Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

(Zone 5b)

construction work makes me hungry
Smiley if I told you what I was wearing while knocking that wall down you'd laugh even harder lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I am still battling those stupid gnats!!! My son asked me what I was using and I said that Safer product. He said to use Neem Oil. I sprayed (diluted) it on my plants 2 days ago and it did nothing. I sprayed again today. I guess you have to put a drop of dish soap in it before spraying, which I didn't know. I looked up what Neem Oil was and it is a wonder that I haven't used it before now. It is good for about everything! I will let you know if the gnats have slowed down, but as of now, I do think they are getting bigger!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Who was it that said they gave all their baby stuff away and the person just sold it on Craigslist! Well, I had something similar happen.

I saw on freecycle someone was wanting the size of clothes I had hanging in my closets I hadn't worn in a while. So I cleaned out my closet and gave her a ton of all kinds of hardly worn and very expensive clothes. I got carried away when cleaning my closest because I pulled out things not only that did fit, but also things that I didn't feel quite comfortable in, and somethings I decided I didn't like when I wore them.

She picked them up and I had to pull a thank you out of her after many emails. She said she had many friend if those clothes didn't fit her. I wanted a particular blouse back and she said she had given them all away. I asked her, all of them? She said yes in the email. I said, didn't you keep anything? She said she kept a couple of and I asked her which ones did she keep. She never did say. Then she said, I did say thank you when I picked them up.

Most people are really thrilled to get even small things on freecycle because it was something they wanted. And I just know she was selling them somewhere, which is against the rules. I was really taken advantage of. I thought I was doing something good for someone that needed something.

Obviously, I wish I had not given my clothes away. I go to look in my closet and even everyday clothes are not there any more, stuff I would wear around the house but just a little ugly to where somewhere.

I contacted the freecycle owner of the Indy group and her name or email name is no longer there. And she is not listed in any the other freecycle group! Who knows what her real name is because she could use any name and email.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

clothes and jackets and stuff have been replaced through church and neighbors.

my flower seeds thats something i will have to build up agian.

mainly looking to replace my morning glories and vine seeds. and dahlias. vines are my favorites.

insurance done and seems everything is gonna go fine. wiring was bad and they said it was fault of contractors. they are going on with stuff on our behalf which is fine with me. dealing with this mess is a nightmare and will let lawyers figure it out.

what cant be saved now can be tore down as safety issues. and try to save what can be.

still jittery but with time this will pass.

its weird that a heat mat made to heat and warm plants melted so bad. thinking of going with a different brand if i can find one.

thank you everyone for the concerns. taking it one day a ta time.

Good to hear things are coming along.
Hope the jitters pass soon.
Least the insurance is handling things for you will be one less headache.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Imzadi, sorry but I can't help you with morning glories, vine seeds, and dahlias. If you think of something else, maybe I can help you. I would think that your insurance would cover the xpense to buy new clothes, replace your seeds, heat mat, or other things damaged. Even expense for your trama of the situation but I guess you would to have proof you went to a couselor for that or get medication for your jitters. I am sure they will go away in time. Did you get smoke in other parts of your house?

It sounds like you are on the right track with your insurance, lawyer, and the guys who are doing the work. Just make sure everything is done before you sign off on it.

Thanks for keeping us updated. You are a very strong person and you are handling everything very well.

Hi All. You Go Lynnie! Turning into a regular Design Star....grin

The baby furniture was as much sentimental as useful, Smiley....grin, but I did scrimp and save for it....a quick dust up and a little paint ant it would look new....Stroller really ticked me off as it was a convertible double, found out she sold it for $75.00....snort!. Only stuff...but if he takes on one more overtime day I may wring his neck.....grin

Venice, thanks for the link. I will look into it.

Hi Marti...sounds like you got a bit done in the garden. Did your hydrangeas come in yet?

Rie, you hang in there girl. Things are looking better every day.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Not yet. I'm mailing out the order for them this week. I'm getting a nice big check in the mail from my son to help get our water heater replaced and to buy my plants. We've been without hot water for over a month now. I'l tried of bathing in a bucket of water heated on the stove or going over to my nieces to shower.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I know you are ready for that to be over. How much we take for granted certainly 'luxuries'.....grin You mentioned a 6x8 bed, how many Hydrangeas are you planting there?

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I have three beds that size. One for each of the three hydrangeas I'm getting. I've ordered Limelight, Pinky Winky and Vanila Strawberry.

(Zone 5b)

home again home again jiggedy jig...

Marti sorry to hear about your lack of hot water, I wouldn't like that AT ALL!
Imzadi I think you'll get your vines & seeds lickety split ;)

Is Dixie still sick?
Where are the rest of you gypsies?
My DD got my messed up palate, poor kid (teeth wise not taste wise). I'm pretty sure the dentist said my face is deformed lol

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Lynnie,
I'm trying to get ready for the ice storm we are suppose to have.
Trees are already covered in ice so if we get an inch or so like they said I am afraid power will go out.

Getting the generator ready and filling the gas cans.

Jesup, GA

Just wanted to pop in long enough to say hi all. I'm feeling much better! Grands are watching cartoons. Gotta get dinner ready for them and then its bath time. And story time and bed time! Grin.....good thing I do feel better the little things keep old Mimma hopping! Hope all have a good night. And talk to every one when I get a good breath. Lynnie you can come with your saws any time over this way! I'll put ya to work!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Glad your feeling better Dixie.

