Snow Lottery

Sweet peas seed is sown in September. They germinate and the top portion of the plant stays dormant while the root sections digs itself deeper in the soil. Reason being that when the heat hits the roots are far down in the soil and protected from the heat and the plant grown like a monster. Anyway, that is how you have to do it in the West. Same thing with growing editable peas.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I'll bet the deer can eat those, too...thanks for posting the pics so I can enjoy them from afar, lol.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I figured I was doing something not right with those sweet peas. I planted them in very late spring.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Didn't I say the 26th of Feb? It could still happen I suppose! LOL

I planted mine late spring too and they grew half way up the fence and died. No wonder, they weren't dead! LOL

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

For not living in snow country, Crissy, that was a good guess. Twenty years ago I lived south of San Fran, even had a redwood privacy fence around the cottage I lived in, and trips to Tahoe and Yosemite for whatever reason were all during the Winter. Talk about beautiful country! Our forecast the next few days, if they've got it right, are highs in the 40*s & lows in the 30*'s with rain several days. If Nita has that much of a melt-down this week, I'm "heading for the hills"...lol

I've tried growing Sweet Peas too without much luck. My Mom did though when I was a kid and they smelled heavenly. Thank you Sharon, for letting me know when I should plant seeds. And Pegi, I'm looking forward to seeing your Peach blooms.

No more icicle or snow photos tomorrow. All I am afraid we will have is just puddles. Talking about puddles, have you seen this? It is really cool.

This is a 2-minute video that shows a drop of water falling into a puddle at 2000 frames a second. You will see something totally unexpected.

I got married in Tahoe and almost every summer went to Yosemite, I knew those trails like the back of my hand! I was born and raised in Modesto, DH Dave is from the whole Bay Area, he was born in San Mateo and lived in SF, Fremont, and Cupertino. Oh yea, he lived in Santa Cruz for a few years too!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

And he ended up in Arkansas! I lived in Sunnyvale for a short time, and I loved the bay area...but oh, soooo expensive.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

His dad and half of his family lives here. His mom and the other half of his family lives there. I don't have any family here, then again, I don't have any family! Oh well!!!

Uncle Roy lives in Sunnyvale.

All y'all in the NE are really getting hammered again. Man I feel for you. We've missed the bullet the last three times but did have flurries all day yesterday, no accumulation. Now we're having high winds through tomorrow, my tubular wind chimes have been clanging all day. Three or four more days of cold temps should turn into sunny skies with highs in the 50's by mid-week.

Hey Nita, how much snow do you still have? Most of ours is gone with just a few patches in the yard and lots left on the North side of our house. We can see grass for the 1st time since December 18th. It's brown but it's grass.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Boy, you guys must have pi**ed off Mother Nature. I am so sorry. I am still down with a lung infection and could use some help. Rain tomorrow and Saturday and then we are in the 70's. Town is full of NASCAR drivers and their groupies. Race is Saturday and Sunday. If it rains on Saturday, then that race is Monday. A lot of "Boy Toy Watching". OMG, I cannot believe I said that. It must be the new drugs. Anyone out there had Valley Fever? It is an Arizona Special disease.... I just need info. I have had this lung infection since April 20o9 and I think all the doctors I have seen might be wrong. Have a great day tomorrow because I have "Baby Luke", new grandson for the day. He is 3.5 months old and is now recognizing Grandma and Grandpa and is full of joy and many smiles. It is so cool to watch your grandchildren because when you were young and watching your own children, you were scared to death. With no fear, it is amazing what they figure out on their own. Friday is my favorite day because his father is a Doctor and already moved to Spokane, WA, and the rest of the family will be leaving end of March. Then I will only see him on Skype. But life is good because he got a great new job with a hospital because Las Vegas has major problems for everyone, including Doctors.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Sharon, I can't believe you have been sick for so long!!! You better go find a doctor to help you. That is just not right for you to be sick for so long! That can deteriate your whole body. I hope you didn't give it to your GS.

I was very sick for a month and I thought that was bad. I took antibiotics, 2 rounds of steroids, plus Mucinex, and Ibuprophen. I was so sick that I didn't even take a shower for about a week.

Please find a good doctor!!!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I have a very good doctor but this crazy infection just goes away and hides. I went to Maui in August last summer and I came back with no cough and felt fine. Around Thanksgiving I was not feeling my self and then I started to look around my house and my garden. Nothing was getting done because I had no energy. I had a lung x-ray and I have a weird low grade infection that was just hiding. I am on my third section of antibiotics, steroids, and breathings apparatus. Then yesterday I woke up with a sore throat because my young female neighbor had a major problem and was sick and I went to help her. Now I have her cold but nothing major. I have enough drugs that the germs gave up and ran away,. And I have been very good and not doing anything. Love you all and send me your angels.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Prayers being sent from Kentucky. If the meds don't help soon, you might want to ask for a referral to a pulmonologist.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Well, here's a look out the front door. I think today I will be able to get my truck up to the house for the first time in 3 weeks. Gonna splurge and go to the grocery store. :0)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Neener, it is a LONG winter for you!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Look at that path to the birdfeeder, at least your feathered friends have been eating well...lol.
Make the goosebumps stop.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Juanita it IS melting some, better than none at all! My date went kapoot too!

We were supposed to get a snow/rain mix this morning but it's 38 out there, way too warm and tomorrow's supposed to be beautiful!! I get to help Dave mix and move compost and dirt tomorrow, sounds too much like work to me! LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

that picture gives me encouragement (April) as well as todays clouds and cold wind! Ground is frozen again, well still, after some days of sun was melting the stuff laying in the sun.
just a coincidence but the gal who drew my blood donation also lived in LV for a coupla years and had a hard time resolving a health problem. Her problem was different tho. But sort of makes me glad I have visited LV (once) and don't plan to live there. Take care!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Neener,
How is the weather there today? Did the eastern storm miss you?

We have been lucky for a change, that I have to say.
We had snow one day last week, but only got a few inches, and after I shoveled the driveway, what was left on it melted.
Today we have a few flurries, but we are having a high of 33°, so the few flurries that we are getting are not sticking.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Yepper we dodged the last bullet. Just a dusting on top of what is still here. We are melting more everyday. I can finally see my roof!! But there is still much to go. I guess that tells me how very much snow there was out there. What a mess!!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I hate to think what is going to happen when north of you goes into a spring melt. Lets hope it does it slowly.

I know what happens when it does it fast. Last year south of us had 29 counties considered disaster areas, due to flooding and a fast spring melt of all the snow we had last year.

Hope your on high ground!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

We are closely watching the Ohio river level here, but so far it's not affected much. I think it would have to snow/rain 40 days and 40 nights for us to be in danger, lol.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Kassy we will be fine. We are midway up a small mountain. No problems there. Our only problems will be mudslides. :0)

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Did you get your buggy back from the shop?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

New Thread Folks!!! Follow the ice melt. :0)
