I don't think anyone has asked this question: Will subscriptions continue? If so, will there be different levels? I no longer remember what I got as a non-subscriber so can you talk about that?

Now! just why have you shut the other thread down?!

Juney...

I think that They are trying to get this whole thing centered. IMHO.

Michael - Thanks for starting a new thread and for taking the time to post.

As you have probably concluded, everyone here has strong opinions and fears about what will happen to this wonderful website and resource as well as an amazingly unique and busy community of friends. I always thought that the name should have been, "Dave's Friends". :-)

Dave and Trish mean a lot of most of us. He walks the talk about gardening and community. He is a friend to everyone who has met him. And he has put YEARS of hard work designing and creating all the many things that make this site one of the best on the internet. He really cares about this community which he developed and built piece by piece over a period of 10+ years as a labor of love.

I think many of us see IB as a big company that won't be emotionally invested in DG like Dave is. Probably everyone here has had to deal with Big Companies throughout our lives and often it is a frustrating and disappointing encounter. I truly hope that your company proves that isn't true of IB!

Thank you for keeping Terry and Melody on staff. They are both worth their weight in gold. As are many others that run this site like greased lightning! I hope you consider keeping the others on staff as well. This is a huge site and I can't imagine just two admins doing all the work. It could become overwhelming if it continues to grow as it has over the past 10 years! :-)

Please keep us posted on the changes we can expect. And I hope that you keep the advertising to a minimum for paid subscribers. I, too, would not find it advantageous to be bombarded with ads, pop-ups, and other annoying advertising. Create an advertising forum instead. Let businesses offer discounts to DG members. I know folks would go there to see what discounts and coupons to get from vendors. Just a thought!

I hope IB will allow our beloved DG to remain true to the purpose ... for gardeners, by gardener.

Thanks for starting this thread! I have marked it to be a "watched' thread and hope to hear more. :-)

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm confused why any of this is our business? Yes, I know I paid a subscription, but does that give me the right to know everything??

The other thing is a repeat of what someone else said...Dave sold the site. When you sell something, you surely know that things change.

Are people seriously stilll having pop-ups? Wow!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Juney, even if he's a saint he probably has reached his limit with the yammering & figured it has all been said by now.

If so, I heartily agree with him.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

YUP!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

You both can click "unwatch thread" and not be bothered by what goes on unseen. By shutting down an active thread, IB just jumped into the garden with jackboots on. It strikes me as a draconian measure and I am uneasy...

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh, knock it off, Juney. Don't tell me that, if I don't like something, I should go elsewhere. That's such a cop-out. Would you like it if IB said that to YOU?

Triad(for a few more, NC(Zone 7a)

I sort of agree terry. When a restaurant or store closes or changes owners that you patronize, you either stop patronizing it or continue or find a new store, I guess I am not understanding why everyone is so impassioned about this. If IB screws it up then we ALL just create a new site, what is the big deal? I am sure with all the incredibly talented people on this site we could come up with another good one if we have to.

Too bad it isn't June, then we could all be outside focused on other things.

We all agree, Dave is the best, he is awesome to have created this site, we all love it and him, but geeez, come on, is this really life altering?

Ok, I'll go find some new friends now that I have alienated all of the ones I had here.

Agreed! And, I'll be your friend. =)

I am UN-watching this thread and leaving the problems of the universe to others. I am going back to just enjoying DG and having fun.

Not to sound like a jerk, but I feel the need to put things in perspective. My husband and I are very close to losing our home since he has been out of work for 16 months, I have a spinal injury that limits my work load significantly, my sister up North is having health issues, I lost a brother last year, last week my brotherin law died and yesterday I found a lump in my breast and am going to the Dr. Friday.

I come to DG for stress relief and kindness and the enjoyment of my passion for gardening, if DG goes away or changes to the point I do not ENJOY it any longer, I simply leave. I do not have to be a Norma Rae and change something I cannot control.

Everyone needs to chill out and enjoy life.

See ya on the OTHER threads,
LOVE, Susan

We have been locking these serial threads as new ones are started - it keeps everything moving in one direction, and makes it much easier for everyone to keep up with the conversation, instead of having the same information repeated in numerous threads.

Thanks for the explanation

Thankyou for posting.

I understand that IB has alot of technical resource s and that yes there are areas that IB's team can work on to enhance the site technically and maybe do some fine tune tweaking.

But this is my question and comment. Are you , or who is the final voice here. You have said that respect needs to be built. So very true. Dg is also a site I imagine alot different than what you and your team are used too.

I am glad Terri and Melody are staying on, you made a wis e choic e there. You will find over time just how valuable they can and will be. I know they won't let you down.

Since day one and even through the buy out from NM Dave has been at the helm. As you can see by this Dave's forum, when folks have questions they come here hunting for answers. Who is goign to be here to answer the questions day and night? And they do come day and night?

