Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Visit with friends...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thank you Judy and Betty! I'm staying calm, going to write down my feelings as they happen, then if this issue comes up again, which I'm sure it will, I can get my emotions across the proper way.

I have my mom on the phone and she's going to have to get off because my cell phone is dying. She's feeling pretty good today, gingerly mopped the floor, cooked dinner, and some other things today, so that's a good thing.

Baton Rouge, LA

Just popping on....

Quiet night.... DH out of town and youngest DD at sleepover....

Prayers to Audrey and family.....

Betty you be careful on your travels...

The entire city of Baton Rouge (and New Orleans) is abuzz with the Saints in the Superbowl...that's ALL anyone is talking about...

I'm worried about DH's high blood pressure for the game Sunday... Luckily the teens all found Superbowl parties to go to....so should just be DH and the TV (and me....quiet as can be when not cheering)...

Hugs
Mary

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, yes, there may be snowy roads to drive on. I might not go, this crud is coming back, I'm coughing again, and they wont let me stay with her the way I cough.
Thank all of you for the prayers! I just hope the surgery fixes her arm/hand. It's progressively getting worse.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Audrey hope all goes well, keeping you all in our prayers.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Keeping both of you in my prayers Audrey.
Sure hope Betty and her aunt and Mom are having a good time. I think the weather was going to be good but cold.
I've been busy sewing theis weekend. Small pieces for the table and a kids quilt for Downey Softener's project.
Hope all is well with you all....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Barb. Crocheting here until game time....I am not a football fan but mom, sis and nephew are Big Time Fans....so since sis is here from New York guess I have to play nice and watch foot ball :( At least DH has work as an excuse...he will come in once in awhile to see how the game is going, but I have never seen him watch a whole game....Now Baseball is a different story....that is OUR game!!

I would love to do some sewing again...it has been so long I have forgotten how, not even sure my machine works any longer...you know we want to see pictures!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Barb, what is the Downey Softener's project? Please explain?

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

downey softener co. is sponsoring quilts for kids

http://www.quiltsforkids.org/news/4/touch-of-comfort-partnership-with-downy/

you can make quilts to send to them, get a quilt kit from them to make...and / both

I actually saw a commercial today for it on the tv. and they are advertising in lots of quilting magazines....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks barefoot for explaining. The quilts come in kits with all the fabrics you need to make a small quilt. You piece the top, provide the batting, and quilt it. It then gets sent back to them. They ask if you can to make another with your own fabrics and send them back together. They are a very managable size and the fabrics they send are so cute..
Five of my quilting friends are making them with me.

Waving to all..got home totallly exhausted but had a wonderful weekend...

Mary, I'm so excited for you...fell asleep on the game, was watching but not understanding a thing as I know not 1 iota but I knew the team I wanted to see win...woke up at 3am, searched all the channels until they showed highlights of the winning team..said bet I know some who are celebrating...

Talk later

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty, glad to hear your home safe and sound. Hope you had a great week-end?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad to know you are safe Betty and that the weekend was great. Look forward to hearing about all the fun you had with Mom. What's new at Christmas Tree? And how was Cracker Barrel? and JoAnnes?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all...

Again, congrats to the Saints..pulled it off, did watch at the beginning and things didn't look positive, but lordy, they must have had a pow-wow, decided why they were there and went after it...p-a-r-t-y time...yehhhhh!

On Friday left as planned at 3pm..Aunt Muriel was here right on time..although hwy 400 was closed I decided to go to the furthest exit possible then take back roads..I was no sooner at the sign saying 'hwy 400 closed at 89' did the signage read open..ohh that was good..got to mom's at 4:15..thought we were taking her van but Jim (SF) was bringing ceramic tile to cottage and needed it so she quickly jumped in with her suitcase..we stopped for something to eat, had Aunt Muriel in St. Catherines by 7:00 and crossed the boarder at 7:45...one car ahead of us at border, young fellow was joking around..before you knew it we were shopping, mom at K-Mart and me at Joann's..I wanted to pick up fat quarters for my 'fat quarter' swap and wanted to mail Sat. morning so no time to waste...

Went in search of 'fat quarters' no fat quarters..they were doing inventory and almost everything was in warehouse being counted..said because the shelving was put away likely couldn't get any until next week...did give me the address of another Joann's, even called to find out if they had them .. so not all would be lost, I could buy them as soon as the store was open and have them at post office before noon...

