They look like very small birdhouse gourds. They are only about 2 in to 4 in tall. The ones that are 2 in or less, I make into pendants, with pieces of polished stone mounted in them. I leave them natural colors and just put a clear finish on them to make them shine. You can also make ear rings out of really little ones.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Visit with friends...
I've never seen gourds small enough to make earings Mary..do you have any photo's you can share? Do you have problems curing the gourds?
Time for bed...
Best of today..going to see Noah play hockey..I was told that everyone this side of hell could hear me yell
Worse of today...Noah losing his game 3-2..NOT FAIR..almost 1/2 the opponent team were in the goal area on top of him...drats...
What did I learn today..now I remember why I quit going to games...my adrenaline's just a pumping...
My goalie...
I don't have any pictures right now, but will look thru my stock and see if I can come up with one of the pendant. I've not had the chance to make the ear rings yet, but had someone in Calif tell me how to do it. So this year I am growing small mini gourds and going to give it a try. The pendant I did has an amethyst in it.
I know how one can get...I have two nephews that were excellent Hockey/LaCrosse players in school (to the point of scholarships and scouts until they ended up with some sports injuries) and you almost could not be around my sister when her boys were playing.
Have a good night.
Sounds adorable..anxious to see photo's...so many talented people here at DG...
Kettle's boiling so off I go..
Night night everyone, good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow!
The gourd jewelry sounds fascinating!!
How are you feeling Trisha?
Thought of you today Trisha..was looking at sewing machines and there were machines that felted...said no thread needed, I'm not quite sure how that works but do you use a felting machine when you do your felting art?
Feeling great except my throat is still sore during the night and early part of the day....very weird and I wish it would go away. Doctor says it is viral and just has to run it's course:(
Never heard of a machine like that....no mine is just a hand held needle with a lot of up and down motion!
Hi Tubby, so glad to hear you are feeling better.... I think we are all ready for spring to arrive!
evening all,
bev you are the bomb with your photos
i just love all the pics you take so talented hows scotty doing?
jaye ok i'll try it for a week lol
hope you feel better.
judy yep fried food for another year he he he
oh kenny said this morning next year were going back to chicago but i think i want to go in jan or feb so i will be putting funds away not going to happen this year :(((
gosh darn it! and he said he will bring home another debris box think a 15 yard box yaaaaay more throwing out junk then more garage sales i'll empty out this house of all clutter yet!
Betty! I forgot to tell you. Just before I got sick we had lunch with a friend at a French Bakery down town. I had my very first ever Butter Tart!!! OHhhh, now I know what you and Marion are always talking about, they are wonderful!!!! Wish I had one right now!
Liz when you are through emptying yours will you empty mine for me?? I don't seem to have much luck doing it myself:(
Betty - Kyle never ceases to amaze...goalie is a VERY hard job...the hardest!
Congrats for his effort... I can just picture you screaming at the top of your lungs for him!
Hello Mary! I also grow Oregano, chives and sweet basil! The Oregano actually still looks alive after the freezes we have had! My sweet basil was sweetly invasive this year...and I let it be! I LOVE sweet basil! it can grow anywhere it likes...just fine by me... and my chives..well - almost killed them...but they are struggling along...
Waving to all...crissy, judy, liz, lk, bev, tubby, deb, etc. etc. etc....
Hugs,
Mary
Bev, Scotty and Tubby would make a good pair..neither want the hospital..can understand but it sounds as though Scotty should be hospitalized for a bit...tell him there are pretty young nurses who would tend to him..lol..
Trisha, hope you've had a good night sleep..viral issues can take forever to mend themselves..just have to be patient..did he give you meds or is it something that nothing he gives can help..I'll look up those felting machines today..I thought they were rather inexpensive, looks just like a sewing maching..if I remember correctly they were between $300-500.....
Your herbs both Mary's sound yummy...seeing as I don't cook I don't plant herbs but guess having them in the house would provide a nice odor wouldn't they?
Liz, can't even imagine how much treasures you must have to need another green dumpster??? took out cups/saucers to make pin cushions this morning..had to glue the cup to the saucer and I thought of you..know of all the antiques you have and was thinking just how many I could make if I had yours..lol
Now you tell that Kenny it's Canada time not Chicago time...lots to see here as well...as for Judy, she and Steve are close enough that they could take an extended long weekend and come...truly looking forward to that visit!
