Snow Lottery

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Juanita, is it fair to ask if you live in the mountains.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Carol you're too funny!! :0) I live on something called "Furnace Mountain." It's more of a bump in the road than a mountain.

I wondered if you were getting more Fruit and Nuts. We just got a dusting. AMEN to that.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I was looking at the geographic map of Leesburg. The weather looked like you were on the cusp of rain and snow. However, it was hard to tell if you were part of the Blueridge Mountains. By the way, Furnace Mountain was not on the map. lol

Yes, I have been getting more than my share of Fruits and Nuts. I should cut them out for a while! I can't afford to be any more fruity and nutty! LOL

We got about 3" today and more on the way!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Juanita, My two oldest granddaughters were here yesterday to say hi. They are 18 & 16. I open the bin and showed them my worms. Heard the screams all the way across the street. I was thinking end of May but did not want to be mean to all our friends in the East.

I think Mother Nature is thumbing her nose at Al Gore....

We were 69 today with lots of sun and no wind.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, but you deserve that nice day, with the horrible heat you get in summer!
LOL about the worms...you have to teach them about gardening, then maybe they wouldn't be squeamish...might not help, though...

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Actually, they are good gardeners. They have helped since they were able to walk but they just had not seen that many worms in one place and moving.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Ahhh, okay, lol. Tell them that when I worked at a pet store, we got big boxes of worms in and I had to pull them out and count them into separate containers to be sold as bait or turtle food. I thought it was fun!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

LOL Carol!! Just reread my post. The fruit and nuts thing wasn't directed at you. In my convoluted way I was asking FOTV if she was getting more snow. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to imply anything personal about you. I'm gonna have to behave before I tick somebody off. :))

No snow last night, so we don't need to adjust any dates. Got lucky this time and we were due for it.

Later gators,
Nita

Just checking in from the land of Fruit and Nuts. I like mine with Chocolates please and have been eating way too much of that lately. It's another cold day "snow free" and the sun is shining making it absolutely blinding looking across the snow.

This is a fun group, y'all make me laugh every time I tune in. Go worms!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

FruitOfTheVine, I guess this is the site for you if you like Fruit and Nuts and Worms!!! lol

Mar 15, but what do I know of snow being a native floridian??

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Man the wind out there right now is wicked. It's gonna knock down my prize winning icicles!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh, is it possible to see your wonderful icicles? If you show us yours, I will show you mine!!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm hoping more sweet peas have opened, haven't been outside yet today. We are having summer weather, just wish I could send some sunshine your way. Some people are wearing shorts already, not me cause I know some nasty weather will be coming out way again. Will take picture of my sweet peas for you. I should carry my camera with me at all times, I do miss some great shots. Really have a lot of weeding to do since all that rain we had they have grown faster than I can pull them out. Prize winning icicles, some of them can be pretty but I just don't want any here.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Yes, I am jealous just hearing about them. Can't even see weeds, just snow!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I thought these were pretty cool!

Isn't nature fascinating? Very cool indeed! I knocked down all the biggest ones here, but here's a pic I like from a winter gone by:

Venice if I were you I would go back outside and get a close up of those icicles... and try not to get anything else in the background.. that spot has the makings of a DG contest winner!!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

These are some I can't get to to knock down. Second story. I've been reaching out the windows up there and taking a long pole to get them, but these are out of reach for a short stuff like me. :)

rvnsbrk, nice icicles!

I was going back in the evening when it would be just black behind them and use a flash to make them sparkle. Of course they were gone when I went back.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I broke one off and munched on it yesterday while I was outside shoveling, so I wouldn't have to go back inside to get a drink of water. It tasted fresh and clean!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I ate snow the last time it snowed last week. YUM!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just don't eat the yellow snow! ^_^

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

LOL, yep, 'watch out where the huskies go...".
Snow ice cream was one of the fun things about snow when I was growing up. We moved from New Orleans to Kansas City, Kansas, so we were thrilled with all that snow.
Now, not so much, lol.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

We used to make snow cream when I was a kid ~ snow, sugar and vanilla flavoring. What a treat in the heat of Summer when my Mom would pull a metal bowl of it out of the freezer. By then it was flavored ice crystals but was still a neat surprise.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

YUM!! I want to get an ice shaver...

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi everyone..

Is it melting yes yes..lol.

have great day everyone..

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

All that snow and ice, I do remember that stuff. We are enjoying sunny and warm days. High 70's, sorry girls I just had to say that, but you will see spring soon.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hey California girl, show us your flowers!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Not many blooming yet but will pix of what is in bloom. I'm heading to try and get an apple tree stump out of the ground. It is in an area where I want to make my butterfly garden. Be back later with pix

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Show us the area where you are going to plant your flowers so we can see the before and after. It would be so nice to see something other than snow!!!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Venice,

Last fall I started clean the area out. It had weed 3 feet tall, at one end is my Iris garden, then in the middle is all kinds of flowers, dahlias, daffs, tulips, rose bushes, lillies etc
This dirt area is where the butterfly garden is going. There is already a Black Knight butterfly bush there, you can see the apple tree stump that I am trying to get out of the ground. Need to cut some more roots then I'm going to hook a big chain around and hook it to my 4 runner and hopfully yank the puppy out of the ground.

This is looking from the opposite end. Yea see all the weeds I got to pull :(. They come up easy enough but I hate pulling weeds. After I get them pulled up then I will lay newspaper around all the plants and cover with mulch so I won't have to keep doing it

Ok so now how about a few flowers?????

My mom's Daphane Bush

Miss CA, I can tell you have a very nice garden area. You have loose soil? Not fair! It won't take too long to get it all in shape. Doing the newspaper thing is smart. What type of mulch are you going to use? Is there a typical one that everyone uses over there?

Is your Mom's Daphane Bush blooming now? Beautiful!!!

Hi Venice, my name is Cindy

Our dirt is red dirt that was full of rocks, that I sifted last fall. My mom has friends that own a tree cutting business and they always bring me the mulch so it is a mixture from all kinds of tress, We have a pine tree that I also collect the needles from and add to my mulch. Yes, the Daphne is LOADED with buds and smells heavenly.

Here are some Iris that have been blooming since the first part of Jan. I know their name but right now I can't think of it.

Cindy, see if you have a local company that can grind the stump for you. We had an apple tree die last year, DH cut it down and put the top in the brush pile. We also had 2 old locust stumps that had been cut even with the ground for years. Then a guy came by and ground all three for $50. I used the apple mulch in my beds, man it smelled good. I'm just afraid if you use your 4-wheeler you'll risk burning out the transmission or tearing something else up. Your mom's Daphne bush is gorgeous and so are your beds! I can't believe your Daff's are blooming. Thanks for sharing your pics and progress, lots of work there. You're twice as warm as we are, only 35 here today but at least we have sun.
