I just renewed my membership...not ready to jump ship yet...and Dave sounds like he will be able to enjoy himself more now that he can relax, get back to trading seeds and plants and bestowing his voluminous knowledge on us. It would be selfish to expect him to give that up.

Now that he doesn't have to worry over IT stuff like a mother hen. Father hen. Wait...that's not quite right...oh well, it's late.

Nighty-night.

Personally, I think that the devolvement of this thread into utter nonsense & hilarity speaks volumes about us DG'ers for Mr. Thai's benefit, so ignore the hovering police copter, folks, carry on!

Jar - I want to laugh some more !......Far as I'm concerned laughter is great medicine - where do I find the Picture Dog thread?

Anyone?

dave - I've only been a member for a week now- still trying to get my bearings- just wanted to say that you've built a great place full of wonderful folks and I feel confident that it will carry on and prosper.
Enjoy your free time, you have obviously earned it.

Look forward to lots of great times, helpful gardening information, and comraderie with you all!

KAT:
I just read this at work and nearly fell off my chair. Thanks for starting my day off on a laugh!!!.

Warren Center, PA(Zone 5b)

Almost two weeks, over 1,000 post, probably over 20,000 hits to the original thread and we are blessed with 2 post from the new administrator. Is it me or is something lacking here. If IB is so intent on managing this site then where are they?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that will be one of the "changes" folks have been talking about. IB is too big to personally monitor and chat here. That role has been delegated to Terry and Mel, I would think, and they have been posting.

Don

Warren Center, PA(Zone 5b)

Again, maybe it's just me but if your going to take the attitude that you are to important to reply to your members than at least have the decency to say " I'm sorry folks but I have more important things to do than to chat with you, please address your concerns to Terry or Melody.

Crossville, TN

*yawn*...Goodmorning...7:00 comes earlier and earlier doesn't it...The caffieine in that fudge kept me awake for hours!! I must stop eating chocolates at bedtime ...soon.

Since Michael is a hour later than me, we still have a couple of hours to play before he gets here...but I will wish him a "G'day, Mate" now, for I have a social even to attend this morning (In Senior Speak that means a Doctor's appointment!) Jo

Warren Center, PA(Zone 5b)

Not to change the subject but does any one know if the " Groundhog " saw his shadow, I don't know if I am ready for six more weeks of winter. I've had enough and want to get out into my garden, white is nice but the colors of spring are way to beautiful to be delayed any longer.

Marlton, NJ

Yes he saw his shadow.

Warren Center, PA(Zone 5b)

Jo--- I love that " A Social Event " I always called mine a " Date with a blind man "

Warren Center, PA(Zone 5b)

Darn, but I guess when you shine 6,000,000 watts of lights on his hole there isn't much chance he won't see his shadow.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

After almost 70 years of this event I have never figured it out. If he sees his shadow??????? Then what?

Hap

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Ya know if you really look at the calendar and when Spring actually starts it makes no big difference if he sees his shadow or not it's all about 6 wks anyway LOL

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well if we had that new and improved search engine we need....

(hint, hint IB!)

....I would pull up the P Phil thread that went around in a previous year. It was quite funny.

No doubt they are busier than we are! If we were actually busy people, we wouldn't be here all day - and night - carrying on like someone just kidnapped our kids.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Spring will hopefully show when some particular signs in the heavens come together for what is called the spring eqinox(?). However that isn't a hard and fast rule in my opinion as I have seen heavy snows the end of April and the last frost date for MidMO is usually around mid May.I have also seen spring begin in early March and actually stay around.

We really are getting way off topic on this thread and it may well be shut down for that reason.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

LOL, how true.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Micheal stated in his opening post that he welcomes Private Dmail.

Quoting:
ps - many thanks to those of you that sent me a dmail. I am always appreciative of direct contact and feedback.

Also that Terry and Melody will be basically the public face here.

Quoting:
Luckily, Terry and Melody are experts in this and have agreed to stay on and be the key points of contact between you and us.

If you have major questions/concerns use these resources.
That's why they we put/left in place.

As for off topic.....
I really don't remember any Threads not dissolving into some sort of frivolity after a time.
Terry and Melody are experts in 'Cat Herding' if they don't have a problem why should I?

As for the Ground Hog.....
Stew at My place.... 6:30 PM ....... Casual Dress..... BYOB.... Hot Tub opens at 8 PM

Ric

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Ric, only if you've boiled it for two days before you made the stew. talk about tough!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Nah he's a fat pampered celebrity Ground Hog.
Like those Celebrity Chefs or Martha he should do well w/ a nice wine braise then a slow simmer in the veggies.
Though I'd probably poach Martha....... ;-)

Thanks for your post miguelthai. I will comment that it is my perspective that when I pay for a service, that service doesn't come with advertising in my face. Advertising pays for free services. I won't do both.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We have 10 people out shoveling snow trying to find the ground hogs hole. When we do we still hope he's in there. He won't see his shadow anyway.
Snowing right now.