Well, better get motoring..garbage day.... Paul won't be in the office, Suzanne was ill yesterday so not sure she'll be in today, so it's just me and the girls...will get to play even more than usual so I must make sure to pack goodies to keep me occupied...
morning all,
Trisha lol i just cant believe all the junk one keeps and its truly junk!
i have no energy but when i walk to some rooms it hits me like a brick and then I'm in that throw it away mode so that's when it gets done lol
Betty, no I'm not even throwing out good stuff yet geez you know it would come your way, it is far too much crap and it needs to go, basically its stuff that has a chip or half broken or the stuff, hey i can turn this into.....
well been sitting on it for years done nothing with it so it needs to go lol
wow that is something for me to say lol
i have been practicing this at work my boss cant believe I'm letting things go of things
and actually it feels pretty good to trash it. oh i remember the pin cushions there so cute
have mini tea cups still have to drag out to garage and drill some holes into to hang some crystals from them for the tea cup bird feeders geez more unfinished projects,
will tell Kenny that one and in fact he wants to go to Chicago in the winter time gawd don't know why? me who snivels when it gets lower that 45/50 lol
and now i got a year to get a passport.
hello everyone else, tubby how are you feeling?
Morning everyone. Betty, how was your ride to work? Hope your roads are clear, and no accidents on the way? Don't work too hard today. Those cup and saucer pincushions sound pretty, please post pictures when they are done?
Just got into work, nice out, few flurries, not freezing cold..
Suzanne is in today and can barely keep anything down, has her door closed, sure wish she had stayed home..just what I want, come down with cold/flu..
No sooner had I gotten to work June called to say she had dropped in yesterday afternoon to local quilt group in the church and saw my quilt..said it's fabulous...called Nellie who is in charge, said normaly they charge $250. but it will be $350.00 for this one..said I'd easily get $1,500. for it...not that I'll be selling, mom did it all cross stitch..won't be putting it on any bed either so it's such a shame, get it, put it in a bag and store it...they said most likely it will be done in 2 to 3 more weeks as most of their quilters will be away...so I'd best start saving my pennies..lol...
Cathy called last night to tell me about all the fish she's been catching..wanted me to go ice fishing..she's got an aluminum hut..not for me but enjoy hearing her enthusiasm...
Here a few photo's of yesterday's catch
Betty that machine sounds interesting, how would you felt without felt? LOL That's awesome you get into his game like that! When I used to go to my more athletic than I friends games, or any professional game, I used to come back home without a voice.
Hi Liz!! Tubby, Judy, and everyone!
Nice Fish! Those would look really good in my frying pan, or on my broiler... What kind of fish are they?
Know nothing about the machine Crissy, I was looking up to see the cost of the machines and this one came up on the Janome site...
Have to find out about the fish..think they are pike..
Trisha here's the site:
http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/janome-fm725-embellisher.php
Might have nothing to do with the type of felting you do..it just caught my attention when it said NO thread
Morning all.
Fully recovered from that stomach flu as I have broke fever this morning! Yayy.. but before I take the necessary shower, thought I'd pop in. Thank God you can't smell me!
I do hope you won't catch what Suzanne has. Bummer... she should stay home. That will pull you down more.
Yep, Betty, Kel took great care of me. He was actually happy in his solitude watching tv in the great room. Hehehe.. you guessed it, he has the remote control all to himself!
Seen a Viking felting machine, and it fetches around 300 brand new. Don't know how it works.
Tubby, my DH is QUICK to see a doctor for anything except for a stomach flu. Since his brother was diagnosed with brain tumor, he won't take any chances. But his father's a different story.
Doctors said that his stroke's preventative if only he'd get an annual physical.
Bev, your pictures are awesome!! Are they all on FB? Don't know which is my favorite.. but that scene of limbs draped in snow is hard to beat.
Sending Scotty my T&P
Waving to Liz~Mary from BR~ Sweet Judy~ Crissy~ LK~ Herb Mary~~
Have a fantastic day, stay warm!
It's raining outside, so I'll try to finish one sewing project. I joined the 9 patch swap as it doesn't have a deadline, so that's doable for me.
Oh my!!! That's a macro shot of what, Bev?? FB--Facebook.
Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter :((
Crissy
Hi to you
Heavan
Well I'am seeing a DR..............
When she asks to......................
Tubby
Tubby, that's a wise wife you got there.
Take good care of yourself, you hear?
Jaye, Wiarton Willie predicted the same...hasn't been a terrible winter so far..just think, we can already say, next month I may see grass...
Glad Kel looked after you and am laughing at the remote control..lordy Roger was bad with it..we'd be watching a good movie, commercial would come on and he'd switch, get into that show and on the next commercial return to original show we were watching and it was over..never knew the ending of any show....think it's a man thing...
Carol, the lady I paint with (20 years) is in Florida with hubby..just e-mailed me to ask for a photo of the cement bird bath that was done with sea shells..says she's enjoying walking the beach and will pick bags for me...she insists that I have all the Christmas craft girls over in the spring and they all do the baths and cement leaves...guess I'll have my work cut out for me...
Mom called 3 times this morning..wants to go to buffalo this weekend so I told her providing there is no storm I'll take her and we'll bring Aunt Muriel to her friends who live in St. Catherines which is only 20 minutes from Buffalo on Canadian side ..she can visit with them this weekend and we'll pick her up on our return Sunday...