Through all the growth and all the past changes, Dave has been the final voice of authority. It take s an extraordinary person to manage not onyl the building of this site, is technical running, but a single personality that over a long..long period of time that has built respect of folks. Dave has earned that respect. When folks come to Dg, they know what to expect, how to conduct on this site is expected to be and the consequences if and when folks get out of line.

I have been on alot of other site s and belong to other sites, but no where on the web have I found a site with such a magnitude of member s and non-members are so efficently handled by one person.

Due to some of our own selfish natures, w e may not always agree with decisions at the time, but do recgonize and respect the authority of Dave. I hope that your teams of techie s are able to enhanc e and make the site run smoothe r and better, and that it doe s help free up Dave to have some free time and enjoy himself and his family, but I do sincerely hope that Dave is left in charge of the people as a mass. He would be invaluable a s a voice for as a go between for the tech side. He is after all one person and can onyl do so many site changes at one time, but I think if you keep him in the authority position he ha s been sinc e the begining and even through the first buy-out, you will find the change s and transitions and adjustment s will go much smoother and can only help to enhance your future goals for the site and the blending of your other advertising areas in with Dg.

It is my sincere hope that you and your team become the enhancing techs of the site to help it grow and that Dave is the human aspect and authority of the people here.

I've kept most of my concerns and opinions to myself while reading what everyone else had to say about this. I've learned not to react too fast to things. After reading everything on these threads and giving myself time to process it all, I've decided I'm not willing to give up on a site that has given me so much for so many years. I plan to stay. I'll stay as long as it feels like the home on the web it has been for me. As long as it doesn't start feeling like a cold and impersonal website like so many others do. And as long as the subscriber fees don't get so high I can't afford them.

I very much enjoy contributing to the plant files and building my dairy and journal. But I'm going to wait and see what policies might change regarding them before I continue adding anything else.

My hopes are that we are all just thinking the worse. And a year or two down the road, we will all look back at this to realize there was nothing to worry about. I'm very much a cynic and I don't trust easily. Trust has to be earned with me. And I REALLY don't trust big corporations. I see them as greedy and lacking in good character. They couldn't care less who they have to step on to get to the top. One of the best things about Dave's garden was the fact that it was run by someone (Dave) completely the opposite of this. That to me, is why Dave's Garden can't be Dave's Garden without Dave. And not just as a member. I hope that my cynical little mind is proven wrong. We shall see.

I recall the day i stumbled onto Daves, thru the Watch Dog....

for the subscribers only forums, i was able to read the first post of a thread topic... but could not go any farther.
and the other morning, i was reading a thread.... left for about 5 min then came back [my subscrip just ended] and i no longer could read past the first message of the thread i was currently reading not 5 min earlier.

I have to admit... I hope it stays the way it is.

I too have been following this issue, but like Joy, keeping my thoughts to myself until the dust settled. But Joy has said exactly what I am thinking at this time, so I have to chime in and say ditto.

I, too have been the object of a corporate, ahhh, let's call it "transition"...and as she and others have said, it's not usually pretty for the Little People. The Big Guys come in smiling, but they don't usually become the Big Guys because of principles. There are exceptions. The buy-out I was involved in had such an impact on me, I have remained self-employed ever since.

Rather than scrolling back to say who said it, I, too believe in reading between the corporate lines. I've learned through the years it's not always what is said or how it's said, but often-times it is what is NOT said that comes in to bite you.

Remaining open-minded and hoping for the best, but am leary...
Not planning on going anywhere yet...again, Joy has stated my sentiments quite well. Thank you, Joy.

Terry - It would be good if you would place a final post on that thread as to why it is being stopped. It really concerned me, and I had no idea what was going on until I read your post here. You might stop a lot of rumors if you did that... I thought we were being censored.

Ennis, MT(Zone 4a)

Well, that would not be a change. Dave posted that he deleted 20 posts in one of the preceding threads.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Micheal thanks attempting to clear things up.

If you want to know what is going on w/ IB all you have to do is buy a share on NASDAQ.
It was trading at $7.93 at the close today.
Up $.10 or 1.277%

No conspiracy mulch IF that was really Terry posting ...... hmmmmmm...... lol!

Edited to say I was one of those whose post was removed on a previous Thread.
It was for violation of Policy.
I was not violating but trying to cool things down and asked Admin to step in.
Dave DMailed me and totally explained what was going on.
No conspiracy there either.

ceejay, when you scroll down to the bottom of any "locked" thread, it will say it has been locked to new replies. We use this occasionally when the need arises.- it's nothing new and hopefully not scary to anyone ;o)

It's either me or my son's cat stomping across my keyboard. But she's not a good speller, and she's pretty snarky most of the time. I'd like to think there could be no confusion between the two of us ;o)
