What is blooming now?

Alliums are replacing the last pf the tulips here.

Tammy, love the cammasia on the slope! Very pretty. And of course, peonies count as bulbs, don't they? Well, for our purposes they do!
And Alliums are my favorite traffic stoppers! Very effective!

Just wanted to report that I went up to the Holland Michigan Tulip Festival this weekend. Well, the festival doesn't start until Saturday, but the tulips are definitely getting a head start and may not be around for the formal festivities! They were absolutely stunning! And if anyone is in the area, please do a drive thru. You can see a sampling of many many varieties and compare their growth habits. Of course, I didn't take pics. My cameras are being tempramental these days.

Adairsville, GA(Zone 7b)

You guys are making me jealous. Love the pics!

Just leaves on my hippies so far. The lilies are tall, but no blooms yet. The alliums and peonies have budded and are almost ready to bloom, but nothing yet. Now that the daffodils, creeping phlox, and GA veronica are done, I just have iris blooms, dianthus (pinks) and some sweet Kate blooming. I do love that clove scent from the dianthus! The clematis vines are just starting to bloom as well.

Sounds like a great trip to tulip country,Tabasco! I understand camera issues. :-) The batteries died in mine yesterday while I was taking pics of the bluebirds.

Glad to see that Grizzly Flats is starting to thaw, Evelyn! :0)

Not too fast...they have predicted that the rain storm of today will turn into snow by late night or early morning...

Yesterday, when it was spring I planted out some veggies. Since most of the weather has been cool, I put out broccoli, potatoes, beets, and the day before I sowed peas and carrots. The tomatoes are in the basement, waiting for settled weather, as today I went to HD, and they had loads of "Proven Winners" on bedding plant carts, ready to be picked up by vendors, as they never seem to know about unsettled weather and ship out tender plants right from the greenhouse. They used to do that to me when I worked for a large nursery in SoCal, as well as here when I had my own small nursery.

I am still waiting on the late tulips. The daffs are all bent over from the snows and now heavy rain and wind.

I noticed that there was that beautiful maroon anemone, in the "Dark
Side Garden" I planted in fall, though I have not had a chance to take a picture of it yet. I just saw it yesterday.

Tammy - nice bog bed. I am reclaiming part of my lawn area and will be outlining the new bed with rocks, similar to yours. Nice to get an idea of what it will look like once I get the plants in.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

here is my sluggish yellow hippie patch. They're the very last to put on a show. I have 4-5 cultivars planted but to date, only Lemon Lime and lemon Star have saluted. some were grown from seeds I got from 9kitty.

My amarayllis are starting to put up flower stalks in my basement.
Gotta plant 'em up soon! Love to see them outside.

I'm on a business trip and enjoying a break looking at all the bloom.
Thanks guys!

Soils - I actually had to pull a number of wheel barrel loads full of
roads to plant in that bog garden. I'll have to post a picture after I
did a little spring maintenance on it. It looks so ratty with the
grass and weeds growing into the rocks. Nothing like nice sharp
edges to make a bed!

The Amaryllis are beautiful. I got 2 huge Red Lions as a bonus last year and planted them in the border. They bloomed lovely, over Wintered fine, sent up tidy leaves and one has a bloom stalk coming. Here's our receptionist Amber with her vauze of bearded iris "Beatrice". Huge, ruffled and scented. Candlelabra branching, loaded with mauve blooms. I have this for trade along with "stitchwitch" if anyone's interested.

ladybug_pc ~ The snow is melting...again! I hope that this will be the last of it, and I could use a break from the rain as well as it is so soggy! I need to weed, cultivate and plant!

The daffs are bending over and even the tulips in the color bowl in the front of the house are bent over...I guess because they are not down 6"?? I have not seen this before as tulips usually stay nice and straight.

It is nice and sunny, though still not over 40° yet....It is supposed to be warm by Saturday...yeah! Still, I am not ready for summer, though...just too many extremes...I just hope it does go right into summer without a month of moderate temps...is anyone else having these extreme fluctuations???

Evelyn- Everytime I look at your snow pictures I go back and look at your zone again just to be sure it has not changed from the last time I was looking. I simply can not believe such weather this time of year in a zone 8. You must be ready top scream with frustration.

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

It must be up there in elevation to get those wild temperature swings this time of the year? The same thing probably happens in the early fall?

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

We live at 3500' in elevation, with snow every year, and long, hot summers. Some years it just goes from winter to summer, but hopefully I will have at least a month of moderate temps, as that will be the minimum I will need to get things in order, if I can...

Zone 8 minimum temps 10°, right? I think it only got down to 17° this winter, but the power was out for 4 days as it was a state-wide storm with many accidents and power poles down. I think that was in December. No pictures as both computers went out, and I forgot to retrieve the pictures from them. We are equipped to be prepared for at least one power outage a winter, as we keep a full pantry in our basement and keep the freezer door shut.

Rita ~ Your tulips are beautiful! I hardly saw any of mine this year, as we have squirrels and deer, though they were sprayed, and it usually works..also the erratic weather patterns might have something to do with them not showing up...I will have to do further investigation. do you not have deer? Or are these behind fencing? DH has been waiting for Estella Reijnveld...I hope she isn't gone...I did not plant any last fall, thinking there would be some from the previous year. I think this daff is 'Stainless'

I love the aztec lily! Do you grow it inside ?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Love the aztec bloom. Mine did not bloom last year. Nancy those can be grown outside here.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

No, there are no deer here in Nassau County of Long Island, NY. There sure are plenty of deer further out on the east end of Long Island but thankfully not this far west.

I bought about 370 tulip bulbs from Brent and Beckies already for fall so that I will have lots more tulips next spring. They really are very pretty so I want more.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

My Aztecs are blooming inside but will be outside for the summer. They are in large container with Peruvian daffodils and Gloriosas pictured here in basement next to (fluorescent) spring coleus nursery. Hopefully all the large basement overwintered pots will get outside in the next couple of weeks.

Sun Lakes, AZ(Zone 9b)

Oh my, what a wonderful looking indoor growing area in the winter. Your Aztecs bloomed there just near the fluorescent light? The pot doesn't appear to be directly under the light. Is it?
Marie, do they need a lot of water here? Do you have them in a shady spot?

Nice pictures goldenfish.
Nancy I probably water them a couple of times a week.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nancy, I imagine the Aztecs would have bloomed even in the dark under the staircase. The large container was moved to the area of the fluorescents because that is the area I de-pot and re-pot for the new season. I figured moving the container there would serve as an ever-minder to do my spring duties. Alas, it's still there (got to 6 blooms) and still awaits my ministrations. Beginning tomorrow...

Very nice Karldan. Speaking of lime green, I've always been curious about the lime green Kniphofia pumila (Dwarf Red Hot Poker) offered by Plant Delights. It sure is interesting looking. Did your Kniphofia seedling take two years to get your first blooms?

Norfolk, VA(Zone 8a)

Seeds planted in March bloomed next April-May. Same as last years seedlings, blooming now. I hybridized 2 of the fasted growing/blooming ones last year, this one, and one with shorter fatter bloom spikes. Several growers listed here offer the various species.

Thanks for the information. Just one new photo from this morning. This is Amaryllis "Appleblossom" nestled in between the Hibiscus and Snapdragons.

glad "Blues". what a lovely pastel blue this is. The are reg. sized glads and I'm afraid I didn't plant deeply enough b/c they're floping big time. Don't know whether I will replant after they're done blooming or whether I'll just corral them w/ a tomato cage. Got fron B&B in 2009