Know my boys will be concerned but it will be relaxing and the fact that I'm only miles from the Canadian side should make them more at ease..kids!!!!
I'm in a few swaps that if I organize myself properly and can mail from the USA side and avoid custom delays...of course you know I'm going to hit Joanne Fabrics and Christmas Tree shops
That is a fascinating machine....I have never done flat felting...
Felting is where you take wool roving, flatten it and punch with barbed needles to produce picture, appliques, little 3-d animals and people.
http://www.thesilverpenny.com/FreeProjectNeedleFelting.html this is video of one type of flat felting that would work well with the machine mentioned above.
don't want to look...lol...likely would find myself interested in yet another craft...going to leave the felting to the pro's...you
OMG!! You get that from pine needles??? Wow!! Beautiful Bev.
It took me hours to create one stack and whack kaleidoscope from fabrics!!
Yep, not getting into felting here. Still didn't do anything with the all that clay stuffs and the wooden art.. for now finding time for my sewing machine is difficult enough.
Trisha, when you're ready for quilting let me know!
Hello To All !
"Herb Mary" I LOVE that ! At least SOME of my Herbs are still around after the Freeze we had..
Pop back on in a bit...
Mary
Hi everyone!!
LOL Betty, yes us kids do worry about our parents driving all over ten buck two!
I have all kinds of stuff popping up, of course then we got that ice storm so I don't know the damage, been at work everyday since.
Waving to everyone!! I'll see ya'll later!!
Good morning and Happy Wednesday!
Yay, week almost half way done, and one more day closer to spring.
Oh Bev, you know I just adore your kaleidoscope images' and the one of the pine leaves are marvelous!
Wow, so sorry to hear Scotty is not well, I sure hope he is gets to feeling better...maybe as the weather warms he will.
Hi Marti! It's neat that you have an herb garden...So many beauties and such bounty, nothing like fresh picked to use for cooking.
LOL, the only herb I have is garlic, and they are somewhat wild in my yard...OMG, your Guards are adorable!! You sure do create some pretty birdhouses. And, am so happy you stuck with your paintings.
Oh Mary, I am glad some of your herbs have survived the winter, you will be amazed at where they pop up. Glad to see you.
Has work been crazy with the upcoming game? LOL, do you all have a bet on who's going to win? We always had an office pool for Superbowl.
Betty, yippeee, so glad you went to Noah's game! LOL, nothing like the proud gramma watching and hollering louder than anyone. so cute. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'm sure The kids gave it their best try and hopefully had fun, that's the most important, right.
Wow, What a catch!! Yep i think that is a Northern Pike too. LOL, in Flambeau, it would be hanging from someone's garage for sure.
Hi Linda kay, lol thanks for the pre b-day wishes! Well, I can relate to dad awaking so early, maybe he is still on Colorado time?
Steve does the same thing, he is so used to waking at 5:30 that he doesn't even need an alarm clock...I bet you could use a nap around 11:00.
Oh Liz, how funny, so glad you are making great progress on the cleaning! LOL, we probably could have gotten one too, ROFLOL, bet our garbage man wished we did! Brian, who came to help clean the tools, kept saying "Let it go, man...just let it go" That has now become the motto for all...
Oh which reminds me, Remember last year DH and Jacob built his bed up high, Mary you asked for a pic and I never took one. Welll, to my greatest surprise Jacob cleaned his room! So I snuck a pic while he was out! Will upload and post for you...LOL tho Liz can attest for it as I think Kenny had toss her up there!
No big celebration yesterday for my b-day...but one wish came true, I washed and pressed 2 new panels of curtains. Hahaha, they were in that closet DH cleaned for many years! Golly it took me almost 6 hours to iron them!!So getting them put up today and ohwah Shrine will be thouroughly clean and pretty! Big cheesy grin, yep a good reason to celebrate! Tonight We are going to dinner with the Cuz's.
Liz, Betty...I can't beleive I, just mailed the towels off and the ladies already recieving as of Monday!! And proud and Happy to say they Love them...Liz, I could just squeeze you to death for the idea.
And i am glad Linda Kay has been watching too...Barb! Can't wait for yours.
OK, well got the other 2 panels to iron and proceed with cleaning, Enjoy your day everyone.
OH Crissy, Yikes heard about Dave, just want to say...Hang in there girl. He is probably going through a delayed adjustment period. We did too and it was a little rattling for a short time.
Hi Jaye, can't wait for you to get your towel, maybe today. I am so glad your feeling better!
Also, waiving Hiya Tubby, so glad your being good...Hopefully your spirits are good and anxious with the coming Spring!
OMG,OMG...can't beleive, power just went out right as I was typing all of my post, shut my computer down!! Holy moly to my absolutel surprise, when brought it back my post was still here!!! OK, sending now, just in case....
