Susan,
I talked to a friend last night about how to get the stump out. Besides mulah is tight can't afford to hire someone. But Thanks for info.
Snow Lottery
They rent stump grinders too. That's what I did when I grinded up my 100ft CA Redwood stump that was huge. I wonder if those pics were wiped out when my computer crashed... I'll see if I have them on this computer here at work, if not they were :(

Cindy if your not in a hurry, there is this chemical that rots the stump.
Cindy, nice irises and since January! I saw that you had a flower pot on a stump. I was thinking that maybe I can find some about that size to use as risers for my pots.
Crissy, not many redwoods here!!!
Up to 30 in Indy.
Goodness, thought I had posted before...must have forgotten to send....my senior moments have become senior days.....where must my head be going?
April 23
Mine was planted by my grandmother. It was about 30 years old... one of these...

Oh, I love it!
For a change it wasn't us that got dumped on!!!!!
Sorry rvnsbrk ^_^
But I still have a feeling yours will be gone before ours, even if you did get more then us this year.
I'll take a wild stab at it with April, 24th.
My son wanted me to guess May. He knows how long we can have snow here!
This was us last year! UGH!
Kassy, when did you take that photo?
Yep Kassy that's us this year without the nice driveway. Ours looks like the snow board run at the Olympics. :0)
Thanks for joining in Faye. Gotcha!
Nita
Hi Faye!
Kassy, those piles of snow look like parking lots at our grocery stores and forget about Wally World...they're 8'-10'' high, no kidding! I'm far from being a Spring chicken and I have never in my life seen this much snow in one Winter and hope I never will again.
One of these days, my no-freeze will un-freeze.
no way I would use a 4 wheeler to take a fresh stump that size.
I had some stumps like that, and I dug the dirt out around them, sawed them off under the dirt line, and then put dirt back over them. You can't see them. Just throw some mulch and a neat rock over it, or a pot or something, you can't grow much over it, as the soil is too shallow there for a few years.
Venice, that picture was our last year snow fall. We were close to setting a record for the amout of snow in one season since they started record keeping. We didn't miss the record by much.
This year we have been very lucky. Only one really bad snow storm that I can think of. Otherwise it has been coming by a couple of inches every now and then. South of us has gotten hit harder, but not as bad as last year either. And north of us, well lets just say my BF is an hour north of me and has less snow. Go figure!
So far we have a little over 9 inches for the month of February, and thats more then we usually get this month, so I guess I better knock on wood here.
Maybe the snow stayed away this year because my kids went out and bought a snowblower??? LOL
FruitOfTheVine, boy, do I know those parking lot piles of snow. They can be huge. Some were measured at 12 feet high last year.
And I was a little worried this last fall when our fisrt snow came on October 12th. Sheeesh
Well I did is just what you are thinking about doing. Grand Jeep Cherokee and a mimosa trunk. All the side roots were cut but found out there i a root that goes down to China. When I tried to pull it out with my four wheel drive, the stub did not move. My father taught me in the 50s how to use dynamite but i did not know where to purchase it. Well I have two engineers, one attorney, one doctor and me, a mere woman. LOL. We sat down next to the tree and analyzed the problem. We discovered with all the roots cut the stump did not move. The reason being was because the major root goes straight down. So we all sat around the trunk of the tree. We all had feet on the trunk. One side, two people, pushing against the trunk so we could get to the main root. Then the other side would push and the hacker, our son-in-law the Attorney would hit the root with an ax. Well after about 3 hours and I am not exaggerating the main root was severed then the jeep could pull it out. Just go slow or it will fly out and land on the top of your SUV. When we were done and the stump was removed, our son-in-law did some research. He said that he had done a spread sheet showing all the man power we had there and how much work it took and all the pending heart attacks that did not happen." If we ever need another stump removed, just call him and he will pay for a stump grinder." We had a friend that used his 4 wheel and the pull and when the stump released, it broke out the rear window and dented the back lift on the back of the SUV. I thought it was a great idea. but I guess it is not. Not the same as pulling out old stumps with horses. Only women think up this great idea. Just does not work....
What an ordeal for one stump So funny. Hi my name is Cindy and I will take a leap of faith that by the first day of Spring which is March 20 that you will be able to snub your nose to the last of the white stuff. I hope it happens sooner so you can dry out some before your gardens come alive.
Hi Cindy :)
Sharon, what a mental picture...lol
Thanks Riverland!! I'll add you to the list.
That's one great story Sharon. I can so relate. My partner and I had to do a total renovation of a large commercial property a couple of years ago. This entailed removing about 100 well grown shrubs mostly azaleas and junipers. Not the same as removing a stump, but I don't know how many chains we broke trying to get those suckers out of the ground with a truck. Never again! I've never worked so hard in my life.
Juanita
The more I read, the more I'm thinking I'll leave the sucker in the ground. It's just me and my 82 year old mother here. So I don't want to take any chances of ruining my 4 runner. I do have some stump killer stuff so I think I'm going to use that.
Thanks Ladies, for all your input ^_^ Going to be a beautiful 65 today and I'm going to be stuck inside with two little girls making suncatchers. ( I promised ) The rain is coming back tomorrow and will be raining until Monday.
WormsLovSharon, You worked hard and got it done girl, I'm proud of ya! I have a few stumps that I just park potted plants on in the summer and hope time will rot them. I have used the chain to pull up shrubs and it works great. Brought shrubs from old homestead here and they all lived, think the extra rain we had that year really helped to get them rooted back. I think pulling them up that way puts less stress on the roots. The things we do for our yards LOL.
My DH Dave is building a garden area for us this year. We should have started this last fall but his work schedule was very hectic so it didn't happen until he was laid off.
I can't wait for this winter to be over with! It's getting very annoying!
Are you going to show pics of the new area Chrissy? Is your snow melted yet?
Snow has melted for the most part, just under the trees and the piles in the parking lots. I didn't take pics of the area yet, he has it tied off with twine that matches the dead grass. I'll take pics this weekend of it, it's a nice area but I think he's running it the wrong direction... We'll find out. He's supposedly buying the fencing and putting it up today and tomorrow, plus a gate!
That's really Pegi!! Now I know why my sweet peas never did anything, I planted them too late!! LOL Maybe I'll end up with some from the spring RU if we get to go.
Sweet peas are planted at different times in different areas. When I lived in Minnesota my mother always said to plant them on Good Friday and when I tried that here I didn't have anything decent. I was told to plant them on Sept. 15 but never do get around to it until first part of October. We have a growing season all year round. Now I wish I could plant lily of the valley and bleeding heart, some of my favorites, but it just doesn't get cold enough over the winter and scorching hot during the summer. I do miss some of the great things you can grow in your climate.
I planted these in June for the fall blooms, then it got super super hot for just a week or so but it was enough to do them in, that and Dave thinking they were weeds! Yes, weeds will climb up the string I put out for them! LOL