All and all we were checked in, in our jammies, both of us doing crochet by 10:30pm...Sat. morning I was away by 5:00..hard to lay there not making a sound as not to wake mom...finally by 7 I had had enough of that, put t.v. on and told her we were going out for breakfast...just love Bob Evans...

Christmas Tree Store opens earlier than Joann's so did some shopping there..had to watch what I bought because having my car, small Aveo and still having to keep room for Aunt Muriel couldn't go hog wild..I somewhat did though...they had the cutest little metal cafe set, talk about lucky, it folded..also had matching plant stand, kept thinking how cute it would look on the back bedroom deck so of course it came home with me...I know I have to go back in a few weeks, they had on a 4x4 a 3 tier birdhouse, perfect for the garden I'll make near that back deck, also had book case type wall table with gingerbread cutting, perfect color, perfect size, but both wouldn't fit into the Aveo..next time, taking a bigger vehicle...

Found the post office before I found Joann's, had a box full of goodies, needing only the 'fat quarters', got inside and you could count on 1 hand how many they had in stock..salesclerk said they now have a new distributor and won't be stocking up on fat quarters like they always had..drats, that didn't make me happy...did manage to get material in the colors my swap partner wanted though, just not fat quarters..then I spent time looking at their flannel, Jeff had asked me to make him a 'rag quilt' ooohhh beautiful golf material..one showing grounds and the other golf balls and tees and matching backing, I was thrilled with that find..on my way home I stopped in Cookstown and bought a beautiful rag quilt pattern, think if I pick up non-print flannel and do a mix-match I might get one for Greg as well out of it...keeping my fingers crossed!

By 6pm on Saturday I was as tired as she was, picked up something to eat and rested..

Sunday morning we were having breakfast at Crackerbarrel at 7:30 am..of course a few pieces had to come home with me..

Other than the patio set and a few gardening items I did not buy myself anything...did however find a lot of mens' clothing for next to nothing..so all the clothing I usually get for the boys at Christmas time is now sitting in my closet waiting for Christmas..going to look where I put the christmas wrap and get them done..thrilled about those buys..omg the cutest little girls dress, bargain city, I've no little girls but Suzanne has, could resist..she's not in the office today so I put it on her desk..she'll appreciate it...

Know that my next year's trip will be on superbowl weekend..got to the border, not 1 car waiting at the border..young fellow was adorable, should have taken him home..when I asked why, he said it's never busy superbowl weekend...

Went to pick up Aunt Muriel, called as we were getting close, she was outside, trying not to be sick..2 minutes later she was vomitting..had to stop several times to pick up ginger ale...flu type symtoms..sure hope I don't get it...

All and all, enjoyed my weekend

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds like you had a good time. Mom must be exhausted - not you though, you can go for days on end. Hope Aunt Muriel is okay. Maybe just a slight bug from being travel weary???
Also sounds like you got some good bargains. We will be patient waiting for pictures.
While you were gone, I finally got the thread catcher directions out. Of course, what happens? Norm's sister and hubby show up. So much for that. Maybe later this week.

I did get four placemats pieced. Want to do two a week from now until Nov to sell at craft fair. I'm bound and determined to have Christmas money this year!!! Without using credit cards!!!
Talk to all later....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

These are what I got done....four of them

Beautiful colors Barb!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gorgeous colors Barb, are they for you?

Keep chuckling to myself, would have been easier had I mailed you each one right...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty read my post above the pictures of the mats. I'm hoping to sell them....
How's Aunt Muriel doing?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Missed reading that section Barb, sorry! Guess getting up at 4am does that to you..do you have a booth or will someone else sell them for you..lots of work ahead of you..good luck with your endeavors..nothing like having extra Christmas $$$$..if you don't sell all your treasures then perhaps they can be gifts...a win/win situation..

Kyle just spent the evening with me, connected the Wii, taught me how to use it..no sooner did we get all in order Suzanne called, said I'd best not be exercising until I talk with my doctor....sooo I simply played bowling and beat Kyle 3 games..

Melanie and Noah were at hockey..Noah won the last 2 games, next round of playoff's heading towards the all ontario games is in Listowell this weekend, a 3 hr. trip 1 way..hope weather co-operates...Greg is in bed with the flu, anxious about his travelling by ski-doo to Quebec this weekend with a gang of snowmobilers..he'd be so disappointed if he couldn't go..

