a closer look I ran into the picture below.
My foxtail ferns are the only thing alive and green RJ. The brown fronds will eventually get loose enough to where you can just pull them out without any force.
Rj, Hi.
My palms are so tall that I couldn't take the brown fronds off if I wanted to. More and more are turning brown, still cold winds, and I'm almost wondering if they will survive at all. Time will tell.
Good luck with yours.
Hap
RJ are you talking dead fronds on ferns or palms? I'm confused now. You tropical folks with all your palms, and alocasias, and philo's etc. etc.. I have a hard time keeping up with ya!
Hello, everyone.
A friend from Montreal is currently visiting with us. He leaves on Tuesday and I'll be sorry to see him go. He has received many prizes from the Montreal Botanical Garden for his involvement in community garden plots, beautification projects, his own home's landscaping, done on the roof of his 2-car garage, etc. He is very talented and digging his little heart out around my house, opening no beds, dividing, planting, mulching, etc.
For Valentine's day, I bought Gail 2 dozens yellow roses. Yes, I know it's a bit hackneyed but what can I say. That's what she likes. Had it been only me, I would have put them in a vase with water but he decreed I couldn't just hand them to her like that. HeI put together this floral installation from stuff he found all over my garden. Gail was very happy. That's a good thing, indeed. Here's a picture of the finished product.
Take care, all.
Sylvain.
Well I will be going to new orleans on the 6th as a belated birthday if anyone wants to stop by while im there please do....
Hello Everyone
Welcome home Truetropical!! Thanks for the show.
Topicbreeze, I too. am happy that the aliens did not take you away. I enjoyed all the pictures posted on the last thread. The Cat Whiskers is at the top of my list this sping.
Metrosideros, I have to agree with Rachel. Please don't stay away so long.
Lakesidescallas, thanks for sharing your pictures, I am pleased to know that I can puchase the Cannonball tree here in the USA.
Rj , on the last thread, you asked how my GH's were doing.
One raised bed hoop house is fine. I will have to wait on the two that were flooded, to tell the damages.
Texasbgleaves, I can say "Road Trip" Patty and I have been discussing the possibilities for a while. We will not be taking a U- haul this time. lol
3jsmom31, the red flowers you asked the name of in the last thread is Ruellia Colorata (wild petunia).
Joeswife, I am so sorry that it too so long to reply, cleaning up afer the snow storm is hard work. I did not have time to take pictures. It's funny, I also have a little planter pot like yours.
Concerning your two new baby bananas, I would leave them until they grow a little bigger before trying to seperate them, maybe next spring.
The plant in the snow is a noid Hellebores.

Truetropical, spiders in the air aren't a problem, it's some of the ground dwellers that are the danger. I have dozens of these around the garden. They have the spread of around the size of a hand. Because it's easier to build a web across open areas they often take up positions over pathways. Those I move, frequently inadvertantly with my head, LOL. They're harmless and usually gallop off your head very quickly.
Waterlilies are flowering in my dam now. Bit early as they usually hold off until the end of the wet season so they don't get flooded. But after a big deluge all January, February is turning out the driest on record. Obviously the Waterlilies have been fooled into thinking the wet is over. The monsoon is expected back next week, those plants are in for a surprise.
Those pictures look like you live in a conservatory.
If I ran into that spider I would be screaming for a week! LOL
Hap
Hap, they're quite harmless. I spent a week in hospital after a spider bite, so I'm wary of the suspected culprits. But these others aren't a worry. Just that I lecture them against putting webs above pathways. But do they listen? No! Maybe I'll have to work out where they keep their ears. ;O)
Caladiums sharing a pot with Alocasia "Vietnam Mutant". I'm expecting the "Mutant" to tower over the Caladiums in time.
A pot with Alocasia portei seedling plus some Anthuriums. Couldn't work out what the green shoot was that came up in the pot. It finally dawned on me, it's a coconut. Because the pot is very big I put two old dead coconuts (fruits) in the pot to save having to put in so much soil. Looks like one wasn't "dead".