Thanks Doug!
Mine doesn't get accepted?
Shoot Angel I missed you. Think I have it now. It would be too goog to be true that I didn't screw this up somehow. :))
I see the forcast has snow coming in for you again on sunday I believe. 60% chance. Unless they changed it since this morning.
Thanks for the good news Kassy...NOT.. :0). We may get more, or even worse we may get ice. Even at this stage I'll take snow over ice. Too soon to tell what's going to happen. The last one missed us, maybe this one will too.
OOPS, yup, they changed the forcast. Now they are saying rain, but with a low of 29 degrees, that it is showing, well, I think I would rather have snow. You sure don't want ice!
Hey, I just looked out on the south side of the house here, and our snow it probably a lot less then yours..........LOL
Sorry.
We can actually see grass here ^_^
Not that we will see if for any length of time. We have snow flurries in the forcast, but that I can deal with.
I just took this picture through the patio door and screen. I see grass there!!
Ha! Dave started our rider mower the other day and it just went vroom vroom vroom vroom and wouldn't stop doing that to run right! Definitely needs a tune up or something.
Lots of lawnmowers and engines get stick when they sit for awhile. Did he drain the gas out of it?
Hi everyone.
Nita, did you see we're in for a heat wave this week-end...up to 52 here on Sunday. Goodbye snow, at least some of it.
It had only been sitting for maybe a month. It was starting to act up last fall but now it's really doing it! Probably needs it's little sparky plug changed.
DH mowed our lawn yesterday, beginning to look bad. Most of my neighbors have lawn mower service, every Monday morning you can hear all the lawn mowers running. Don't think that would be a good business to be in if we got snow. Spring is coming, snow is melting and I know all of you are really looking forward to that.
LOL One thing about CA is they water the lawns in the winter and they have to be mowed year round, just not as often in winter as summer. They don't do that here, all the grass dies in the winter and no one mows from around November until the grass starts growing again usually mid April.