(Zone 5b)

Dixie you would have to feed me too.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, I had no idea you were so icy up there and with more to come!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That will make them quite happy Marti. You are gonna love them in bloom.

I hear ya Lynn...DS got my overbite....had to have arch-wire for a few years. The house is getting top to bottom room by room cleaning....I am not planning on doing anything other than day to day...dishes, vacuum and laundry while they are here. The dogs even have appointments at the groomers....grin

JJ, You hunker down and stay warm...hope ya don't lose power.

Hey Dixie....you run Mimaw....grin one more day before you rest....grin. Glad you are feeling some better.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Big Colts game on Sunday at 3:00!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Venice the roads aren't bad they kept them salted.. but that sleet we got the other night has the trees all covered.

Hope we don't lose it either Moon but this time I'm going to be ready.
Last time no one thought about if the power went out the gas pumps wouldn't work either DUH..Had generator not enough gas for 5 days.

Take my dog too. How can one dog shed so much in the winter I will never know. DH says its because I don't make the dog stay outside.

Catch you later

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Knock Knock any one home? Hey everybody! Sounds like a busy day for all. When ya get done with the saw Lynnie, come on over and we will try out my cordless drill I got today at GW. Moon your getting there girl, sure DD will bring stuff like maybe portable play pen with ther and possible a stroller too. They make the little seats that go in table chairs and scoot up to table for toddlers, bet the baby still eats from Mom's lap or carry all seat. I have a car seat, cradle, and two seater trycycle if you will come get it :-) Imzadi, glad insurance is gonna take care of costs, still a scary thing and you will be nervous for a long while and probably smell smoke when there isn't any. Take care girl. Hi Marti,Smiley, JJ, Dixie and Venice. Hope all are getting over the funk. Oh Vencice they have had a re-call on Tylenol PM because of mold probems, I wouldn't take any more in case you got some of the bad stuff, switch to Advil PM.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I say I took Tylenol but it is actually the Walgreen's brand which is much cheaper.

The top leaves of my little Schefflera arboricola are drooping. Dark leaves or shiveled leaves have to do with watering so I don't have that problem. Do you think it is from all this bud spray I have been using for the gnats? It has the most light it can have on these gray days.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I wouldn't rule it out at all Venice. When I put fertilizer on the lawn and don't use gloves I get very ill. I'll go to natural remedy thread and look up for knats again, There were a few different things besides garlic that you can try.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I am going to keep trying this Neem Oil for a while. It is suppose to be good. I have tried a lot of those 'home remedy' stuff and it didn't do a thing. The garlic smelled up my place.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Heres one to try if you haven't Venice:

Put one tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar in a clean empty baby food jar, fill the jar with water, and set the jar near plants infested with fungus gnats for a few days. Attracted by the sweet vinegar, the gnats fly to the rim of the jar, climb inside, and drown.

Mix one-half cup vodka and 1.5 cups of water in a sixteen ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray on plant leaves in the cool of the day to kill fungus gnats on houseplants. Do not use on delicate plants like African violets. Test the formula on one of the plant's leaves and wait one day to make certain it doesn't burn the leaf.

Apply Vicks VaporRub to your skin to repel gnats. The scent of eucalyptus repels the feisty pests

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I can't find Part one of the Garden Remedy tread, its like it disapeared.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Flowers, thanks for your suggestions. I have tried cider at least several times. I don't have any vodka so I can't try that. I would rather have the gnats come to me. At least that is an opportunity for me to swat them. I had gnats last year and just a couple months before I put the plants outside I finally got rid of them.

You know this big brom I have? Is it going to do anything? Is it going to flower again. Will it ever have babies? It is a good thing that my bigger plants are slow growing.

Dixie, I planted the Angel Wing Begonia starts when they had roots. Even though they haven't done anything, are they ok? All 3 of them have one orginal leaf.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Don't know about Broms Venice, thats a question for wise Moon. The thing I read is they will not bloom again, but I think they will produce more plants in the same pot that will. I've had begonias ( not angel wing) and have rooted and replanted them in dead of winter and they survived and grew in pots inside. They are pretty hardy. I have noticed that most plants slow down in the growth department during cold months but take off and start growing again in spring. Thats when I start the miricle grow watering about every two months and add some fresh dirt to pot or if dirt is two years old replace it and repot.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Flowers check your email I'm going to get you that video for your Bday. LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

LOL Venice I thought you were talking about your illness when actually you were talking about your schefflera arboricola, bet you thought my response was weird lol. And yes I would think some of the sprays you may be using might affect otherwise healthy plants.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

OK JJ brb

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

You talking about the excersize video JJ? I could have kept up 10 years ago maybe, but honey would have to carry me out of there on a stretcher now lol

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yep thats the one. I can see you and Dixie fighting over who gets to use the chair. LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Thats too funny JJ, wouldn't be no fight to it, she would have to pry me out of it first and you don't know how bull headed I can be when I set my mind to something :-)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Got some paint for the little bath today. It's called splish spash, its a sea green color I think it will look good.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I'll tell my DH you are getting rid of the pink....he will be sooooo hsppy you took his advice. LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Thought about that JJ lol, don't think it will go with that color green so dag nab it may have to go. Now will have to decide what colors will match.