Melanie came in to visit while waiting for Kyle to pack up his gear, I was telling her about Sharon going to Westminster Dog show in N.Y. city this weekend and about one of the dogs having pups (4 in total) using semen from 12 yrs. ago..her male dog now deceased...I said 'isn't science something' and Noah said, 'grandma, I did not learn about that kind of science yet!' lol

Better go make sure all the tables are clear, girls are coming to paint tomorrow rather than Wednesday..

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods..

How are you feeling Trisha, any better? Is Laura's training sessions done...know you were having a visit with your sister, nice time to catch up of families..

Bitter cold here today, few things to do before leaving time so better get at it..

Waving to all of you..
Miss you guys

Glenview, IL

Good morning!

Betty, sounds like a good trip! Poor Aunt Muriel, sure hope she feels better soon, yikes and I hope you don't catch it.
Glad to see you back...
and Hot diggity, THANK YOU!! I received my pretty little thread catcher yesterday.
Was a nice surprise. Immediately hung it on my table.
I was showing Steve, oops, place all three remotes in it, and it stayed put!
hahha, removed them pretty quick and placed it back on my table!
Thank you again.

Well Bahamamma party was a great success! We a full house. Friends from work came and brought some guests.
OH my, what fun we had catching up, wow, even our neighbors, that used to live next door(in the big white house) came...Played some pool, danced, lots of laughter resounding. and of course Jenga, and I am still the queen (of Jenga).
Holy mackeroles, it was about 100* in here, I was sweating bullets, lol .

Mary, seeing from the news, you all are still celebrating big time, and you should. Will you be going to the festivities when the Saint's come home?

Oh My gosh Barb, love your place mat. very pretty. Are you on a time frame with them or are they just fun gifts? Never mind, lol I see your selling them...they will be gone in no time!

Today working on Laundry, house is clean again and everything put back where it belongs. We had to sort of shift things around.
Skittles was placed in the Shrine, but not to worry, she had people coming to play with her all night...

OH, Linda Kay, I did give her a tiny bit of chicken, she seemed to enjoy it!
ok got to switch loads, bbl...
Have a great day.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. I am here, but having computer problems. So if I am not on for a bit, it is because I can't get connected.
Guess I will be shopping for a new computer!!!
Hope your all staying warm.
Judy, glad to hear your party went well!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Prayers for all of you. I need yours for Scotty please. He has been in hospital since last Wed. They brought him to Rehab in Carlinville just 12 miles away so I can go see him every day when the roads are passable. He is so full of fluid still. Hope they can get it off where the hospital couldn't. Hugs and good wishes. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Bev, of course you'll have our prayers..prayers for both you and Scotty..just know how upset you must be..hospital is the best place for him right now, so much equipment and professionals that can make his breathing easier and get rid of fluid..don't you be taking any chances though driving..it wouldn't help him knowing you might be in an accident!
Do keep us updated...by the way, got an e-mail this morning from the daylilies forum..be there shortly...

LindaKay, so many are having computer glitches..do you think it's all the sites we visit causing the problem? was looking at a laptop on the weekend then thought better of it, hard to keep just mine going and the one in the office without adding a laptop..

Judy, wrote a response to your post, must not have pressed send..anyway, just glad that you received your parcel..aren't birthdays grand..lol..I forgot to add the card though or did you wonder why you got it...I'm in awe..mailed my fat quarters swap box and yours on Sat. morning around 11:30 and Monday you've both received them...now that tells me one thing..at the end of each month I have to go to Buffalo just to post my 'swap items' then of course check out the sales..lol

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Bev definitely saying a prayer for Scotty.

Betty, doing pretty good now.
Laura is finished training and enjoying her job.
Yes, my sis is here until Saturday. Having a good visit...problem is she is a great cook but she likes to high cal high fat stuff...lots of fried things....not what we are used to.

Have a lot to do, we are having a going away party for you of our neighbors at mom's tonight.

LK hope you gt your computer dealt with.

Talk to you later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

If she's doing all the cooking Trisha you'll hate to see her go..
Is Laura finding it hard to set herself a working schedule, I've heard of so many who just can't seem to adapt into a home working environment..always something that pulls them away..

A party, yet another reason to eat..lol...you schedule is a busy one...

I'm so bored here at work that I took out my trusted weight watchers points calculater, a cookbook that I bought in USA with great recipe's and figuring out the points..now talk about bored...doing a bit of crochet...

What do you all have planned for Presidents Day? Not all states I believe get it do they...Crissy, you said you had to work Monday right?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Laura has a set time schedule that she has to make her calls and is pretty good at sticking to it. The family has been good at working with her schedule and Sage is even learning to cook some things.

