Wow...I am feeling like a ping pong ball here!!! But things are moving nicely...I finally figured out what I have to do to visit everyone here, stop in at the cafe, and still work............SHUT IT OFF!!! lol...........I am writing an article and rewarding myself by reading and posting........then writing another article and rewarding myself.....problem is I get caught up reading and checking everything out and researching plants and making wish lists and getting jealous because Blondie has sunshine in her picture and, and , and.............so I am up at 3:35 am still writing my articles! lol

Have a great day.............I preset the coffee pot so it should be done brewing and nice and hot when you all wake up. Fresh fruit cut up in the fridge for you all too..........

Hi Everyone!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I'm sticking with DG until something runs me off - lol. The other site is cool as well, but it's not DG. My time will mostly be spent here with time there as I can.

Al - I think we can think of it as Plan B, just in case we all need to find each other if something happens to DG. Even though I think I have a way to contact most all of you or someone I know does, so we'll be a-ok!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone
Al I'll be popping in here off and on like always. Busy sowing seeds or being lazy depending on my mood so not posting much.
Thanks Kelly for the info.

Let me know when the thread is too long...ok? You can all be sure I am still here..rain or shine sleet or snow......I may not know what day it is but here i am,,,,

My subscription is up in May. I plan on renewing. I enjoy talking to everyone here. I can talk in lots of places some more hectic than others. The resources are here for my interest in Gardening. I will be sending seeds in for Newbies just like always. Newbies will come here and it's fun and rewarding to help them get started. I won't be discussing my business here there are other sites for that. Just quiet relaxing chit chat about two of my favorite subjects, you and gardening.

Enjoy the superbowl! I'm off and waiting. LOL

Let's start fresh Arejay!

Are we to keep our conversations here strictly for gardening? I get off topic ALOT! I garden around my life, kinda all goes together for me. Today the baby ate his first sphagnum moss - I just hope there isn't some wierd fungus on it! This spring it will be dog poop and dirt so guess he better get used to it! Gardening is hard on babies but he is gonna have to be out there.

Has anyone tried growing potatoes in a trash bag? I have some of those really big, tough contractor bags and wondered how they would do.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Anything goes here candles... We are famous for getting off topic (ie: talking about things other than gardening - lol)...

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Lori - You can grow potatoes in just about anything big enough to hold them. The problem would be finding bags strong enough to hold the soil for any length of time before breaking. I've grown them in 5 gallon plastic recycle pails as a 4H project and also half wine barrels with great success. Would think that any fairly large container would work fine. Like any large plant they have to be kept well watered. Maybe you could double or triple up the bags to make them stronger.

I was looking for the YouTube video on growing trash can potatoes. That was a cool idea. You just dumped the whole thing out to harvest. I'll keep looking.

This maybe it: http://www.almanac.com/video/growing-potatoes-trash-can-video

This is a picture of an artichoke flower. I grew several in Calif. mostly for the flowers. But I usually ate 1 or 2 of the larger artichokes. The artichoke that you eat is actually the bud of the flower. They do not like cold. But I did grow one in Bakersfield, which can get down in the teens some winters. I had it in a protected area so it did well.