Ric, hot tub sounds good.
I have some good homemade salsa I could bring to dip the meat in.

Bernie

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Ric,

Turn up the heat in the hot tub and throw in a few sacks of crawfish. I'll be there.

What about when you buy a subscription to a magazine or newspaper? Or purchase access to cable tv? No ads there?

Just sayin.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

Yep, divided sky. They double-charge too. Doesn't mean its right.

OK, I was up late, is that some kind of euphemism...? ^_^

I got desserts, and will BYO several Bs. A hot tub will be nice. We're getting our snow back today.

Change can be good. I am not upset with IB, the other company NameMedia or is it MediaName? should of let Dave know from the get go what was going on out of respect for the man that started it all.
Silver lining maybe
Dave and his family are free to create........ having 10 years expreince on DG is a very good thing.
Dave can enjoy the threads and talk to you all more, even do some trading .
Maybe Dave can garden more!
Maybe IB put in place some of the changes that Dave wanted to do .

Just my thoughts.

Nope grrr no euphemism.
I figure she's kind of a cold fish so poaching would be called for.... ;-)

Quote from KatG :
Dave, Spike and Michael all walk into a bar. The Bartender greets them and say’s… Hey Guy’s, you’re just in time as we’re ready to give away our daily “Who had the crappiest day giveaway for $100 bucks”

Dave pipes up and say’s…I think I deserve the $100 the most. Here I am, I built this company from the ground up and made it the most successful garden website in history. And now since it’s been taken over by Michaels company, I am now only regarded as a member.

Spike sit’s there thoughtfully and say’s…Dave, I know what you mean. Since I sold my website I haven’t had much to do and I’ve spent all my time and money in Orlando at Disney. Nobody will talk to me there! I think I really need the $100 bucks the most!

They look at Michael who is sitting there reading 100’s of messages from Dave’s Garden members on his I-phone. He suddenly stops and orders a double shot of Tequila.
Downs it down and orders another!

They both ask him if there is something wrong.

There’s something wrong alright!

A female DG member just emailed me and told me that I could kiss her sweet Hypertufa, I didn’t read the entire thing as I got a little alarmed, but she used terms like Dead head, Leach, Pest, Sucker, Heap of Compost, Fertilizer, Knocking-out, Succulent. I really don’t appreciate being referred to, or threatened like that!

Both Dave and Spike smiled at each other and reached in their pockets and gave Michael $50 each!

ooooooooooohhhh

Original Pretend Message! I think Michael may be a skim-reader!

Dear Michael:

I have a beautiful HYPERTUFA Planter that is in a sweet south facing sun-kissed location. I have planted annual flowers in it which I DEAD-HEAD constantly. I don’t like to water too much as it may LEACH the soil. Aphids could be a real PEST, but a HEAP OF COMPOST or some FERTILIZER can really keep my pot growing well. Sometimes I have to do some KNOCKING OUT just to check the condition of the root ball. May have to plant a SUCCULENT or two to add some interest! What do you think?

Edited to include E-Mail message from scary female DG member!

This is GREAT!

My first vision was of a Grateful Dead show I went to years back at a rainy music festival but for some reason I don't think that's what you had in mind. :)

But you did get the tequila right!

of course, we all want our privacy, and the main reason i signed up to this sight was because i knew it was safe!
i just would hate to see that changed....
i really hope everything works out ok, but unfortunately i am not very positive.
i wish IB would give us some more solid, truthful answers!

We will be honoring the existing privacy policy here on Dave's.

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

Well, look at it this way...The site has been under new ownership for how long now and do you see anything that has changed?

Encino, CA(Zone 9a)

Quote from tomatofreak :
I don't think anyone has asked this question: Will subscriptions continue? If so, will there be different levels? I no longer remember what I got as a non-subscriber so can you talk about that?

Subscriptions will certainly continue. In fact we have a few other sites (FitDay was mentioned earlier and we have a few others) that incorporate Subscriptions and we think they are a great opportunity for the "tried and true" devotees of the site to both help with the financial situation of the site but in exchange get access to more features, be able to opt out of seeing ads, etc.

I am attempting to follow the thread as much as possible. Unfortunately it isn't (and won't be) in real time as I do have a number of other responsibilities (including those to my family when I get home at night).

Fundamentally we (IB) will have a presence here on the site but if you need anything urgent, Dave, Terry and Melody are best placed to respond and to alert me and my team if need be - and that includes the weekends.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Michael does have a sense of humor!!! (bar story)LOL!

Thanks also for answering the assurance of the privacy policy and the opt out membership notes also.

Those of you who want to wish Terry a happy birthday today ....go here.
The birthday cake is served!