Our diet is pretty much along the Weight Watchers line (I really need to get back on the program) and all the deep fried and coated with butter stuff sis has been making is definitely not part of our diet. It gives me a ton of heart burn....so, I love her but I will be glad when her wonderful cooking goes back home.

Still crocheting here for now....I tend to cycle through different things...Laura says I need to start a site for ADHD Crafters!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Then count me in your group Trisha..could us a ADHD Crafters annonymous!

You know, I was just thinking that since I've been following Weight Watchers, think it might have been in Sept. or so, then got off the wagon so to speak over Christmas holidays that's when my problems with chest pain started..it could be very my tummy isn't used to the changes and causes heartburn...

Never had heartburn, can you describe the feeling for me? I'll continue the resting, continue the tests but have said all along I think it's simply heartburn..never having it or heart problems I wouldn't know the difference between them...

I'm so glad that Laura is enjoying her work and is able to keep to a routine..omg Sage is growing in leaps and bounds, learning to cook..she's at a perfect age...did see a children's cookbook not long ago, will have to search for it and send it to her..

Trisha we'll soon be out in our gardens, enjoying then complaining about just how much work they are...you'll not have as much work this spring having done the pond and grounds last year, but then is it ever over?

Sooo looking forward to a long weekend..already filled Sat. morning..Sailor goes to the vet for grooming and I for a perm, Sunday if weather co-operates might take a trip to Meaford to the warehouse..joined 2 spring swaps, need some goodies..guess if weather isn't the best I could make them right? lol

How far would you be Trisha from the Canadian Olympics?

Glenview, IL

popping in pretty quick!

MIL had a fall this morning and just got back from emergency!
Broken arm, ton of pain!! So i will be playing nurse for a bit.

My goodness Bev, You bet I'll be praying hard for Scotty.

Betty, Well i just hope that it is heartburn, at least you then know how to deal with it.

see you later..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh hugs for your MIL, didn't she have a fall not too long ago Judy?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi! I don't have time to catch up, but it snowed and snowed here, lost my internet because the satellite dish was covered in snow, so the past couple days I've been out taking pics!

I hope you had a great trip Betty, I'll try to catch up later, my hands are freezing!

http://picasaweb.google.com/christinepix/20100209#

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending prayers for Scotty, Bev and Judy's MIL. My goodness, they say things happen in threes so we don't need anymore!!! Prayers for quick healing and safety are on the way.
Been running errands today so I didn't get anything done with my sewing. Just one binding on one mat. These do go up fairly fast so I hope i can keep up with my goal.
Going to buy my yarn tomorrow for the afghan. I so love the colors you used and I hope I can find them here. Was there a particular brand of yarn that you used Betty? Did you use wool or acrylic? I just need something to change off with from sewing once in a while and that will keep my hands busy. If they are idle for too long, they stiffen up on me and then it takes a while to loosen them up again.
We have the boys overnight tonight. Mom and Dad have a meeting of some kind (something about the snowmobile club they are members of) and will be gone overnight.
Speaking of which - my Sean, the almost 10 yr old, did something so wonderful the other day that I must tell you about it. Evidently they had a discussion in school about the people of Haiti and everything that has happened there. He went and got a gift card that he had received for Christmas, took it to the bank and cashed it in and had the money sent to the Red Cross. All on his own. I'm so proud of him and of his Mom and Dad too - that they have instilled compassion in him. His older brother is the same way. When 911 occured Brandon, then 5, went around his neighborhood selling tiny Tootsie Rolls for a quarter apiece. He earned over $67 and sent it to the NY firefighters. He still has the letter of thanks that they sent to him. Giving is a wonderful thing and I'm grateful that they can experience it.
Well ladies, I have written a book today. Have a wonderful evening all.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Barb, these kids although you didn't TELL them to do it have seen both of you and your compasion for those in need and are following suit..you must be so proud! Sure is something for a child that age to take to heart the tragedy of what others are experiencing...give him a hug will you...these children we are raising wether it be children or grandchildren, the future is in their hands, what more can we leave to the next generation but care and concern for others...his kindness brought tears to my eyes...truly has!

Barb, the first few afghans were done with wool from Michaels...same wool manufacturer supplies for Walmart so I've purchased the $7.98 ball skein for the 3 or 4 I need large amounts of and the rest just regular small skeins...more cost efficient that way...

This is the one I finished for my bedroom...
